5:15 pm
>> well, her staff told me that she has no comment today, but this group is very hopeful that she will run. and when she spoke with ktvu days ago, she did say that she was thinking it over and has not ruled it out. congresswoman barbara lee is serving out her term until january 3rd, but already pressure is on to recruit her to run for a new job as oakland's mayor. on thursday, a group posted a public letter signed by 25 community leaders and organizations. it says oakland is a city that is facing a crisis of leadership, and that barbara lee is the person they think could bring people together. >> she brings a level of stature. she can get anybody in the world on the phone, and oakland is going to need a lot of help to get out of this situation that we're in. >> isaac kos-read, who helped spearhead the letter, points to the diverse group of people who signed it, including current interim mayor nikki fortunato. >> bass is one of the first times you have a coalition of business people, labor people, community people, longtime civic leaders, longtime residents, council members who don't always agree on issues.

something up by the golden gate park. there's a thing called a microburst, and i think there's a real potential for that when you have this big convective cells, those big thunderstorms we had, the air gets pushed, pulled in and rises and gets really cold. it cools a lot of enough air. if the cell is big enough, you get enough air up there, super cools, and then it gets heavy cold air sinks and it comes straight down. look up microburst. google it sometime. it's awesome. i mean, some of the some of the debris that is created from that. so it's this flat straight down and then it shoots out at the sides. and part of me i look at that debris field in golden gate park, just the cameras there. and it looked, it looked a little bit like it could have been something like that. but either way, we do have more weather coming. we've got fog right now. the fog. i mean, if you look at this picture right here, live picture, this is golden gate bridge. this is a north kind of a northeast wind. that's the flag. it's hard to tell, but this is fog coming through the carquinez strait out going the other way. right. it's coming from the sacramento valley and pushing into sausalito and pushing out through the gate. and it's been doing that for a few days. that's why temperatures have been so cool in some parts of the bay area. so the fog a product of high

and moist air, and it's filled up the valley to the point that it's actually spilling in through the carquinez strait and coming out through the bridge. and so we're seeing temperatures. if you look at vallejo, 4749 in fairfield, 50 in antioch, really mild or what am i saying, cold afternoons and you go down to bakersfield, you go to modesto. stockton, it's even colder. so what have we got? we got more fog tomorrow. we've got more clouds tomorrow. this is the long range model. i just want to click it through. and what you're seeing is a progressive weather pattern. a progressive series of weather systems want to come through that starts on saturday. don't buy all the timing right now because this thing is what happens is the jet stream is it's in kind of a zonal flow. so it's kind of goes from west to east, and it's not a flat line or essentially a flat line. and the jet stream buckles and ridges really easily because the jet stream is moving faster when it's like a river. rivers that are running straight run faster than rivers that are winding. the jet stream is a river. when it's running straight, it's running fast, but it also starts to get turbulence and shear in the jet stream will pop up,
5:52 pm
create a ridge and dry you out a ridge stream jet stream will pop down. create a low pressure center, create a surface front. and so it's a lot can happen, but suffice to say the models are very good with main weather pattern position where the jet stream will be and the jet stream is probably going to be there starting saturday further south. and that's going to set us up with almost most certainly a wet period going into the holiday week. but timing things out right now, i'd give it a couple of days for sure, but it's active pacific, you know that because the surf is huge, it's going to be giant all next week. it's going to be big up to 25, 30ft. and, you know, snow in the mountains. but high snow elevations, atmospheric rivers hold. and this has an atmospheric river component. it actually has a couple small ones, one maybe bigger. but it basically increases the snow level. so here's tomorrow morning. you see the fog, see it in there, and you see it still spilling into the bay despite the high clouds. this is the mechanism for blowing up the inversion. so then on friday
5:53 pm
afternoon, fog goes away. but then the showers come in. saturday. sunday looks kind of cloudy. and then monday we get back into some more scattered showers. so right. the first couple things that come through are pretty mild in terms of rainfall potential. but the middle early part of next week, 23rd, 24th looks like it has potential to be pretty wet in some places. it depends where you are. we'll dial that in as we get closer. i'll see you back here a few minutes. heather. >> all right. thanks so much. appreciate it. other countries have successful high speed rail networks. so why has california struggled to get on board? coming up next, what will happen now that the delayed and overbudget project has landed on the radar of president elect trump's department of government
