18,000. so we expect that. we expect that sellout to happen. >> along with messi and inter miami, there are also some other big games on the quakes home schedule, including one against chucky lozano and san diego fc in their inaugural mls season. all right, that does it for sports. the 11:00 news with mike starts right now. >> the 11:00 news on ktvu. fox two starts now. >> and good evening everyone i'm mike mibach. let's get right to some of our top stories tonight. the house rejecting a bill to fund the government a little more than 24 hours before a possible government shutdown, conservative republicans joined democrats to vote down the measure. it comes after house speaker mike johnson withdrew a bipartisan bill yesterday in favor of the new measure, approved by president elect donald trump, after an online campaign by elon musk. a funding bill needs to pass before midnight tomorrow to avoid a shutdown. an investigation underway in marin county, novato high school went into lockdown this afternoon. police say they

were searching for the school campus, looking for suspects who were involved in a robbery near the campus. officers eventually gave the all clear around 145 this afternoon, and it's been exactly two weeks since a70 magnitude quake hit right off the coast of humboldt county. that earthquake prompted a tsunami warning across much of northern california's coast five minutes after it struck. the warning prompted several bay area cities to respond by issuing evacuation orders, all in an effort to move people away from the coastline. well, tonight, a town hall was held in half moon bay, and community members, along with san mateo county first responders, discussed the decisions that were made on that day. ktvu is lamonica peters has the story. >> but the one thing i wanted to let you know up front. >> san mateo county supervisor ray mueller from district three led the discussion about the tsunami warning along with other stakeholders, including emergency management and first responders. residents asked questions and voiced their frustrations. >> we had the sheriff come through our neighborhood, which is outside the tsunami zone, and

told people to evacuate, and that created a great deal of confusion because we all thought we were okay. >> emergency management first talked about why there was a tsunami warning, explaining that there had been a 7.0 earthquake. they then explained why the sirens didn't go off. the director of san mateo county emergency management said it was a collective decision made by multiple counties and agencies to not sound the sirens, because the impact would not be significant enough in the area. people also talked about not knowing which low lying areas should be evacuated. >> many people didn't know where the low lying areas were that they were supposed to leave, and what they saw around them were individuals leaving, which led to panic because they didn't have the information to know that where they were was safe. and so one of the things the county and part of that was caused because the state website crashed. >> mueller also said the county plans to improve outreach through text messaging, signage and evacuation maps, and

updating the county's website with tsunami preparedness by february. emergency management said they're learning from community feedback and have already begun implementing ways to improve. >> i think we've done 3 or 4 assemblies already, so we are we are working with the school districts to make sure they shore up their plans. and then there's also an education campaign from the schools to the parents as well. >> now again, one of the main takeaways from this meeting was that messaging needed to be better and clearer. they also mentioned that tsunami drills may become just as important as earthquake drills to be prepared. lamonica peters ktvu, fox two news. >> tonight, we now know that strong storm this past weekend brought down 98 trees in san francisco, 74 of them in golden gate park. a tornado warning was issued for san francisco, but city officials say one never touched down. the rec and parks department says although the damage was extensive in the park. the best news no one was

hurt. >> i'm pretty confident that our staff is well prepared for these kinds of impacts. you know, our arborists and gardeners work year round to assess the health of trees. so, you know, whether there is another storm coming. we are well prepared. our advice to people is really to avoid unnecessary travel during extreme weather, and also to be careful when walking near trees, especially in parks. and it's also important to note that even healthy trees can fall during these strong wind gusts that we have. >> so far, there is no estimate on the cost of the damage. new at 11 after nearly two years in oakland, beer brewing is closing its location in jack london square will temporarily say goodbye to our physical location. >> for now, 2025 will be a new chapter for us, but this is not the end. you will actually see us at more retail stores and

restaurants and bars. >> i should say it's located in the jack london corridor. their last day will be next sunday. now, the brewery is known for its craft brews, drawing inspiration from flavors found in asian cuisine. some of their popular drinks include the use of blond kimchi, sour and rice kolsch. the brewery did not share an exact reason for the closure. tonight, a group of oakland community leaders is recruiting oakland congresswoman barbara lee to run for mayor. an open letter calling for lee to get in the race was published today. the letter was signed by 25 community leaders and organizations, saying oakland is a city that is facing a crisis of leadership and that barbara lee is the person they believe could bring people together. >> she brings a level of stature. she can get anybody in the world on the phone, and oakland is going to need a lot of help to get out of this situation that we're in. it's one of the first times you have a coalition of business people, labor people, community people, longtime civic leaders, longtime

residents, council members who don't always agree on issues. >> isaac kos-read, who helped spearhead the letter, points to the diverse group of people who signed it, including current interim mayor nikki fortunato bass. for now, the outgoing congresswoman has not commented on the letter, but when she spoke with ktvu political reporter greg lee here in the last few days, she did say she was thinking about it. right now, she says she is listening and talking to people, listening to what they care about and what they want and seeing if i'm the type of a person that could help and again, make life better and make every community better. >> so i'm still pondering it. >> the oakland city clerk is handling the special election in april. today, the office posted the list of 11 candidates so far who have already submitted paperwork. the alameda county district attorney intends to throw out a case against the police officer involved in the death of mario gonzalez. the da's office telling ktvu it will toss the case against officer

eric mckinley. he pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter back in october. now, he was one of several officers who were seen pinning down mario gonzalez just before his death in 2021. a judge has already dropped charges for two other officers after the district attorney's office failed to charge them in an adequate time frame. tonight, we're learning new details on the tragic discovery of four bodies found inside an apartment complex in milpitas. police confirming they were members of the same family. the victims of a murder suicide. ktvu is. amber lee brings us the very latest. as the community grapples with this heartbreaking tragedy. >> inside the turning apartments in milpitas, a mixed use housing and retail complex, flowers have been left outside the unit, where police say officers found a family of four dead on tuesday night. authorities now say it appears to be a murder suicide for the holidays too, so it's pretty like sad. police say it appears 36 year old van quang

nguyen used a handgun he owned to shoot and kill his wife, betty pham, also 36, and their nine year old son and four year old daughter, and then turned the gun on himself. police say all four had a single gunshot wound. >> this tragedy is a very difficult reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and gun violence. the loss of their lives was preventable. >> police say they recovered the gun at the scene and that the family was killed sometime between saturday night and tuesday night. that's when officers arrived at the home to do a welfare check at the request of family members, who said they haven't been in contact with the couple for several days. one neighbor says he would see the wife in passing, and when they both shopped at the supermarket on the ground floor of their building. >> i have seen the lady when she goes to trader joe's sometimes, and i opened the door for him coming in and out, and i just say hello. >> some residents at the turing apartments shared with me this

email they received from the property management company about the deaths. one tenant spoke with us on the condition we not show her identity. >> i was pretty shocked because it's a pretty quiet place. >> police say there were no prior calls from that home reporting any trouble, and they have not determined what led the man to kill his family. >> our detectives are still going through digital evidence and all the evidence that they have to determine if there's any, any notes, any additional evidence that was left from the suspect or any additional information. >> my condolences to the family of the people affected, the victims, or i don't know what what what the reason is. >> the neighbor who lives just a few doors from the family, tells me he never saw or heard anything troubling coming from the family's apartment. he says he only heard the sounds of the children playing in milpitas. amber lee, ktvu, fox two news. >> and we want to remind you that there is help available if you or anyone is having trouble.

letter is out of service in northern washington after a series of copper wire thefts. this story does begin tonight's west coast rap. police say thefts began in early october. the facility allows chinook salmon and steelhead to access 57 miles of critical spawning habitat in a nearby river. it has been inoperable, though, since the incidents, and now it's threatening the ecosystem as well as the state's economy. >> catastrophic. i'm sad. i think the people that did it didn't realize or potentially didn't care about the impact that it would have on the environment, on the state. >> the cost to restore power is

$250,000, but the burden to local fish populations is major. the washington fish and wildlife department says it is unclear if it will be possible to pay for the repairs and get the tunnel back up and running before the next salmon spawning season. for ups, employees have been arrested in arizona, accused of stealing and then selling packages at a ups warehouse. authorities say during a 12 month stretch, the four men would identify expensive looking packages that came through the mesa ups facility. they're accused of then switching labels to send the parcels to themselves and sell the electronics and household products online. the men made their first court appearance yesterday to face felony charges. >> you were all arrested on allegations of theft, control of property, which is a class three felony. and then mr. arias and mr. panasci, you were also charged with one count of fraudulent schemes, a class two felony. >> the family of one of the

suspects declined to provide a statement about the allegations. california's high speed rail project is years behind schedule, billions of dollars over budget. it was scheduled to be completed in 2020 for an estimated $33 billion. now, that cost has jumped to 128 billion and it could possibly be operational by the year 2030. california voters initially approved this project in eight with the bond measure. the promise was a bullet train connecting sf to los angeles in less than three hours with ballooning costs. no operational line and no train cars picked out yet. one california congressman wants to cut off federal funding. >> the high-speed rail authority says there's still a funding gap of $100 billion. they don't know where that money is going to come from. there have been five more ceos of the rail authority than there have been passengers, that there have been five ceos, there have been zero passengers. >> despite the setbacks, california governor gavin newsom still supports the rail project. and you can hear about the west

martin. we're talking about the forecast, right? >> yeah, i'm talking about the forecast and holiday week coming up. >> it could be a wet one. >> it's going to be a wet one. will be wet on and off on and off wet. and the timing on this is going to be a little different because it's sort of got a little bit of atmospheric river components to it's got a little bit of a little bit of everything. we'll see that coming up in the model. these are the highs from today. pretty nice. look how cold it is in fairfield 49 degrees. the fog is in not at the golden gate bridge, but it might get in

there because it's coming from the other side, right? it's coming from the east. so i've got fog in napa, not napa, fairfield, vacaville up by davis, up by winters. valley fog, dense fog advisory in that area. and you know when that fog overnight it gets pushed out towards the gate. so you may see some tomorrow morning there. long range model i just want you to see there goes one that opens the door. two, three. they just keep going. so the flow becomes slightly zonal, which just means it's coming straight in off the pacific. that's why those weather systems are coming through. none of them look particularly aggressive. but this model doesn't do good at details. it's really good at long wave pattern and long wave pattern being where the jet stream is, and so you can almost count on it being wet starting saturday on and off. based on the models in in the accuracy, but to how much rain we get, how much snow we get, that's going to remain to be seen as we get closer to these days because there's still a ways out. got all day tomorrow? most of the day. saturday, saturday, sunday are kind of just unsettled days. and then monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, next week looks like there's a potential

for some some more events. so rain returns heaviest in the north bay on saturday. when i say heavy, i'm talking quarter inch half inch. it's not like it shouldn't be like the last storm we saw. the saturday one. sunday's just basically clouds and unsettled. monday. some scattered showers, no big deal. but after that, that's when things look like they start to get going. and our models aren't really that sure going out that far right now. so we're going to wait till tomorrow and the next day until we get closer to the next week forecast. so here is tomorrow morning. there's the fog and you can see it's high clouds. and then you see friday evening. and then you see saturday morning that opens the storm door. fog goes away. rain north. that's good rain up around eureka and del norte county. and then saturday afternoon looks good. and then here comes sunday, right? so just tweak, tweak, tweak. but the storm door is slowly being wedged open by those series of systems, which will open the opportunity for some significant rainfall next week around christmas, which is fine, right? you got the family around, you got the fire going. so there you

out there on the picket line. clean energy advocates held a rally at the state public utilities commission meeting in san francisco, demanding commissioners reject a proposed rate hike by pg and e. the cpuc is considering pg and e request to recover $723 million in costs to operate the diablo canyon nuclear plant. that facility was scheduled to close next year. pg and e says that keeping it up and running though through next year, will actually help meet the state's growing power demand. clean energy advocates say the plant is too dangerous. >> only as diablo canyon. dangerous. it's also all it's really doing is providing continued power for pg and e to make more and more profits. we, as the working class people who are already paying so much for our utilities, shouldn't have to pay for the operation of a power plant that none of us want, and that is actually actively dangerous to our health here in california. >> the groups pointed out that pg and e has already raised rates four times this year. all right. here's a look at the stories trending tonight@ktvu.com. one of our top

carlos are developing a device that helps curb the acidity threatening the chemical balance of our oceans. it places a specific kind of algae in a box, then into the water so the algae can consume and filter out carbon dioxide, harming water's ph levels. it is a low tech solution, which means it is highly scalable. we spoke with the brothers tonight at 730 about what comes next, as full time college students at upenn. >> we spent our free time continuing the research and development, but a big part of our time right now is continuing to pitch our ideas to investors, as well as entering in even more competitions so that we're able to secure the funding, and they'll probably get it. >> this bio filter started off as a sophomore year high school science project. livermore is celebrating after another successful season of stuff a bus toy drive. the wheels bus greeted shoppers at the livermore walmart on saturday.
