swaying a lot, and it was. we heard a lot of cracking, but we didn't think much of it. and then all of a sudden it literally. it all fell into the water and like, there was people on it as well. a lot of construction workers. they were on the pier and it fell into the water, and it sounded like thunder. >> first responders say the construction workers who fell into the water after the collapse suffered minor injuries. that section of the wharf was already closed to visitors due to earlier storm damage. now south of santa cruz, one man died after being trapped under debris caused by yesterday's high surf. an evacuation order is now in effect all along the santa cruz county coastline. one woman was staying at a hotel in capitola for her mother's funeral when she got the order to pack up and leave. >> i was told at first that it was just going to be temporary, and now i'm told i've got to go find another place to stay tonight and who knows how long. >> those powerful waves continue to batter the santa cruz county coast this morning. the

are driving under the influence, speeding or driving while distracted. drivers could also be ticketed for not wearing their seatbelts. the chp says last year, officers arrested more than 900 people for driving under the influence over the three day christmas holiday. those passengers back on their flight as safely as possible and as quickly as possible. but it seems like that's something they were able to do this morning. we just got word from the faa just a few minutes ago that that ground stop has now been lifted, and all flights can go on as planned. doesn't seem to be a big issue here at sfo. we see the first flight taking off here at american airlines, flight taking off about 545 this morning. a lot of folks have already checked in. they're already at that gate. they should be boarding and taking off that flight as scheduled here. so good news this morning. crisis averted. for anything that we may have potentially seen on christmas eve. no disasters here to report, thankfully. we'll send it back to you, garcia and dave. >> james torres, thank you. 517 this morning, five people are recovering in the hospital after an accident that caused them to fall off a ski lift in south lake tahoe. this happened at heavenly mountain resort. the five people were heading up the mountain for another run when something caused two chairs to crash into each other. witnesses took these photos, told us a chair on the comet express lift
