worse. it's like smashing into a wall. you definitely feel the water. you feel the force out there. if you're fighting the ocean, you're duck diving. it's a lot of effort. >> experts warn dangerous waves can strike without warning. roman romero grew up here and takes in the views at pacifica pier every week. respecting the ocean by watching the waves from higher ground, they explode over the railing here. >> it's quite amazing. you don't want to play on the beach, that's for sure. because people, you know, get swept away every year. >> while the larger waves may be further off the coast, the churning can quickly hit the rocks and beaches, pulling people out to sea. first responders are warning never turn your back on the ocean. >> once you get in, it's like a sudden shock and chill to your body. >> the result, experts say, can be dramatic increases in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure, accelerating the risk of drowning. >> people have died at this beach because of rip currents. people's unfamiliarity with the water and what it does.

6:03 pm
it's still too soon to know what they will do to fix the wharf, or what changes they need to make for the future. and with a high surf advisory in effect, the focus is on making sure people don't get hurt from strong waves or floating debris. >> we have somewhat of a question mark as we move through time, whether it's the wharf, west cliff, and i don't think we're by ourselves. i think this is what coastal communities around the world are probably dealing with in that manifestation of climate change. >> the bathroom that collapsed off the wharf and into the ocean has become something of a tourist attraction, as it sits on shore near the mouth of the san lorenzo river. the sonoma county sheriff's office is investigating after a dead body washed ashore and was found at a local campsite. the u.s. coast guard called the sheriff's office at around 11:30 a.m. tuesday, reporting a possible corpse was in bodega bay.

6:06 pm
which is now empty and in the parking lot, then left. >> nothing ever happens here, so it's kind of a real unusual thing. but maybe people are desperate these days. >> contractors working to board up the damage say this is the second time this store has been targeted. the montclair village association says thieves did the same type of break-in christmas eve. experts say the season could be the reason for the perceived rise in crime. >> this is a crime of opportunity in that after hours holiday season, nobody's going to be there. and so there's now ample opportunity to be able to grab the atm machine, break it open, get the cash out of there and get out of the area quickly. >> closed businesses aren't the only ones targeted. also on christmas eve, two crash and grab type crimes in san leandro, with suspects telling employees at this restaurant to get out. >> it is a crime that is easy enough to carry out, and the likelihood of being arrested is

6:09 pm
struggles and how he is getting through them. ktvu bailey o'carroll was in the niners locker room today with more on the niners troubles. with just two more games this season. >> that's the. the great thing about kicking is, you know, you can be as talented as you know whoever and you can you can struggle. and, you know, i feel like this year i've struggled in his second year in the nfl, san francisco 49ers kicker jake moody now knows what it's like to go through a slump. >> but contrary to what you might think, he's not changing anything. >> the biggest thing is to just stay consistent. not change anything. not, you know, change your mindset, your physical. you know, like the warm ups or your form or anything like that. >> he's missed seven of his 30 field goal attempts this season. every one of those misses coming on the road. but the niners drafted moody in the third round of the 2023 nfl draft, a high slot for a kicker, so the
6:10 pm
franchise has a lot invested in it. >> he's real talented. i think he's made of the right stuff just from a mental standpoint and everything, and i think he has all the tools to be a great kicker in this league. he's still working to find that, though. >> and on november 10th against the tampa bay buccaneers, moody missed three field goals in last week against the dolphins missed one, prompting head coach kyle shanahan to throw a tablet on the sideline in frustration. though on thursday, shanahan seemed optimistic about moody's future. >> i still feel the same about him that i believe is going to be our guy. i mean, everyone's got to perform and do things like that, and i think he has had a tough year. >> and he noted that it's important to remember to start the year. moody went 12 of 13 before he suffered a high ankle sprain in his kicking foot. >> i just learned a lot from it, you know, coming back from an injury, making sure that you feel ready to get back on the field, which i did. >> since he's come back, he hasn't been as consistent, obviously. but i think a lot of that probably has to do with that, just common sense wise. and hopefully he can get to the
6:11 pm
off season, heal up and find his stroke again and play at a high level that i think he will. >> moody says he's doing everything he can to bounce back by keeping everything the same and leaning on those around him coaches, teammates. >> they're all great. you know, they have all the confidence in the world, which which helps. >> and while jake moody has been less than perfect this season, the team knows that is not the only issue you can point to the defense, the offense, of course, special teams, and also the slew of injuries that they have suffered all season long. as to what has led to this more than disappointing season at levi's stadium, i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> well, new at six. today is the last day of the san francisco flower market at its longtime location south of market. the wholesale flower market dates back to 1912. the market opened at its current spot at sixth and brannan streets in 1956. it's local. it's a local institution for growers, florists and floral

enthusiasts. about two thirds of the vendors there say they'll be moving to the market's new home on 16th street in potrero hill. that will open january 2nd. others are on the waiting list. one vendor told us they decided to open their own store instead. >> we don't have a spot, a new market. a lot of vendors, they're not including there, so they excluded from the waiting list, i guess, because we never had a clear answer from the from the manager, the developers who purchased the brannan street building, kilroy realty, built the new, smaller facility. >> going forward, the flower mart will be managed by a nonprofit organization. well, the sounds of christmas bells now replaced with the sounds of tree chippers. coming up. what to do with that christmas tree when it finally comes down? >> and it's raining pretty good out there right now. rain

>> if you chop up a chocolate bar, you'll incorporate small bits throughout the cookie. that's the one on the right. on the left is the same dough, but with the baking wafers, which i hadn't tried before, i only ever use the chips. >> i buy the red bag in the grocery store. >> yeah, so that's our 63% chip. >> yeah, i can definitely see how it's. there's a lot of chocolate in there. >> yeah. it kind of creates sort of a layering as well. >> baking is as much science as it is an art. and even though bad cookies are still pretty good, guittard says choosing the right ingredients and recipe will help make sure you love the outcome. as one example, she points to the contrast between regular and dutch processed cocoa the darker one on the left, so you see a different color difference in color, which is much darker. >> and then you've also got this lighter color here. and if you were to taste them, you would taste a stark difference between the two. well, let's taste them. >> let me try this one. oops. yeah. very oreo. yeah. solid chocolate. yep. let me say i should finish here. i'm gonna have some too. i know why not.
6:48 pm
we already broke the cookie. yeah. wow. this was sort of like, i don't know, fruitier or more buttery. it's a little more subtle. lighter. >> that's really good when it comes to changing preferences. guittard says it's not unusual for people to go darker as their palate matures. >> just swapping out that intensity of flavor can deliver a totally different flavor. >> note as soon as i moved to the red bag, the darker one, my husband was like, wow, these taste fancy. yeah, and i thought, that's great because it's the same amount of effort for me. but they do taste a little more upscale, a little more refined. yeah, i could tell the difference easily. >> yeah. nice. >> the $100 billion plus nationwide chocolate market is increasingly focusing on sustainability, ethical sourcing and healthier options. in a nod to those who follow the wildly popular keto and paleo diets, guittard recently introduced its santa chips, french for health. they're sweetened with coconut sugar, and for years, a number of studies have pointed to the

possible health benefits of eating a small amount of dark chocolate every day. but for most people, chocolate is a pleasure, one that's to be shared with family, friends, coworkers, especially around the holidays. >> really good. we need milk. oh we do. >> all righty, a couple more tips here to ensure success, garcia tells us. find your recipe from a trusted source. think back of the chocolate chip bag or garcia's favorite website, serious eats, instead of what you might see on social media. garcia also tells us, be sure that you read that recipe all the way through. some recipes call for chilling the dough for hours. if you don't do that, you will get a flat, messy cookie. nobody wants that. >> yeah, i need to eat more, right? oh my gosh. >> right. we all need more treats. >> i have been moaning. i'm getting ready to go home for dinner and mow some more. oh my gosh. okay, so it's raining outside. we've got golden gate bridge behind me and it shows wet. it's been raining pretty,

pretty hard for the most part. it's kind of backed off a little, but it's still coming down. you can see it on the bridge. it's one of those nights it's going to be raining overnight, which is my favorite kind of rain, because it basically sets you up with a nice day. tomorrow. it's going to the front's going to get through quickly, or the weather system is going to get through quickly. and tomorrow afternoon looks relatively dry, not just afternoon in the morning hours. so there's that plug of moisture moving inland that, you know, essentially you could call that an r. it's a it's just subtropical moisture. but here's the forecast model. here we are after midnight tonight. you can see right there there's friday morning it's already gone. and then friday afternoon. and then here we go a little scattered shower activity on saturday morning. this is the model. and then a little something on saturday night into sunday morning. all of it's low grade stuff. we'll see what this thing does saturday morning into sunday or saturday night into sunday morning. but overall these are overnight events which are perfect. there's the rain.
6:51 pm
you can see the radars really lit up here in the last hour or so. these yellows representing some heavier rainfall, lots of some tropical moisture. snow levels have come up. tomorrow's a good day. go do do stuff. don't. don't you know if you get tired? didn't want to sit in the house today. you can go out tomorrow. and then the scattered showers will linger till about midnight. and then they should die down quickly in the mountains. of course. they're chaining up and chaining down. the snow levels are going to keep rising. and so you're going to see snow levels just well, you're going to see rain up to almost pass level as we go into tonight and tomorrow. so golden gate bridge again not a lot of wind yet, but the wind is going to come up. and when the wind gets going tonight and tomorrow morning, we could see gusts to 35, 45 miles an hour. so it's a it's a weather system for sure. is it, you know, biblical and just. no, it's just a weather system and it's the timing on it's money in the next couple have that overnight angle to it. so the days look kind of

manageable. you'll see that in the five day forecast. so early rain friday early rain saturday maybe a little bit sunday morning. right. so it's not a bad run. and north bay will get a bunch of rain. you especially north of santa rosa maybe 4 or 5in. but the rest of us tonight we might get an inch of rain if we're lucky in marin county. i'll see you back here tonight at ten and 11. >> all righty. bill sounds great. the holidays, they can be tiring. so, are you ready for a vacation? the four travel trends for 2025, experts
