to 43mph, so there is a decent little breeze kicking up its heels. high pressure says, now you're not coming in here. that system maybe a smidge cooler than than yesterday when it was really warm. as pam said, some smoke could drift up here, but i think most of it's going to stay south of us, and this high is not going anywhere anytime soon. so good day sunshine. maybe a smidge cooler, but boy it's windy in the hills, no doubt about it. 60s 70s on the temps forecast. models are having a tough time forecasting highs in this pattern, but still above average. all right, always above average. here he is, mr. sal castaneda. happy friday my friend. >> same to you steve. happy friday to you and to the viewer at home. i'm going to help you out and try and get you into work here. let's go to the bay bridge. you can see traffic is moving along pretty well with no major issues. it's going to be a little bit. well, it's going to be a little bit lighter today. i think on a friday you can see traffic in the south bay. looks

5:03 am
>> pam. good morning. and we're seeing so many examples of that. unfortunately, that wind could continue at least a couple more days. and we're just seeing sites like this all over the place. homes that have burned down. what's tough to see in the pitch dark is the amount of homes next to it that have been reduced to ash, but you can see the little fires popping up still all over the place, firefighters doing what they can to prevent it from spreading to other homes that are still standing. but they're worried this fight is far from over. >> keep all of los angeles county in your thoughts and prayers. >> the city of angels is looking for a miracle as thousands of firefighters battle several large scale fires threatening homes across the area. their progress on the two largest infernos, the palisades and eton fires, won't be in vain, with

here to help address the concerns about looting in these evacuated areas. there have already been more than a dozen looting arrests. >> pam. dave o'connor, as we understand, it's still pretty windy and expected to be windy there even into next week with the severe winds. what can you tell us about the evacuations that are in place, or perhaps new areas that are now in line to maybe be at the ready to leave? >> yeah, we're hearing more areas. getting those evacuation warnings and orders. you mentioned that, kenneth. fire. that's a new one. those areas being asked to evacuate and some surrounding areas getting more warnings nearby. >> all right, connor hansen there in los angeles, we will continue to check in with you throughout the morning. thank you for that update. a new wildfire he just mentioned started yesterday afternoon, and an arson investigation is now underway. that's the one that

connor just mentioned, burning near calabasas on the edge of the san fernando valley. the kenneth fire started yesterday. it has burned close to 1000 acres. you can see how close it got to homes there. it closed part of highway 101. firefighters say they stopped the forward progress of that fire, and it is 35% contained. now, police detained a man near that fire. this is citizen app video showing officers taking the person into custody. neighbors saw a man riding around on a bicycle, carrying a blowtorch and trying to set curbside christmas trees and garbage cans on fire. neighbors followed him and held him down and tied him up with zip ties until police could arrive. >> about another helicopter showed up and about 12 tanker engines showed up about, i want to say, 25 cop cars showed up, by thethey told us we had a mandatory evacuation. we packed our stuff up as quickly as we could and we left. >> evacuations have been reduced, but there are still

trump administration. while we don't know how much financial support he'll give california, donald trump and state leaders have in the past bickered over water management and disaster preparedness during trump's first administration, the l.a. county office of emergency management says it made a mistake when sending out one of the alerts to evacuate. >> the alert was intended for only the evacuation zone of that newest kenneth fire, but instead went out to the entire county. >> the office of emergency management and the county's emergency operations center took immediate action to issue a cancellation, and then also issue a second wireless emergency alert to correct the misinformation from the malfunction. >> an l.a. county supervisor says the mistake was a result of a technical error. >> our time is now. 508 the fire devastation is raising some new questions for all californians about how tough it may get to buy affordable fire insurance coverage in the future. so far,
5:09 am
there's no official dollar amount for the damages in the l.a. wildfires, but some experts estimate it will cost about between 20 and $50 billion for insurance companies. consumers have been losing coverage as insurance companies try to adjust to worsening catastrophic fires. >> a lot of people around the state have been unable to afford insurance. even the rich folks in pacific palisades here in la, some of them did not renew their insurance coverage, which means they're not covered at all. >> depending on the magnitude of those assessments, that that could definitely be a factor that that makes insurers look twice about coming back to california. >> now, the state of california requires catastrophe models and risk assessments. that could help keep the rates in check. but there are concerns companies may just stop offering insurance coverage in california, citing the high cost of doing business
