known as a physician to the stars? doctor hamid mir shojaee has a beautiful new wife and baby. then suddenly he's gone. >> the horror and the betrayal of this crime is beyond words. >> the crime unfolded on august 23rd as the doctor left his medical clinic in woodland hills, a neighborhood west of downtown los angeles known more for strip malls and shopping than violence. but on this day, it filled with cops and crime scene tape. >> a masked man emerged from hiding around the corner of the clinic and ran toward him. >> a police tent keeps prying eyes away as officers work the scene. flowers, candles and cards line the parking lot where a gunman lying in wait ambushed doctor mir shojaee. a former patient recounts the horrifying details of the killing. >> they were all screaming in the office when it happened because they heard the shots. he comes right out to his car and

with his back turned, trying to unlock it. and somebody, somebody is coming in from behind him and pops him not just one time, and he goes down and he sees you can see everything from the office because it's all glass. >> the gunman flees as lapd officers swarm the scene from a close distance. >> the suspect fired at doctor mir shojaee in an ambush style attack, and then immediately fled back toward the rear of the clinic and away from the scene. >> the doctor's ex-wife, ahan mir shojaee, also known as ahcan kelenic, posts a loving tribute on facebook and announces a memorial service. writing in part, hamid, the kids and i are in so much shock. we miss you so bad. the world is so cold. as the investigation moves forward and a number of potential suspects to interview, police soon uncover just how cold the world is. that it was a murder for hire plot, and who was

allegedly behind it. >> the depth of this deceit and violence involved in this case is chilling in a fancy gated community in calabasas, cops raid a sprawling mansion. >> la's top prosecutor then makes a bombshell announcement the doctor's ex-wife? yes, the one who posted the tribute, has been arrested and is accused of hiring a hitman to kill the doctor. >> the horror and the betrayal of this crime is beyond words, and it is with a heavy heart that we have to announce these charges against the ex-wife of doctor hamid mir shojaee ahcan shojaee. in addition to the other co-defendants, a total of five suspects are taken into custody. >> ahcan miro shojaee is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. alleged gunman evan hardman is also charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. ashley rose

sweeting, hardman's reported. girlfriend charged with accessory after the fact. saarela joannette, who cops say drove hardman to texas, is also charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. shawn randolph arrested on suspicion of murder. hardman appeared in a houston courtroom before facing extradition. ahcan got her day in court in downtown l.a. >> yes, yes, your honor. >> as the accusations go against. mr. mir shojaee and mr. hardman. is that back on august 23rd, mr. hardman having been hired by ahang mir shojaee goes ahead to a parking lot and engages in the act of murder. >> friends and coworkers of the middle eastern immigrant family left in disbelief. >> i've known the ex-wife. i mean, i was friends with her back in the days, many years ago

and back in the days. i mean, she was not like this. i don't know what motivated her to do something like that. >> to him, the possible motive is money. >> it's been alleged it's for financial gain. so yes, for money. for money. correct. >> court documents obtained by true crime news show they split up in 2009. they owned multiple properties and had about a dozen bank accounts. among asking for $30,000 a month in child support despite a joint custody agreement, the couple shared ownership of the woodland hills medical clinic, where the doctor was gunned down and both worked there. as part of the divorce settlement, ahang demanded that she be paid rent plus a salary of $10,000 a month. >> it's a big shock. i didn't expect it. i didn't expect that somebody who worked there all these years, and we would be seeing her in the parking lot,

and then for her to plan something like this, it's unbelievable. it's unbelievable. >> but things were far from settled in 2016, ahang and her new fiance were granted a temporary restraining order against the doctor. then in 2017, hamid requested a restraining order against his ex-wife, and that same year, so did the couple's son. the two slung allegations at each other assault, embezzlement and ahang is accused of orchestrating a baseball bat attack on the doctor a few months before his murder. joining me now is the los angeles county district attorney, nathan hochman. do you expect that there will be additional charges? >> yes, potentially. there could be additional charges because he was attacked months before the time he was murdered. these actions are are inhumane, despicable. >> the doctors once affluent ex-wife, now caged in a jail cell. while prosecutors say they

when 15 year old danielle locklear told her family that she had plans to meet a friend, they didn't think twice about it. he was someone they knew well and trusted, sadly. what no one knew was that it was the last time they would see her. pretty pictures and endearing videos. memories so haunting. rona fowler can barely hold back the tears. tell me about what your daughter was like when she was growing up. >> mischievous. she was a firecracker. you always found her in something. she was always one of those types. where? she never let anything pass her by. >> in the summer of 2013, the sun was still shining on 15 year

old danielle locklear. the sparkling eyed teen was spending the warm months at her grandma's house, two hours from home in idyllic hope mills, north carolina. >> she had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. >> when danielle's freshman year begins, she asked to enroll in high school up north with grandma, where she had also made a new friend. high school senior jahmai pachal. >> when she first met him, she fell head over heels. she was in love. she was putting hearts everywhere. all of her notebooks. what did you think of him? i thought he was a nice kid. he was very introverted, but that was okay. it's the makings, seemingly, of a very good and respectful kid. >> but there was someone else vying for michael's attention. dominic locke. >> dominic locke was michael's best friend. they were like they were tied to the hip. they had

plans of doing the military thing together. >> for now, dominic was just the third wheel in jamaica, and danielle's budding love story. >> this friend dominic seems like a person that's easily told what to do. you know? >> and danielle and michael seem to be facing the typical ups and downs of new love and friendship. did you ever see them having problems? >> they had broken up around christmas time. a week later they were back together so everything was fine. >> fine until a night near the end of the school year in march. that's when danielle's mom, rona, back home in myrtle beach, gets the phone call every mother dreads. >> my sister said, danielle's missing. i'm like, what do you mean she's missing? i'm panicking. >> but danielle's aunt gina investigates on her own in hope mills. >> there's a creek back there that these school kids hang out. >> but when night falls, the dense brush surrounding the muddy waters hides something

tied to cinderblocks. >> you could clearly see the rope tied around her waist and the cinderblocks attached to it. >> and one more final gruesome detail a single sock forged deep into her mouth. the sock is a match for the one her aunt found at the shore. >> asphyxiation was given as danielle's cause of death. >> danielle's mom, rona, gets the tragic news. >> that night. my cell phone rang and it was fbi and she said, well, we have a body. i said, well, i'm elieser her. she didn't say nothing because i knew the police examined danielle's body, the rope and take a close look at the cinderblocks, small rocks and pebbles in them. >> the location of the body tells me where to look next. it's nearly a mile from someone

danielle knew very well, jamichael malloy. >> the next day, we executed a search warrant at jim michael's house on michael's property. >> they find rope that matches the one binding danielle, and they're neatly stacked next to the garage, cinderblocks with speckled pebbles. then they find danielle's cell phone tossed onto a highway median a short distance away, and there was a voicemail on there. >> i guess when they were arguing, he said, if you come around me, i will kill you. >> it would be a matter of time before we'd be put in handcuffs on jamichael and under the heat of interrogation lights, the cold hearted truth begins to emerge. >> who's going to give us an opportunity to show who you are and how things how things happen? >> jamichael admits he broke up with danielle for good at the creek, and the next thing i knew, she wasn't breathing and i freaked out. his best friend,

dominic lock, was just 70 yards away. >> after a while, he came back to me and he told me she was dead. he was like, we need to get rid of the body. >> dominic admits he helped michael move danielle up the creek bed. michael took over from. >> there in the car. we're back home. that's when i got the cinderblocks and the rope tied her up and put her in the river. >> but why would michael callously murder his sweet girlfriend? he tells cops he freaked because danielle lied and told him she was pregnant and a baby wasn't in michael's plans. >> they had a heated argument out there, like in the woods. then she turned her back to him, and then he came up behind her. and that's how he, you know, chuck radil dominic tells investigators the sock was one final act to silence michael's girlfriend. >> he said, put the sock in her mouth. >> they had just one more

despicable act. >> i got cinder blocks and night long room. >> i am so sorry. i'm sorry. i am so sorry. i'm so sorry. i am so sorry. sorry. >> they tied her ankles to cinder blocks and tied the other two around her waist and took her to a river right down the road. they tossed her in the river. >> jamichael pleads guilty to second degree murder and is sentenced to 25 years in prison. >> i hope that he rots in jail. he doesn't deserve to live. >> dominic pleads guilty to accessory to murder charges and is sentenced to 6 to 8 years behind bars, while danielle's
