5:01 am
crank up the breeze as we head towards later this afternoon. so wind advisory starts at 4 a.m, which i think is a little early, to be honest with you. i mean, it hasn't scoured everything out yet, but from fog to wind and we'll go from a cold, foggy morning for some. but then the wind picks up. that will take care of the fog. so sunny, breezy, windy in the hills and warmer. 60s on the temps. all right. sal is here. 5:00. and we are what? >> our light. and we're expected to be light today. it's a holiday for a lot of people. martin luther king day, although some people do have to go. let's see what it looks like there. not a bad commute here. as you drive over to the bay bridge toll plaza. looks pretty good here with no major issues. also, the morning commute is doing very well. if you are driving on any of the other bay area bridges. 501 let's get back to the headlines. >> so thank you so much. donald trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the u.s. today. >> in his first hours in office, he is expected to sign dozens of

executive orders on everything from immigration to tiktok. ktvu sally rasmus joins us now to talk about how california is preparing for a second trump term. yeah. >> california governor gavin newsom and state lawmakers have agreed to set aside $50 million to defend the state in court against possible legal battles against the trump administration. california leaders expect to be at odds with the incoming administration on everything from immigration and deportation cases to education policies to environmental regulations. about 10 million of those legal funds will go directly to cities and counties in california to defend themselves in those possible legal challenges. now, one big question and potential challenge between california and the trump administration could emerge over the issue of disaster aid for southern california after the wildfires there and the days after that crisis broke out in los angeles county. the incoming president blamed the governor for the problem and threatened to withhold federal aid because of it. after a public back and forth on social media between the governor and mr. trump, the incoming president now has
5:03 am
pledged to help rebuild los angeles. but it's not clear under what terms that will happen. incoming president trump says he plans to visit the disaster zone this friday. now, other promises made by the incoming president that could provoke legal challenges from california include his campaign pledges to expand oil and gas production, cut federal programs, incentivizing electric vehicles, and his promise to eliminate the department of education, as well as ban trans athletes from participating in women's sports in schools. back to you. >> all right. thank you. ali. in a developing story we're following this morning, police are investigating a deadly seven car crash in san francisco. the crash happened south of market at the intersection of harrison and sixth streets right after 6:00 yesterday evening. police say one person was killed in the crash. several other people had to be pulled from their cars and rushed to a nearby hospital. police have detained one of the drivers. investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash and if anyone was intoxicated. people living

handout. and that's what we're all about. we want to give our brothers and sisters hope, hope for the future. okay. >> thank you. members of the evergreen baptist church in oakland devoted the day to service as their way of honoring doctor king's legacy. they call it their blanket and blessing drive. they handed out food, hot chocolate, blankets and sleeping bags at homeless encampments throughout oakland. >> and this is a freedom that we have. being able to give back, to give to the less fortunate, to do what we knew that he would do, and this is what he would do. so all we're doing is following his lead. we're standing on his shoulders. >> this is the 17th year the church has been reaching out to the unhoused community for the mlk holiday. >> well, here are some of the events happening today here in the bay area in san francisco. the annual mlk labor and community breakfast will be held at 8:00 this morning, and third baptist church reverend amos brown will be there. there will also be mlk march in the city, set to begin at 11 a.m. in oakland, several organizations

1760s through the early 1800s. >> also this morning, we will air the 57th annual martin luther king jr. commemorative service from the historic ebenezer baptist church in atlanta that begins at 6:00 this morning, and you can watch it live over on ktvu plus. >> well, the plunge of cold air is already beginning to make its move here, and it's just darn cold for some. good morning, butte, montana, where it's only -25. that's the current temp, not the wind chill. bismarck 19 below minneapolis 13, green bay eight. even down to oklahoma city 16. miami 58. that sweater weather. andre 58. miami. >> yes. boots. >> boots. >> boots with the fur. >> fur. that's cold. that's cold. >> that sounds like a song. >> it is. >> detroit seven, cincinnati. the nati at five. denver one below. thankfully, we're not even close to that. but we do have a frost advisory. i mean, there's a lot actually going on, even though there really isn't.
5:10 am
but we had that fog and the cold. but we'll go from fog to the wind picking up. so a wind advisory at 4 a.m. is just to soon up in the hills, the winds picking up. but at the surface some areas have cleared fairfield, vacaville, santa rosa. others are dealing with thick fog. stockton zero visibility. livermore a quarter of a mile. concord a half. napa airport a quarter. some really thick fog around 80 around american canyon. hiddenbrooke there. then you drop down to say marine world. it gets a little better. but novato and petaluma a quarter of a mile. so some areas, even ten miles, others can barely see. there's the wind picking up in the hills. you can see that 30 miles an hour at sonoma mountain, 32 middle peak. so there's a pretty good little breeze. it's on its way. that will help scour out the fog, but you may hit a pocket or two of it if you're leaving now. the system will dig in, giving us wind and also another round of wind for southern california. looks like they need that. but that's what's on tap here. 30s. 40s. on the temps you can find 32 fairfax. you can find 39

sebastopol, 41 bolinas, 41 tiburon, even 34 sonoma. so the petaluma novato 40 looks like a breeze might be beginning to pick up there. or they have fog just again. it's dancing around there. 18 in truckee, 24 south lake tahoe. so one system digging in. the next one will give the wind for us, us and also southern california. but the key here going forward is we get some fog. it's cold, then it's breezy in the hills, but the wind will pick up. so it should be sunny for everybody today. once that wind kicks in. so morning fog, afternoon wind, areas of fog and low clouds and then sunny, breezy 60s on the thames. >> all right. thank you steve. the ceasefire between israel and hamas is now on hold. we're going to show you some of the emotional moments with the hostages and their loved ones. >> tiktok flip flop. it's back online. the plans president elect trump has for the app once he is sworn in. and you can get more ktvu with our new fox local

6:40 am
we're done, to be honest with you. unless it's, you know, light, there's nothing significant showing up. so this looks like the third driest january in san francisco's history. and average is four and three quarters and we've had 19/100. january is all or nothing. if you go back the last 11 or 12 years, it's either we're getting a ton of rain or nothing and we're getting nothing. change is going to come. and that's in the form of the fog getting chewed up and temperatures bumping up because the breeze. so we'll have cold mornings, sunny days until the end of the week when a cold, cold low is going to drop in, has a trajectory over land, so not much moisture. could be some snow in the sierra and maybe some rain in southern california. i just think cloudy and cold for us. >> all right, steve, thank you so much. we're going to take you live back to our nation's capital right now where things are getting underway. first, we'll talk about this. the divisional games have wrapped up, and we now know who's kicking off a championship sunday next weekend. details are coming up, and now we take you back to washington, d.c. for a live pictures inside the facility where president elect
