producer on the docuseries and a longtime colleague of mine. nancy, what put amanda on your radar? >> amanda was on my radar from a tip that i received back in 2015. she had a really detailed blog. that's how i came to learn about her. >> amanda, based on the number one podcast by the same name, takes a deep dive into this elaborate con with so many victims. so how would you describe who the victims in this case are? >> the victims range from family, friends, the community as a whole. the church, especially the church, was pretty integral with her being able to run the scam for as long as she did. she took them on an emotional roller coaster, with appearing on stage and confiding in them, making friends within the church. the whole community was affected by her. >> amanda documented everything, posting pictures on her website and updating her supposed cancer

treatments. it was all a fake. >> we searched szwarz. nancy's investigation prompted cops to start digging. the two of us were there in the bay area, when local police and federal agents raided amanda's house. it looks like amanda's husband is coming out. what's interesting about that raid is you generally don't always think of the irs being in charge of a raid. >> yeah, no, this was this was across forces between san jose police and the federal government with the irs. it was, i would say, a good 10 to 15 agents battering ram weapons. what you need to go, you know, pound on the door and announce that the irs is here. was there. if you're defrauding someone, it becomes a financial crime, whether it's an individual or a business or even the government. >> i had information and documentation that i shared with the irs, and they found that the

case was going to have enough for them to continue on. >> with her lies unraveling. amanda was busted. she pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was sentenced to five years. what's your opinion of her sentence? >> i was really surprised by it, in the sense that i was pleased by it, because the department of justice had asked for about 18 months and the judge, after hearing impact statements, the judge felt the need to update the sentencing guidelines and went for five years as opposed to 18 months. >> and now, after the abc doc was shot, there are new developments in the case. it seems freedom could be right around the corner. >> amanda recently was moved from the federal prison that she was at in texas to here in southern california to not quite a halfway house, but like a step down facility, which is a reentry program in the riverside county area, riverside, california. she's she's there

sarah saeed, teen sisters who made a desperate 911 call as the crime was unfolding. now, police are honing in on a suspect. yasir saeed is furious after learning that both of his teenage daughters have american boyfriends. then, when amina refuses an arranged marriage to a much older man in her father's native egypt, yasir goes ballistic. >> he pulled a gun on him that day and he was going to kill him. >> the girls know they have to escape to save their lives. along with their mother, patricia, they flee to oklahoma, but yasir calms down and urges them to come home. >> joseph begged her not to go back. he said, amina, you know what's going to happen. >> they knew if they ever went back that he would definitely kill them. >> still, patricia caves and the three women go back to texas. amina doesn't want to see her father, but patricia convinces

her and sister sarah to go have a meal with him to discuss the situation. the girls go with their father. what happens next is nothing short of horrifying. police dispatchers get a frantic 911 call from sarah. >> what's going on, ma'am? >> i'm dying. magwood rybar. unbelievably, sarah is being shot as she's calling. as cops try to track her location, dispatchers getnother 911 call about bodies in a cab parked at a taxi stand outside this hotel. >> but there are two people inside the cab, one in the passenger seat and one in the rear of the vehicle, and she has blood coming from her ear. >> cops arrive at the scene to find amina lying dead from two gunshot wounds and sarah from nine, but no driver. yasir

saeed. >> the officers, they began searching the area. any place that they could think of that he might go. >> police raided saeed's lewisville home. he was gone. never seen since. >> and it would take a dozen years to finally catch up with him. >> this is a good day for law enforcement. >> yasir saeed had been hiding in plain sight all along with the help of his egyptian family members. >> his flight from justice ended in justice for amina and sarah begins. >> his son islam pleads guilty to harboring a fugitive and is sentenced to ten years in federal prison, and yasir's brother receives 12 years for helping yasir evade capture. as for the accused killer himself, he pleads not guilty and goes to trial. two years later. >> did you kill your daughter that night? >> definitely not. i did not kill my daughters. >> the jury disagreed, deliberating only three hours before coming to a decision. >> we, the jury, unanimously

was helping him to hide. >> so when you finally got a chance to question him, what did he say? >> he said that there was a car following them and that when the car was following them, it was the girl's boyfriend's. and he was scared and afraid that they were going to harm him. so he said that he pulled over in the area of a bus station that was close to the hotel, and that he just got out and just walked away and just left the girls there. >> what a ridiculous story. >> yes. >> i know you cover a lot of horrific murder cases, but this one i understand really disturbed you. >> it did. everybody, you know, as we learned more about amina and sarah and their life, they were abused their entire life emotionally and physically. and it was a very sad case. and everybody was more than happy to come back and willing to come testify because they wanted to see yasir punished for what he
