people connected with its death have been caught, lindsay, who was 16 at the time of the murder, has evaded capture. it has the makings of a murder mystery novel. a rising social media star, a deadly betrayal and a female killer on the run. but sadly, this story is all too real. >> phoenix police are searching for leads in the murder of a 17 year old girl. >> just 17 years old. ejdsell espinosa had a world of possibilities ahead of her. she was about to start her senior year of high school in el mirage, near phoenix, arizona. sharing every moment of her life on social media. >> my daughter was kind of like the center of attention, and she was kind of like, in a way, kind of blindfolded by her lifestyle. >> blindfolded and perhaps naive to the danger posed by a new group of friends, which her dad called the wrong crowd. one night, when eduardo couldn't reach his daughter, he reported

her missing to the police. >> i was waiting and waiting and waiting. and yet she never replied. >> then the unimaginable news. >> the victim found shot to death in a car over the weekend. >> that murder victim, eduardo's beloved ejdsell. >> they were talking about having a, you know, defining a female, a woman in a vehicle, in an alley. deep down inside, i already knew it was, you know, my daughter, but i didn't want to believe it. >> investigative reporter justin lum covered the case in the fox ten phoenix youtube series aftermath. murdered in phoenix. >> it was the early morning hours of july 3rd, 2021, around 5 a.m. when a witness alerted authorities to a body found in a stolen lexus. it was the body of 17 year old itzel espinosa, who was sitting in the front passenger side of the car, and she had been shot multiple

times. the alleged shooter in this case is lindsay aguilar. >> she got into a confrontation with this person and then she called it quits. and then she kind of got away from the situation to remove herself from the area. >> an argument between the two teens started in the early morning hours. witnesses told police 18 year old lindsay aguilar first brutally beat ejdsell, but she wasn't done. >> ejdsell wanted no more of this fight and that's when she ran to this car and locked herself inside. now her friend, so-called friend jesus padilla, was there eventually. he is the one who actually gave lindsay the gun after she asked for it. and as she took that gun into her hands, is when lindsay allegedly fired multiple shots through the window, killing itself.

>> it didn't take long for police to track down jesus padilla, who admitted to supplying the gun. he was charged with first degree murder by facilitation at his sentencing. it sells. grieving family addressed him. family friends come around, but her room is empty. i can't hear her laughs, her music. >> and i wanted to look at you in the eye to tell you right now that what you did was wrong. >> jesús was sentenced to 13 years for reckless manslaughter for his part in ejdsell death. >> i want to apologize to both her and her family for what i've taken. what happened? she'll never deserved it. she was one of a kind. and i truthfully don't think words can possibly describe how wonderful and amazing she really was. >> while the defendant was not the person who actually pulled the trigger, he was the person who handed the gun over. >> to the person who actually pulled the trigger. a woman named lindsay aguilar. >> but where was lindsay

aguilar? >> we believe she's somewhere. >> in mexico. we're working with federal partners. we're also working with local mexican authorities to try to identify where she is. >> she could be anywhere in mexico, that she may have family members in mexico and in the u.s, and there are definitely people who know about her whereabouts, or at least her track. >> now, days have turned into months and even years as it sells, family continues to maintain her room as if she never left. >> walking inside it sells room. you definitely get a sense that you are frozen in time and taken back to a moment where she was still alive, and that you could envision her, you know, putting on her makeup, picking out an outfit for the night. you can see why they don't want to take that room apart and change it into something else. that is all they have left of her.

public's help solving the mysterious disappearance of college student amber wilde. like many college girls, amber had a diary. cops say that her diary, her most private space, is filled with clues. some little girls seem destined for greatness. amber wilde was one of them. >> i said if you could have had a half hour to talk to her, she would have changed the way you looked at life. >> steve wilde raised amber and her little sister as a single dad. >> she was very, very conscientious. she would ask me if i paid the rent, and it was having a 13 year old mother in the home. >> that conscientious little girl grew into a young woman with big dreams. >> her plans were to be a doctor and work with kids. >> and amber was well on her way as a junior at the university of wisconsin, green bay. >> just always planned everything to the t, and she always found herself able to accomplish whatever she put her

mind to. >> amber chronicled every detail of her journey in her diary, writing down daily activities and even her most private secrets. but just hours after one of her final entries in her diary, amber was involved in a car crash. >> she went and saw the medical staff at school. they told her that she most likely had a concussion and that someone should check in on her, whether it be in person or with phone calls. >> throughout the day. amber spoke with her dad, telling him that she had a blinding headache. amber asked him to make sure she woke up for class. >> i had a key for her apartment so i was able to go in there. there was nothing that had been going on in that apartment. >> and there was no amber either. when the worried father notices amber's car was missing, he called the green bay police. >> it was just totally out of character for her to go missing on her own. >> cops soon discover her car across the street from lambeau field, home of the green bay

packers. but there's no sign of amber. >> her car was found unlocked. keys were in the car. her purse was located in the trunk of the car, and her cell phone was actually located on the front seat of the car, still plugged in. >> before amber disappeared, she had her car serviced and they noted the mileage on her odometer. now there are 900 new unexplained miles. >> we don't know how those miles got on there. >> police suspected the worst. >> we've pretty much ruled it a homicide. there is nothing that we can find or have been able to find that she went missing on her own. >> who would want to hurt amber? >> she's her own star witness. >> cops found her personal diary in a possible motive. telling a friend i'm pregnant. then cops soon dived into what was happening six months before.

>> everybody was supportive. she really didn't have anybody that wasn't supportive. >> except possibly one person. the man amber told everyone was her baby's father. >> he was not happy. >> amber tells lowry the father is a burly, six foot, five inch tall, 21 year old highway construction worker she met at a party named matthew schneider. >> she just wanted the baby to know his or her father and have him be a part of that child's life. >> according to lowry, amber tries to get schneider involved with her pregnancy, but he refuses. lowry claims matthew even asked amber to get rid of the baby. >> he wanted her to have an abortion. he didn't want anything to do with it. she told me she never would do that. >> then green bay police begin digging deeper into amber's secret diary, and in her own words, she gives cops alarming insight into her final conversations with schneider.

>> basically, it was giving her ultimatums or threatening to either harm himself or that she'd never see the kid again. and he made these type of statements. >> i think she was killed. i think she was killed, and her body was disposed of. >> when she mysteriously disappeared. highway 29 that runs through the heart of green bay, wisconsin, was under major construction. police and amber's family think she and her unborn baby could be buried somewhere under all of that asphalt. >> i know what a certain person was, where he was working at the time. he had access to that. >> that person is matthew schneider. though he claims he barely knew amber. >> we've pretty much been able to prove that that was a lie, that he did have a sexual relationship with her, and amber thought that he was the father of her child. >> police say amber's phone records, combined with her secret diary read like a road map. they believe all roads lead

to schneider. >> i wanted nothing to do with the baby, and he wanted nobody to even know that he could even possibly have been the father of the child. >> but schneider has other serious issues. cops find out he also has a fiancee. >> i think the biggest thing was he didn't want heidi, his fiancee, to know because he didn't want that relationship to end. >> cops say in her diary, amber makes it clear she wanted schneider to come clean with his fiancee about the baby. when he refused, amber confronts matt's fiance face to face. >> she did tell matt's fiance that she was pregnant with matt's baby, and she also wrote a letter to matt's mother. >> according to amber's diary, schneider was livid. green bay police believed amber's diary left behind evidence. >> it's her talking to us. it's her telling us you know, what was going on in her life and

what she was doing. >> police hunt down schneider and get his side of the story. >> he denied to the initial detectives ever having a sexual relationship with amber. >> schneider was cooperative, telling investigators he met amber at a local restaurant but barely knew her. >> he told the detective that he probably maybe talked to her twice. >> schneider's fiance tells cops amber had an almost fatal attraction to matthew and was making it all up. >> she states that matt in no way had any sexual contact with amber at all. >> we confirmed a doctor performed an ultrasound and determined amber was about four and a half months along at the time of her disappearance. still, schneider maintains he did not have sex with amber, and there's no proof the fetus was his. >> once that baby was born, there would be the proof. >> but schneider's phone records confirm there was something going on with amber. >> in the time period they first met and the time period she went

missing from phone records and other statements, maybe around 60 times for sure. >> 60 calls between the two. >> there clearly was a back and forth going on, documented very well through phone records and a diary that amber kept. >> police say those phone records are evidence of first degree intentional homicide. >> he didn't want the pregnancy and she was not willing to terminate it. >> we obtained unsealed court documents naming matthew schneider as a prime suspect in amber's disappearance. schneider never offered an alibi for his whereabouts the day amber went missing and declined a polygraph. still, green bay police have never been able to formally charge him, possibly because amber was never found. a crime reporter tracked schneider to the home he shared with his former fiance, now wife, to ask more questions. >> we're investigating the
