the rain snow line. no advisories for travel, but do expect slick roadways if you're heading up today. meanwhile, the winds are generally light. a lot of clouds overhead and our temps much warmer this morning. we're up by 11 degrees in napa, up by seven sfo, where our temperatures read in the 40s and 50 sfo. good morning to you. at 50 degrees. we have 46 to start the morning in oakland. 39 in livermore. that's one of the chillier spots. but yesterday we were in the low 30s. so a better one out there, at least when it comes to the temps. and as we get into the afternoon that chance for showers will wind down. i'll have a look at what we can expect coming up. >> thanks, rosemary. happening now. san francisco firefighters are conducting a search and rescue operation near pier 32 along the embarcadero. they're looking for a person who was reported missing in the chilly bay waters shortly after 1030 last night. this is video from citizen app. firefighters say they've already rescued one person who was reported missing in that same area. the search

for the second person involves a team of firefighters and several fire boats. stay with mornings on two for updates. >> all right. 702 is your time. president trump's tough rhetoric on illegal immigration sparking protests across the country. >> one such demonstration is happening right now on the peninsula in san mateo. that's where we find ktvu tory gains. good morning. tory. what's happening there right now? >> good morning guys. that's right. we are live here outside of san mateo city hall where a march is kicking off. i'm going to step out of the frame so you can take a look over my shoulder. a large group has gathered here in support of immigration reform. they are kicking off here and marching all the way to daly city today. now we want to take a closer look at the immigration numbers we've been seeing over the past few weeks. just about a month into president trump's second term. now, according to a report from axios, the deportation since the inauguration, trump's border czar tom homan says about 14,000 immigrants were arrested during the first few weeks in

office. now, some of those arrests took place right here in the bay area. homan says most of those arrested had, quote, criminal histories, but that was not further clarified. we do know from the white house press secretary's comments that this administration considers all undocumented immigrants to be criminals. now, trump's deportations over the past month appear to be lagging behind those of former president joe biden. during his final month in office, biden's team arrested more than 21,000 unauthorized immigrants in november, compared to just 14,000 over the past several weeks reported by trump's team. now, borders are, homan says, border crossings have dropped about 92% since trump took office for his second term. so the big question is, is that tough rhetoric working? now, we spoke with one of the organizers of this protest march today. here's what she had to say. >> i'm proud. mexican american, daughter of immigrant parents. i'm super proud of my family. they've done so much, and all the girls to their families have

done so much. and we see our parents and we see their sacrifices and their struggles. so we're just here today to represent our families, our friends, our community members. my entire community is made up of a ton of immigrants and a ton of family members that have sacrificed so much to be here and, you know, to follow the american dream. so we're so proud today to be their voice, because i know a lot of people are afraid. so we're here today to kind of be the voice and be the change today for all those people that are afraid to come out today. >> we are back out here, live in san mateo, where folks are getting ready to start that march. as you can see, it is a large group here in support. now they say they are marching for immigration reform. now, i don't want to fool you. there is one counter protester across the way. he is a small but it's a small but vocal group. he's definitely making his thoughts known. but obviously you can see there is a large crowd here in support of immigration reform today. we'll keep you updated on this march throughout the morning. live from san mateo tory gains ktvu, fox two news.

game, including kyrie irving, anthony edwards and kevin durant. but all eyes were on the bay area's hometown hero of this year's all star game. warriors superstar steph curry. curry says returning to the longtime home of the dubs in oakland was an emotional experience. >> to have a little bit of a moment to honor and reminisce the 47 years that we played in this building, the ten years that i had and, you know, growing up in the game inside of these walls, the energy in this building that can come back just like that. it was i've enjoyed it to the fullest. >> the venue was also known as oracle arena during the warriors dynasty days. curry says he's attended three concerts inside this building since the warriors moved to chase center back in 2019. >> there are several nba all-star weekend events happening today ahead of this evening's big game at san francisco's chase center at 1230 this afternoon. fans can watch the g league next up game at the

forget about san francisco's chinese new year parade. thousands of people filled the streets last night to watch the floats and the performers. ktvu christien kafton was in the middle of all that action and takes us inside the celebration. >> the celebrations to welcome the year of the snake started off with a bang. shortly after 5 p.m, the parade got underway, full of color and energy. san francisco's city attorney said it best. >> welcome to the best lunar new year parade outside of asia, in the oldest, most historic and the most amazing chinatown in the united states here in san francisco. >> for sarah fremont and erik estrada, the martial artists were a highlight. >> yeah, that was super cool. i mean, like, it's just, like, so athletic and they're so flexible. and then just seeing, like all of that is super cool and like a very, like traditional very like respective to the traditions that they have. i think it's very awesome. >> they're already saying while this was their first time here, it won't be their last.

>> i had such an amazing time. it's really fun. i think i'll come back again. >> organizers estimated 3 million people turned out to watch the parade in person and on television. and while it's fun for the audience to watch the parade roll by, those in the parade say they're having a blast, too. >> oh, i love this parade. i mean, we got tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people lined up on market street. it's a great day to be in san francisco. >> daniel lurie walked the parade last year as a candidate, and he's walking it again this year as san francisco's mayor. >> it was one of my favorite events of the campaign. i walked the whole route. i was in the car for a second. i was like, i got to get out and run around. so the enthusiasm is infectious out here. >> the excitement from the crowd is electric. emcee stephen chun is a veteran of the parade and says it never gets old. >> it's a lot of celebration. we have a lot of culture, but also a lot of schools participating. we have a lot of different

[ambient noise] to a robbery in rohnert park. here's video from the incident. police say 19 year old myles gerald wilkerson, from oakland, jumped out of a car nea pepboys on redwood drive. you can see it right there. this happened around 1 p.m. friday. he snatched a bank bag from a pepboys employee who had returned from the bank. officers tracked the car to daly city. the car fled and eventually crashed in san francisco. four people inside that vehicle were arrested, including wilkerson. police say they found the bank deposit bag in the car. an update now to a stabbing in santana row in san jose. officers say the man who was stabbed friday night near the shopping area has died. officers were called to santana row in stevens creek boulevard just after 7:00. the victim was taken

to the hospital with life threatening injuries but did not survive. san jose police say this is the city's third homicide of the year. >> three. top u.s. foreign policy officials plan to meet with russian leaders in saudi arabia later this week. they're scheduled to discuss a path toward ending the war in ukraine. the meeting marks the first time the u.s. and russia have sat down for formal, high level talks to map out a plan to end the fighting. the u.s. is expected to put pressure on russian president vladimir putin to break the kremlin's ties with three other nations who are tied to this conflict. >> now, what we're going to do is try to break this alliance that he currently has. he's got an alliance around with north korea that wasn't there before. he's got an alliance with iran that wasn't there before. he's got an alliance with china that wasn't there before me four years ago, before. >> secretary of state marco rubio will lead the u.s. delegation in these negotiations with russia. these talks come less than a week after president trump spoke on the phone with

putin, saying their two nations must work together to end the war. however, ukrainian president vladimir zelensky is demanding his country be directly involved in any peace talks. >> at 716, an american has been arrested in russia. customs says a 28 year old, caleb wayne byers, was arrested after they found cannabis laced fruit preserves in his luggage. moscow authorities say a drug sniffing, dog flagged byers bag during a routine check. inside, inspectors found two plastic jars and a pouch of cannabis sweets. byers claimed the items were medically prescribed in the u.s. for travel use. if he's convicted, he will face up to 70 years in prison. >> hundreds of people gathered in savannah, georgia, this weekend to pay tribute to the american airlines pilot who was killed in last month's mid-air collision near washington, dc. >> he was known for his strong work ethic, his leadership and his kindness. >> georgia congressman buddy carter was among the speakers in

yesterday's memorial service for samuel lilly. the 28 year old pilot was among the 67 people killed in the collision of an american airlines jet and a u.s. military helicopter over the potomac river. and fox's madeline rivera says federal investigators are now releasing new information on what may have caused that crash. >> potentially miscommunications, conflicting information about the helicopters altitude. these are just some of the latest findings by the ntsb as it tries to figure out what led to the crash. the ntsb says about two minutes before the crash, air traffic control notified the blackhawk that a plane was approaching runway 33. but the blackhawk may not have received that transmission. then, seconds before the crash, air traffic control notified the blackhawk to pass behind the regional jet. it's not clear, though, if the blackhawk crew ever got that crucial message. >> transmission was stepped on by a point eight second. mike key from the blackhawk. the blackhawk was keying the mic to

communicate with atc. >> the ntsb is also investigating why there's a discrepancy with the data regarding the blackhawks altitude. the crash likely happened at around 300ft, which was around 100ft higher than the limit for helicopters in that location. but the blackhawk crew may have had inaccurate altitude readings. minutes before the collision. >> the pilot flying indicated they were at 300ft. the instructor pilot indicated they were at 400ft. neither pilot made a comment to accussing an altitude discrepancy. at this time, we don't know why there was a discrepancy between the two. that's something that the investigative team is analyzing. >> the ntsb says the blackhawk was doing a checkride, which is essentially an exam. and on this flight, the crew was likely wearing night vision goggles. the ntsb says it will do a visibility study to figure out what the crew could and could not see. in washington, mother

re top u.s. foreign policy officials plan to meet with russian leaders in saudi arabia later this week. they're scheduled to discuss a path toward ending the war in ukraine. the meeting marks the first time the u.s. and russia have sat down for formal, high level talks to map out a plan to end the fighting. here at home, san francisco firefighters are conducting a search and rescue operation near pier 32 along the embarcadero this morning. they're looking for a person who was reported missing in the chilly bay waters shortly after 1030 last night. firefighters say they have already rescued another person who was reported missing in that same area. >> a 16 year old boy who fell 30ft down a mine shaft was saved by cal fire. it was all caught on video to rescue rescuers.

live look over golden gate park, part of the pacific, as well as the bay. all right, let's take a look at storm tracker two. where is the rain falling at this time? primarily over the north bay. and that's where it has been for most of the morning. if we squeeze in a bit closer. tapering off? just some. it was widespread just about half hour ago. now we have pockets on the coastline, pockets in our north bay hills inside the bay, san francisco bay, as well as san pablo stretching over towards vallejo. i-80 towards fairfield is a wet one at this time, and the east bay shore, including areas like oakland, emeryville, berkeley, richmond. we have the bay bridge there covered alameda, few light scattered showers, and then we go south and we are mainly dry. once this moves out, we will be left with cloudy skies and dry weather for at least a few days. we are looking at sunday evening where it has moved on. moved on from the sierra as well. snow falling in the sierra blue canyon reporting a little bit of rain.

rhetoric on illegal immigration has been sparking protests across the country. in fact, there's a demonstration happening right now on the peninsula. ktvu tory gaines live this morning in san mateo. tory. we saw a group of people gathering last hour. what's it look like there now? >> man. andre. this group, they are young. they are quick moving because just minutes ago, you guys saw that live shot of this large group of people. they have already worked their way through here on el camino real in san mateo. this group is organized by a group of four young women. i was able to speak with one of the young women about the reason they're out here today. here is what she had to say. if we have that clip. >> my entire community is made up of a ton of immigrants and a ton of family members that have sacrificed so much to be here and, you know, to follow the american dream. so we're so proud today to be their voice, because i know a lot of people are afraid. so we're here today to kind of be the voice and be the change today for all those

people that are afraid to come out today. >> to make sure that america maintains its. >> now we want to take a closer look at the numbers. just about a month into president trump's second term. now, according to a report, a report from axios, trump's border czar tom homan says about 14,000 immigrants were arrested during the first few weeks in office. some of those arrests took place right here in the bay area. homan says most of those arrested had, quote, criminal histories, but it was not clarified. we do know from the white house press secretary's comments that this administration considers all undocumented immigrants to be criminals. so we are looking for further clarification on that. now, trump's deportations over the past month appear to be lagging behind those of former president joe biden during his final month in office. now, biden's team arrested more than 21,000 unauthorized immigrants in november. border czar tom homan does say the border crossings have dropped 92% since trump took office for his second term. so the big question is, is that tough rhetoric working now? we saw one counter-protester out

we are highlighting one bay area group whose art you may have come across. take a look at some of the stunning murals throughout the bay area. these vibrant pieces of art were created by the nonprofit organization the bay area mural program. we've done stories on them in the past the local artists. they use art to tell the stories of underserved and underrepresented communities. and joining us now is bwm founder andre moore. thank you so much for joining us. bay area mural project. you know, i live downtown oakland, so i get to see your murals. one of the most amazing things sometimes i feel like they pop up out of nowhere. you guys are good. yeah. tell us a bit about the work that you do. >> we're busy. yeah. so we work with over 30 artists throughout the bay area, and we really just want to highlight just different communities and do the community engagement so that people get to see the public art that they want to see. >> but, you know, oakland people might think of oakland for other things, but art is really

ingrained in oakland. when you walk around all parts of downtown oakland, you see art everywhere in different forms as well. how important is it for oakland to embrace this form of art around the city? >> oh, it's super important. i mean, so many artists live in oakland, reside in oakland, born in oakland. so really, just to highlight the culture of oakland is so important by highlighting the art. >> and so right now you guys are part of all star weekend as well. tell us how. >> so man, we're commissioned to do five murals. we're working with jordan, nike, the valkyries, the warriors. we have pieces over at the chase center. we have pieces downtown oakland with timothy b sorelle, rachel wolf and a host of other artists that we work with. >> i mean, just people understand this is a group of people that just love art. and this is not a big money making operation, but but the work that you all do is, is just stunning. and it really captures attention for, for the folks that come around. i know when i, when i look, look out my window, i see many of the murals out there and

people are amazed when they come by and take a look at it. and you have these these shirts here with bmp all star for all star weekend. tell us a bit about that. >> yeah, so we created some merchandise. we actually did a mural over on telegraph with jordan and nike for shoe palace. we had like 30 children come out and help us paint the mural, so we had made some merchandise. jordan gave us some sneakers. wow, guys, it was amazing. >> so the kids got the sneakers. >> kids got all brand new sneakers, merchandise, jackets, everything. >> what a what a fun time to have. i mean, the impact you all are making on this community and the support that you're getting. tell us about that support. who are you getting that support from to continue the work that you do? >> yeah. no, it's great when we get city support from oakland, san francisco, you know, we're a nonprofit, so we apply for grants. but then we work with a lot of companies as well too. we try and work with local based organizations and groups. but like i was telling you earlier, we just went to kenya and did a solar and art project over there. >> tell us a little bit about that. we only have a few seconds

left. but you went to kenya. who went with you? what did you all do while you were there? >> so we took 12 artists from the local bay area to kenya to install solar in a village that hadn't had power in like five years. the icing on the cake was we did a mural on their school. >> i was going to say, what's the what's the art connection to this? because i know that's great too, but the art connection. >> to it. so we're taking our art and really partnering up with just different impactful projects like installing solar and just, you know, making sure that people see the artwork. but we're also making an impact in communities that really need it. >> andre, real quick, what's next for you guys here? any other big things happening? >> we have a lot of big projects, all local here in the san francisco bay area, but some of them haven't been revealed yet. some really cool partners. valkyries. so look forward to our mural with the valkyries downtown oakland. all right. webster and 14th street. >> this might be the first big mural for the valkyries. now that they're. you know, we just. >> had. >> the draft a few weeks ago. >> we're going to be doing it with the luminaries. so the bay area mural programs really excited about that.

east, concord, transitioning over towards highway four. bay point, pittsburg. some light rain for you there. snow in the sierra. snow levels down to about 5000ft. no advisory. not expecting a whole lot. in fact, as i put this into motion, you'll notice by noontime the blue is gone and we again will have mostly cloudy skies. and with that, i will call for the possibility of at least a few sprinkles, because i would hate for you to be caught off guard if you're out and about, but it's not going to be much. and then as we get into wednesday morning, another round of what appears to be light rain moving through the bay area. with the added humidity in place, the added clouds. we are much warmer this morning. now it's all relative, right? because 47 degrees is not warm in oakland, but warmer than where we've been in the north bay, 45 in napa, and for the entire east bay, 43 in livermore. thinking about getting out to walk the dog. well, if you wait a little while longer, the better. the chance that we will have mostly cloudy skies and dry conditions by

have sat down for formal, high level talks to map out a plan to end the fighting. the u.s. is expected to put pressure on russian president vladimir putin to break the kremlin's ties with three other nations who are tied to this conflict. >> right now, what we're going to do is try to break this alliance that he currently has. he's got an alliance with north korea that wasn't there before. he's got an alliance with iran that wasn't there before. he's got an alliance with china that wasn't there before me four years ago, before. >> secretary of state marco rubio will lead the u.s. delegation in these negotiations with russia. these talks come less than a week after president trump spoke on the phone with putin, saying the two nations must work together to end the war. however, ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy is demanding his country be directly involved in any peace talks. >> the american has been arrested in russia for allegedly possessing cannabis. customs say caleb wayne byres was arrested after they found cannabis laced

fruit preserves in his luggage. moscow authorities say a drug sniffing, dog flagged byers's bag during a routine check, and inside, inspectors found two plastic jars and a pouch of cannabis sweets. the 28 year old claimed the items were medically prescribed in the u.s. for travel use. if convicted, he will face up to seven years in prison. >> hundreds of people gathered in savannah, georgia, this weekend to pay tribute to the american airlines pilot, who was killed in last month's mid-air collision near washington, dc. >> he was known for his strong work ethic, his leadership and his kindness. >> georgia congressman buddy carter was among the speakers in yesterday's memorial service for samuel lilly. the 28 year old pilot was among the 67 people killed in the collision of an american airlines jet and a u.s. military helicopter over the potomac river. and fox's madeline rivera says federal investigators are now releasing new information on what may have caused that crash.

>> potentially miscommunications, conflicting information about the helicopters altitude. these are just some of the latest findings by the ntsb, as it tries to figure out what led to the crash. the ntsb says about two minutes before the crash, air traffic control notified the blackhawk that a plane was approaching runway 33. but the blackhawk may not have received that transmission. then, seconds before the crash, air traffic control notified the blackhawk to pass behind the regional jet. it's not clear, though, if the blackhawk crew ever got that crucial message. >> transmission was stepped on by a 0.8 second. mike key from the blackhawk. the blackhawk was keying the mic to communicate with atc. >> the ntsb is also investigating why there's a discrepancy with the data regarding the blackhawk's altitude. the crash likely happened at around 300ft, which was around 100ft higher than the limit for helicopters in that location. but the blackhawk crew may have had inaccurate altitude readings minutes before the

collision. >> the pilot flying indicated they were at 300ft. the instructor pilot indicated they were at 400ft. neither pilot made a comment to buzzing an altitude discrepancy. at this time, we don't know why there was a discrepancy between the two. that's something that the investigative team is analyzing. >> the ntsb says the blackhawk was doing a checkride, which is essentially an exam. and on this flight, the crew was likely wearing night vision goggles. the ntsb says it will do a visibility study to figure out what the crew could and could not see in washington. mala rivera, fox news. >> the california highway patrol wants to bring more women into its ranks. this weekend, the chp academy in west sacramento held a recruiting event. more than 100 women signed up for the event, but only a quarter of them showed up. the agency says currently, only 6% of its force

are women. one interested applicant says she's ready to break barriers and show the world that women are more than ready to step up. >> i have an 11 year old daughter that i want to show that no matter what obstacles come or what type of profession it seems like a woman shouldn't be in, it is definitely possible. >> to join the academy. you have to be between the ages of 21 and 35 years old, and be able to pass the physical agility test. starting pay is more than $120,000 a year for new officers. officers also get to retire at 50 with full medical benefits for life. >> 826 now an igloo ice chest is getting recalled because of a risk of amputation. the company is recalling back over a million of its 90 quart flip and top rolling coolers. the consumer product safety commission says the toe handle can pinch fingers against the cooler, risking crushing hazards or even amputation. the company has received 12 reports of fingertip
