than sunday. low clouds. patchy fog. mix of sun and clouds. and there's a lot of these higher clouds coming in. so temps will be upper 50s. low 60s. all right, let's get back to the news now. >> thank you steve. today is presidents day. sal has the morning off. so we are covering traffic for you. >> as we're doing the traffic. >> i want to first look at the right outside the arena there in oakland along 880. and traffic moving along just fine on this holiday. a lot of people probably have the day off. >> here's a look at the san mateo bridge. there's traffic out there, but no problems. everything is moving nicely. >> and checking in on the bay bridge toll plaza. also few cars heading into the city, but not too bad at this hour. we'll keep you posted. certainly, if there is any problem this morning for the commute. new. this morning, police in san leandro say they fired their weapons at a suspect during an arrest last night, although no one was hurt. it happened at about 830 last night in the area of 164th avenue and east 14th street in san leandro. police say they were

investigating an assault when they came across the suspect. at one point, officers fired their guns, but it appears no one was hit since police say no one was injured. san leandro police are handing over the investigation to the alameda county sheriff's office, and they're not releasing any other details at this time. >> our time now. 501 well, today is the president's day holiday. the holiday was originally intended to celebrate george washington's birthday, but it evolved to honor all u.s. presidents, past and present. presidents day is fallen on the third monday in february since 1971. that's when congress passed a bill to move several federal holidays to a monday. now, today, there will be no regular mail delivery because of the federal holiday. banks and stock exchanges will be closed, as well as most schools and courthouses, and many public transit agencies will be on sunday or holiday schedules. >> on this president's day. holiday demonstrations are planned here in the bay area and around the country to protest

policies of president trump. today in oakland, one protests will start at 11 a.m. at fruitvale plaza, followed by a march to lake merritt. another protest in san francisco starts at noon along van ness. also at noon, another protest in san jose is set to accuse the trump administration of having an anti-democratic agenda for taking illegal actions, including the immigration crackdown at the border. >> our time now. 502. around the bay area, sideshows took over streets and highways. this is what it was like saturday night in oakland at maritime and grand avenue, near the port of oakland. cars were spinning under interstate 80, and people were hanging out of the windows of those cars. spectators were also shining helicopter hovering overhead. >> in richmond, a huge crowd gathered at the intersection of carlson and 55th just after midnight on saturday. the sideshow was broken up fairly quickly, though, since police showed up within about ten

minutes. >> in daly city, a similar scene at mission and beckler streets. a big crowd gathered as cars shut down that intersection just after 2:00 saturday morning. the police from san francisco and daly city were finally breaking up the sideshow. >> and on the bay bridge, a sideshow was stopped and it stopped traffic. just before 230 yesterday morning east of treasure island. drivers were out of their cars and on the road before that sideshow was finally cleared by police. the chp says 80 to 100 vehicles were stopped in total and one driver left their car, tried to run away. he was arrested and charged with dui. two cars were impounded. >> our time is now 504. hundreds of people filled the church in los angeles, paying tribute to the 29 people who died in the recent wildfires. >> we shall over come some.

>> it was a somber ceremony. it took place at all saints church in pasadena. there was music and prayers. the community mourned the people who lost their lives in the wildfires. author john philip newell led the interfaith service. his sister was among the thousands of people who lost her home in the eaton fire. >> in the twinkling of an eye, it seemed it was all gone to ashes. >> the memorial service also celebrated the resilience of the southern california community. the people attending that church service say they're determined to rebuild their homes and businesses. >> one of san francisco's busiest weekends, coming to an end from lunar new year celebrations to the celebrity pickleball tournament and, of course, the nba all-star weekend. ktvu james torres live from thrive city this morning, where the city is tying a bow on all the festivities over the past few days. james.

>> and good morning to you, pam. well, you just asked just about anyone here in the city of san francisco, and they'll tell you this was one of the most fun weekends that you've had in the city in a really long time. and even with thousands of people flooding in here, all the chaos seemed to be managed decently well. but there was truly something for everyone. of course, there were all of what was going on for the basketball and sports fans, the actual all star events themselves. there were a lot of fun to watch. from the dunk contest to the new format of the nba all star game, seeing steph curry do his thing. and this is the first major event in the bay area over the span of the next 18 months. next year. we'll look ahead to super bowl 60 and the 2026 world cup. we talked to people about it over the weekend, and they say it's a real exciting time to be in the bay area. >> it's great. you know, i think it's been a long time coming to have something of this magnitude in san francisco since the pandemic, bring some life back

to the city. and i see, you know, thgs growing. over the last couple of years, i've seen more people coming into the city for certain things, and this is one of the big ones. >> the bay area host committee is the organization helping bring these events to the bay area. it will become the first region to ever host these events. back to back to back. it predicts these next 18 months will inject $1.4 billion into the local economy and create tens of thousands of long lasting jobs. so there were great concerts. there's a new bar at thrive city that debuted just in time, and a celebrity sighting just about anywhere in the city all weekend long. we're live this morning in san francisco. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you james. warriors superstar steph curry has been named the most valuable player of the 2025 nba all-star game. >> oh, stop. don't do it to him. i thought he said yep.

>> nba fans from across the country packed san francisco's chase center last night for the league's 74th all star game. steph took home the nba trophy following his dazzling performance in the championship game of the event's new four team mini tournament. curry said he was proud to be part of the team that hosted this year's all star game. >> it was awesome from start to finish. the hosting experience was unbelievable. i'm not going to complain about being tired or exhausted. this is an honor and a blessing to be able to, you know, celebrate and share this beautiful bay area that's been a part of my life for the last 16 years. >> curry's clutch performance led shaq's all star veterans team to victory over international stars. it was a three game event, the first team to reach 40 points won each game. >> well, now that we get a little break here, we'll take a look at the snowfall. this is the best system of the season by far for the sierra northern sierras 112% of normal central, though 75 southern still playing the also ran their 57 statewide

average is 81. we're actually doing a little bit better on rainfall than they are on snow, but you know, it was a good system over the last couple of days there. a lot of high clouds will be spilling over the ridge today. 30 for a few. menlo park 39, walnut creek 3940 for most, a couple of 50s in there. go north. we find a lot of 40s. a lot of high clouds are streaming in. there's also a lot of low clouds, more low cloud deck than fog, but still sonoma's 41 degrees occidental's 41 degrees fairfax 42, 20 and 30. up in the mountains, minden is 30. reno is 34. truckee 27 degrees. all quiet up there. we get those. see those higher clouds right there? so maybe a mix of low clouds, sun and some high clouds. so look for low clouds in the morning and high clouds in the afternoon. temps will bump up maybe a teeny bit similar to yesterday. i would think it wasn't too bad yesterday. and then we'll have a nice warm tuesday and then that next system is on the way. it does look like this will give us some light rain, probably again, a little bit better than what we

thousands of, quote unquote, enemy alien residents, including mr. ishiro kataoka, the proprietor of the akai hotel on post street, just down the street from here. he was the first japanese to be detained in san francisco. >> he would not be the last. more than 120,000 people of japanese descent were sent to internment camps because they were deemed a threat to national security. 70,000 were american citizens. >> when they removed the leadershipf community, they broke up families. and so all these families lost, you know, their fathers, basically. and so what we're seeing in detention today is exact replication of this dynamic. they're breaking families apart. they're separating them. >> the impact was enduring both financially and emotionally. >> you know, we're just only beginning to understand the deep impacts of what happens to

children when you take their parents away or take them away from their parents. >> and that order stretched beyond our borders. >> our family, as being leaders of the community, businessmen, just like in peru, we're targeted, just like community leaders were targeted here in the united states. and so my father and cousins and my uncles and his family were kidnaped and brought here to the united states. my father's cousin was used in the second hostage exchange. and then so they endured, you know, indefinite detention during world war two. and then but it didn't end with the end of world war two. >> it didn't end. but upon release, many resisted talking about the injustice. and so this night was about doing just that.

organizers say that is a key step in trying to stop it from happening again. claudine wong, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you claudine. peace talks are set to begin this week to end russia's war onetary of o arrived in saudi arabia overnight to sit down with russian officials. however, ukraine is not included in the talks yet. ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy says his country must be involved in any talks, adding he will not accept any decision made without input from ukrainian leaders. president trump says president zelensky will be included in the process. analysts say both sides may have to give. >> one thing is clear no one is going to walk out of this with everything that they want. it's not going to be the perfect deal for the ukrainians. it's not going to be the perfect deal for the russians. it's not going to be every single thing that the americans would want in this. >> president trump has already said ukraine is unlikely to get

all of its land back. trump had a phone call with putin last week. he also spoke separately with president zelensky, trying to lay the groundwork for a deal. >> our time now. 517 in moscow, hundreds of people gathered to mark one year since the death of russian opposition leader alexei navalny. he died while serving a prison sentence in an arctic penal colony. officials say he died from natural causes, but his family and supporters believe he was killed on orders from the kremlin. thousands of people risked being arrested last year to attend the funeral of navalny. >> all right. there was snow and some wet weather over the weekend in the sierra. this is a look at the conditions in soda springs along interstate 80. chain controls were in place between truckee and nyack, but those have been lifted. so it seems like steve, for those people who are on ski week, school's out. seems like they got some nice new snow and maybe

some clear conditions. >> it was the best system of the season for them. no doubt about it here. yes. looks much quieter now, so if you're up there, it'll be great. rainfall. if you're north, it's good. if you're south and east, it's not so good here. santa rosa is over 37. i use the rain year, by the way, which is july 1st and not the water year, which is october 1st. and the city is almost 17.40. that's 113% of normal. yet livermore is only 66%, just shy of six and a half. and san jose would. they picked up nearly two inches of rain to catapult them to 81%. but again, this has been there's been a dividing line, no doubt about it, this entire season about marin county, san francisco, north, east and south. it's been a tall order to get some decent rain in there, although they did last system. a lot of high clouds spilling in, and that's really kind of the end result here, along with some low clouds and fog, 30s, 40s and 50s on the temps around us 38 degrees. walnut creek is 39. probably a few more here before everything is said and done, but there's some patchy low clouds, fog, and

a few high clouds, probably keeping most of the lows in the 40s. 27 truckee, 33 south lake tahoe. overall, though, we are looking for just these higher clouds spilling in but mostly sunny. partly sunny here, so low clouds in the morning. some of that can be a littleo burn off, but high clouds in the afternoon. so we just say a mixed bag of low, high clouds and some sun. that tuesday, though, looks good before that next system starts to roll inhey morning. does not look like much. but again, san francisco oakland north looks okay. not much south and nothing new there. after that system on wednesday. i think we are done for a while. it's kind of the way it's looking. unless something develops around sunday. one forecast models hinting at that, but the others are not, so it sure is monday. a lot of low clouds, high clouds, some sun in there and temperatures will end up in the upper 50s to low 60s. >> all right, steve, thank you. time now 520. bird flu found in pets in another state on the west coast. we'll tell you what cat owners should know about possible contamination and stress from relationships could

undisclosed milk content. the quaker oats company makes the pancake mix. they've already issued a recall for 10,000 boxes of it, but the affected boxes were not sold here in california. well, the new head of the department of agriculture says fixing the nation's chicken and egg crisis will be a top priority for her. brooke rollins says she's already had briefings about trying to resolve the problem, and is working on an avian flu strategy. egg prices jumped 15% last month alone, and some stores are limiting the amount of eggs customers can buy. >> egg prices have reached an all time high. >> it was a long before i ever got here. it was at an all time this i remember. i've been here for three weeks and when you saw the inflation numbers, i've been here for three weeks. i had nothing to do with inflation. this was caused by biden. officials say 148 million birds have already been killed, 18 million affected in december

alone. that's causing shortages as well as higher prices. the usda predicts prices could jump by as much as 20% this year, because before the flu is curtailed, well, more bird flu cases have been reported in cats along the west coast. oregon's department of agriculture reports two house cats tested positive for bird flu after eating the same contaminated pet food. authorities say the owners of those cats decided to humanely euthanized their cats because their illness was so severe. another person in oregon had to put down two of her cats after they contracted the virus as well. >> a freezer full of food that's probably contaminated until monday. she just couldn't even walk into her litter box anymore. and by tuesday morning, i had my home euthanasia person watching me cry. hold her. >> health officials warn cat

ktvu tori gaines joining us live at the bay bridge toll plaza right now with more about this. good morning tori. >> good morning dave. and yeah that's right. several cities saw reports of sideshows. we're talking daly city, san francisco, oakland and richmond. but we want to take you straight to that video. take a look video from the scenes of those sideshows, starting first in richmond late saturday night into sunday morning shows a car with a smashed rear end spinning at high speeds as people hang out the passenger side window. now this taking place at the intersection of carlson and 55th street, a large crowd of spectators is also visible, gathering around the cars spinning at high speeds. we see this all the time across the bay. next up was the intersection of maritime and grand avenue right here in oakland. video shows major streets blocked by the activity as police responded on ground as well as in the air. smoke from the tires can be seen billowing into t sky as spectators in

and the trump administration has and shrinking the size of the federal government since taking office. >> our time now. 533. there have been protests all over the country against president trump. his plan to deport thousands of undocumented immigrants. a new group called rights over borders marched over the weekend. they marched more than 20 miles to bring attention to immigration reform. the protesters gathered at san mateo city hall yesterday and then marched along el camino real to daly city. the marchers say they want the u.s. government to make it easier for people who've been in the country to stay here. >> my entire community is made up of a ton of immigrants and a ton of family members that have sacrificed so much to be here and, you know, to follow the american dream. so we're so proud today to be their voice, because i know a lot of people are afraid. >> my mom and my dad. >> now, the immigration registry last updated during former president ronald reagan's time in office, allows undocumented immigrants who entered the

country before january 1st of 1972 to be deemed eligible for a green card. rights over borders hopes to see that cutoff date adjusted. >> well, the fda is the latest agency hit by the trump administration's cuts to the federal workforce. probationary employees who review the safety of food ingredients, medical devices and tobacco products were fired on saturday. the total number of employees affected is not clear, but as many as 1200 probationary employees were expected to be cut across. the entire department of health and human services. the trump administration also asking the u.s. supreme court to allow it to fire the head of the federal agency that protects whistleblowers. justice department filings obtained by the associated press asked the court to lift a past order from a judge that reinstates hampton dellinger to lead the office of special counsel. now, dellinger is has argued that the law only

allows him to be dismissed over problems with his job performance, which were not cited in his dismissal email earlier this month. >> our time is now 535. police in san jose say they've arrested several people after a huge fight broke out in downtown san jose over the weekend. it happened early sunday morning, about 1230 near san pedro square, which was busy with valentine's day celebrations and also the nba all star event. san jose police say a big fight broke out. it turned into a brawl. police say when they tried to arrest people involved, other people tried to attack them and that started another fight. visitors in san pedro square were surprised by the violence. >> that stuff is more personal. it's not random attacks and stuff like that. it's just people got problems with each other, but that's about it. >> now, police say some of the police officers involved in the fight have minor injuries, but no one else was hurt. downtown business owners say they're

working together to provide security and also keep their customers as safe as possible. >> one year after a new california law to protect children during child custody battles went into effect, the people who work to pass it are being honored. now, the law is meant to protect children from abusive parents during custody cases. it requires judges to be trained on domestic violence and child abuse and strengthens protections for victims. was named after ahmaud andressian junior, who was killed by his father in 2017 at just five years old. the boy's mother joined advocates to honor those who fought for the law. >> i have very. >> mixed emotions. the past few days have been very emotional. i am the proudest mama that works on this planet, that walks on this planet. but i also carry that level of sadness knowing that my son's death had to be the catalyst for something like this to happen. >> andreessen's father was

well, the best system of the season by far was friday into saturday. they are now 81% of average doing okay to the north central sierra, which includes tahoe region. there is 75 and then 57 southern. so again we've had better rain than they've had snow. but that last system was the best by far. a lot of high clouds spilling over and some low clouds underneath this veil as well. 4050 on the temps. walnut creek at 39. there are a few on the peninsula. woodside 37, redwood city, atherton, stanford all at 39 yet 49 montara beach in pacifica, pillar point at 48. so upper 30s, mainly low 40s, around 101 to 80. but on the coast, san mateo coast it's mid 40s to upper 42 bits and truckee, south lake tahoe at 33 and 34. in reno. all quiet. looks good. if you're up there. one more system will clip us on wednesday. today it's low clouds in the morning, some patchy fog, a mix of sun and high clouds in the afternoon. tuesday looks better, more sun and also a little bit warmer. and that next system looks like it will give us some

obey. it happened just before 1030 saturday night near pier 32, just south of the bay bridge. firefighters managed to pull the woman from the water. she was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. firefighters and the coast guard continued to search for the male victim using boats, thermal imaging and drones. the search was officially suspended at noon yesterday. there's no word yet on how the two ended up in the water. >> our time now. 553 in placer county, a 16 year old boy who fell 30ft down into a mine shaft was rescued by cal fire and it was all caught on video. >> rescuer ready. rescuers ready. rescuers ready. rescue ready. rescue ready. >> now, this is the video that cal fire shared on social media. officials say the teenager and his friends were exploring an horizontal mine shaft on monday. they tried to repel down using ropes, but the rope snapped and the teenager fell 30ft. firefighters rushed to the

happened near the port of oakland. people were hanging out of their cars while the vehicles were speeding and spinning along interstate 880. several people are under arrest in connection to a big fight in downtown san jose. that area was packed with people celebrating valentine's weekend and the nba all-star game activities, and authorities say police officers tried to break up the fight and arrest those involved, but they were then attacked by some people. several officers suffered minor injuries. >> well, on this president's day holiday, protests are planned across the bay area and all over the country. demonstrators accused president trump of undemocratic and illegal policies and actions like the crackdown at the border. one of the biggest protests will start at 11 a.m. in oakland. it will include a march and rally. >> this wednesday marks 83 years since the franklin delano roosevelt signed an executive order to relocate

japanese-americans into internment camps. people here in the bay area are emphasizing what lessons can still be learned. more than 120,000 people of japanese descent were forced from their homes and sent to internment camps because they were deemed a threat to national security. 70,000 were american citizens. this weekend, advocates gathered in the kabuki theater in san japantown to remember the lasting impacts of that order. >> when they removed the leadership of the community, they broke up families. and so all these families lost, you know, their fathers, basically. and so what we're seeing in detention today is an exact replication of this dynamic. they're breaking families apart. they're separating them. >> now, the impact was enduring financially and emotionally, spanning multiple generations. upon release, many people resisted talking about the injustices they faced. organizers of the event say remembering those injustices is

des moines chicago at two. detroit 17. even down to atlanta 33 and houston 41. they were 39 denver 20. they are looking for brutal wind chills here. by the time we get to wednesday and some of these locations from the rockies all the way to the great lakes, we have a lot of high clouds spilling over. there's also some fog being reported. santa rosa napa airport and livermore livermore quarter mile visibility. napa airport also in there. so that means probably through an american canyon. maybe cordelia, maybe hiddenbrooke around that area 80 down towards marine world and santa rosa. a mile visibility. other than that, most locations are pretty good. stockton, though a mile and three quarters as well. 30s, 40s and 50s on the temps, mainly 40s and 50s. had some 30s, but most of those have disappeared, at least for on, except for the peninsula. sonoma, though, has dipped down to 39. sebastopol at 40. mid 40s. just too many high clouds or low clouds dancing around healdsburg. 41 occidental and 41 as well 30 in reno, 2731 truckee and south lake tahoe and mammoth

every time, because it's just same same number of cars. pretty much very few heading into the city. >> all right. pam? well, it was a very busy weekend, as you know, on bay area freeways because of the nba all star game. but that did not stop sideshows from occurring around the bay bridge around the bay area over the weekend. ktvu tori gaines joining us live here at the bay bridge toll plaza. now with more about this. good morning. >> good morning dave. that's right. sideshows were reported in richmond, san francisco, oakland and even daly city. we're going to take you straight to that video. take a look at your screen. those sideshows seem to kick off in richmond late saturday night into sunday morning shows showing a car with a smashed rear end spinning at high speeds as people hang out the side window. this all taking place at the intersection of carlson and 55th street. next up was the intersection of maritime and grand avenue right here in oakland. video shows major streets blocked by the activity as police responded on ground as

well as in the air. now, by 1:45 a.m. yesterday, a sideshow crowd made its way to daly city, near the intersection of mission and beckler streets. now, 2:35 a.m. on sunday, traffic on the bay bridge came to a halt as the sideshow formed right on the bridge. now, the bridge was shut down for about 15 minutes. just look at all those cars trapped 2:35 a.m, you really got to feel for those folks. video shows police officers making their way around the bridge. now that traffic was moving again after about 15 minutes. now we have reached out to chp and local police for more details on how they're trying to mitigate this sideshow problem that we often see here in the bay area. we'll bring you that live here mornings on two as soon as we have more info. live from the bay bridge toll plaza tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news. >> okay, tori. thank you. time now, 633. san jose police arrested several people after a huge fight broke out over the weekend in downtown san jose. it

happened early sunday morning, abt 1230 near san pedro square, which was busy with valentine's day celebrations as well as the nba all star event. police say a big fight broke out. it became a brawl. police say when they tried to arrest people involved, other people tried to attack them, starting another fight. visitors to san pedro square say they're surprised by all this. >> some of that stuff is more personal. it's not random attacks and stuff like that. it's people got problems with each other, but that's about it. >> now, san jose police say some of the officers involved in the fight have minor injuries, but no one else was hurt. downtown business owners say they're working together to provide security and keep their customers as safe as possible. >> well, a woman was rescued and a man still missing after they fell into the san francisco bay. it happened just before 1030 saturday night near pier 32, just south of the bay bridge.

firefighters managed to pull the woman from the water, but and she was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. firefighters and the coast guard continued to search for the man using boats, thermal imaging and drones. that search was officially suspended at noon yesterday. there's no word yet on how the two ended up in the water. >> our time now 6.34 a 16 year old boy who fell 30ft down into a mine shaft in placer county was rescued by cal fire, and all of it was caught on video. >> rescue ready? rescue is ready. rescuers ready. rescue ready. you ready? >> are you looking at the video that cal fire shared on social media? officials say the teenager was with his buddies exploring the horizontal mine shaft on monday. they tried to repel down the vertical section using household ropes, but the ropes snapped and the boy fell 30ft. firefighters rushed to the scene. they used a complex rope

system and some air monitoring to get to him. he was taken to a hospital for a medical examination. >> today, demonstrators are set to gather outside san francisco's tesla showroom to protest elon musk's involvement in the government. organizers say the peaceful protest on van ness will start at about noon. it is one of many recent protests held to denounce musk's involvement in the white house. the trump admtration has fired 20 immigration judges without explanation. the union that represents federal workers says on friday, 13 of the judges, who had yet to be sworn in and five assistant chief immigration judges were dismissed without notice. two other judges were fired under similar circumstances in the past week. the trump administration has prioritized mass deportations and shrinking the size of the federal government since taking office. >> well, president trump's plan to deport thousands of undocumented immigrants sparked protests around the country. a new group called rights over

borders marched over the weekend. in fact, they marched more than 20 miles to bring attention to immigration reform. the protesters gathered at san mateo city hall yesterday and then marched along el camino real to daly city. the marchers say they want to update the immigration registry. >> my entire community is made up of a ton of immigrants and a ton of family members that have sacrificed so much to be here and, you know, to follow the american dream. so we're so proud today to be their voice, because i know a lot of people are afraid. >> my mom. >> now, the immigration registry was last updated during president ronald reagan's time in office. it allows undocumented immigrants who entered the country before january 1st of 1972 to be deemed eligible for a green card. rights over borders hopes to see that cutoff date adjusted. >> the fda is the latest agency hit by the trump administration's cuts to the federal workforce. probationary employees who review the safety

of food ingredients, medical devices and tobacco products were fired on saturday. the total number of employees affected is not clear, but as many as 5200 probationary employees were expected to be cut across. the entire department of health and human services. the trump administration asking the u.s. supreme court to allow it to fire the head of the federal agency that protects whistleblowers. a court blocked the firing of hampton dellinger, who leads the office of special counsel. dellinger has argued that the law only allows him to be dismissed over problems with his job performance, and that was not cited in his dismissal email earlier this month. >> our time now. 638 well, the trump administration plans to change k through 12 schools all over the country, but the experts say it's still too soon to know if this will affect california's schools. the president, trump says he wants to dismantle the department of education, legalized school vouchers so parents can send their children to private and

impacting the price of beef. the number of cows in the u.s. has dropped to its lowest level in 70 years. the department of agriculture reports a 2% decrease in january compared to last year. some say weather conditions across the country are to blame. >> production starts with grasses and pastures and out on the range. and when it when we have a drought, there's no grass. and so we end up with fewer cows. >> economists say demand for beef has not dropped even as prices rise. wine lovers on the budget can benefit from bay area vineyards running special promotions over the next month. several wineries across sonoma county are holding $15 wine tastings from february 15th to march 15th. the chronicle reports the popularity of wine tastings caused fees to shoot up by nearly 350% since 2012, but now the number of visitors has started to drop, so the local wineries hope these discounts

year there's been a lunar new parade through oakland's chinatown. organizers say it was challenging putting on the parade this year because of the budget cuts in oakland, but hyundai stepped in as a sponsor to pay all the costs. the oakland chinatown improvement council hopes this year's festivities are just as successful as last september's night market, where thousands of people showed up and the vendors there sold out. >> we have restaurant owners, we have small mom and pops. we have grocery people actually come to oakland chinatown. we're a hub from people all over the bay area. oakland chinatown is a living, breathing community. >> more than 40 organizations are taking part, with about 600 people set to be marching in the parade on top of the live performances, including lion dancers and drummers. there's also an important car show this year, the festival and parade set for this saturday. it will start and end at wilma chan

park, and again, hyundai will be the major sponsor. the san francisco rec and parks department unveiled a new basketball court mural this weekend. take a look. it's at a playground in hill. this is that new burst of blue installed at jackson playground. it's a temporary mural. it will be up until 2027, when construction is due to begin on a full scale park renovation. the artist victor solomon says that mural is inspired by the colors of san francisco bay. the courtside foundation made a $50,000 donation to pay for that beautiful mural. >> all right. on this holiday, we are checking traffic for you. and it has been very light all morning long there at the bay bridge toll plaza. i would imagine that is going to stay that way. >> yeah, i figured that. look at the golden gate bridge. so far, it's been pretty quiet out there. the golden gate bridge still is quiet and the sky just starting to wake up as well.

released this year. well, the california highway patrol wants to bring more women to the highway patrol, the chp academy in west sacramento held a recruiting event. more than 100 women signed up for this event. the chp says right now, only 6% of its force are women. one person interested in applying says she's ready to break those barriers and show the world that women are more than ready to step up. >> i have an 11 year old daughter that i want to show that no matter what obstacles come or what type of profession, it seems like a woman shouldn't be in, it is definitely possible. >> now, to join the chp academy you have to be between the ages of 21 and 35 and be able to pass the physical agility test. the starting pay is more than $120,000 a year for new officers. those officers also get to retire at the age of 50 with full medical benefits for

life. time now 657. one year after a new california law to protect children during child custody battles took effect, the people who worked to pass it are being honored. piqué's law is meant to protect children from abusive parents during custody cases. it requires judges to be trained onchild abuse. it also s protections for the victims. piqué's law was named after ahmad ahmad andressian junior. he was killed by his father in 2017 at just five years old. the child's mother joined the advocates to honor those who fought for this law. >> i have very mixed emotions. the past few days have been very emotional. i am the proudest mama that works on this planet, that walks on this planet. but i also carry that level of sadness of knowing that my son's death
