camera, a shocking end to this terrifying ordeal. a hollywood producer convicted of murdering a model and her friend. but his codefendant leaves the jury deadlocked. now, could david brian pierce testify against his friend to get a better deal? suzanne simpson, ashley elkins and mom to bart. three missing moms. one common denominator the men closest to them are all charged with killing them, but without a body. can prosecutors prove there was a crime? thanks for joining us. when candy price got into an argument with her ex boyfriend, she had no idea it would escalate into a police chase that would leave her and her two young children in a fight for their lives. when tony kelly and candy price first met, things seemed promising. tony appeared to be a great catch. he owned a cleaning service business and candy liked him. so did her family. >> they were very, very excited to meet him. you know, he was a
1:32 pm
hard worker and he had a good job. and they liked him not just because of what he did, but just because he chose me, you know? and that was a big thing. >> not a lot of conversion. he was just real quiet. there was a happy couple. >> they fell in love and had three kids together. things were working. but as we all know, things can change. >> i did not go to no hotel. let me see the statement. let me see the statement. >> so i never suspected anything wrong in the beginning. it wasn't until later on where things started changing and i started noticing things were wrong. >> here they are arguing about a hotel charge on his credit card. candy suspected tony was cheating. >> at the quality inn oh 722. yes. this was on my statement. that's where you went? no, that's not where i went. but that's what's on my paper. but did you go there? no, i did not. and i will find out. and you will know as soon as i do. >> candy says after their third child was born, tony started
1:33 pm
smoking a lot of marijuana and spending more time outside the house fishing. he said at night, her gut told her something was way off. >> a little everything, a little lying, a little ignoring, a little cheating, a little being somewhere you're not supposed to be. probably that always was in the back of my mind. you don't have to go fishing way late at night, you know? i mean, that's just ridiculous. like, who does that? can't even see. fights led to breakups. and family members tried to keep the two apart, but they would always get back together. then seven years ago, they finally called it quits for good. sharing co-parenting duties. which is where the problem started. late 1st may night, candy left their one and three year old children with tony. when she returned to pick them up, she was not happy. >> their pampers were filled up, both of them, and i'm like, what the heck? you know, like, why are they dirty like this? and i'm fussing at him and i'm like, these kids are dirty. this is unacceptable. and so he ends up beating me up because i said
1:34 pm
that. >> and with that, an argument turns chaotic. a stranger witnessing the whole thing. >> and this guy sees that i'm distraught right now. and he was like, you know, is everything all right? and i'm like, no, everything's not all right. you know, i'm explaining to him what's going on and everything. and he said, i'm calling the police. >> by the time police arrived, the couple is gone. tony has taken candy and the kids to a storage facility where he keeps his rv. he forces them inside, and as he drives away, a panicked candy lies and tells him she's pregnant with his child. what happens next shocks her. >> i had no idea he was this angry. like he pulls out a gun and he shot at me. but for some reason, like, i turned like, no, no, don't shoot me. and then it just grazed my back. >> tony threatens to kill candy, then himself. they struggle over his gun. now he's infuriated. all the while, their babies are watching the drama unfold.
1:35 pm
>> this is real. like this is. this is something. something's about to happen. you know, he's going to just kill me right here or whatever. but he ended up pulling out these zip ties, and he ties me up. and then he gets this tape out, this duct tape, and he tapes up my face. >> tony jumps behind the wheel and speeds away. candy, desperately trying to attract attention. >> i'm throwing things out the window, you know, trying to get the people attention to call the cops, you know? so we get pulled over and they're not. they're not doing anything. >> she's got to do something. when tony slows down to yield to another car. candy manages to escape the rv, running into an apartment complex where a stranger offers to help her. >> but then tony was. he caught up with me and he pulls the gun out and he was like, you want to lose your life? he's talking straight to that man. he's like, no, i don't, you know, i thought i thought it was my daughter. >> as tony drags candy back to the rv, he shoots her in the leg right in front of the witness. back in the vehicle, she asks tony for a favor.
1:36 pm
>> i said, i need to make a call to my mom before you kill me. >> he hands her phone back, but instead of calling her mother, candy remembers a new story she once saw saying, you could text nine 1-1 it works. >> and i told him as much as i could, as much detail of what was going on in the rv, and i think they asked, like, what do you see? >> still texting with nine 1-1 candy provides as much information as she can, adding three dramatic words please kill him. within minutes, she sees police lights. so does tony. >> and he was like, did you call the police? and i'm like, no, baby, i didn't call the police. i swear to god, i did not call the police because i didn't. i don't know why they're here. i set the phone down, but i didn't have no plans to come back. i knew i was going to try to get out that window again. >> the entire terrifying ride captured by police dashcam video as they trailed the speeding rv. >> before i left, i kissed the boys and i prayed so hard i'm
1:37 pm
like, i'm not ready to go yet. i'm not. this cannot be the last time i see them. >> now candy has to make a split decision. should she risk her life by jumping out of the moving rv or stay and risk being murdered? when we come back, candy's boys are still in the speeding rv with their father, and things are a aut to go from bad to worse. >> slow down. >> cut. >> i get it. slow motion, slow down. geographic atrophy. but we don't need gimmicks. stick to the facts, g.r. advanced form of dry amd can irreversibly damage your vision. but ciuffo is an fda approved ai injection that gives you the power to slow g.r. ciuffo theory was proven to slow ga lesion growth over two years, with increasing effect over

we're back with the kidnaping of candy price and her one and three year old suns. they've been abducted by her ex-boyfriend. the boy's father, tony kelly. and tony is barreling down a texas highway at 90 miles an hour. when candy makes a desperate decision to try to escape and cops have their own decisions to make. >> my emotions were very frantic. >> frantic for her life and for her children, candy makes the terrifying decision to jump out of the racing rv. >> we're burkleo aew meisinger driedger. >> i made it out of there. i made it out. it's scary. like, that was the scariest thing i've ever experienced in my whole life. >> but this drama is far from over. with the chase underway for over an hour, police have no other way to stop the careening rv. they throw out disabling
1:42 pm
spike strips. but tony kelly keeps driving on broken rims. his son's in the vehicle. then at 4 a.m, he makes a bizarre phone call to our dallas affiliate, kdfw fox four news, admitting what he did to candy. >> i told her once that i shot her twice, once in one leg, one in the other leg, one in the back. >> the first text messages for help started just after 230 thursday morning saying, what's your address? the victim we now know to be 33 year old candace price, responded 30 westbound in an rv. his name is tony kelly. >> finally, the rv comes to a stop in arlington, texas. the tires begin to spark, then flame. >> it's on fire in the engine compartment, so we were getting kind of nervous because the kids were still in there. and deputy hampton, he got on the p.a. system. and suddenly the door opens up and you see a toddler
1:43 pm
pretty much just get dropped out. >> without hesitation, caddo mills officer alfonso olivo, a father of six, springs into action. >> come here, come here, kids. come here. 41. 20. we got the kids vehicles on fire. subject's still in the vehicle. >> i guess you can say all training went out the out the window, and just the parent instinct in me took over, and i rushed up there, grabbed both children, and made my way to the closest guardrail to get back behind the vehicles for cover. >> by now, the rv is a raging inferno with tony kelly still inside as police tend to the kids. a single gunshot rings out. you can hear officer olivas reaction on police body cam. >> that was a shot. you hear? yeah. no. the shot.
1:44 pm
>> meanwhile, 60 miles away, after being shot three times, jumping out of the rv at 90 miles an hour, being left for dead and hitting the pavement face first, it is almost impossible to believe candy is alive with severe facial injuries, a shattered jaw and two fractured hips. the hospital places her on a ventilator. her big sister, janice king, will never forget that first visit. >> i saw candy and she was hooked up to all kind of, you know, life support. half her face was was kind of like it, like it, like it was just gone. i could see, like the skin, almost like, you know, fell backwards. and they had to just push the chair up under me because, you know, they was just like, you know, i just lost my breath. i couldn't i was like, you know, just so devastating to, you know, to see something like that. >> once candy wakes up, she speaks with cdf, describing the moment tony shot her for the third time as she jumped out of the rv window. >> i held on for a little bit,
1:45 pm
kind of like dragged my feet across the pavement and i don't know if he shot me out when i'm hanging out the window. somehow i got another i got a bullet hole in my back. i just don't remember. i don't remember too well, but. god had his hands on me tonight. because we were going so fast. and i just let go. i have no intentions to die now. >> healed, at least physically. she says her biggest mistake was trying to go after tony for child support. >> i think that a lot of people don't realize, like for men and women, when you're fighting over kids and stuff, it can it can get deadly. it really can. >> if candy hadn't seen that news story about texting 911, this story might have had a very different ending. >> she probably wouldn't be here today if it hadn't been her. take the 911. so i'm just grateful that she did that. >> i'm doing. i'm doing all right. i keep my heart guarded.

challenge. i was so grateful to discover visiting angels moms. visiting angel helps her shower and dress, and she keeps an eye on mom's alzheimer's. and our care manager gives me regular updates. best of all, mom has a trusted companion who cares about her. >> visiting angels america's choice in-home care. >> take a pea sized amount. apply it like a lotion. pits, underboob. thigh folds. butt cracks. feet. this water based cream. i'm telling you, it's invisible on the skin. it works like a dream. why didn't someone think of this sooner? >> they are high profile murder cases that have captured the nation's attention. one centers on two friends who were enjoying a girls night out when they met a hollywood producer, and they ended up dead. well, we will also dig into the cases of three moms who went missing, and the
1:51 pm
men in their lives have been charged with murder. and in each of these cases, detectives never found their bodies. here with me now, to break things down are trial attorney mercedes colwin and neema rahmani, former federal prosecutor and president of the west coast trial lawyers. it's wonderful to have you both with us. so let's start now with the case of david pierce. he's convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting two women and leaving their bodies at separate hospitals, claiming he and his roommate found them on the side of the road. in this case, pierce had made a statement about dead girls can't talk, but in this case, they really could, especially because of the autopsy and toxicology reports. wasn't it really damning when he was on the stand and explained how he didn't call 911? >> it absolutely was. when a criminal defendant testifies, the entire case comes down to his or her testimony. and this is someone who continue to lie.
1:52 pm
and with respect to every one of those women he sexually assaulted. now, sometimes sexual assault cases can be challenging, can be a he said, she said type situation. but when you have victim after victim telling the same story of physical sexual violence and being drugged by this individual, that's very hard for a jury to overcome. and it was all the lies. >> mercedes, i think this doesn't necessarily touch on the law, but it touches on morality and where we are that i feel the sense, you know, these women were were treated so inhumanely like trash. and i've seen, especially from federal prosecutors, a real move to start to take the victims of these types of sexual assaults much more seriously. >> overall, there is absolutely a movement to show that if individuals feel that they have been victimized, they are taking them seriously. they have a voice. they don't have to be silenced. this speaks volumes around the country where it says, if you are accused of this, it's going to be taken very seriously. >> the other person charged in this case, brant osborne, that the jury deadlocked and it ended
1:53 pm
in a mistrial. obviously, the families of the victims want justice here. so do you go for a retrial? what do you do? >> i mean, in terms of what osborne could face in the future, he could be again facing those allegations, and maybe there will be a plea deal. >> now, let's turn to the cases of missing moms suzanne simpson, ashley elkins and mamta bhatt. all three of them are presumed dead, but their remains have yet to be found. all of their stories covered here at true crime news. suzanne simpson, a mother of four, disappeared last october in san antonio. her body never found despite a massive search to find her. shortly after she was last seen, her husband, brad simpson, was charged with her murder. which raises the question how do you prosecute a murder case without a body? >> as prosecutors, we always say, today's domestic violence case is tomorrow's murder. and that's what we're seeing here. so first, you have this history of violence, right? that's
1:54 pm
certainly circumstantial evidence that does come into every case. but you have more than that. you have evidence that these alleged perpetrators, they tried to dismember and dispose of the body, doesn't matter whether it's at a landfill or a lake. there's plenty of evidence there. and this really goes to show how technology has changed the game in these prosecutions. really, law enforcement and prosecutors have an advantage. >> like in the cases of ashley elkins, a michigan mother of two boys last seen january 2nd. her ex-boyfriend, deandre baker, is now charged with her murder. and montoyo adbert, a young mother who disappeared last july from virginia. her husband, robert, is facing charges of murder and physically defiling a body. do you think, though the evidence in at least two of these cases in the ashley elkins case and in montembeault, police say that they found evidence of pools of blood, which would indicate that someone would not have survived whatever that injury is. in ashley's case, investigators searched her ex's home and found
1:55 pm
a bloody crime scene with her dna. >> all of those things come into play and it will be done so effectively by prosecutors to really go through all of those types of circumstances and show before the jury. >> mamta's husband opened the door to investigators. while holding their infant daughter, they found a crime scene inside that prosecutors have called unsurvivable. >> they'll thread that needle so effortlessly when you're talking about someone whose reaction about their missing loved one is incongruent with how they should be when confronted with the missing loved one. where the tears? where's the concern? where? why are you suddenly putting this fabrication in the path of the law enforcement that are trying to investigate where your loved one is? when you fabricate facts? what will happen is they will be led astray and the investigation is led astray and their loved one is not found. >> neima mercedes, thank you so
1:56 pm
much for your insight today. >> thanks for having us. >> thank you so much. >> we'll be right back. >> if you have wet amd you never want to lose sight of the things you love. >> we get it. >> some things should stand the test of time. long lasting ilia hd could significantly improve your vision. more people on ilia hd had no fluid in the retina compared to those on ilia at four months. ilia hd is the only wet amd therapy that helped. eight out of ten people go up to four months between injections. after three initial monthly treatments, if you have an eye infection, eye pain, or redness or allergies to ilia hd, don't use eye injections like ilia hd. may cause eye infections, separation of the retina, or rare but severe swelling of blood vessels in the eye. an increase in eye pressure has been seen. there is an uncommon risk of heart attack or stroke associated with blood clots. the most common side effects were blurred vision, cataract, corneal injury, and eye floaters. and there's still so
