>> from ktvu, fox two news. this is mornings on two. >> well, good morning to you and thank you for joining us. welcome to mornings on two. i'm dave clark. >> good morning i'm pam cook. it's thursday february 20th. >> it's friday eve. >> it's friday eve. so as we look get closer to the weekend, let's check in with steve paulson for our forecast. >> all right. thank you guys. we're on the drier side now. watch out for fog. there's some out there for sure. there's not much of a breeze so there's some pockets of fog. but after we get going here, it will be a sunny day. and warmer south side of mount tamalpais. picked up the most rain that i saw. 16/100 mount diablo, calistoga and la honda. all tenths of an inch or a little higher might be our last february. rain is the way it's looking here. and by that i mean for all 40s 50s on the temps could be a few 30s. i know there's some in lake county, but the fog is kind of the story here around hayward. watch out concord. it seems to be popping up, not widespread, but i think we'll see a little bit more, including half moon bay reporting some. but you can let the sun shine in today, that's

for sure. clear. cold morning. 30s. 40s. patchy fog. sunny for all. looks nice. temperatures. you want to get out? 60 with santa rosa pushing upper 60s. all right, let's hope you can go where you want to go on the commute. tell us that story, mister sal castaneda. >> why thank you, steve. i have one less egg to fry, but i'm okay. i'm all right. i'm all right. let's go out and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. as you drive up to the toll plaza, you can see traffic is moving along very well. our triple a traffic camera showing us the commute. and by the way, no problems on the actual bridge. and see if i can bring the san mateo bridge up here. so sometimes i have a little trouble with these cameras, but the san mateo bridge looks pretty good. in fact, here it is. there it is. that san mateo bridge looks great heading out to the peninsula with no major issues. it's 501. let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. thank you. well, the trump administration plans to get rid of the federal agency that operates the presidio in san francisco. president trump

signed an executive order last night that considers the presidio trust a, quote, unnecessary governmental entity. the managers now have two weeks to submit a report confirming it is eliminated. congress established the presidio trust back in 1996. it works with the national park service to maintain the 1500 acre park, designated as a national historic landmark. >> two bay area school districts voted to close schools in santa rosa. school officials have decided to close three elementary schools to help offset a multi-million dollar deficit. brooke hill and albert elementary will close by this june, and steel lane elementary will close by june of next year. last night, the board failed to decide which middle schools and high schools it plans to close. some board members said that they need more information to make that decision. administrators warned delaying that vote could lead to more confusion and staff layoff notifications. >> beyond frustrating that we're going to send all these families

home, this community home, without an answer when we need to decide as leaders of how do we want to lead? >> i would like to lead with the data that appears to show more certainty and increased enrollment. and i don't have that data. >> the school district is facing a $20 million deficit. the board agreed to meet again to decide on the middle and high school closures, but have yet to announce when that meeting will take place. in vallejo, the board of education voted to close mare island health and fitness academy and loma vista environmental science academy by the end of the school year. the board also approved relocating vallejo charter school to the mare island campus starting next academic year, and voted for a $7.4 million reduction in staffing. this comes as the district reports a projected $36 million deficit over the next two years, and declining enrollment. >> our time now 503. money for head start was misused by the santa clara county office of

education. according to a new federal audit, a statement was released by the office saying a whistleblower complaint revealed that more than $135,000 was misappropriated and was going to a staff member who was not part of the head start program and was paying for their credit card expenses. also, federal auditors accused former administrators of rejecting calls for oversight by the board of education. the former superintendent, mary ann dewan, was fired back in october. >> a jury in santa cruz decided to keep convicted killer adrian gonzalez in prison for at least another two years. gonzalez, who was 15 at the time, was convicted of sexually assaulting and killing his eight-year-old neighbor maddie middleton in 2015. he was eligible to be released from custody when he turned 25 under a state senate bill. however, prosecutors argued that he is still a danger to the community. he can now ask to be released on parole every

two years. >> my heart goes out to maddie's mom, laura, that in two years this just took seven months of her life. the last seven months have been dedicated to this hearing, and to think that she would have to face that again every two years. >> the santa cruz community and neighbors of the middleton's are now pushing for changes to the state bill. if a crime is as violent as this one. time is now. 505 in the case involving the cult like group called the ends, one of the suspects, maximilian snyder, is due in court tomorrow. two other defendants, alexander letham and rory dowd, appeared yesterday in a vallejo zoom hearing. they're accused of trying to kill their landlord in vallejo back in 2022, in an attack that left the victim blind in one eye. that landlord was later killed last month in a separate attack. investigators say the group is made up of computer scientists who share views about anarchy,

and they're linked to at least six murders across the country. >> three suspects are charged with kidnaping, accused of taking an elderly man from a nevada nursing facility. police say the suspects took 60 year old dean birx out of a novato health care center in a wheelchair. marin county sheriff's deputies caught the suspects on highway 101 in sausalito. birx was found and taken to the hospital. birx is under a conservatorship where a judge appointed someone to manage his affairs. authorities say the victim was particularly vulnerable because of his condition, which included cognitive disabilities. >> the fact that a conservatorship was in place tends to lead most people to understand what the patient's state was. >> all three suspects have been charged with by prosecutors with felony burglary, kidnaping, conspiracy, and false imprisonment of an elder or dependent adult. >> time is 506, and the emergency proclamation was issued by the napa county board

of supervisors to help the county recover after heavy rainfall. that storm earlier this month caused flooding landslides. it knocked down trees and damaged roads and bridges. the board set aside $9.5 million for cleanup. operations in. the proclamation will help the county be reimbursed by state and federal governments for some of those costs. >> well, we had some light rain yesterday. a system i think kind of overachieved, especially south, not north. that was in line with what we thought, but everyone was around a 0.04 to 0.09. including these. lake chabot picked up .09. mount veeder, dylan beach .08, tilden park and ben lomond .07 santa rosa in town .06 vallejo .05. in the city picked up a .04. we are done though with that system. and let me take off this right there. there you go. we'll get rid of that. there's nothing there except fog. we do have some areas of fog out there, but everything is now pointing towards warmer temps. there will be a lot of clouds on the way as we head into the weekend, but

temps will bump up upper 60s to near 70. that's for sure. some areas of fog out there. livermore a mile and a half. concord three. so here we go again. hayward reporting some santa rosa around there. and also on interstate 80 there's some half moon bay even says some fog. and if you're heading south on watsonville, a half mile visibility in santa clara valley. so watch out. maybe gilroy, hollister as well. 40 on most of the temps to 50. there's a lot of moisture in the air. some 30s though. middletown, kelseyville, upper lake, all in there. fairfax is 40 degrees. point reyes station 39. yet point reyes is 50. sonoma at 41 degrees and 40s for most here. just the amount of moisture and some fog. probably keeping us mainly in the 40s here. 23 is popular, truckee is in there and south lake tahoe had a little bit of snow. minden's also at 23 degrees and everything says sunshine and warmer temps after we get past this. any of this fog looks good today. tomorrow the rain line is going to stay north. really heavy. if you head up towards del norte, humboldt county there will still be rain i think in lake county,

plans to get rid of the federal agency that operates the presidio in san francisco. president trump last night signed the executive order. he considers the presidio trust a, quote, unnecessary governmental entity. the managers have two weeks to submit a report confirming it has been eliminated. a group in novato pioneering the study of aging fears the trump administration may cut its funding. the buck institute tells the marin independent journal it has about 50 active government grants totaling almost $30 million. the institute has 230 employees. the ceo says the survival of that institute is in question. and

sutter health announced it plans to build a new medical campus in emeryville. it's a $1 billion campus. it will be on 12 acres at horton and 53rd street. it will have at least 200 beds. emergency services and icu and private patient rooms. the new medical center will replace the acute care services at the alta bates ashby campus in berkeley. >> children as young as two years old have been left without representation in immigration court. after the trump administration suspended a program that helps kids who enter the country alone. now, late tuesday, the administration ordered the acacia center for justice to stop work on its $200 million contract. acacia is a network of 85 organizations across the country that work with children under the age of 18. it represents about 26,000 children and offers legal advice to an additional 100,000. the interior department did not give any reason for the change, but

told the organization that it is for, quote, causes outside their control. >> time is now 513. president trump says the federal government should take over and govern the district of columbia. >> i think that we should run it strong, run it with law and order, make it absolutely flawlessly beautiful. and i think we should take over washington, d.c, make it safe. >> he was on air force one last night, and president trump told reporters that washington, d.c. is plagued by crime, homelessness and graffiti, and something has to be done. congress already has the authority to approve or deny all d.c. laws, but some republicans fought to expand that. washington, d.c. is currently governed like any other city by a mayor. >> the irs is the latest target of federal layoffs, as the trump administration dramatically alters the scope of government. sources say the internal revenue service will lay off thousands of workers right in the middle of tax season. according to the

new york times, approximately 6000 people at the irs will lose their jobs, similar to layoffs at other agencies. the new probationary hires are among those expected to be terminated. >> our time now 514 dividend checks from doge may eventually make their way to taxpayers. president trump endorsed the idea of sharing some of the federal savings from the spending cuts, but nothing certain, as the white house still faces several legal challenges. many government agencies are trying to cut expenses, including the defense department, which is trying to cut 8% of its huge budget. >> i love it. a 20% dividend, so to speak, for the money that we're saving by going after the waste, fraud and abuse and all the other things that are happening, i think it's a great idea. >> now, president trump's bid to end birthright citizenship also faced another legal setback. this time, a federal appeals court refused to reinstate the trump administration's order

that sets the stage for a possible showdown at the u.s. supreme court. >> federal workers were among those protesting the cuts by elon musk's doge right outside a tesla newsroom last night. a showroom that is last night in san francisco. >> layoffs, cutbacks there. the worst. >> time to put the people first. >> a large crowd gathered on van ness last night. they say they want to send the message that these federal layoffs are illegal, and part of a deliberate strategy to dismantle public services and replace them with for profit corporate control. >> this is not the time to be obedient, not like those spineless folks in congress that's being obedient to president musk. [applause] >> now, organizers of the protest say the support from labor unions will be critical to pressure the government to protect federal workers. >> our time is now 516 will. despite the widespread protest, elon musk is defending the cuts, saying it will have a positive impact on the economy. and he talked about it in part two of an interview with sean hannity alongside president trump that was broadcast last night. >> if we address the massive deficit spending, the sort of the waste in the government, then then we can actually address inflation. if you cut back on the deficit, you actually have an amazing situation for people because you get you get rid of inflation and you drop the interest rates. and that means people's mortgage payments go down, the credit card payments go down, the card payments go down, the student loans go down. everything for their life becomes more affordable. >> now, doge is claiming its cost cutting has saved the

american people. $55 billion in federal funds. but so far, it's only publicly disclosing cuts that amount to less than $9 billion. now, as we continue to monitor the developments coming from the white house, you can keep track by downloading the fox local app. it's available for free on your phone and smart tv. time is 517. the trump administration is boycotting a meeting of g20 foreign ministers this week in south africa. the members of the trump cabinet, including secretary of state marco rubio, say they won't be attending after president trump signed an executive order cutting aid and assistance to the government of south africa. president trump says white south africans who are descendants of mainly dutch colonial settlers, are being targeted by a new law that lets the government seize private land. >> the state water board released a plan to distribute hundreds of millions of dollars, originally set aside to expand

los vaqueros reservoir in contra costa county. now, the $1.5 billion project fell apart nearly six months ago because of rising costs, environmental restrictions and disagreements among water agencies. the board of the california water commission is reportedly leaning toward dividing leftover funds and giving them to six other water storage projects that could include pacheco reservoir, proposed for the hills in southern santa clara county north of highway 152. >> all right, pam, let's talk about weather with steve paulson. i came through a lot of fog this morning. >> i had some myself. yeah, clark, not too much, but there was there a little bit? yes. we'll take a look at the rainfall. the south side of mount tamil pies had the most. somebody tweeted me and said, you know, we went for a hike and rained the whole way. and i said, well, marin county north was the line for the heaviest rain. and it did, and it wasn't that much, but it was a steady light rain drizzle. 16 100 mount diablo at 13 calistoga, 12 100 and la honda picked up a 10th of

an inch fog, though hayward and livermore. quarter of a mile half mile visibility out to concord as well. i know there's some on interstate 80 kind of dancing around pinole, el sobrante. so, san pablo, keep your eyes out there if that's your commute. now, again, a lot of it was just off to the side, but not on the road. but there's some there dancing around watsonville also in there. i would think gilroy and hollister might deal with some down towards the monterey peninsula, 4050 on the temps, a couple of 30s. most of those are to the north. you can see, though, 49, berkeley 50 and alameda 51 brentwood. so there's a lot of moisture in there. although alamos down to 42, dublin at 41 and pinole at 42 degrees along with orinda. so not not as cold as we've seen, that's for sure. truckee 23, south lake tahoe 23. mendon says. hey, we're 23 and reno is at 28 degrees up and over everything goes. so once we get through the morning fog, what little there is, we'll have sunshine for all and some warmer temps. now the rain line is going to stay north. mendocino

523. a mountain lion in southern california was tranquilized and captured after it led animal control officers on a wild chase in camarillo. the mountain lion ran across rooftops yesterday, jumped over fences, and crossed several streets. the department of fish and wildlife tracked down the mountain lion. the officers were able to hit it with a tranquilizer gun, but that didn't stop it at first. >> so they once they shot it, you don't hear the shot, but once they shot it, they said, oh, it took off. it took off and it went. it went in the front yard, across the street to another yard, jumped the fence to that yard, went into the back

yard. i decided to go around the block. and when i did that, i was actually the only one who was able to capture it, jump over the fence and down the sidewalk. >> yikes. now eventually it did not was knocked out with a tranquilizer and they carried it away in that truck. the animal will likely be allowed to be back into the wild later. well, a massive bear made a home beneath a home in pasadena that was undamaged in the eden fire. neighbors have nicknamed him yogi. he settled down in the basement of the residence. home at home was one of the more than 10,000 buildings damaged or destroyed by the eden fire last month. the homeowner says as he recovers from the fire, he needs electrical and gas work performed on the house. work that requires contractors to get in there in that crawl space. >> then, when they put the phone in the right in the holy scream, you know. >> they can't get access because of the bear. it would make sense that during the fire, he came

back here to find refuge. >> well, especially because his habitat behind your house. >> it's gone. >> the california department of fish and wildlife has already had to remove a different bear from another home that burned in that fire. it plans to send a team to that house today to check out the situation. time now. 525 and underweight. baby seal is safe and recovering at an aquarium after being rescued off the streets of connecticut. the police say that seal was seen about 1000ft from the nearest river on sunday. now, the seal is estimated to be about 5 to 6 weeks old. the aquarium staff said they saw the seal at least twice last week. they brought the seal back to the beach, but it found its way back to the city. your time is now. 526 president trump says ukrainian president zelensky is a, quote, dictator. we'll tell you how the ukrainian president responded and the pushback from some lawmakers on capitol hill. on

though, that things begin to change. so if you're lingering, you may want to get out there before things start to change. 531 let's go back to the desk. >> sal. topping our news this morning, president trump has issued an executive order to eliminate one of san francisco's most iconic landmarks. the presidio trust is a federal agency charged with running and protecting the historic san francisco park. ktvu south bay reporter jesse gary live in the city. one of my favorite spots. jesse, tell us about this. >> pamela, good morning to you. yeah, the presidio and the presidio trust. you know, the presidio was first a spanish fort, then a us army base, now a beautiful park, and now a target from the current president of the united states who says he wants to get rid of the presidio trust, which kind of runs the park. let's go ahead. take a look at our video. this is a 1500 acre park here in san francisco. that was the trust was first established back in 1996 when republicans controlled

congress. it was done by speaker pelosi. and that's what established the trust. it has a seven member board that oversees it. six are appointed by the president, one is appointed by the secretary of the interior. now, president trump signed an executive order last night as part of his efforts to slim and trim the us federal government. the order commencing the reduction of the federal bureaucracy says it's going to get rid of things that are unnecessary. and he is named the presidio trust as that the trust oversees the park. and so the president, feeling that it is no longer needed, the directors of the presidio trust have two weeks to send a letter back to washington saying they have received the order and understand it, and confirming that the presidio trust will be dissolved. state senator scott wiener says the president is on dubious legal ground. we'll talk more about that and hear what experts have to say about this

2022. president zelensky said president trump is being influenced by russian disinformation. >> the. unfortunately, president trump, with great respect for him as a leader of the people, which we respect very much, the american people who constantly support us, unfortunately lives in this disinformation space. >> now, the words of president trump for zelensky were condemned by democrats and some republicans in the u.s. senate, where defending ukraine against russian aggression has had bipartisan support. >> it's outrageous. it's not humorous that the president does these sorts of things, goes off on wild tangents and says things that are clearly false. >> i disagree, i think vladimir putin started the war. i also believe. through bitter experience that vladimir putin is a gangster. he makes jeffrey dahmer look like mother teresa. >> now, u.s. officials conducted talks with russian diplomats

yesterday in saudi arabia. ukrainian and european officials were not invited, even though president zelensky is adamant that ukraine has to be involved in those negotiations. president trump has indicated he could meet with vladimir putin by the end of the month. >> a nevada group pioneering the study of aging fears the trump administration will slash its funding. the buck institute opened in 1999 as the world's first biomedical research institution devoted solely to aging. it currently employs 230 people. the buck institute tells the marin independent journal that it has about 50 active government grants, totaling almost $30 million. however, the white house wants to cap indirect funding from the national institutes of health at 15%. if that happens, the buck institute ceo says that would cost them 8 to $10 million a year. >> our time is now 536. the month of january was the third straight month that drug overdose deaths increased in san

francisco, according to the medical examiner's office. the medical examiner reported 59 drug overdose deaths last month, up from 49 in december and 40 in november. however, the number of overdose deaths in january of this year is down when you compare it to january of 2024. health leaders say they're working to deal with disparities. almost a third of those overdose deaths are among african americans, who make up only 6% of san francisco's population. >> expanding culturally informed treatment and recovery services such, and focusing on african american men over the age of 50 who are most affected by overdose disparities. >> now, the medical examiner did say, despite rising rates of deadly drug overdoses at the end of 2024, when you look at the entire year, overdose deaths declined more than 20% compared to all of 2023.

>> a kaiser patient is filing a lawsuit claiming he was sexually assaulted during surgery last year in san rafael. now, michael timothy bean says it happened when he went to have a melanoma procedure. the lawsuit charges kaiser, the doctor in charge and medical assistant with negligence and battery. bean says as the surgeon was making the incisions, the medical assistant assaulted him. a little while. i realized, oh, wait a minute, this guy is taking full advantage of me and getting off on rubbing himself on me. >> the plaintiff's attorney says. kaiser had received three complaints from his client detailing the incident, but they never responded with a report or investigation. kaiser did release a statement saying that they do not tolerate any kind of sexual harassment or misconduct within our premises, and they cannot comment on active legal matters. ktvu asked the medical assistant for comment but did not receive a response.

>> we will start in the sierra because something interesting here could happen. could happen. it's close. they had a little bit of snow yesterday, but as far as a percentage of normal now really this has been more about us than snow. but that system last week really pushed the numbers up. the northern sierras 120% of normal for the date. central sierra that includes tahoe is 90 and the southern sierra is now 76%. so a statewide average is 94%. if we get a good march and it finishes it over 100%, that would make back to back to back years of above average snowfall or even greater. and that's the first time that's happened since 2000. so the reservoirs are full. it's all good. we have to focus on the positive sometimes. west healdsburg a 10th of an inch. lake chabot, 0.09, dylan beach, tilden park, ben lomond, santa rosa, vallejo and san francisco between .04 and a 10th of an inch about in line, maybe even slightly overachieving for some here, but i didn't see anybody greater than 16 100. but we are

on two time now. 544 some of the stories we're following for you this morning. the trump administration plans to get rid of the federal agency in charge of operating the presidio. president trump signed the executive order last night, considering it a, quote, unnecessary governmental entity. three elementary schools will close in santa rosa to help offset a multi-million dollar deficit. the board failed to decide which middle schools and high schools it plans to close. board members said they need more information to make that decision, and a meeting on that will be scheduled soon. and in vallejo, two schools will close at the end of the school year. those are mare island health and fitness academy and loma vista environmental science academy.

her. and i just told her i had her. hold that. >> what do you say? you said the woman was safely taken to the hospital. she is expected to make a full recovery. >> the ntsb is investigating the country's third deadly plane crash in less than a month. the crash happened near marana regional airport, just northwest of tucson, arizona. investigators say two people were in each plane. one of the planes landed, the other crashed, killing both people on board. the small regional airport has no air traffic control tower and relies on pilots to communicate their movements over the radio. in canada, crews were out at toronto's pearson international airport, removing debris from the delta airlines plane that crash landed on monday. crews used heavy cranes to remove the plane's fuselage. a wing came off after the plane made a hard landing and rolled over. 20 of the 21 passengers injured have now been released from the

to about the middle of that parking lot. so we're kind of easing in to this thursday morning commute. no problems on that san mateo bridge. 601 let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. sal. thank you. well, in santa rosa, school officials decided to close three elementary schools to help offset a multimillion dollar budget deficit. however, the school district couldn't agree on which high schools and middle schools it would close. ktvu is andre senior in the studio now with details about the decision and what school officials plan to do next. andre. >> well, dave, parents, students and staff were frustrated after the trustees of the santa rosa city schools failed to reach a decision on which middle schools or high school to close. the trustees originally planned to have all this figured out at the end of last night's meeting, but after six hours of discussion, they were only able to agree on the elementary school closures. in a 5 to 1 vote, the trustees decided to close brookhill and albert villa elementary by this june. they also agreed to close

steel lane elementary by june of next year. closing the schools was always part of the plan. the trustees were weighing two options for its other campuses one that would close all middle schools and another that closes three middle schools and one high school. but the trustees could not decide which high school would be on the chopping block. some board members said they need more information to make a decision. administrators warn delaying that vote could lead to more confusion and staff layoff notifications. >> it's beyond frustrating that we're going to send all these families home, this community home, without an answer when we need to decide as leaders of how do we want to lead? >> i would like to lead with the data that appears to show more certainty and increased enrollment. and i don't have that data. >> the trustees decided to adjourn last night's meeting without a decision on the high school and those middle schools. they plan to dig into information about how closures will impact enrollment in the school district.

the 1500 acre park that's designated a national historic landmark. >> the irs is the latest target of federal layoffs, as the trump administration dramatically alters the scope of government. sources say the internal revenue service will lay off thousands of workers as soon as today, and right in the middle of tax season. according to the new york times, approximately 6000 people at the irs will lose their jobs, similar to layoffs at other agencies. the newer probationary hires are expected to be among those terminated for couples and individuals who want to have children but can't. in vitro fertilization treatments can help make it a reality, but steep costs make it difficult. now, president trump's new executive order is looking to change that. each ivf cycle can cost an average of between 12 and $25,000. this week, the president ordered officials to create a list of recommendations within the next 90 days to offer strategies to protect ivf access and reduce out of pocket costs.

a jury in santa cruz decided to keep convicted killer adrian gonzalez in prison for at least two more years. gonzalez, who was 15 years old at the time he was convicted of killing eight year old maddie middleton in 2015. now he spent almost a decade in custody for the murder and sexual assault of a little girl. he could have automatically been released from prison when he turned 25. under state senate bill 1391, however, prosecutors argued he is still a danger to the community. now he can ask to be released on parole every two years. >> my heart goes to maddie's mom, laura, that in two years this just took seven months of her life. the last seven months have been dedicated to this hearing. and to think that she would have to face that again every two years. >> now, the neighbors of maddie middleton and other community

on to the ongoing bird flu outbreak is affecting california's agriculture industry. the virus has led to rising egg prices and has spread to dairy farms and cows, raising additional concerns about food safety. since the start of the current outbreak, nearly 70 human cases of bird flu have been reported in the united states, with more than half of them in california. the usda is now looking to rehire people who are working on the bird flu response, after several positions were unexpectedly terminated by the trump administration over the weekend. a mountain lion was tranquilized and captured after it led animal control officers on a chase in a southern california

>> pamela, good morning again to you yet beautiful. beautiful. look at that. look at it. you can't beat the view. so we were out early this morning. we talked to one presidio trust employee about the news that this agency is in the crosshairs of the president, and it was so unsettling, she abruptly walked off, said she was going back home. i wish i, i wish i could show you, but her face just dropped as i told her that the president wants to eliminate the presidio trust. let's go and take a look at our video. the presidio trust is the agency that cares for the park here in in san francisco. it was first a spanish fort, then a us army base. the base was decommissioned in the 1880s. a few years later, with the help of nancy pelosi and a bipartisan republican controlled congress, the presidio trust was formed last night. president trump signed an executive order eliminating the trust as part of his efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. he calls it unnecessary, costing taxpayers roughly $200 million.

experts say this is part and parcel of the president's plan to increase government efficiency, which could cost people their jobs. >> they could be laid off, or they could be furloughed until they get approvals. and the activities of the of the trust are, are straightened out. it could be anything. i'm looking at it right now as it's a rationalization. they're looking at what this trust is going to do out, what their progress has been and what they expect to accomplish are the dollars worth being spent on it. if not, then yeah, there'll be layoffs. it'll be shut down. >> the head of the trust has two weeks to send a note to washington saying he's received the order and is and is in compliance with it. we're also getting reaction from people such as state senator scott wiener, who says the president's legal position on this could be

to 70 as we head to the weekend. there will still be probably some rain. lake county, mendocino county north, but in my forecast zone, most of it will be not the case. sunny for all. a little breeze picking up which should help reduce some of the moisture. so i think it will just be clear and cold tonight. 60 on the temps and if you like 70 degree temps they're on their way this weekend. >> thank you steve. the state water board released a plan to distribute hundreds of millions of dollars, originally set aside to expand los vaqueros reservoir in contra costa county. the $1.5 billion project fell apart nearly six months ago because of rising costs, environmental restrictions and disagreements among water agencies. the board of the california water commission is reportedly leaning towards dividing the funds and giving the money to six other water storage projects that could include the pacheco reservoir, proposed for the hills in southern santa clara county north of highway 152. >> our time now, 641. we're already seeing higher water levels in some california

reservoirs because of last week's storms across the board. storage capacity looks good. recent measurements from the california data exchange center says folsom lake is at 70% capacity, lake shasta at 78%, lake oroville and the new melones reservoir are in great shape at 84 and 80%, respectively. all of those numbers are well above their historical average for this time of the year, and those levels are expected to go even higher once snow melt comes down to reservoirs in the spring. well, part of the 49ers are up for sale. we'll tell you how much it

to some of the stories we're following for you this morning. the coroner has identified the body of a skier found in the backcountry of south lake tahoe. the family of 46 year-old frederick dross reported him missing on monday. but due to treacherous conditions, searchers did not find his body until yesterday. authorities believe his death was accidental. >> again, here are some of the other stories we're following.

the santa santa rosa school district plans to close three elementary schools to help offset a multimillion dollar budget deficit. the school board also plans to hold more hearings to talk about closing middle schools and high schools. >> nvidia unveiled this morning a new artificial intelligence platform that teaches people how to use american sign language. the santa clara based company is partnering with the american society for deaf children to create a new teaching tool called signs. signs will be released later this year. >> time is now 645 in san francisco. celebrity chef tyler florence has moved his cafe out of san francisco's union square, and it comes less than two years after he signed a three year deal and getting a grant from the city to open two new cafes. now, his departure is raising some questions about the initial deal with tyler, florence and the future of union square. florence opened the locations back in 2023. at the time, he said he wanted to be a part of

possible that it's more theater than substance, but it's a concerning development. >> now the g20 summit is scheduled for this november in south africa, consisting of the european union and 19 countries representing the world's biggest economies. the theme this year is solidarity, equality and sustainability. >> the san francisco 49ers are exploring the possibility of selling a minority stake in the team. now they're considering a sale of up to 10% of the franchise. it's unclear if the team will seek a private equity firm or other investors, such as wealthy individuals or families. reports say the york family, which owns the team, is hoping to value the franchise at about $9 billion. that puts the price at about $900 million for that 10% stake. >> well, now this story is just for pam cook. a man from san francisco is home again after completing one of the toughest athletic competitions in the world. he's 45 year old chris dell. he ran seven marathons in

that. sonoma county lawmaker wants to recognize bigfoot. remember bigfoot? santa rosa assemblyman chris rogers introduced a bill that would designate bigfoot as california's official state cryptid. that's a creature people believe to be real but has not been proven to exist. some people over the years swear they have spotted bigfoot or sasquatch is often called in the redwood forests of northern california. if approved, bigfoot would join other state symbols. by the way, the grizzly bear, california's official animal, the desert tortoise. the state reptile. so bigfoot could be the state cryptid. >> what do you say? >> i, my nephew, very much believed in bigfoot and went searching for him and some of the areas of marin county when he was young and visiting. all right. >> okay. we don't have to search for sal because he's right there. he's watching our commute. how's it look? >> it looks okay. it's beginning to fill in a little bit. for example, at the bay bridge. now, the backup is from the macarthur

maze. so it was a little lighter earlier, but now it's kind of filled in. it's still not terrible. and there have been no problems reported on the bridge. san mateo bridge is also moderately heavy this morning. we still have slow traffic on highway four. steve and i have been mentioning some of the fog there, so you might run into it. it is backed up from leverage all the way out to willow pass at 651. let's talk about today's weather. here's steve. >> and that's what i'm going to start with, sal. we'll start with that here because fog is being reported again. highway four concord with a quarter mile visibility. you see some of that sneaking back in right there. so watch out if you're near concor. buchanan i'm sure you'll clear it pretty fast. other locations have some fog, but that seems to be the thickest that we've seen so far. 39 now san anselmo. i knew we'd get a couple in their 30s for only a few 40s for most, a couple of 50s in there. if napa airport's 52, they must have a breeze or something. there's no way orinda has now dropped to 39 degrees. pinole is

zone two is now 656 new this morning. hamas has handed over the bodies of four hostages to the red cross. these bodies are believed to be those of an 83 year old israeli captive, a 32 year old mother and her two children, one who was four years old. another was only nine months old. israel says investigators will need to conduct forensic tests to confirm exactly who they are. hamas captured all four of the hostages during the october 7th attack on israel in 2023. well, the country of turkey has started exporting almost 15,000 tons of eggs here to the us. as the bird flu outbreak has caused egg prices, as you know, to skyrocket. the shipments began
