questioning. >> we're hearing like, yeah, there was some some jealousy stuff going on. i would like to believe. >> before fleeing the country, getting plastic surgery and trying to escape cops once again. and a mother taking her two year old to daycare is ambushed. >> ambushed and executed for $600. >> police scour the area looking for shante davis's killer. what motive would someone have to kill this maryland mother? thanks for joining us. we begin with new, rarely seen videos that true crime news has obtained videos related to a shocking murder that rocked the cycling world. mo wilson was at the top of her game until her lover's girlfriend plotted to put an end to it once and for all. it was a texas murder trial with shakespearean flair. >> the woman scorned. whether the facts met the narrative or not, it's a great story. >> a love triangle. and at the

center of this case, caitlin armstrong, who's been brought in by austin pd for questioning about the murder of famed gravel cyclist, 25 year old anna maria wilson. >> we'll hear just his side of the story. he's got a very different version of everything that's going on. okay. >> now, true crime news with the new, rarely seen interrogation that helped nab the former yoga instructor for the murder of her boyfriend's lover. >> while collin was talking to us, your name came up, and it sounds like there's a lot of stuff that's going on. and it sounds like, you know, collin's been maybe talking to this girl for a little bit and kind of threw your name in there. >> it's fairly clear caitlin was done dirty by her live in boyfriend collin strickland, a competitive bicycle racer. strickland had been secretly having a torrid affair with anna wilson, the rising star in the

world of gravel racing. an athlete also known as mo. >> the truth of the matter is that caitlin's emotions and her actions were normal and routine and human, but she had to be portrayed as a jealous psycho. >> psycho enough to kill. police say. definitely. >> i would like to leave. i think. >> that's completely your choice. but understand, if you do, then we only have one side of the story to go on. and from what we're hearing from collin, you know, i think it would be very beneficial to get the other side of it and kind of explain a little bit more of kind of what's going on, actually. well, i just. >> i'm uncertain as to even what you mean or what he could have said because i didn't have any idea. exactly what he saw or went out with this girl. >> okay. >> yeah. >> has he been, like, talking to

her on the side? >> i don't actually know. and i would like to leave. >> it all started when collin and caitlin's relationship hit the brakes after three years, and he struck up a romance with mo wilson after the two competed in a bike race. but the competition grew fierce after both women believed collin was theirs. a chance encounter between the women left mo confused and caitlin furious and shaking in anger, telling a police informant that she wanted to kill wilson and that she had either recently purchased a firearm or was going to. then, after learning mo was visiting austin and spending time with collin, caitlin stalked her on a sports app, waited until mo was alone at a friend's apartment, and shot her multiple times with a nine millimeter handgun. >> my friend is staying with me and i just walked in and she's

last night she. she passed away. how did. and she. right now it's an open investigation, but it is being investigated as a homicide. well, thank you. okay. yeah. >> and collin, expressionless over the news or simply in shock. swider. the next day, caitlin armstrong is brought in for questioning. the ex yoga instructor is calm and cooperative until she's confronted with details about her relationship with collin. >> i'm sorry if i have an existing warrant and you don't know what it's about. do i need an attorney here? >> caitlin was facing a warrant for her arrest on a misdemeanor theft of service charge for failing to pay for botox

treatment. but now cops have questions about mo's murder. >> did you hear about what's happened over the past 24 hours? >> collin walked in the house and said one of the women in the cycling community passed away. >> yes, it sounds like there was some some issues between you and this girl. >> okay. i'm not i'm not sure exactly what you mean or what information you like. >> so. sounds like maybe he went out with this girl the other day. and maybe it sounds like from what he's saying, that you were a little upset about it. we're hearing like. yeah, there was some some jealousy stuff going on, like, that doesn't sound very good. and so that's why i really want to get your side of the story. >> still building their physical case, austin pd released caitlin as they continued to investigate. >> she probably went into a panic when she was interviewed by the austin police department. she probably knew they had a lot of information on her. >> then cops get the smoking gun evidence they need to seal their case. literally, the nine

millimeter weapon used to kill mo found in caitlin's home. >> that same day, a municipal court judge issued a warrant for armstrong's arrest for the offense of murder. >> shockingly, by that time, caitlin had fled the country selling her jeep for quick cash and then hiding in a costa rican surf hostel under an assumed name for 43 days. but detectives were on her trail and found her when she was picked up by texas marshals. caitlin looked a little different. >> she cut her hair, also dyed her hair to a darker brown color, and we were also told that she had some type of bandage over her nose area, where she claimed that she had gotten into a surfboard incident. >> and a receipt for rhinoplasty. texas marshals quickly brought her back to austin, where caitlin would literally make one last attempt to escape custody before finally standing trial. shortly after. >> we, the jury, find the defendant, caitlin armstrong,

in maryland, a mother strapping her two year old in her car seat is ambushed from behind. ashanti davis was a second grade teacher, and she had just graduated from college and was simply taking her daughter to daycare before heading to work when tragedy struck. a single mom with a bright future. >> whatever it was that she needed or wanted, she pushed for it. >> and an adorable two year old daughter. >> she was spunky. she was extremely independent, even at two years old. >> but one dark winter morning.

behind. back in the townhouse, steve flinches at the sound of three gunshots outside, followed by three more. steven runs to the window, peering onto a gruesome scene. ashanti is laying on the asphalt in a pool of blood. he charges outside and calls nine 1-1. >> you have to stay strong for me so we can help her out. what is she doing? what? is she not moving? she's not moving. is she breathing? i can't tell if she's bloody all over it. what's going? >> steven doesn't see chloe at all. >> we can do cpr. we can help her out. i'm about to walk you through it. hi. all right. i need you to place one hand on her chest. >> steven keeps up the valiant effort to save his aunt's life until emts arrive and take over. meanwhile, ashanti's family members get worried and rushed to the scene, but when they arrive, it's too late. >> they had a tarp over by the

car, so i knew. >> my house was circled by the yellow and white tape crime scene truck. i just took in the entire scene and kind of broke down in my car. >> cheryl realizes she has to pull herself together for the sake of her two year old niece, chloe. but what she learns next comes as a shock. >> when i asked the police, where's chloe? he response to me was, what baby? >> as cops peer through the vehicle's back window, it's clear chloe is not in her car seat. >> i thought a kidnaping. initially, that's what i thought. a whole lot of things went through my head. >> but the tragic truth soon hits hard. an officer opens the car's back door, and there, lying on the floor is little chloe, shot twice. and like her mother, she's dead. >> the officer who discovered chloe. she couldn't even testify about it without crying. >> but who was responsible for

completely heartbroken. he lost two people that he really, really loved. >> investigators get to work tracking down the monster who committed this heinous double murder. >> investigators did look at a number of people. this was a very thorough investigation. >> they zeroed in on this man, darren boswell johnson. >> they were childhood friends. they met in high school. they were in a relationship in high school, and they remained friends. >> investigators wondered, did that past relationship leave bad blood between ashanti and darren? >> not until as recently, where i would say harassment or harassing phone calls. promises made broken just to get past certain things. >> those certain things darren wanted to get past included an uncomfortable secret nesn inkling that he could be chloe's father, an idea darren didn't want to accept. >> my sister did two home dna

tests and he tampered with both of them. he falsified them. i believe in having someone else take one. or pouring water on one or something of that nature. and that led to the court's dna test. >> two months before she and chloe were murdered, the court ordered paternity tests confirmed. ashanti's instinct darren was indeed chloe's dad, but why would the results of the paternity test alone drive him to murder? ashanti's family suspects the answer is the age old motive money. >> they ordered him to pay child support. at one point, it was a much higher amount. and if i'm not mistaken, i believe my sister said that she didn't want that amount and they lowered it. and then they set the amount at, i believe, 600. >> investigators bring darren in for questioning. he claims that he was home sleeping when ashanti and chloe were gunned down. >> during the interview, darren

denied so many times of any involvement in this case. he had denial after denial after denial. >> darren, look at me now. >> the interview goes on for hours and he never budges from his story. >> at no point did darren ever ask to leave. anytime he needed to use the bathroom, he was taken to the bathroom. anytime he wanted a drink, we got him a drink. we sat down and ate pizza. >> finally, after 20 grueling hours, darren makes a stunning admission. he did go see ashanti that fateful morning. >> when she came out, she saw him noticed and it startled her. and she said, what are you doing here, tillo? >> i wanted to talk about the child support. >> okay? >> the more he talks, the more the cracks open and the truth pours out. at last, darren tells detectives how his frustration over the court ordered child

support payment led him to do the unthinkable. >> how many times did you shoot the baby's mom? how many times did you shoot her? okay. 8-1 blatak. >> darren is charged with first degree murder. but there's still one crucial missing piece to the puzzle. the gun used to commit the murders. >> so myself and detective crews were able to obtain video that showed his vehicle entering the apartment complex. and i showed an individual exiting the driver's side of the vehicle and going to a dumpster and discarding something. we could surmise that that was darren on the video. >> after several grueling days spent rehashing that tragic morning, it didn't take long for a jury's verdict. darren boswell johnson is found guilty.
