break. in the case, a newly discovered biological daughter of fugitive bradford bishop. >> there's even a mole on the same side of the face. we have the same smile. >> could it help lead to this alleged violent killer's capture? >> i don't think he's a hermit up in the mountains somewhere. i think he's blending right in. >> by any standard, bradford bishop was a man of many accomplishments with an ivy league education, two master's degrees, and a desirable career with the u.s. state department. >> brad bishop was a foreign service officer, highly intelligent, knew 5 or 6 languages, traveled around the world. >> bishop's life all seemed normal. a family man in bethesda, maryland, sharing a home with wife annette, his mother, and three small boys ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years old. little did anyone suspect bradford bishop was a time bomb. a man obsessed with

his career and reportedly under treatment for severe depression. it all boiled over the day he was turned down for a much coveted promotion. investigators say bishop snapped flying into a murderous rage aimed straight at his unsuspecting family. >> he purchases a what's called a sledgehammer, but it's not the big two handed kind. it's a small, like 9 pound sledge. the boys were apparently killed in their beds. the crime scene in the house was pretty bad. it was very bloody. you could imagine it would be if somebody had killed five people in the house with that. that mallet. >> police say bishop loaded the bodies into the family car, drove 500 miles south to a remote area in the great smoky mountains national park in north carolina. >> he took the time to dig a grave. then he took the time to pour the gasoline on them and to

light that on fire. >> what bishop didn't plan on were a couple of alert park service rangers who spotted the smoke from afar. >> that ranger found an area, burned grass and a shallow grav, with what turned to be five bodies in it. >> but no sign of bradford bishop, who only left his car and plenty of evidence in his wake. but investigators would never be able to prove it, because bishop vanished into thin air. at the time, bishop was put onto the fbi's list of the ten most wanted fugitives. >> an automatic $100,000 reward. it generates a huge publicity blast. we had billboards put up in new york times square throughout the u.s. >> the fbi even releasing a sculpted model of how bishop might look decades later. roy harrell knows bishop well. they had worked together at the state department. he actually believes he saw bishop in italy back in

the mid 90s while on a ski trip. >> when i was drying my hands and proceeding to leave the restroom, he was standing there. i said, hey, you're brad bishop, aren't you? and he looked at me and said, oh god, no. and ran from me out into a blinding rainstorm. >> the fbi recently removed bishop from the most wanted list to make room for new cases. odds are there will be no justice for the gruesome murders. or could there be? now, true crime news has a shocking twist in the case. kathy gilchrest is known from a young age that she was adopted. >> my parents couldn't have children, and so they adopted my brother john, and they came back and adopted me. >> recently, she decided to search out her birth parents. >> i've been blessed with incredibly good health, but i, my oldest daughter, has epilepsy, so obtaining genetic

wife and the man he thought she was cheating on him with. we've been following this case for months and we have more new details today. reporter ali abu laban, the man who calls himself jinn kid, is now charged with killing his wife anna marie and her friend rayburn barron while inside this san diego high rise. but did he shoot them in the heat of passion? or was this premeditated murder? >> yes, ma'am. my wife and another man were. i found him dead on the couch. >> okay. steph. i was on my way. >> ali made this 911 call, but would later admit to shooting them. he would plead not guilty to murder charges, saying it all happened in the heat of the moment. a snap reaction to finding his wife with another man saying untreated mental illness and drug abuse put him in a state of psychosis. prosecutors say it was all an act, using his own words against him. and now true crime news has the whole case file and the

he's throwing things at her. anna runs out of the room, we grab a mirror, and we just storm off out of the apartment. ali was nonstop texting her like, come back, bring my daughter back. i'm going to take all the money out of the account. i asked her, you know, does he treat you like this all the time? has this happened before? and she's like, no, no, babe, don't worry about it. don't worry about it. i'm fine. it's okay. we're just going to talk later. he's just mad. that was her first glimpse of how crazy ali could get. >> and on the day he went from crazy to a killer, prosecutors pick apart his heat of passion claims, laying out a timeline of everything he did that day. you can see abu laban enter the garage to the apartment building. he runs toward the apartment where anna, maria and ray were sitting on the couch. then around 10s later, you can hear gunshots. ali leaves the apartment and he seems to be in

a panic trying to figure out his next move. 45 seconds later, abu laban leaves the elevator and is seen pacing back and forth between the elevator and the apartment before he finally decides to go back inside the apartment where he just shot his wife and her friend. screaming out anna's name, prosecutors say he was trying to cover his tracks, pretending that he found them, but he didn't count on a neighbor's security camera recording a call to his mom. >> i just like to hear us. i just like him. >> prosecutors say it was all part of an elaborate plan. the motive? his wife asked for a divorce. he installed a listening app on his daughter's ipad and waited until he heard them together and put his plan into action. >> right after you shot anna in the head, you pushed her head down into ray's lap, right? >> oh, god.
