ray of hope here? plus a mother shot in the back of the head, her infant daughter crying in her crib across the hall. her cheating husband was the prime suspect. >> i did ask him about why he did not go into the house initially. >> nancy's mysterious bruises. the shocking twist in the case. and could new technology finally bring her killer to justice? thanks for joining us. jennifer kessy was 24 years old and seemed to have it all. a great boyfriend, close friends, and a loving family. then she disappeared from her orlando condo without a trace. a beautiful, successful young businesswoman vanishes without a trace as time goes on and no clues to her whereabouts, the mystery only deepens, sparking more than a thousand blind leads and an avalanche of theories about what on earth happened to jennifer kessy.
1:32 pm
>> there are so many scenarios that run through your head. >> can her parents relentless spirit be enough to get to the truth? >> i will find you. i will. >> 24 year old jennifer has just returned to orlando, florida, after a four day vacation in the caribbean with her boyfriend rob, calling her family. the next day. >> she sounded fabulous. >> but the following day, when jennifer fails to turn up for work at a real estate company where she is a fast rising executive, a concerned cfo calls her family to ask if she is ill. >> she really was never sick anyhow, or never, never missed work. >> her parents fears escalate when jennifer doesn't respond to phone calls, texts and emails. >> we were calling hospitals. we were calling jails. we were calling her friends. we're asking them to call places and calling rob. and he tried calling her even, and she did not answer. >> a frantic drew and joyce drive two hours to her condo near disney world, where they find everything in place.
1:33 pm
>> we actually found 2 or 3 outfits laid out on her bed. shower was still damp, her towel was still damp, her work stuff was not there. so we knew that okay, she got ready for work. >> and her car is not in the parking lot. but what happened after that remains unknown. an urgent search is launched when the kesses notifyice that jennifer is missing. tv news reporter scott thuman, a friend of jennifer's, helps get the word out. >> i made sure that they were on every tv station, every single night, as long as we could keep that alive. >> then finally a clue. within days, police find her chevy malibu in a visitor's parking space at an apartment building about a mile from her condo. but there's little evidence in the car to tie anyone to jennifer's disappearance. police quickly uncover security video from the lot at the parking complex,
1:34 pm
showing it was dropped off just hours after jennifer would have left for work. there are two different angles surrounding the pool area, but it's very blurry. you can see someone in jennifer's car pulling into that visitor's parking lot, then waiting inside the car for a few seconds before they get out, look around and walk out of frame of the camera. but the next shot of the video is a person walking back and forth along the fence line. unfortunately, the person's face is obscured by a fence post in every frame of the video. the kesses had nasa take a look at the surveillance video, but even with their technology, they could not enhance the image. police interviewed jennifer's boyfriend, rob, who had an airtight alibi. he was more than 200 miles away in fort lauderdale at the time of her disappearance. >> rob has been put over the coals. rob has been polygraphed 3 or 4 times. rob has been interviewed probably a dozen times. >> investigators look at a variety of other individuals a jealous ex-boyfriend, a married
1:35 pm
coworker, and various construction workers at her condo complex. but nothing pans out. >> i can't help but wonder, was it someone stalking her from afar that she didn't even know? could there have been someone watching her comings and goings? >> jennifer's parents have even considered the possibility that maybe she was kidnaped by sex traffickers. >> my gut feeling to this day, honestly, i truly believe she she is trafficked. >> now frustrated for almost two decades with no answers and jennifer declared dead by the state of florida, the kesses have largely taken matters into their own hands. joining me now is jennifer kesse's father, drew. drew, thank you so much. i'm so sorry for your loss, and i'm so sorry that we are now marking 19 years since the disappearance of your daughter. >> yes. thank you. >> is there any ray of hope here. >> in 2019? we actually took the orlando police department and the city of orlando to court
1:36 pm
because we wanted her jennifer's case files. at that point, we honestly felt that we could do a better job privately. so we took them to court, and we're told we're the first people in america that actually sued for open case and actually received it. so after after receiving the files, i, i had a team. i have a team actually of 13 investigators that worked on jennifer's case for almost two years. and they got to the point where it comes down to law enforcement has to do the rest of the work. otherwise things aren't good in court and all that good stuff. for if you want to arrest someone. so we at that point, after a lot of frustration, what we really found out through the documents is from the year 2012 to 2019, when we finally won the case files, no investigation had been
1:37 pm
taking place for seven years. not one single document was written in seven years, so they basically gave up on jennifer. we approached the department of law enforcement in florida, the fdle, as it's known here, and we said, it's up to you guys now. it's here. we have this, this, this, this, and this to do. and it's up to you guys to finish the job. and they agreed to take it on. >> the fdle is considering this still a missing persons case, even though she was declared dead. >> absolutely. it's where it is. they're doing all the things that we've asked for. everything is coming through really the way it should have been done 19 years ago. >> very sorry. how do you get through the day? >> i mean, we're a very strong family and we're, you know, what's left of us is very strong together. joyce and i are married 47 years. we know each

other 50 years. very close to our son and daughter in law and our grandchildren. now, that's what gets us through the day. i love my grandchildren and they love me. but we haven't found jennifer. and, you know, joyce and i created jennifer, and we're her parents, and we nurtured her and nurtured her. we had 24 years with her and we can't get i can't give up. we just can't give up on her. and it's not in us. it's not in our blood. >> drew, i really wish for you, your wife, your entire. >> family, that this is the year that you get some answers. the answers you need. >> we thank you so much and we hope so. >> if you have any information about jennifer's disappearance, the kesse family has set up their own tip line at (941) 201-4009. you can also contact the true crime news tip line at (888) 845-7555. up next, a mom is murdered. her baby

shot to death in her home, while her infant daughter was just across the hall. nancy probst, a daughter, a sister, a young mother deeply loved by her family and friends. >> i miss her to pieces. i miss her being a mother. >> found brutally slain in her home in midwest city, oklahoma, across the hall from her nine month old daughter leah, leaving her own mother, alberta henley, deep in mourning. >> she's not here. no more phone calls, no more holidays, no more nothing. >> to this day, no one has been convicted of the heinous crime that left 32 year old nancy probst lying on the bedroom floor with a 25 caliber bullet in the back of her head. it began when nancy's husband of three years, matthew probst, returned home from his job as a mechanic. he would later tell police he was deeply worried about his wife.
1:44 pm
>> he said he could not reach her by phone all day, and on the way home, he felt something had happened to her. for the average person, if you can't reach your spouse by phone, that's normally not the first thing that comes to your mind. if someone is killed, her. >> phone records reveal matthew called his wife 26 times between 3 and 6 p.m. when he got home, he made a 27th call to 911. >> i need the police. >> okay. what's the problem, sir. >> i something wrong with my wife? i don't know, i'm afraid to go in the house. it looks like somebody's been in the house. she's laying on the floor in the bedroom. i'm afraid to go in there. i need somebody here. >> okay, sir. i'm going to get them on the way, okay? >> my baby's there too. okay. >> hold on. sir. >> to this day, no one has been convicted of the heinous crime. from the moment detective sid porter arrived on the scene, something felt off to him. >> instead of going inside like most people would. he says he
1:45 pm
goes to the back because he felt something was wrong. looks in the window back there and sees nancy laying on the floor, and then comes around the front to call 911. >> he said, she's just laying on the floor. yeah. have you felt for a pulse? >> i haven't even gone in the house. >> okay. >> matthew's reaction to sounds from inside his house baffled cops as well. he chose to call 911 rather than actually enter his home to help his wife, and crying nine month old. >> ten people couldn't have kept me from going inside there and seeing if my family was okay. he made a comment. i didn't want to just burst in up there because there could be someone inside holding a gun to the back of her head. okay, why would you make a statement like that? >> detective porter noted matthew's unusual demeanor again when they bring little leah out of the house. >> he made comments like, well, she must be hungry because she hasn't eaten all day. well, he had left around 7:00 that morning. how would he know when she ate, or when she didn't eat,
1:46 pm
or when the time of the homicide occurred? >> police dug deeper into matthew's story, only to find more red flags. >> i did ask him about why he did not go into the house initially, and his reasoning was he didn't want to contaminate the crime scene if there was one. >> police found no evidence of forced entry, robbery or sexual assault, and no gun was recovered. a blind on a front window was hanging loose and they found nancy partially dressed with a tv cable laid across her back. >> it was wrapped around her, but it was laid over her. my opinion and others to the crime scene was staged. >> the lights in the bedroom were out, which cast even more doubt on matthew's story. >> when he saw his wife through the window. i don't believe that with the lighting on in the house, the way it was, that he could have saw the detail that he reported. >> private investigator tammy cain, hired by nancy's family, believed the killer was clearly
1:47 pm
enraged. >> she had a busted lip. her face was black and blue. she had numerous contusions on her body, and her hair had been pulled out. there had been a really violent struggle. >> then detectives discovered disturbing details about matthew's private life. >> the day of the murder, he had had a sexual relations with a lady while he was at work. and then several weeks after the homicide, he had sexual relations with the same lady inside the house where nancy was killed. that makes somebody a murderer? absolutely not. is it inappropriate and unusual? yes. >> police interviewed matthew at the station the night of the murder and asked him to come back the next day. he agreed initially, but never showed up. >> calling back and learned that he had obtained an attorney and he was told not to come in. so we did not do a polygraph. >> as the man of the house, your wife's dead. you have a child that's not going to have her mother. i want to find out who did this. and getting an attorney and then not talking to
1:48 pm
the police anymore is not a way i would be going about that. >> but this story is far from over. police had their suspicions. but would matthew's attorney put a spoiler on the entire case? >> he said, well, i'll dismiss on your client today if you'll go take it and pass the polygraph. and i told him to go to hell. when we come back, cops make an arrest. >> it was a time to breathe. okay? it's finally going to come out now. >> but will the charges stick? >> i was drowning in debt. >> i didn't even know how i was going to buy food for my kids. >> i had over $36,000 in debt. >> if i would have just made the minimum payments, it would have taken me 59 years to pay off. i knew i wasn't going to be able to get out of debt myself. >> i picked up the phone and called national debt relief. they were my savior. >> whether it's credit card,

1:53 pm
his brother, we focused on him. we checked other areas. if any other crimes could have possibly been related to this, there will be. some people try to say that we just focused completely on him and no one else, and that's incorrect. >> but when detectives added up all the circumstantial evidence, matthew became their prime suspect. detectives put together a lengthy affidavit and took it to the district attorney. >> we found nothing outside, anything indicating anybody inside the residence from any other person except matthew probst. at this time. >> nancy's nine month old daughter, lilia, was taken in by her brother brian and his wife at the time, lori. in the weeks leading up to matthew's arrest, he stopped by a few times for dinner. >> he mooched supper off of us and then he'd leave. one night he bought pizza. >> he might have brought one thing of diapers to. >> matthew, had little contact with his daughter in the family.
1:54 pm
claims he's offered almost no support. eventually, they adopted lilia with little resistance from matthew. >> he did not want that baby to begin with. >> because he already had two children that he couldn't afford to take care of. he didn't want another one to support. >> then, nearly five months after nancy was found shot in her home, matthew was finally charged with her murder and sat behind bars awaiting trial, while her family and friends mourned and hoped for resolution. >> it was a time to breathe, to actually okay, it's finally going to come out now. >> but meanwhile, matthew's attorney, irvin bokk, went to work chipping away at the police affidavit. >> from the standpoint of looking at evidence. after i saw all what they had, they didn't have anything. >> if the prosecution brought their case to a jury too soon in a circumstantial case and the jury acquitted matthew, there would be no second chance to retry him.
1:55 pm
>> we'd never done what he did. but still what? sho's he committed the crime. >> and that was exactly the problem. after 13 agonizing months of court hearings and delays, nancy's family was stunned when the district attorney's office dropped the case and matthew probst went free. >> i was hoping to find out some answers. i was wanting to get to the bottom of this. >> police were disappointed, too, but remained clear on one thing. all these years later, matthew probst is still a suspect in the killing of his wife. >> i've seen things out here in my career from other communities and states that have had less circumstantial evidence than what this does. it's hard for me to believe that he has no involvement whatsoever in this case. >> and they aren't giving up on searching for evidence. >> there are some things that, as recently come up that i cannot talk about evidence wise, that i think is going to be hard
1:56 pm
for him. >> while asked what message nancy's parents have for their former son in law. >> i would probably be the first suspect if he got killed. >> i can't explain why it's taken so long for the person who did this horrible act to. nancy is still out there walking. i can't explain why matthew probst would not talk to us and come in, but someday we're going to know. >> we'll be right back. >> attention medicare beneficiaries. if you have or are eligible for medicaid, please listen closely. you may be eligible for medicare advantage plan from wellcare with a $0 or low monthly plan premium call. now we can answer your questions and help you enroll over the phone. wellcare provides access to essential benefits that go beyond original medicare, such as dental, vision, hearing, and $0 or low prescription drug co-pays with free home delivery. free
