businesses that were hit, this is a small, locally owned business. and it took a big hit when it was burglarized just a few days before christmas. and since then, police said they've seen quite an increase in burglaries. and now they're thinking they could be connected. [ horns honking ] >> i guess you kind of go, these things happen. >> reporter: business burglaries happen. but this isn't the way margaret moore was hoping to bring in the new year. >> well, we're a small, local business. i think anything -- anything, no matter how small it is -- taken from you can be important. >> reporter: this suspect broke into inga's alpine lounge a few days before christmas. he's caught on surveillance video stealing hundreds of dollars of alcohol after not finding any money. >> he was in here almost an hour, they said. so, yeah. >> reporter: denver police think he may be the same guy who smashed his way into businesses along the one-mile stretch of hampton avenue this week. other stores were hit on the

he broke into all types of places from a wig shop to chain restaurants looking for cash. >> it feels creepier knowing he was up and down the block or could have been in here drinking and socializing and -- i don't know, casing the place. >> as investigators look for the suspect, margaret says you have to leave what happened last year behind. she's looking forward to another hopefully crime-free year of business. >> we're moving on. 2016 will be a great year. >> reporter: it's unclear how much was stolen from those other businesses. obviously this is in the initial stages of an investigation, mark, which is why investigators are asking anyone with information give crimestoppers a call. >> we hope certainly they catch him. thank you very much. jessica oh along there. a strip club called pt's caught fire near colfax and yosemite street. they believe the fire started on the corner of the building on the administrative side, not the club side. no one was inside the building

the cause of the blaze has not been released. but the denver fire department is saying the damage is mostly smoke-related. police are looking for a man who shot another man leaving a night club shortly after the new year began in denver. police got a call about the shooting this morning around 1:30 near the intersection of lincoln and 12th. vet toes say the victim was leaving the church night club and got into a fight with someone in the parking lot. the other man shot him in the torso and took off. the victim is in critical condition. >> we had a suspect description of a hispanic male wearing a gray shirt fleeing the area. at present, that's the only suspect description we have. >> if you were there last night and saw anything, you're asked to contact denver police. ready, set, dive! for thrill seekers, evergreen lake was the place to kick off the new year today. hundreds of brave swimmers eagerly awaited their chance to jump into the water barely above freezing. for many, it's a holiday tradition.

the new year off with a spectacular amount of courage like that. four troopers from the colorado state patrol to first test the water in full uniform taking their plunge for safety to raise awareness, they say. >> we do it every year! >> it was a surprise. it was remarkably hard to breathe at first. but then after you got used to the water, you know, it was -- it was pretty exhilarating. it was pretty exciting. >> the warmth from the firefighters brought instant comfort, though! [ laughter ] >> firefighters were on hand to get the swimmers out of the freezing water. a large portion of the fundraised money will go to the evergreen special needs program. good for all of them. and early january along the front range finally with no chance of snow for several days now. even for the high country. high temperatures in denver today reached above the freezing mark for thes very first time in a week. it's been plain miserable. and this is just the beginning

[ laughter ] >> i am, too, mark! it's been days since we've been dealing with teens and 20s for highs! it's been since christmas we hit 35 degrees. eastern colorado warming up quite a bit. in fact, from this time to yesterday, a good 10 to 15 degrees warmer than we were for a lot of folks. 27 in denver. same in fort collins. we were at 8 below in kremmling. 8 below in meeker. a cold one across colorado. we had a bit of a haze, a brown cloud early this morning but a bit of wind out there. that should help us out through the weekend. hd doppler 9, nice and dry. this is how it'll stay overnight and into tomorrow. in fact, i'll put the futurecast in motion. you won't see a lot of change. by 8:00, a couple high clouds toward i-70. not quite as chilly overnight.

continue to slowly climb upwards as well. and should be mild for our fist weekend of 2016. and when in the world will we see snow around here? mark, looks like it'll be a while before we see the flakes falling around denver. >> i'll say this, we've had plenty for a while. so we can take a break! >> we have! and feel the sunshine! >> which you could feel today for the first time in days! thanks again. >> uh-huh. a gunman killed two and injured others in tel tel-aviv. the motive is unclear at this point. a manhunt is underway for the perpetrator. they say the shooter waited outside a on a bench before firing an automatic gun. in the aftermath, police and other security officers could be seen running through the site of the attack as medics tended to those wounded. this is not the first, though. israel has seen a wave of street attacks since october. the government of dubai says efforts to cool down the scene of last night's massive

continued today. flames engulfed the 63-story hotel even as crowds gathered for the fireworks display. 14 minor injuries were reported during the evacuation of the hotel. >> we were really shocked because it was burning right up the building all the way. fireworks were going to be going. and the lights were turned off. so we went back to the flat. we were scared. there were explosions. and we didn't know what was happening. >> small fires can still be seen burning through some windows. authorities say they're still working to determine the exact cause of this fire. the building would have a prime stop for viewing -- would have been a prime stop for viewing the midnight fireworks display. it had more than 200 rooms and 600 residential units. in munich, police evacuated two train stations, citing from

one was for munich's train station and another site in the city. they warned people not to gather in public. some 550 policemen were on duty. earlier this morning, the railway stations were reopened. there's still a terror alert in effect in munich. >> the spokeswoman for the family of a who died in anchorage, alaska, says the plane crash was a suicide. they say there was no reason to think he was trying to harm anyone but himself. demrest was flying tuesday when he clipped a building where his wife worked at a law firm and crashed into an unoccupied commercial building. he died in the scene. they say he was not authorized to fly the airplane. hundreds of thousands of spectators haven't left chilly temperatures or security -- -- haven't let chilly temperatures

i said, it won't be that bad. wrong! it was freezing! it was freezing! [ laughter ] >> and i know! it was supposed to be one of the warmer days! believe it or not. but still a lot of sunshine out there. and the glowing sunlight over phenomenal. this has been the tone all day nice, quiet. and like i said, the temperatures just warming up a few degrees above the freezing mark made it better than the deep freeze we were stuck in all last week. downtown denver looks pretty good tonight as we have clear skies. looking ahead towards january, our averages, where we typically end up, averages near 30 degrees. rain, precipitation, 4/10. and we usually pick up 7 inches of snow. we'll see how it fares. 35 in denver. cooler in greeley. made nit pueblo. 24 in deadville. and 20s further across the western slope. right now, 27. look at the winds. not that bad. coming out of the south about 6 miles-per-hour. we can handle that.

be relatively nice, not quite as biting as outside the past week. and and it's because of the jet stream. shifted just a bit. it's bringing that pocket of colder air into the the great lakes and new england. that will bring us the milder temperatures over the weekend and into the start of next week. i think you're going to like what you see. looking ahead toward what we have going on across the country right now, really quiet. that ridge bringing us some dry weather across most the west. a subtropical jet, though, a little more active. bringing the rain showers to texas, the gulf coast, and even eastern seaboard, an area that doesn't need to see anymore wet weather. and out there into parts of new york, picking up on big time winter weather. getting the lake-effect snow and moving all the way towards boston. they're finally dealing with the bitter cold temperatures and the wet weather. around here, it's been quiet. hd doppler 9 looking really nice. and as we look through the rest of tonight and tomorrow morning, nothing really changes. tomorrow morning, we'll wake up 8:00, 9:00.

if you're driving i-70, going to take some turns for the first of the year in the mountains, i'd say the weather shouldn't be an issue, as far as the roads are concerned. and even driving back, should be a breeze. few high level clouds here and there. but overall, a nice, nice start to our weekend and start to the new year. we'll be at 9 below in greeley overnight. i know still some areas along the south platte river valley and higher mountain valleys, still sub zero overnight. in the teens in the metro area with the mostly clear skies. winds out of the west, southwest at 10 miles per hour. no biggie there. and looking ahead toward tomorrow, a good 10 degrees warmer. in the city, 43. citying in the 40s for most of eastern colorado. in the mountains, enjoying the bluebird skies and warmer numbers as well. 46 in black hawk. 46 in littleton with upper 30s in platteville. eaten at 39. 35 in lyons. hazy this weekend but not too bad. loads of sunshine out there for the start of next week.

for this time of the year. close to 50 on tuesday. going to feel like a heat wave. and then finally tracking the next system pushing in on thursday, friday, and saturday. kind of a slow mover, so to speak. could bring us a little snow fall to the metro area and possibly cooler temperatures to just back down to the freezing mark. of course, big game day coming at us on sunday. broncos as they take on the chargers. we'll have plenty of sunshine out there. 2:30 for kickoff. the temperatures for january couldn't be much better. mid-40s then. hopefully the boys are coming off with a big win. we'll be down to the mid-30s. so we're lucky. >> oh, yes, absolutely. >> it's about time! >> and that will be near south beach for us. >> absolutely! >> feeling like south beach around here! from colorado sports leaders leaders. >> the new year resolution is for a first by in the playoff and a win on sunday will get them there. the broncos rene short week with their monday night win over cincinnati. and, yes, the chargers are 4- 11. but they haven't played since last thursday. so one on a rest and the other on an extended break. >> i think we have a tough task for the weekend. a tough game. last game of the year. anything goes type of deal. i think we all understand that. but we have rallied back, you know. yesterday we were a little slower. i think i said that to y'all. but we practiced good yesterday. we had a lot of energy today. >> we'll see how much action veteran wide receiver jordan norwood sees on sunday.
