up with a murder plot will be in court. police the student at mountain vista high school was working on the plan with a classmate. 9news reporter colleen ferreira is following this for us... colleen it's charges will be filed today. it's possible formal charges could be filed at the hearing. this all started year old girls, school, were taken into custody in connection with a threat at mountain vista high school. one of the girls was transferred to jail on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first- degree murder. she appeared in court dec. 17, but prosecutors asked for a delay before making a final decision about filing charges. we don't know the status of the second girl involved....authoriti es are only saying she is in a "secure facility." one of the girls will appear in court this morning. we don't know many details about the case because documents have been sealed. 9news along with other news organization has filed a motion so those documents would be unsealed. attorneys for a former rocky ford court this morning. we don't know many details about the case because documents have been sealed. 9news along with other news organization has filed a motion so those documents would be unsealed.

police officer want graphic photos of from his murder james ashby is fatally shooting jack jacquez his defense team says pictures showing jacquez's injuries could unfairly sway a investigators say

jacquez into the home of jacquez's mother and shot him in the back. ashby told investigators he thought jacquez was a burglar. his trial will begin on monday. denver police are trying to figure out whether the driver of a deadly crash was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. that driver - 55- year-old semere dawit - is in the hospital - under the close watch of police. investigators say he caused the accident at colorado boulevard and mexico avenue on sunday. two people were killed and several others were injured. denver fire say they got a call sunday afternoon - about a person sleeping at the wheel. when firefighters got there, the driver sped away --likely driving at least 70 miles per hour. police say that's when 4-cars collided. we learned last night that dawit has had several traffic infractions over the last decade... including speeding. police say it will take about two to three weeks to get the toxicology reports back on this case. the coroner's office identified the two people killed as 42-year-

and 29-year-old jonathan nichols. a friend of nichols says he was a loving father and fiance, who will be terribly missed. firefighters are still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a building in arvada and left one dead. yesterday... authorities found a body inside that commercial building. a man who works at a rehab center in the building-- has been missing since the fire. 55-year-old john rutter was a counselor at the treatment center. fire officials haven't been able to confirm the identity of the person found yesterday. a series of smash and grab burglaries have been reported in denver, englewood and sheridan. there have been more than 20 incidents in recent weeks. now we're getting a look at the suspect in yesterday morning's burglary at a verizon store in the river point shopping center in sheridan. the surveillance camera captured this blurry photo of the suspect. police say the thief threw a rock through the door and took several phones. and police say around the same time, a thief threw a rock into a store

area. the owner of the business told us about 200-dollars in cash was taken from the cash register. if you know anything about these crimes, call crime stoppers. you could get a reward and you don't have to give your name. police in wheat ridge say they've also seen an increase in break- ins at businesses. 12 burglaries or attempted burglaries were reported in december. police there have stepped up patrols in response. they say one minor was arrested - accused of breaking into a few gas stations in december. in the day ahead.. we are exectomg to hear from president obama about specific steps he plans to take to tighten gun laws. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas has been looking into this for us.. tarhonda yesterday he's calling for broadened background checks. yes. that's one of the changes that the president wants to make. and, already, there are opponents to his plan. president obama is bypassing congress to impose executive orders on gun control. the president met

lynch yesterday. she says the restrictions are constitutional. republicans say--- the president is violating americans' second amendment rights. later today-- he's expected to announce new gun control measures. they include adding more than two-hundred f-b-i agents... ...and changing the rules to prevent people with mental health restrictions from possessing guns. one of the most controversial proposals in the president's plan-- is to close the gun show loophole. federally-licensed sellers are already required to conduct background checks at gun shows. private sellers, however, don't have to conduct background checks at gun shows-- in 35 states. colorado already requires private sellers-- even at gun shows-- to do background checks. that change came as part of the 20-13 gun control legislation that passed in colorado. representative rhonda fields helped push those changes through. and, now, we're hearing that-- today-- she'll meet with president obama at the white house. representative fields "tweeted" that she's quote "all in" on the new proposal. corey-- we'll get

the president's announcement, today. the biggest months ever for gun sales in the u-s-- happened both times president obama was elected.. in november 2008 -- there were one point one million guns sold nationwide. in january 2013-- after his "re- election" and the shooting at sandy hook-- two million guns were sold. nationwide last month-- one point six million guns were sold as the president hinted at gun control changes. this is a look at the number of background checks for gun sales in colorado in recent years. in 2009-- there were a little more than 200 thousand. by 2013-- that number climbed to nearly 400 thousand-- before dropping in 2014. the number of firearms denials has also gone up from about 54 hundred in 2009-- to more than 73 hundred in 2012 and 2013. that averages to about two percent of all firearm sales in colorado have been denied. colorado is one of 8 states that already require a background check

world trade organization ruled the u.s. labels put canadian and mexican livestock at a disadvantage. this is a major victory for the meat industry, which had fought the law since the early 2000s. dragging around a heavy suitcase when you travel-- may soon be a thing of the past. five teenagers in lebanon say they have created the design for a "smart suitcase." it's aptly named the "follow me suitcase." the creators say the luggage is equipped with an h-d camera and infrared sensors-- that allow the bag to follow its owner around. the user can also control the bag's movements through a mobile app. the teens are now hoping to attract funding to take their product to market.
