we do not know what prompted the arrest of the two girls. we know there was a plot to attack now vista -- mount vista high school. this was december 12 in the attack was planned for the following week. the girls were arrested the same day. we do not have a full picture with the specifics because documents about the case remain sealed. the girl will be back in court on the 14th after the psychiatric evaluation. a search warrant was issued so investigators can get a hold of her cell phone which is a key piece of evidence in the case. it is unclear if the girl in court now will be charged as an adult. if she is charged as an adult this afternoon, we will be able to give her name.>> it sounds like the investigation is still going on. investigators are talking to everyone. >> reporter: we could get a better picture of what is happening today.

and we will tried -- we are trying to find out what happens to the second girl. we will have more information. the body found inside of a burned treatment center in arvada was one of the counselors. his identity was confirmed today. john a. rutter was found inside. the fire started at 64 and wadsworth. john a. rutter was at work and he has been missing since they found his body. the autopsy results have not been released yet. the cause of the fire is under investigation. there are air-quality restrictions for the denver and boulder metro areas. if you have had trouble breathing today, now you know why. people who are sensitive to air- quality are encouraged to stay inside until at least tomorrow afternoon. we have meteorologist belen de leon in the weather center. when you think about -- what do you think about this and when will we get a break?

those things.>> we will get back to you soon, belen the airport in spokane, washington a united airlines flight bound for denver slid off the runway airport officials say that freezing rain mated icy on the runway. flight operations were closed for more than two hours at the airport. 166 passengers were offloaded through a rear door. our partners in spokane say that the passenger should arrive in denver this afternoon. we are learning more about the sexual assault reported near the tu campus. the victim was a student at the school -- du campus. the victim was a student at the school and the crime involved date rate drugs. it happened january 2 off- campus. the latest numbers from du are from 2014. there were 16 sexual assault reported on students. everyone of them occurred on campus. that director of the du program to help students deal with

ammon bundy is the side of . asking for help to fill up the timeline of the attacker's moves on that day. a member of the los angeles fbi said that investigators are specifically seeking information about an 18 minute gap in the timeline between the deadly attack at the inland regional center in the shootout in which both attackers were killed. investigators say they hope to find out if the assailants contacted anybody during that time period. the national weather service says that heavy rain in southern california is shaking rocks loose and causing fluttered -- causing flooding. in the city of malibu, drivers are experiencing delays on the roads. this is in the steep santa monica mountains because of debris. about a mile of each -- a beachside road is closed in

-- is facing a gun violence crisis. he calls for a reduction of gun violence in the country.>> we are talking to political experts to get your take on the announcement today. there are a lot of strong views on this. james mayhap represents the democratic side and kelly represents the republican side. when we talk about it, it is an emotional issue to begin with. we knew this was going to happen this week, what was your reaction? kelly, we will start with you. some -- >>, obama's speech was short on specifics. i think a lot of people are waiting to see more specifics before we take a stand one way or the other on his proposal. of things he talked about today, they were frankly concerning. >> i think the biggest concern is the number of lives that we are losing. obama pointed out 30,000 lives

when you are the executive of the country and in charge of that branch, you have to do something about it. this was obama's chance to make a change and i think you made a step in the right direction. >> reporter: the president talked about have your controls and background checks. that has already happened in colorado. this essentially addresses the 35 states that are not doing it. how do you address that going forward.>> certainly we need to close the gun sale loopholes well pete -- were people buy online or at gun shows -- where people buy online or at gun so -- at gun shows. that needs to stop. things as simple as background checks need to be employed around the country. >> reporter: emotionally, when you talk about it, many people will say that the bad guys will

that is what we have heard from many republican candidates today. they will find a way. >> everybody is talking about the fact that obama cried. that is the story of the day. during the speech, he cried. i differ from my republican colleagues and i will give him the benefit of the doubt. unless it was one of the most scripted press conferences that he ever had and he spontaneously burst into tears over the issue. given that, the substance of what he was saying is serious. he is trying to legislate by executive over -- order. he is trying to usurp congress. he says i am not up for reelection and i can do whatever i want to. congress cannot because they have to stand for reelection. >> reporter: the reluctance of congress to pass meaningful regulation in terms of gun

what is your reaction?>> the executive branch has to make a move and they have to force the hand of congress in this case. i think it raises the importance of gun control around the country. it raises the importance of gun control here in colorado. we know the governor is poised to make moves on this during this legislative session. i don't think they can stand by and do nothing anymore.>> reporter: what do you think specifically about colorado? where did the gun issues fall in your opinion? >> gun issues have always been we have recalls related to guns. gun issues will always be an issue in western states like this. in response, the reality is that we have a constitution and we have checks and balances for region -- reason. we elect a president and not a king.

this snow is expected to increase. on wolf creek past -- pass and in durango there could be 3-6 inches. tonight the temperatures drop to 23 and the skies will be partly cloudy. no snow just yet in the city -- or alumni 25. gunnison will have -- along i- 25. it will be partly cloudy and maybe a little breezy toward the afternoon with the clouds increasing at 7:00 a.m. temperatures will be at 23 as the kids walk to the bus stop. it will be about 40 degrees at 11:00 a.m. at 2:00, the temperatures will be about 45 degrees. the snow will become more widespread in the high country on wednesday. the snow will not arrive to the

plan ahead for thursday morning because it could be a difficult commute. there is a chance for snow on friday and saturday. look at the high country snow amounts that are forecasted. we could see 2-5 inches here in the metro area. we will not get it all at once. we will get some each day through the weekend. thursday about 1 inch of snow with a high of 36. friday 1-2 inches with a high of 30. then the polar air in times for weekend and the stock show. we are looking at the next nine days and you want to keep the winter gear handy. the temperatures will be in the 30s and the brighter spot is the middle of next week when temperatures get back to the 40s and are more seasonable. the stock show starts in the next week we will be back in the 40s.>> a little bit of a shift.

regarding the teenagers accused of the plot against mountain vista high school. one teen is ordered for a mental evaluation and the other i guess they are going to >> reporter: one of the 16-year- old girls in the plot will be charged as an adult. her name is sienna johnson, a student at the school. she and another 16-year-old girl are charged with the plot of an attack on the school. this was after a tipster alerted the sheriff's office. they say she has shown no remorse and admitted to law enforcement that if she had to do it over again, she would've been more discreet. she is charged with two counts of conspiracy to get -- commit murder in her bond is set at $1 million. the other girl will undergo a psychiatric evaluation and she will probably be charged when
