champa just reopened after a hit-and-run investigation. that's where we find colleen fierra. good morning, everyone. we begin with breaking news. what do you find out, colleen. >> reporter: good morning, gary. well, this intersection, as you can see behind me, is clear of police and the rollover accident that happened. traffic is moving freely. we know police are investigating a rollover hit and run crash that happened sometime before 5:00 a.m. in this intersection. you can see the rollover has been clear at this time. so the good news is traffic is moving free flowing at the time. here's the thing, guys, police

driver at this time. they're asking if you have any information in this area anytime for 5:00 this morning. please contact police. of injuries. amelia, i can tell you that it's good that this intersection is open. never a good thing we have a hit and run crash this morning. anything. morning commute, you should be fine in this area. >> good to hear. we've seen so many of these hit and run crashes over the past several years, we've seen you -- the rest of the drive, we're happy to say after several busy days we're off to a smooth start. i-25 speeds across the board still in the 60s. so i will take that this morning. your 225 travel times are looking good. accidents to report.

country as the storm moves in from the west and, as marty tells us, we're ready for what to expect tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon. what's interesting tomorrow, amelia, it will move in during the morning commute. hopefully we're not going to get a lot of ice. we shouldn't have anything terrible tomorrow morning. this is a totally separate system for what was causing the snow there yesterday. winter storm warnings in the durango area. durango. by late tonight, 3-6 in the four corners. in the san juan, 6-12. that's a winter weather advisory that's going to go morning. again, you see some new snow in the durango area. snow is going to spread from

we've got light snow here tomorrow and friday, additional snow fills everything in. we actually have a little hot spot for mildly heavier snow, just to the east of us coming up tomorrow, about 2-6 inches on the plains. by the time we get through this whole thing, we're looking at a 2-5-inch snow around here. as we look across the morning going across the 40s by early this afternoon, snow continues in mountain areas. notice these temperatures in the mountains in the 30s today. it's a pacific system. the first part is not all that cold. the cold air comes in on friday. >> all right. like round one, phase two. >> round one, two, three. >> thank you, marty. denver police car surrounded a truck after an overnight chase. a few patrol cars were banged up in the process. police tell us it started when someone called 911, saying someone followed them in a truck.

truck were shooting at them. when police caught up with the truck, a chase started. officers were able to force that truck to stop. three people were arrested. a highlands ranch teenager will be tried as an adult. she's accused of plotting an attack at her high school. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas is outside the school in highlands ranch. more information came out about this case at a court hearing. >> we learned sierra johnson is being charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit first- degree murder. she's also being charged as an adult. that's why we know her name and we're showing you pictures of her. a student sent an anonymous tip about this plot. police took it seriously and arrested johnson and another girl that very same day. here's what we learned. prosecutors have a journal that belonged to johnson. they say that in her social

several school shootings. the plot she had was very detailed. she mapped out the school, including location where is the students would be, the student movement, and details of the school resource officer. she and another teenager were planning this attack for right before christmas break. so it would have a maximum impact. that's using the words of the prosecutor. they also say that in interviews with johnson, that she faked her mental progress while being evaluated at children's hospital and she showed no remorse for the crime she's charged with. they say she would try to plan it again, just do it more discreetly. so there's so many details coming up about this. the things we have not learned are about the other 16-year-old girl in this case. she has not been charged yet because her mental evaluation has not been complete. now, there's a $1 million bail set for johnson.

because she's too dangerous to be be let out of jail. they're being called the mickey mouse bandits. they robbed a string of family dollar stores this fall. police believe they caught one of the guys. terrence flowers was arrested by atf agents no. word on how many other suspects they might be looking for. the sudanese immigrant who lost his life was not evening the -- was not even the target. five men were linked to the murder. police say he was shot right outside of his house. 26-year-old amen -- is due in court today. he along with devon grand washington, brandon jackson will face first-degree murder charges. a fifth man, bruce roberts, has been charged as an accessory.

is expected to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss north korea's testing of a hydrogen bomb. the u.s. geological survey pinpointed a 5.1 earthquake in the northeastern part of the country. shortly after the tremor, north korea announced they successfully conducted the test. if they did, it's a big jump in the quest to improve the nuclear arsenals. they wanted to build a war head that could be put on a missile capable of reaching the u.s. >> i am monitoring the news developing out of the korean peninsula and hope to have a clear picture soon of what exactly has occurred. he then goes on to say the testing of a hydrogen bomb would serve as a reminder of

forgotten maniac who leads a government that grips to power by fear, intimidation, and murder. as the president is prepared to take executive action on gun control, we talked a lot about that yesterday, congress is gearing up to fight the so-called obama care policy once again. the house plans to vote again to dismantle the affordable care act and for the first time it could pass an -- also pass the senate. that would send a bill to the president's desk where he's guaranteed, of course, to veto it. it strips millions of dollars in funding from planned parenthood, an organization the president strongly supports. it's 5:38. consumers were deceived about the what brain program can do. fine. if the company breaks the terms of the settlement, it could be

>> they offer games online. they touted the game's ability to improve your brain function. al-jazeera is being sued for mentioning them in a report about illegal performance enhancing drugs. >> ryan howard and ryan zimmerman accused them. several players were named in the dark side, including peyton manning. manning indicated last week he is also thinking about suing al- jazeera but as of last night, it was not decided. his agent said he'll decide after the season is over. the report did not say manning was using the drug hgh, only that it was repeatedly sent to his wife. products maybe their debut at the consumer electronics show in las vegas. this hopper box can store 100 hours of video and recordings

the showroom floor. this is kind of the car section. more than anything else, we're seeing so many cars being added to this show. ces is also a car show. yesterday, though, was press day, held at mandalay bay on the las vegas strip. we saw companies like samsung, panasonic. they unveiled a tv that could retail for as much as $11,000. if you have that money, it's pretty cool. there are going to be a lot of tvs on the showroom floor, starting out today, along with brands from big and small, new products from those companies. there will be a ton of people as well, about 150,000 are expected at ces this year. a lot of them are journalists, hoping to be the very first to see this technology and share it with the world. when the doors open, it can be a little bit chaotic. >> it's a complete mob scene at every entrance as thousands of

in order to be the first, sometimes just to touch, just to lay eyeballs on some of these products. there are well over 100,000 people here at the show. and they're all going to be cramming into just a few doors. >> and one of those things we've been able to get a sneak peek at is this connected thermometer from a company. it connects to your smart phone. you simply push a button, hold it to your temple, and literally in a matter of seconds, it gives you your temperature. mine is 97.6. that's a little low. it works so quickly, these are the kind of things that we're seeing at ces. connected health products that connect right to your cell phone. very, very cool stuff. we're going to be showing you a lot more today and starting the rest of the week. >> i just want to go on the record, noel.

when it's all said and done, saturday, a couple inches up and down the corridor. a little more to the east and a little more to the foothills. mountain areas are going to do quite well, especially today through late tomorrow. looking at 6-10 inches of new snow. so, amelia, midweek skiers have something to look forward to. >> we have a lot to look forward to. it's going to be a pretty drive once the snow sets in. it could get tricky as we start to see those accumulations pick up. right now, very light snowflakes come down across vail pass. we have no closures, no chain restrictions right now. back here in the city because it's so nice and calm after our

it just keeps coming. that's what it sounds like across much of southern california. a lot of rain from an el nino driven storm. los angeles county said basin captured 100 million-gallons of runoff. northern california could get up to 15 inches of rain just in the next two weeks. 15 inches in two weeks. >> wow. so much rain fell in san diego this guy was able to paddle board down the street. check this out. looks like he's making the best of a bad situation. many streets in southern california look just like that. as cheryl said, the rain is through thursday. the good news is the long-term prognosis for the drought is guess. >> easing a little bit because of that. works.

>> the 97-'98 el nino, all droughts that led up to them, one of the big ones in the 1800s -- you know, el nino goes back hundreds of years, just because we're occupying in some of these areas, it's news to us, but it's been going for for a long time. it swings down through the desert southwest. we're getting pummeled in arizona and new mexico. south colorado is going to get the heaviest snow out of this system. singles, teens, mountains. teens and 20s through eastern colorado. for us, partly cloudy skies through most of the day. after 2:00, starts getting cloudy and it will be hazy again today. mid to upper 40s here. 30s and 40s. very little wind. even in the foothills, very little wind.

cuts up through montrose over the colorado river. look for temperatures in the 40s today. 50s down south. 30s and 40s in the mountains and west. again, the cold air out of this system doesn't get into the state until friday. partly cloudy. hazy day. mid-40s for us today. we'll go down into the 20s tonight. the snow starts developing early tomorrow morning. they will be some melting with the snow tomorrow. so an inch or two light snow. snow sticks better on friday because it's colder. another inch or two and light snow showers on saturday. we're going to have to get our winter driving hats on, amelia. >> we're ready for it. getting out across our drive today, busy start downtown with a hit and run rollover accident. that's completely clear, but we're now getting word of a car that just went into the ditch e470 near the i-70 interchange out to the east. so far it sounds like everything should be off to the shoulder.
