country. >> south carolina governor nikki hailey gave the republican response. she is the first minority and first woman governor of south carolina and is a potential contender to be a vice republican nominee. she had a heavy dose of criticism for the president. >> as he enters his final year in office, many americans are feeling the squeeze of an economy too weak to raise income levels. we are feeling a crushing nags national debt. a healthcare plan making healthcare less affordable. cities. even worse, we are facing the most dangerous terrorist threat september 11.

waters in the persian gulfs. both boats drifted off course. once they were taken to shore, the ten americans were turned over to the revolutionary guard. acknowledged it was an accident and the ten americans would be released back to the u.s. come morning. and now to that breaking news of a house fire in southwest denver where one were injured. victoria sanchez joins us. the man who died in the fire was bedridden. >> reporter: yes, the family who was outside of this fire once the firefighters put out the flames toledos man in his 40s the man had multiple sclerosis and was unable to get out as the fire tore through the house. his elderly parents in their 70s were able to get out with the help of firefighters. a viewer shot in from the backyard. he was sitting down to dinner and awe is flames coming out of

when he went over, he saw neighbors trying to get the people out with firefighters. they suffered smoke inhalation. one was treated at the scene. another was taken to the hospital. the fire went beyond the roof line as you can see and neighbors were trying to get people out. the elderly man who was in the hospital right now as firefighters were taking him out of the second story window, he fell down and suffered a head injury. the smoke made it difficult for them to go in. >> at one point, the fire was so significant, the firefighters thought they were going to have to back out for their own safety. but through the efforts of the denver fire department, we found two of the victims have been removed and transported to hospitals. we found one deceased victim. >> i went to the backyard, there was the whole back, flames going up the house.

there were firemen in the backyard. they had ladders up getting people out of the house. >> reporter: firefighters are investigating this. to see exactly what happened. we are told it started in the basement. it moved its way through the next two stories. firefighters when they arrived they put ladders to the windows but the leaders were unusable as the flames shot out through the windows and well beyond the roof line. the family says they are grieving right now as the person in their 40s had died and they are hoping the two elderly people survive the night. >> thank you victoria. after 21 years, los angeles will again be home to an nfl team. this evening by a vote of 30-2, nfl voters approved allowing the rams to enter the city. the chargers have an option to move in with the rams. the oakland raiders are staying

if the chargers reject the option to go to la, the window will open once again for the oakland. sam got his wish to move the rams out of his hometown of saint louis. the city tried to convince the nfl of blocking the move. the win means the rams will play in a new stadium in englewood, washington close to lax. the chargers were hoping to go to a different stadium site along with the raider sos the nfl is going to give the rams and the chargers one year to work out a deal to share the rams stadium. or else the chargers are stuck in san diego. the rams and the chargers shared the la coliseum for one year in 1960. looks like the rams will be back at the coliseum again for three years as their new stadium is built. in the last year, drivers in colorado have seen a huge drop in what we pay at the pumps. the current average is 1.85.

as you can see in this chart, colorado's grade is going below the average. the drop in gas prices goes back to the low law of supply and demand. there is so much crude oil and weak demand in china. oil dropped below $30 a barrel today. something it has not done since december of 2003. oil prices have been down every single trading day so far in 2016. falling nearly 17% so far. it is down 80% since the high it hit in 2008 when we were paying $4 a gallon for gas. one group says this week oil could go all the way down to $10 a barrel. that news leading to changes in the energy industry. bp plans to cut 4,000 jobs because of falling oil prices. >> oil and gas is a $37 billion a year industry here in colorado.

ongoing price decline will mean for them. >> reporter: oil is in an all- out free fall dropping from $90 a barrel to just more than $30 a barrel tuesday. it is enough to make you wonder if the industry is starting to panic. colorado oil and gas association president dan hailey. >> when a commodity price drops you have a challenging time. you will see restructuring of companies. tightening of jobs. >> reporter: in 2015, about 2,000 people lost their jobs due to falling oil prices. >> we are not seeing the layoffs we saw in the 1980s but again, we don't know where the bottom is. >> reporter: hailey adds oil field services is the hardest hit sector. in december 2014, 77 rigs were up and running. as of last friday, there were just 22.

we had a wonderful view from our tower camera at sports authority field. the pink, the purple, the blue. check it out. a great picture of the just vibrant pink color off on the horizon this evening. they almost look like water color paintings. also reminding us how cold it is. speaking of cold, look at gunnison's high winds. 45 in denver today. that is pretty good for mid january. weld county temperatures held in the mid 20s . we were watching the wind in the foothills. closed i-285 because of blowing snow. while the winds die down, they will return tomorrow. dia reporting 29 degrees. winds are light out of the east, southeast. a light breeze here in the backyard, we were returning just a little milder than dia. temperatures falling now as skies are starting to clear.

our snowier months on average. seven inches of snow. we are halfway there. but, with an active weather pattern that will see a series of weather systems cross our state from the northwest throughout the weekend, we may add to the number a little bit. high wind warning out. winter weather advisory out. the areas shaded in blue and beneficial rain for northern california. and alberta clip sore creating all kinds of problems. snow, wind, treacherous driving conditions. we have windchill advisories from minneapolis and cincinnati and heavy know and wind across many of the airport hubs in the northeast. that low is just chugging along. high pressure over the area will keep the storm north of us one more day before the storm system to the west moves in. with the jet stream to the north of us for now, tomorrow probably is the warmest day of the week with high temperatures above average. but notice how the jet is taking the cold arctic air right through the midwest into the great lakes. bismarck 33.

high thin clouds coming in from the northwest. winds picking up along the foothills. but there are no wind advisories posted. there may be some areas of blowing snow. the canyons, the higher passes but the snow is going to hold off in the north and west of the high country until probably late tomorrow or thursday. gunnison, 20 below. seven below in leadville. 12 in greeley compared to 22 in colorado springs, 21 denver. not too shabby for january. mid 40s low 50s to low elevations. 30s in the high countries. decent travel weather. skiing snow boarding conditions are great. we will freshen up the snow pack a little bit with this current weather pattern that sees the first weather system in thursday night. this night dry. partly cloudy. 21. windy along the foothills. the winds will dye down only to return tomorrow. low 20s in the morning.
