this is 9news. people who lives and work around 17th and glen arm in downtown denver may notice a lot of commotion today. earlier police were forced to close glen arm from 17th to 18th while investigating an auto theft. police say a vehicle was stolen near the 1400 block of del gainey in denver and was recovered there on glen arm. police say the suspect was last seen running into a parking structure there so they set up a perimeter, did a sweep of the grauman, didn't find him -- garage, didn't find him so that perimeter was lifted. still an active investigation going on. police did say nobody was injured. hi, everybody. good afternoon, thank you for joining us on 9news at noon. i'm kyle dyer. we are in the newsroom again today because our brand-new set still being constructed and it will be probably until the first week of march before you see it. this is our digs for now. up in the high country today, they are getting ready for some more snow. right now they are getting a break from it. you can see that blue sky up

shot from the tunnel area, thanks to our cdot cameras. all the new snow heading that way, is great news for the resorts. here in denver a lot of sunshine as well. the snow was really never that bad in the metro area this morning. light snow did fall but the roads remain pretty clear and uneventful. but as we said, it's not over for the mountains. becky is in the back yard with the latest on what they can expect. >> reporter: we are expecting a new round to come in. that's going to be arriving tonight out across the western slopes and it's going to be late. let's take a look at where we stand right now. outside of course lots of sunshine, helping to melt off a little bit of snow that we did see here across the front range. temperatures are in the 30s and 40s, 43 near downtown, 45 around greeley, 37 in ft. collins, estes park 33, blackhawks 35. down to the southeast it rained between 1/2" to 2 inches of snow. little bit more across our

inches of snow accumulate from the latest system. now out of here pushing over the midwest but still going to see one watch sitting across the state and that's the flash flood watch for parts of the gunnison river due to an ice jam. next system is scheduled to arrive, as i mentioned, late tonight. the other one still pushing out over the midwest bringing more snow and more cold. we are not only expecting clouds from this one here in the denver metro area, they will be on the increase tonight and if we get any snow it's going to be late tomorrow afternoon and into tomorrow evening and it looks like it's just flurries but we will talk a lot more about that coming up and we will talk about the bigger changes that this next system brings for us which could be wind and chilly temperatures combining to possibly be a pretty cold middle of the week. kyle. >> thanks for the warning. we are learning more about how those american prisoners released by iran were treated during their time in captivity. nbc's keir simmons reports

>> reporter: this morning jason rezaian is enjoying time with his wife and brother. he asked about his baseball and basketball teams over dinner. >> he was tracking them in prison. >> reporter: in that notorious iranian prison, jason says at one point he spent 49 days in solitaire confinement, his only exercise in an eight by 8-foot concrete yard. amir hekmati reunited with his sisters and brother-in-law describes being tortured by iran's revolutionary guards. >> reporter: psychologists at this u.s. base are assessing the men's state of mind, a representative of free prisoner aside said abedini -- one another man, former fbi agent iran. iran consistently denies knowledge of his disappearance and offered to help in the

at one point the iranians even tried to stop jason rezaian's wife and mother from leaving iran with him according to the family because he and amir hekmati undergoing medical evaluation here. but both physically and spiritually, they are doing great. bond for the man accused of shooting people in lakewood will stay at half a million dollars. he attempted to have that today. mila mason was one of the fbi's month. he's accused of a bank robbery, carjacking and shooting. thorton. the other two suspects referred already in custody. it was an unforgettable ride for a denver school bus morning. the bus driver took a wrong turn near east union avenue and

backed up into a tree near an apartment complex. about a dozen kids were on board at the time of this. nobody was hurt and another bus was brought in to take the kids to school. denver police say that the driver could be cited for careless driving but that's not been decided yet. this was the driver's first day on this particular route but she is, we are told, a veteran driver. this is the last full week of the national western stock show and today for some kids who can't make it out to see the rodeo in person, well, the rodeo came to them. i'm talking about the patients over at children's hospital colorado in aurora. amelia earhart is there. >> reporter: we are here at children's hospital in aurora for the second annual rodeo experience put on by the orthopedic institute here at children's and an amazing event that has kids of all ages and all types of patients here enjoying a very different type of rodeo experience, one that they probably don't get to experience very often but because of jason and jen, they get to. tell us your background here at

this event is all about. >> i work here at children's hospital colorado, i'm the director of orthopedic trauma and we -- my wife and i have been heavily involved in rodeo, i used to ride bulls when i was younger and now we team rope and basically it's a wonderful sport, it's near and dear to our hearts and we wanted to start something where we could bring the rodeo to the kids that can't go down to the stock show and see the rodeo. >> reporter: right. >> so with a lot of the help from our friends and lots of volunteers and numerous sponsors like gila mat tick -- helomatic and fast back and wrangler and cinch, they have donated stick horses for the kids and all sorts of t-shirts and gloves and all sorts of things and it's just been -- we started it last year and it's been something that's been really fun. the kids had a blast last year, so we turned it into an annual

year. see. you're bringing the stock show here to the hospital for the kids. jen, what's your background? because i understand you have well. >> yes, i was miss rodeo tennessee many years ago and it was very important to me to bring this to the hospital because, you know, my husband works here. we want to share our lifestyle with these kids. these kids can't get down and go to the stock show, they are sick, fighting their battle so all of our friends and all of our good sponsors have helped us put this event on annually and have dedicated themselves to this event and it means a lot to see these kids get out here, have fun with rodeo queens, have fun with the contestants, have fun with the roping and the barrel racing, get some goody bags to boot and brings a smile to their face. it takes them out of that hospital setting and puts them in a fun, don't have to think about your health right now and just have a good time. >> reporter: right. well, we have so enjoyed watching the kids dance around and play.

you know, here in denver we are so lucky because we can have some colder days but if the sun is shining it makes such a huge difference and that's what we are seeing right now, temperatures really warming up quickly because the storm from this morning has quickly moved out over the midwest and we've got full sunshine, full sunshine right over the city and over boulder. we are going to stick with that now for basically the rest of the day but you're still going

on the weather map. it is a flash flood watch. no, not because of rain but because of an ice jam. it's along the gunnison river near estes ranch and the fear is if that breaks loose and moves downstream, the gunnison river levels to raise from five time. that watch in place at least through tonight. right now 37 in ft. collins, 41 in broomfield and 43 in denver. outside 9news we've got the sunshine and our current temperature cooler sitting at 36. now, across the state we don't have much going on, at least as far as snow goes but we have a lot that's further out to our west with a lot of rain coming onto the coast and that's our next system that will be approaching colorado tonight. late tonight. i'm talking 11:30, it will start to edge onto the western slope. then move in toward northern, central and southern mountains by early tomorrow morning. we will get an increase of clouds and some more wind around here in denver, but if

to hold off on any chance for flurries at best until tomorrow evening. as far as the rest of our forecast goes, this system has a bigger impact with temperature and, like i said, with wind. it actually gets a lot stronger as it moves over colorado, taking some of the cold air down in from the north and then continues to intensify as it pushes out towards the east coast where we have a bigger potential for a stronger snowstorm. our forecast for snow a little bit calmer around here. 43 our high in denver today, no snow, 36 here for greeley, 39 for ft. collins. we will be in the 30s and 40s in the plains with 30s up in the mountains. we are going to have skies continue to clear with mostly sunny skies throughout the remainder of the afternoon and winds out of the north at five to 10 miles per hour. tonight clear and calm, we drop to 23 in the city, then breezy tomorrow, 46 our high on wednesday, thursday right now looks pretty dry but it will be windy and colder with a high of just 38. so that's going to make that 38-

this and say the world tennis association leaders have turned a cheek to this deep-rooted corruption. there is no word which players have done this. and upon hearing the news roger federer says it's time to name names. these allegations were leaked from a tour investigation from 2007 which showed max fixing by syndicates in russia and italy. tennis officials are defiant and rejecting the suggestion that evidence of match fixing has been suppressed or ignored over the years. with so many breaches into our identities, consumer groups are looking always for ways to help. erika gonzalez talked to one of these organizations that says simply monitoring your credit may not be enough. >> reporter: it is called freezing your credit. it's not new but when the u.s. pirg or u.s. public interest research group calls it as a way to protect their identities in this report, it caught our attention. >> why would you only want to detect a new account being

there's a way to actually prevent it from happening in the first place? >> reporter: there are three named credit reporting agencies and we have told you for years how you can monitor your credit by getting a free credit report from them but that may not stop somebody from opening up new fraudulent accounts in your name. >> the only thing that credit monitoring does at its best is let you know after the fact whether somebody has opened a new account in your name. >> reporter: putting a freeze on your credit can last as long as you like and you won't get dinged for it. there is a cost associated with it depending on your state in the between three to $10 to freeze your credit and another two to 12 to unfreeze, let's say when you need a new line of credit reporting agency experian wants you to remember you've got to lift the freeze before you need the new line of credit. lit says you don't need too much time, though. >> the longest it could take is three days, but our experience

can happen online within 15 minutes. >> reporter: while a credit freeze won't stop bad guys from stealing your personal information that's already out there, such as existing credit cards and accounts, it can stop criminals from opening new accounts. >> and the internal revenue service is also providing additional measures for online security while e-filing your taxes this year. that's how they anticipate about 80% of us will file. the irs says they expect this year more than 150 million people to file returns. the good news for procrastinators is you have until monday, april the 18th to file your 2015 returns because the emancipation day

people who live there very on edgy specially if they have dogs and cats and other animals. right now matt matt renoux is heading there to get the story. a man who was paralyzed during a run on keystone mountain's terrain park returned there this week to the very place where the accident happened two years and one month ago. mike shaw did not just return to the mountain. he skied. he brought someone very special with him too, his orthopedic surgeon whom he credits with helping him recover. dr. thomas pushek thought shaw would live the rest of his life as a quadriplegic, well, saw thought the same thing after the crash. >> i didn't lose consciousness or anything like that and i had no movement from the neck down. it wasn't until after the surgery that i could open and close my elbows a little bit and then i had a bit of hope to think that i might get better. >> that is a miracle. shaw was able to regain the

again after a lot of rehab. on instagram shaw actually posted a photo of him and his surgeon with a caption that says, in part, he is sincerely grateful for the opportunity to ski again and to conquer his that is awesome. that's just great. as we wait for the two remaining winners of last week's record setting powerball jackpot to come forward, today we take a look into the life and how it's changed for a tennessee couple who hit it big. this is john and lisa robinson, they revealed their winning ticket on friday. we are talking $528 million for the couple. so the "today" show followed them to nashville where they validated their ticket and with their new found fame they say privacy is a big time struggle right now and the enormity of the win is sinking in now. >> i love my hondas and i can't even drive my own car right now. >> we are very private people. >> my friends, they want to come see me and i can't -- they can't come see me right now.
