they are not saying who she is or the motive. dsd is warning at firefighters to be on alert as a precaution. late this afternoon we learned more about the investigation into a commerce city police officer accused of lying about his shooting. officer lord said a gunman opened fire at him, a bullet hit him in the chest and they gave credit to the bullet proof vest, it quickly unraveled, documents obtained might explain why. tests confirm kevin lord was shot with his own back up weapon. detectives took the 40 caliber handgun and linked it to a bullet in lord's vest and a shell casing at the scene. lord faces charges of attempting to influence a public official and misdemeanor charge of false reporting. the most dangerous thing many of us do each day is get in a car. c dot's new traffic fatalities back that up.

nick mcgill explains why. >> according to data from the colorado department of transportation, colorado roads fatalities in 2015. >> 2015 there has been a spike colorado. >> trending in colorado for highway deathicize mostly down from a record of 743 in 2002 but the 10% increase for 2015 was the highest the state has seen since 2008. >> we are down over the long term but the latest increase has us concerned. >> 30% of the crashs involve drivers under the influence of alcohol. another 50% involve motorists who weren't wearing seat belts which c dot says is a large areas. >> hat is a huge concern. we know we could save 60 people buckling up. >> he said other contributing factors include lower gas prices population.

monday, charles pierce is 42 and they say he stabbed his exgirlfriend in the abdomen at her home in massachusetts street. she is expected to recover. pierce may be driving a purple toyota rav 4 with the license plate 585-ylw. he has tattoos on his body and face. if you see him or know where he is, call crime stoppers, 970-221-6868. republicans in the state legislature are introducing a bill to make it easier to sentence convicted murders to death. colorado requires all 12 jurors to decide life or death. the new bill would lower the requirement to a decision of 9 of the 12 jurors. supporters say the unanimous decision is too high a bar. we reached out to governor hickenlooper's office for his stance. the governor is opposed to the death penalty. the east high school student who sparked a gun square last month will transfer schools, elhadji samba dioum is

mountain lions prowling near people this year. in red cliff, south of vail, they have been seen in the town streets. 2 dogs were killed there last month. here is matt renoux. >> in the small town of red cliff, you will see as many snow mobiles as cars on the street and town administrator barb smith says in this remote location, wildlife, including mountain lions have become a common sight. >> seeing mountain lions outside the town. >> but this winter the mountain lions are seen on the streets. >> much greater activity than we have ever seen in the past. >>... and more and more coming into town. >> very nerve-wracking for a lot of people in town. >> this month 2 dogs have been eaton and with kids playing nearby... >> a lot have dogs and kids. >>...

denver is one of 10 u.s. cities ready for the future says dell, the company has what is called the future ready economics model, it uses 3 criteria, the ability to attract people who innovate, businesses that thrive with collaboration, and infrastructure, they worked with ihs economics and found future ready cities will grow faster the next 5-10 than most others, san jose, san francisco, and washington dc topped the list.

a trend among millennials, more adults ditching the driver's license, less than 77% of people 20-24 had a driver's license in 2014. that is down from 82% in 2008 and 92% in 1983. the institute has a couple theories. cars becoming less important as ride sharing services like uber and lift gain popularity. analysts say new vehicles are less affordable for recent grads dealing with debt. edmonds.com said the average price was more than $33,000, up 20% since 2005. a new study suggests some theirpies and medications for those with parkinsons is not working, studying 800 patients with mild to moderate forms of the disease and did occupation and physical therapy. that treatment, which is widely used, did not improve the

hi, there, i am meteorologist daniel daniel in the 9 news back yard. this morning waus classing colorado-- was classic colorado day, kicked off with snow and blue skies. tonight mostly clear as temperatures with cooling, we are getting ready for the next storm system to move in. it will be moving in overnight, primarily with the heaviest snowfall around the high country, northern and central mountainwise wild wind s coming from the plains, 29 at the airport. winds southeast at 10 miles an hour making it feel a little cool. 20 degrees, if you are heading out, grab a jacket, you will thank me later. we are looking at 34 degrees in the 9 back yard. all eyes to the west where the next storm system is pulling through. the one that brought half inch around here plowing through st. louis. moving to the midwest the next storm system gathers more steam. you can see how huge it is,

idaho, and swinging back through las vegas as we bring in rain, snowfall across the cascades and much of the inner mountain west. in colorado, we are still in this little lull, waiting for the moisture to stream in. right now pulling into salt lake, park city area looking at plenty of powder. the winter weather advisory will kick in midnight tonight as the storm system gets closer through midnight tomorrow. 2-5 inches in craig, meeker, steamboat springs south through vail, aspen, 5-10 additional inches on top of what we have already seen the past couple daysism not only will they be looking at the snow but they will see gusty winds, blowing and drifting snow might be a problem i-70 as well. this evening, we are quiet, clouds start to stream in around the metro area midnight or so. the snow staying west. west of the continental divide. even early tomorrow morning we will wake up to a few clouds around here but it should stay dry.

and i had to throw it in there. just an isolated flurry here and there. 40s for most of the eastern side of the state. we will be 50s in lamar, pueblo, springfield, trinidad. 20s and 30s around the foothills tomorrow with a warm up along i-25 but it won't feel like it with dusty wind. brief dip thursday and we start to soar friday, saturday, back to 50s with more sunshine before the next storm system moves in right in time for the broncos game sunday. hi, everybody, perhaps the toughest match up for the broncos on sunday isn't manning against tom brady but kubiak against belichick, new englands head coach might be the greatest of all time. kubiak needs to anticipate what his hoodie in the game.

the front cover of this week's sports illustrated magazine features peyton manning and tom brady. manning verses brady 17. there is an article predicting and advance to super bowl 50. pete rose who had a 44-game hitting street snapped in 1978 immediately after appearing on the cover of sports illustrated learned today he will be inducted into the hall of fame. the cincinnati reds hall of fame, later this summer. hard to believe he is not already in there. all right, i was-- i was looking at how good the bobble was. >> the table i have them on
