his days and a good number of people probably don't care. the shooter for the aurora theater shooting has been transferred out of colorado. steve staeger is here to explain. >> reporter: legal experts we talked to say this kind of transfer is not necessarily unusual. it is essentially a tray. we send one of our inmates somewhere and that state sends theirs here. it is done to move someone dangerous or to protect someone in danger. >> broken into a number of homes and he had raped people. >> reporter: denver district attorney mitch morressey remembers well one of the first cases he took on off taking office 11 years ago. the da remembers the one condition of his plea. >> he came to us and said that he felt if he went to the penitentiary for life, he would get killed there.

everything if he would recommend that he serve his sentence outside of the state of colorado. >> reporter: morressey agreed. the doc had the final say and agreed as well. >> for safety purposes, sometimes for the prisoner, sometimes the community. >> reporter: interstate transfers like this happen fairly regularly. >> and usually we will get just as bad a person or worse that will come to our penitentiary in the exchange made. >> reporter: the da gets it. sometimes a prisoner may still have ties in the community and could potentially have harm done to something. other times the prisoner is in danger themselves creating a bad environment not just for them but for others around them. then there is the issue of liability. >> i don't know if victims want to see the state of colorado paying a big check to a bad

>> reporter: he was transferred to wisconsin. they had to be transferred back to colorado and then to another state and kyle, we do not know where that is. >> very interesting system. all right, thank you steve. the students and faculty at csu wanted to help a basketball player who lost his parents in a fire. they can only go to funeral and related extenses. the grade school says the go fund me page set up for emanuel omogbo falls within the rules and the original $10,000 goal was met in a matter of hours. the amount donated is now more than $37,000 at this hour. anything leftover will go to charity. his parents, niece and nephew died in the fire, he was back

for the rams on the road in the air force academy. drew will have more on the game coming up. eric tate went back to work today one day after getting stabbed in front of the fire station. a woman randomly jumped into his suv at colfax and speer and attacked him. as the car rolled away with her inside, he ran back to the station. police arrested marlene rodriguez. >> reporter: it was very unusual. probably the scariest thing was being trapped. snow has made a mess of the roads in many areas. more than 150 crashes were reported in virginia this

usually, the president of the united states does not get stuck in traffic, but gridlock got in the way of his motorcade. it was after an inch of snow fell in dc. the big storm hits friday and saturday. it could bring one to two feet of snow to the dc area. the buffalo bills a breaking a gender issue. she spent seven years as a player personnel assistant with the jets. before that, was a game day special events intern and college scouting intern. for the second time in three years the patriots come to denver to play the broncos.

it is being found more and more in the u.s. several states now being brought here from latin american countries. doctors believe the virus spread in mosquitoes can lead to a severe birth defect in newborns. christine has more. >> reporter: it is a vicar spread by infected mosquitoes. it is on the ride in 14 territories and countries in jamaica, the home of the summer olympic games. this is prompting major concerns for health officials trying to get a handle on the virus. it is a lot like the common cold or flu for the average person. >> not a big deal if you are not pregnant. flu like symptoms, a rash, low grade fever, you feel bad for a few days after seven to ten days, it goes away. >> reporter: the primary

according to our 9news medical expert, it is being linked to a problem in babies called microcephaly causing small heads and small brains. in 2014, in brazil, there were 147 reported cases of it. then in 201, over 3,000 cases. the concern is cases of them happening here in the u.s. as a result of americans contracting the zika virus overseas. in the past year, the cdc has seen 12 reported cases of people who have come back into the u.s. with the virus including two pregnant women in illinois an one in hawaii which is why on tuesday, the cdc released new guidelines for women who are pregnant. federal health officials are urging pregnant women to consider postponing travel plans to any areas where the zika virus is circulating.

doctors to ask all pregnant women if they have recently traveled to a country where the zika virus is spreading. planning to travel overseas, be aware of the risk. >> if you are traveling and a woman of childbearing age, take precautions. think about the areas you are going to. if you go to an area where a lot of this is going on, think about changing your plans. >> reporter: if you are not pregnant or traveling to zika hot spots, there is no reason to panic. for pregnant women who have traveled overseas to areas with the virus, go to your doctor. the cdc is working to get the situation under control. dr. torres says it could be four years before there is a treatment for this virus. >> you mentioned the olympics which is six months away. >> reporter: if we are talking a dozen people infected in america right now, thousands of americans going overseas to brazil for this, if they bring

there is such a growing concern now to get this under control adele. >> sure. thanks christine. the pickton county sheriffs office looks into the report of a snow boarder knocked off a ski lift by a skier. they are confident they can find the skier. they are looking at surveillance cameras. deputies are reportedly interviewing witnesses who saw the incident. investigators told the newspaper the skier is thought to be a local resident. not a tourist. still ahead, could be the all time. the film that would go head to head in theaters with the next star wars movie. >> also, what you get when you mix the concept of stained glass windows with an igloo. >> more snow in the mountains. danielle is watching what is coming our way. >> then a father and son try to make history and advance to the

>> for everyone who thought we had a ninth planet. it is not pluto. is it is one that no one has ever seen yet. scientist haves speculated there should be another planet at the edge of our solar system. researchers at cal tech have observed the gravitational pull of a very large object they believe exists. planet 9 may be ten times larger than earth. pluto recently called a dwarf planet by some scientists is a little less than 5 billion miles from the sun. the ninth planet is at least 20 billion miles away. star wars fans had to wait a long time for episode 7. they have to wait longer than expected for episode 8. it is being moved from may 2017 to december of the same year which will set up a matchup in

box office hits of all time. star wars episode 8 will be released just ten days before the sequel to avatar. star wars, the force awakens is avatar. at least at this point for the title of biggest global box office hit of all time. a college hockey player had some free time and some free ice on his hands. mitch fritz is an engineering student at saint john's university in arizona. he was given the idea to make a multicolored igloo. he bought bread pans and let colored water freeze. then he built his igloo. >> i thought i should go outside a little bit more. this is one way i could do it. here you have the entry way. very narrow. on the inside here. and kind of looks like it is

hour making it feel a little cooler. in the 9 backyard, feels nice with a jacket on. a nice chill in the air. 34 degrees and tomorrow, we number. believe it or not. go now. lake area. 25 for broomfield. again, a spot that has been pretty gusty all day long, 20 to 30 miles an hour gusts around the loveland pass area and also berthoud pass. as our storm system moves out, as well. here is the deal across doppler, one little brief storm pushing into parts of kansas. that was here earlier, now the storm system finally starting to fizzle out just a bit. we do have a little bit of light snow across south central colorado at i-25 through trinidad. steadier bands across the southeast plains. springfield picking up on that. we really haven't seen all that much this evening. a couple of flurries maybe here and there. but, nothing, nothing

as we go throughout the rest of this evening again, that storm system weakening even more by morning. might still have a few isolated pockets of snow out there. but i wouldn't count on much. around the metro area, you could wake up to a few early clouds. a brisk beginning. if you are leaving a house, grab a coat. not the puffy coat, but a nice solid coat to bring you throw the day. nice and warm. by 4:00 with the clear skies, the temperatures will stay in the 30s all afternoon long. by 10:00, two clouds out there, but this storm system will be moving packing its bags. parts of the deep south, the mid atlantic states. friday evening into the weekend, this will be a monster for parts of the eastern seaboard. we will see the warm moist air pull in from the gulf coast. cold air funneling in from the north creating the perfect battleground for seeing impress i snow bands from dc, baltimore. further to the south and severe coastal flooding as well as ice

they are seeing every kind of weather phenomenon out there. it will be a mess. two feet of snowfall within this purple little bubble. west virginia, virginia, and parts of maryland. it will be a mess. if you have friends, family out there, give them a buzz, make sure they are prepared. here in colorado, we will be cooling off to the teens and 20s in eastern colorado. some spots in the single digits in the mountains. around here, mostly cloudy sky to night. the winds still picking up out of the northwest. 10 to 20 miles an hour. nice day tomorrow morningful it is still a little breezy with the clouds out there, but by the afternoon, we will have some sunshine around here. and also, the wind not quite as bad. we will stay in the 30s for eastern colorado as well. western colorado much of the same. a few spots in the 20s . grand lake. and nederland with spots in the 40s along. high pressure builds back in. that will warm us up. makes it feel a little more like springtime around here. and the next storm system will

buffs lose by a final score of 95-83. you know, just because peyton manning and tom brady might not face each other in a football game ever again after this weekend doesn't mean they can't remain arch rivals. in fact, 9news sports night's drew expects to find them on the front porch engaged in a fierce game of chess 30 years from now. >> you see, even as old men, they are being nice to one another.
