12:00 pm
right now, a big day, in broncos country. our team is headed to the super bowl. lots of people are talking about it. it is in fact all of the talk here in denver. the coach gary kubiak is talking about it right now. let's go live to the press conference. >> it was a combination of everything. i think it was about effort. i think we worked really hard. all of us. bill does a great job. he and pug, with their packages inside. and some of the stunts. and those type of things. but when you go back and look at it, i think our get-off was the most important thing. we got off on the ball really well. >> when you watch the film, where is the game plan that you had for sunday, how does it rank? >> it was special. you go across the board, we couldn't pick a specific guy. we played great defense. so we have plenty of balls ball go around. we played a lot of manned coverage and linebackers
12:01 pm
give the players credit. we made them get rid of the ball but we held up. with the coverage, they did a great job underneath. and the big guy, he is amazing. but, you know, we hung in there all day. and making him get rid of the ball is a big factor. >> and the secondary, as you mentioned, you have the backers constantly outside covering go routes and i know you have great confidence in your defense but as a coach standing there -- >> when you see those go routes go up, and you see danny, and brandon, running down the field on those things, but that is what we are. i mean that is the type of aggressiveness we play with. you made a comment, watching k. o. come in, bush come in, when we lost stu and tj, coming in and what a gutty onside kick. and they all worked together. >> how important is it for you to tell the players to get all of the business of going to the
12:02 pm
>> well, i just start by saying this. you know, we got started on that stuff this morning. very impressed with how organized everything is already. so i mean that just tells you what that organization is all about. but what is important. you know, i know the years that i have had the opportunity to go, you want to get all of those things taken care of so you can focus on fobble. so our organization is on top of it -- football. so our organization is on top of it doing a great job already. >> going back, i know two years ago, with the broncos super bowl, you weren't here, but things you shouldn't do again but -- adjustments based on what happened a couple of years ago. >> i don't do that. i will go with my experiences that i have had going. i have been a part of different forms of preparation to play in this game and i had my mind made up on the way i think we should do it. i will stick to that. but you know, there is all kind of ways to do it. but the bottom line, you are going to have to play a great football team and are you going to have to play great to win. that is part of it. part of it. that together.
12:03 pm
our players have done a great job with that. >> and you need every bit of two weeks to prepare for cam newton and the team? >> it is a little different. it is really great how they have set it up, so their talents, offensively and what they are doing. so coming off of last week, you know, for defensively, going into this game, it will be, you know, very much a different type of look so to speak. so we can use the extra time. defensively. and they are really good on defense. teakly runs the show and an mistake fire. but -- and an amazing talent. >> and i see a big football team and a challenge. >> and owen daniel, coming in here, can you to the value he brought and not just production- wise but to the offense and the team. >> he is a pro. i think i said this to you before, when you asked, as a coach, when you bounce places, these guys come up, and sometimes, you know, you got to
12:04 pm
are certain guys you have no doubt standing up for putting them on the team. and he is one of those guys. he went with me to baltimore and plays extremely well and really big in the playoffs for us last year. a pro. he works at it. it is important to him. and i knew he would fit in. so proud of him. >> one of the things, his production really rose, when vernon showed up, and that is the dynamic there? was it just numbers? >> i think the fact that we can put them both on the field right now. that's what helps. i know vernon, i think he only plays somewhere between 12 and 15 plays yesterday but just the fact that we have been able to get back to two-tights and those types of things which has left us for a period of time through injury has helped us out. >> with tj and zairian, zaire -- darrian, how are they doing today? >> i really don't flow. i think they are doing okay. and let's take it a day at a time. i think they are both having a chance to be there in force in two weeks. but we will go a day at a time
12:05 pm
>> john, was talking about you had the hottest of seats when you took this job. did you have any reservations already 12-4, and quarterback was getting up there, that you know, maybe there wasn't a whole lot of up ward -- >> no, because of where i was coming back to, you know. that's what meant the world to me. to be an opportunity to be a part of this organization again. and knowing what type of football people were running the organization. i guess some people could look at it that way. i think it is a good thing. there are some great players here. and as a coach, that's where want to be. good football people all around. and the history of the organization. you know, that was easy for me. >> and has it felt hot? >> it is always hot in this business. >> and gary, with any quarterback you have faced this season, he is a one-of-a-kind talent? >> that's a good point. i don't know if we have faced a dual threat guy like him this year with our schedule.
12:06 pm
we played him last year when i was in baltimore. but no, it will be different for us. having to tackle him, out in the open field, having to defend the quarterback run, and those types of things, will be something different for us. nice to have a couple of weeks. >> the conversations that you had with peyton, as the season went on, we talked about how -- well, what is the word to describe it, was it difficult, awkward? >> no, they were good. i mean they were very good. i would say they were tough from a standpoint of him physically trying to get himself back to that point. and then, i guess the point i was trying to make yesterday, somebody asked me that question, is i knew how our conversations went, and as he was working his way back and i also know how the conversation went about seven or eight days before san diego, when i watched him work out and watched the way he was physically and the way he talked to me. that was the point i was trying to make, that i knew he was back, ready to get back in
12:07 pm
>> and talking about benjamin, with the outside, and a tendency to write it off when one of the best players is lost, is that galvanizing you guys? >> i think that happens a lot in this business. there is no telling who is making the play. bubba is making a play early in the game and with kansas city, you look at them, i think teams, they don't focus on one spot, where this guy has to win or we have to do this. it is all a matter of we have to all get the job done. and you look at them, and to me, you talk about team, that's what they are. i mean they are built across the board very well. and mr. getleman has done a great job. i have great respect for him. he was here with us for a long time. so they are a hell of a football team. and that's where they are at. that's why they are where they are at.
12:08 pm
and is that the way you are as a coach? and coaches seem to be sometiming more controlling or were you that way -- seem to be something more controlling or were you that way from the start? >> i mean you have to ask somebody else that. they do the work. i want them to trust themselves and you have to be about the team. that is something that we preach all the time. and i think, you know, i think that is about leadership. and our guys on this football team have done a great job of handling that. >> go ahead, jump in. >> gary kubiak talking to the local media a day after learning that the team is going to the super bowl. and he was asked, so how do you newton? and he is like i don't think we really faced anyone like him this season so it will be different. but we have two weeks to get ready. >> they may need those two he is describing the panthers it will definitely be a challenge for them he said. as for a couple of players who were injured, he thinks the two weeks might be enough time to get them back on their feet and said he always had faith in
12:09 pm
weren't awkward conversations when he was injured but he knew when peyton was ready to come back and get to work. >> it is exciting. it is quite the story, isn't it? >> absolutely. >> older gentleman in the game, and then cam newton. >> i am rooting for peyton for more than one reason. number. to the super bowl. if you are ink thissing about joining them -- if you are thinking about joining them, you will need a lot of money. tickets to super bowl-50 are more than 10 times the cost of most afc championship seats. sites like nfl ticket exchange and stub hub, tickets as much as $4,000 to $25,000. season ticket holders are random drawing. and if you are chosen, you will tickets. >> good luck. so earlier today, college view elementary school in denver was on lockdown because building. the lockdown though was lifted

suspect was taken into custody. apparently, this man showed up at the school, saying he was a volunteer. acting a little strange. no one recognized him. but again, he was taken away. and most importantly, the students and staff are all safe. and in littleton, a craigslist meeting took a deadly turn over the weekend. jefferson county deputies say a homeowner posted items for sale. and when two men came to buy the items, the sale turned into an armed robbery. the sheriff's office says the homeowner on south taft court was tied up but broke free and confronted the suspects with a gun. one man was shot, while driving away. and he crashed into a house. car. that man died a short time later. and another suspect is still out there, on the run. investigators believe that he is driving a gold mustang and may have bullet holes in the side. >> we've got crews working on that story for the day.
