4:30 pm
4:31 pm
all right. this much we know -- and we've known this for a long time. bronco fans are everywhere. one of the most famous faces that's a bronco fan was on this morning. >> kate -- >> you're a fan? i'm a big peyton manning fan and i grew up in colorado. when he found his way to the broncos, our whole family was excited. >> did you put that on before and after? >> it was on my snap chat. >> kate hudson was committed. she knew it was going to happen. kate hudson has talked about all the christmases she spent
4:32 pm
aspen area where goldie hawn and kurt russell have a home. hudson's tattoo is temporary, but she made the commitment before the game. >> kurt russell has actually called our newsroom before. i only know this because i answered the phone. this is kurt russell. >> yeah, sure it is. >> he had a weather question, he seemed happy. i think it might snow, kurt. >> okay. good-bye. thanks. >> i'm sure slackers get calls from famous people all the time. >> sorry, goldie hawn just texts me. who is a name dropper. come on. >> that was shameless, i admit. you know, the one time i answered the phone in the newsroom, and it was kurt russell. at first i'm going, oh, yeah, sure, good-bye. >> did he do his -- call me snake?
4:33 pm
>> i'm a big fan. i can't believe that. >> i think he called me cubby. >> have you ever seen somebody completely distracted when they're driving? >> yeah there. 's a story out where somebody is literally reading a james patterson novel on their ipad while driving. >> it's a good read, but, yes, engrossed. >> flipping through pages. >> didn't even notice the cop that was pulling over. >> hold on. i'm almost to a really good part. >> oh, my gosh. >> the things you see. >> foods that you're like, you cannot eat that in a car. it happens all the time. >> yeah. >> i like when they're driving with their news.
4:34 pm
>> how do you do that at 80. >> i watch tv shows. >> only when i'm stuck in traffic. >> he puts his phone where the horn is at and watches while he's in traffic. >> i wonder who was watching it like that, the the game. >> you don't leave the house during a bronco game. >> i agree. but what if? what if your wife is having a baby? >> you still don't leave the house. that's her problem. >> call me and let me know how things go. >> bye, honey. >> you are harsh. >> sorry, kim. >> we're getting the lowdown. >> he's going to tell you what for. >> have fun. >> all right. see you later. have a great day. >> see all the nice things we say about you on tv.
4:35 pm
we have to get right to this opponent, in my opinion. i couldn't watch in the last few minutes. everybody said they get to brady fast, quick, often. how do they do that with cam newton? >> he's a tougher one. they have not faced a quarterback like this all year who has both the option of running and passing. you know what happens when a quarterback runs, ordinarily -- here's a simple arithmetic on playing defense. ordinarily defenses have their eleven guys, and on offense, they really count ten. the quarterback, he is hands off, with cam newton, it's 11 on 11. that's one guy that you're not used to accounting for if you're defense. that's what makes carolina so tough, the fact that he'll run.
4:36 pm
you pass rush brady, it's stationary target, for the most part. with cam newton, he steps off, and there he goes. you're in trouble in several runningback too. i think he actually led -- i think he had a few more yards during the season. he was banged up at the end. cam can win the game by himself. alabama had won two straight national championships and were undefeated, and cam newton single-handedly defeated them. so nick saban spoke highly of cam as being a freak when he came out in 2011. it was interesting, 2011 draft, first player drafted was cam newton. >> and the rest of that class is really impressive. >> j.j.
4:37 pm
patrick peterson. there's going to be hall of famers in that draft. >> well, you talk about that, and we'll give carolina their due, but let's talk about the broncos and peyton manning. i hate when people keep focusing on that age thing. that really frustrates me, but at least a sense that he's really living in the moment right now. >> yes, he is. i think because of his age, look at it positively. favorite. i think people are -- people sense the end is near, so they're trying to hang on to what they have left of him. >> right. >> and good for bronco fans for that because they did have a special quarterback here the last four years. i thought when he was up on the stage there with the trophy presentation and he was talking about, you know, it's been a special four years here with these great fans, and it's a special year with this organization, to me, it almost sounded like something you
4:38 pm
so i do think he understands. and he dropped hints without saying it. he does stay in the moment. i think if he feels he gets outside of himself and creates this distraction like derek jeter did during the whole year. baseball is a different deal. you have all this dead time. you're trying to fill it anyway. football, everybody is so focused on the moment. even if he did make the decision, he will not say it during these two weeks leading up to the super bowl. >> it will be a special moment when we win. i know it's going to be a battle. >> going to be tough. this is the toughest team by far they've faced. now, carolina, you look at their schedule, and that nfc south is new orleans, lousy defense, you know, the tampa bay buccs have been a lousy team. atlanta falcons who did beat the carolina panthers this year.
4:39 pm
so carolina has not seen a defense like denver is going to give them in santa clara on february 7th. >> well, we'll sneak up on them and whack them and win. it will be a good thing. >> they like to be the underdogs. >> we tell peyton we spit on 39. whatever, keep going. >> big deal. >> no big deal. >> all right. our science guy is in the house. steve spangler. >> who's also 39. and it's national opposites day. we'll see what that has to do with steve turning up with a handful of money, and a powerful kitchen blender.
4:41 pm
-- balancing routine. look at that. look at that. it's just a magnet, ladies and gentlemen. it is national opposites day. i don't know what it means, but you're supposeed to can the -- to do the opposites thing. it's national opposite day. i thought about magnets but what about taking money and sticking it in a blender. let's start with magnets. there are many different times, we have bronco magnets. i have one you have to be careful of. >> will it stop my watch again. >> yet again. >> this is a neo -- it is a permanent magnet. i'm going to put this there. hand. it's okay.
4:42 pm
that's how it works there, sparky. stay there. this is rare. >> you're not going to have kids, but you're done. >> i'm not going to be a pitcher in the league. >> those are powerful magnet. in fact, it's powerful enough that we can find iron in the craziest places. take a regular old dollar bill. i like to find a crisp one. that seems to work well. if we hold on to this, i'm going to hold it still. a dollar bill is magnetic. if you get close with the magnet, even one of our bronco magnets will do it. we're detecting iron in the paper. >> why is there iron in the paper? >> i don't know. >> counterfeit. when you stick this into a vending machine -- >> that's counterfeit? >> no, no. >> oh, it would be if it didn't have iron. >> that's not the evidence we really need. >> no.
4:43 pm
get yourself a blender and put the dollar bill in there and then you just grind it up like this. so it's not a problem at all. use that to grind it up. now, a lot of people think they're going to jail. >> i only know him in passing. >> the rules are you can't deface money and put it back into circulation. everybody has been to the stock show. you put a penny in the thing and grind it, flatten it. >> but you keep it. you. >> you can't write on a dollar bill and put it into circulation. so take this, now, and you pour it into a zip lock bag. so i've sped the process up for you. here it is. so now, watch what happens. hold this on your hand. this goes here, put your other hand on top. turn it upside down, shake it like this. keep going, keep going, you're going great.
4:44 pm
4:45 pm

4:46 pm
in heavier bands, we could see about an inch. we have about a an hour's worth more snow. mainly to the south near castle rock. here is a look at the snow forecast that will take us through this evening. it's not any significant accumulation for the folks headed home. might need the use those windshield wipers. we'll have wet roads out there. all travel advisories continue across the state. remember the temperatures out there in some spots have not budged out of the teens, so that ice and snow is not going anywhere. for the rest of this evening, the skies will clear and temperatures will drop into the teens, and tomorrow the highs will be in the 40s from there, they keep going up, up, up. we're going to have temperatures in the 60s by the end of the week. it's going to feel a little more like spring. somebody sent an e-mail saying this is mother nature confetti. >> the broncos celebration. >> i like that. i think that makes prospect go broncos.
