we are told the deputy is in serious condition. whitney wild joins us from there. >> reporter: this started around 7:30. the deputy was not in uniform. he is fighting for his life with serious injuries. that suspect who was shot was shot by that off duty jefferson county deputy. he was shot in the leg. he is at the hospital and expected to be okay. police now on an intense man hunt looking for that other suspect. now, here is what we know. witnesses say that they heard gunshots. one man we spoke with said that the victim in this case was his mother's boyfriend. another man we spoke with says the moment he heard gunshots he heard about six. he ran outside and saw that jefferson county deputy lying on the ground. his gun to one side. his badge to another. he rushed to his side and held his head as he lay bleeding.

>> the other guy there called 911 and i held his head up. we put pressure on his wounds and talked to him. he said it hurt. where is everybody? i said there's people on the way. >> reporter: again, a very terrifying scene here, especially for that man who was shot. there are several agencies out here assisting. arapahoe county sheriff's office assisting. police on a seriously intense man hunt for another man. they have tweeted out the description for anyone in the area to keep their eyes peeled. we are going to send it back to you. >> all right whitney. we know the suspect described has a brown jacket and he is on foot in that area. whitney wild thank you. there has been a deadly development to a standoff between federal forts in a militia that took over a federal building in oregon. since the start of the year,

shots were fired and one person was killed. there is no information about the person that died. five people were taken into custody at one scene and another man was taken into custody elsewhere. among them is the group's leader ammon bundy. all those arrested will face charges of conspiracy to impede officers through force, intimidations, or threats. we are following a developing story out of seattle. several people have been shot at a homeless camp at the interchange between i-5 and i- 90. two are dead, three are wounded. that area is known to people in seattle as the jungle. the mayor was in the middle of a speech about seattle's homeless when he was told about the shooting. we will update you if we get more information on the incident. >> donald trump is boycotting the event.

moderator megyn kelly because she is biased against him. cruz want to go one on one with him saying trump could even choose the moderator. a substitute teacher at a denver elementary school is accused of trying to have sex with underaged girls. it was part of a sting operation in adams county. all face charges for child sex trafficking soliciting a prostitute. three of the ten are here illegally from mexico. two others hold positions of public trust. sura t patit works in colorado. he didn't have access to children, but is part of the investigation. they really need the public's help with the other arrest. david hocker is a teacher at warren village. there is a high chance he could be tied to other similar crimes since he worked at other schools in the past. we called warren elementary

a background check on him. but no one has gotten back with us. >> i have not talked to any of the add administrators at the school. it is very concerning and the reason we put that information on press release is so that people can know where this individual is sat. and there's not any speculation what school this individual was teaching at. >> ice didn't tell us where or how the sting operation came about. they can't release too many details for investigative reasons. three of the suspects appeared in court today. the rest includeing the teacher are expected tomorrow. a driver going at least 50 miles an hour struck a pedestrian penning him to the side of a wal-mart in lakewood. the man was waiting for a bus near sixth and wadsworth when the car hit him. he died after the crash. the driver is a man in his 8 0z

to a twitter account disputing reports but his daughter says he died in his sleep at her home in new jersey. abe vigoda was 94 years old. one of colorado's most best known natural features will get a new landmark. plans are in the works to build peak. city leaders in colorado springs say it is one there has outlived its usefulness. four designs were considered. one chosen was a design with a raised upper level and sweeping vista views. the architects say it will have titanic movement with a grand move from a point that is similar to the end of a ship. that is pretty spectacular. $20 million. no word on when construction will start. >> wow. police in fort collins take crime very seriously even when it come to the case of a stolen fish. they solve the case and it turned into a story about crime and punishment.

always gets stuck in the snow no matter what. after the last storm moved through her state, she ditched the horse for a different kind of horsepower. kathy sabine will love this. gabby saddled up her horse rascal and headed out into the snow. she thought it would be good exercise for rascal. one big problem, rascal doesn't come with headlights. while she made it to work, she had to leave early, otherwise, she would be wandering in a wood somewhere lost. she and rascal. >> take a flashlight right kathy? >> kathy? the 9 backyard. not too shabby for tuesday in january. did you see the sunset? if you missed it you are in luck. signs of the broncos orange everywhere you look. the sunset really spectacular up and down the front range. there's enough cloud cover just to make it interesting. sunset on the planes so we have a western theme to our weather cast tonight. our high temperature 42 is just a couple of degrees shy of 44. we came close to 50 in southeast colorado. we enjoy those 50s over the weekend with temperatures up week. but they will be rebounding and week's end. 27 at the airport. winds are southwest at 7. but calm here in the 9 backyard. clear skies, cold temperatures in the upper 20s across the urban corridor. i'll have to show you our storm is rapidly moving into the midwest. second low we are tracking in the gulf of mexico bringing showers for houston. wind and snow across the midwest to northeast. they are bracing for another round of wintery weather. still digging out from the weekend storm.

moving on shore in the pacific northwest. high pressure anchored where it is will bring a lot of precipitation and energy to the north of us. there is a quick little wave that just gives a glancing blow to northeast colorado. a few clouds, a bit of a wind shift. the wind and snow headed into the midwest. that's the trend for the next few days. warm dry weather settling in with temperatures trending above average. the cold air retreating into the midwest. boston, philadelphia, new york, bracing for more snow and wind. around here, no snow in the short term forecast. a few clouds coming in with that weak front that just kind of skirts across the northeast border during the day. a bit of a wind shift in the afternoon. a decent day up and down the i- 25 corridor and in and out of the high country on i-70 and the snow pack numbers are pretty amazing as well. so nice to have numbers like this headed into what could be another potential drought year for us.

know about all the powder up there. overnight lows, single digits, teens. mid teens in some of the areas. warmest readings found in southeast colorado. numbers running above average for denver out to the northeast corner. cool in the high country. but a nice day coming up. snow covered areas like bailey and idaho springs will range from 42 to 48 degrees for high temperatures tomorrow. forecast for you for tonight, we are calling for fair skies. light winds. cold low of 23. tomorrow, temperatures jump into the mid 40s . we will hover around 50 in the afternoon. a sunny day until the afternoon with just a few high clouds about. we come close to 60 for the second half of the week. there is a weak wave that may come in on thursday that may keep us from getting there. light snow coming in sunday night on what could be moderate snow and cold. for monday and tuesday of next week. i'm tracking a southern colorado low for early next week. a low february. stay tuned on that one.

team's emergency goal tender. semyon varlamov was back in denver attending a civil trial and calvin pickard was sick. so roy put the pads on in practice, but pickard started to feel better and the ads called up roman wilson. so pat ty got to wear a suit. he allowed the sharks to score a couple of quickies. avs trail 5-0 in the third now. strange but drew. cole janson of ottawa informed winger bobby ryan that dad promised a new puppy if he scores a goal. you know what happens next. ryan knocked a rebound in during a 3-0 victory over the new york rangers and with the exception of dad, all the jansons started to celebrate. strange but drew.
