it stretches from january 25th january 25th to january 30th january 30th. make sure you give an extra look as you're making right and left-hand turns, especially. there will be a lot of extra volume across our roads today. cory? >> amelia, thank you. a deputy is recovering after being shot. one suspect was arrested. another is on the loose. the shooting happened last night in a neighborhood adjacent to rangeview high school in aurora. 9news reporter noel brennan has been following this developing story for us. we're still trying to figure out what led up to this shooting. >> police say it was an attempted robbery that happened right before shots range out. it happened right here at the courtyards at buckley apartments. you may still be able to see the police tape crisscrossing here. police say this all started at 7:20 last night. a sheriff deputy was getting out of his car in the parking

him, and there was an attempted robbery. shots were exchanged and the deputy was hit multiple times in the chest and stomach. he hit one of the men in the leg. a man who lives nearby, he actually helped that sheriff's deputy until police arrived. >> another guy that was there called 911. i held his head up. we put pressure on his wounds and he said it hurt. it hurt. where the -- is everybody. i said there's people on the way way. >> police searched from the air suspects. they blocked off entire neighborhoods and put range high school on lockdown. there was a boy's basketball game going on at the time. suspect. the one who was shot in the leg. police say he's a juvenile, and his injuries are not life- threatening. as for the deputy, aurora police and other authorities have not released his name or age, any details about him

super bowl. manning has strongly denied any use of the human growth hormone, the hgh, and will continue to the so, i'm sure, next week. a wells county man accused of killing his wife has a hearing today. tom fallice was arrested in 2014, nearly two years after his wife ashley died in their home. the investigation originally found ashley killed herself in 2012. two years later, witness accounts and claims the evans police commander mishandled the case and fallice was arrested. an internal investigation revealed an officer failed to report information about that investigation. he's placed on leave. a victim was waiting at 6 6th and wadsworth when he was

the driver that crashed into a wal-mart told police there was a mechanical problem with his car that caused the crash. the people who shot into a homeless camp in seattle are still on the loose. this shooting happened last night at a homeless camp known as the jungle. last night at a police conference, they believe the victims were targeted. the mayor was told about the shooting right after he delivered a speech about homelessness. >> this is a tragedy. it involves homeless people. there is no simple answer. >> police say that they are searching for two persons of interest. we'll let you know if they release any information about this. it is just about 5:38. in money news, it was a very early morning for adams county leaders and those who attended a special hearing about oil and

clear they will not support a 10-month ban in early parts of the county. after eight hours of testimony, commissioners decided to gather more information from experts and hold another public meeting. last night's meeting was adjourned about 2:00 a.m. of course the adams county meeting was held a day after state regulators approved, giving some influence over where oil wells will go, as well as noise and emissions levels. they have not satisfied either side in this debate. colorado ranks 5th in the nation now for building for 2015. they say certified spaces use less energy and water and reduce carbon emissions. they were certified here in colorado last year. they include the plaza in denver. and the commuter rail maintenance facility in town as well. wear your seat belts.

cdot is putting some sobering facts behind those electronic signs you see over the highway. this morning cdot says the number of people losing their lives as they travel our highways is going up. and they want to send a clear message to drivers to please be safe. 9news reporter colleen ferreira is live at sixth avenue and union. colleen, cdot's new messages are starting today. >> reporter: they started just after midnight last night, cheryl. you can see them behind me on the board. usually we see weather related messages on these digital boards, but across colorado now, they're trying to make an impact on your drive. they're trying to get you to pay attention. let's take a look at what the first message is today. not buckling up, what is holding you back. you're going to see these across colorado every wednesday until further notice. 2015, these are from a preliminary analysis. it shows that 545 people were

that's up 12% from 2014. of those fatalities in 2015, 104 motorcyclists were killed. that's the highest they say on record. cdot says many motorcyclists were around. 56% were related to people not wearing seat belts. currently 15% of people don't wear seat belts in colorado's highway. if i can change one of your minds, buckle up, secure yourself in your car. cdot is wanting to impact you, your driving habits so you make a change and don't become one of these statistics. >> i can that's a -- i think that's a great idea they're doing that. >> today denver is picking up a tradition that's going strong in boulder.

the mayor thought he would be the perfect person for this position. he'll lead the national western complex into the year round campus with new focus. there's a consideration now that may save atlantic city, new jersey from having to file for bankruptcy. they will get more control over the mecca's finances. atlantic city is dealing with a lot of high debt and struggling industry right now. new legislation will be introduced and most say passed sometime in february. j.p. morgan chase rolling out what could be the next generation of atms, ones that do not require a debit cart. they use a smart phone app to make deposits as well as withdrawals. they trip it will withdrawal limit from $1,000 to $3,000. users can also withdraw 1, 5, 20-dollar bills. they plan the rollout sometime this year.
