>> i do, even though the storm system will move out rapidly, temperatures are finally starting to fall so the snow is sticking to the roadways and sidewalks and getting slippery. so far not overly impressive, the amounts coming in, not a huge storm for us so far but the storm slowed down as it digs into southeastern colorado, we expect to see the numbers increase, especially midnight to 6:00 a.m. in time for the morning drive. a lot of the snow was melting initially but that is about to change. winter weather and travel advisories are across 12 states. finally bringing heavier bands back towards the west into the city. we have been waiting all day for the easterly winds to develop. we are under a winter storm warning through noon tomorrow for additional accumulation in denver. probably in the 4-8 inch range on top of what you already received with heavy snow possible in the northern mountain and a winter weather advisory there. the heaviest snow will come in between midnight and probably

and then by the time the system winds down you could wake up to another 4, maybe 8 inches of snow on the ground in the morning. it will be icy and snow-packed. we are dealing with snow now, that snow and wind intensifying overnight and something we will detail in the main weather segment. we clear out tuesday but a lot are talking about the weekend and some football game so i guess i better talk about the california weather. >> i should read up on the football game. already the snow and cold is creating slick areas, c dot crews are on snow shifts, as kathy said more snow is expected overnight. 9 news reporter maya rodriguez and photoer journalist tom cole are on the roads to give us an update. >> reporter: right now we are on i-25 southbound, just south of colorado boulevard. the roads were pretty clear most of the day. the last hour the snowfall started to pick up and starting

it is very slushy but traffic appears to be moving pretty steadily. c dot crews are working 24 hours a day on the snow shifts and using chloride to provide ice building on the roads. the plows will come in and do their jobs, particularly in the mountains, southwest colorado, and potentially, they say, later on out on the eastern plains. >> they will be running until you see dry pavement. that means 12-hour shifts, there is a snow shift. you work for 12 hours, another crew comes in, they work 12 hours and they keep rotating through the storm for the next couple days, frankly. >> reporter: now for those of you who may be on the roads tonight or tomorrow, c dot has set up trackers in 800 of their plows around the state so you can see exactly where the plows are and where they are going, it is on their website and we put a link to that on 9news.com.

>> good to know, if you need to get somewhere tonight. thank you. a third of the flights at dia were canceled, 500. a lot of people forced to find a way to get here to there. security lines seemed to be moving well, 20 minutes from the start up to that machine that scans every square inch of our bodies. we in colorado know how to handle snow storms, that does not mean we are immune to the dangers, last months blizzard brought on dying from shoveling snow. >> reporter: you may not think it is extrenuous but it elevate your heart level to dangerous levels and that could create big problems for those shoveling snow, even a couple minutes, which is why doctors are urging people to be cautious as we expect more snow tonight into tomorrow. when you shovel snow you can

having a heart attack because theres say you are doing heavy upper body work in cold temperatures which can restrict blood levels and reduce blood supply. snow shoveling is the number one-snow related injury across the country. 200,000 are treated for snow shoveling injuries every year. most of the injuries are cardiac common. we had an orthopedic surgeon give us advice on what snow shovelers can do. >> people don't think it is a big deal. it is a little snow, i am going to move it, but it is a big deal. that is why we caution people that aren't in good physical shape not to do it and if you are going to do it, do it in limited amounts. >> reporter: dr. morgan also saying if you have heart or lung problems he really doesn't recommend you shovel at all. back out here live, significant change from what we saw an hour ago. there is snow beginning to stick

i am angry with the republicans because the republicans roll over and allow all of the stuff to take place and then they talk about, we are going to try and balance our budget in 25 years. 25 years? why 25 years? >> that has been key to donald trump's success so far in this race and when we talk about antiestablishment candidates, that is a crucial example right there. he talked a little bit about missing the last debate put on by fox news. it remains to be seen whether that will help or hurt him in the long run but we will have a better picture tonight. donald trump said ted cruz is bad for iowa and talked about the ethanol industry saying cruz would basically destroy it within 6-12 months. cruz and trump have been tempering expectations in the final hours in iowa. trump started his speech saying win, lose, or draw, i love you to his supporters. people in the crowd feel like donald trump is genuine and that he will push back on the status

on the hawaiian island of malachi, there is a fanatic bronco fan, and his family, their bronco blue house makes their passion pretty clear and it will be packed super bowl sunday. michael-- sorry, kahinu said his mom is from colorado and he was born bleeding blue and orange, what he calls island broncos headquarters for the game . >> this season we got on the field and we watched the bronco/vikings game and my first game i ever went to, blast. my son who was 10 years old is a fanatic now.

welcome back, meteorologist kathy sabine outside in the 9 backyard. we may only have 2-3 inches of snow on the ground from the less an impressive storm but it is picking up, the trend overnight, a fract frr the drive tomorrow. tomorrow. roads are wet and slushy but sticking snow with temperatures falling. we look at 4 models and they are trending between 4 and 8 inches

closer to 8 judging by the size of the snowflakes starting to pile up. not a huge storm for us, it is on the move. it is tracking to the east for the heavy snow and wind will become quite an ice storm east of north plat and omaha, the bulk may say east keeping us on the western fringe of the 4-8 inch additional total but it will impact the drive tomorrow. temperatures starting to fall tomorrow. icy and snow-packed roadways tonight and much of the day tomorrow. wind chill, 14. moderate snow falling and 27 outside the studios. snow bands starting to wrap around the area of low pressure pushing westward into the city. we have been waiting all day for the easterly winds to kick in. the storm slowed a bit. the areas in purple are where heavier snow bands are moving from the southeast toward the northwest. the whole area of low pressure will move quickly out but we remain under a winter storm warning through noon tomorrow for an additional 4-8 in denver,

feet of snow in the central and southern mountain with winter weather advisorys for the western plateau. the snow ends, avalanche danger will increase with heavy snow and wind anticipated. it will create severe weather across 7 sfats and the north-- states, and the northwest flow keeping a few flurries wednesday as well. moisture bands coming in, we have some of the heaviest snow falling midnight to 6 clk a.m. and then we have midmorning clearing and mid afternoon clearing but certainly a slower drive tomorrow morning than you endured today. system is out of here by lunchtime tomorrow. it won't be all that warm. forecast for you tonight, we remain under a winter storm warning for 4-8 inches of snow. tomorrow, we do have temperatures starting off in the mid teens, jump to lower 20s by the afternoon and don't warm a whole lot, even with that mid

a few flurries mid week, unsettled and chilly. low 50s saturday and heading into the early part of next week, temperatures will start to trend upward again. taking a look at the forecast around the area for the super bowl, still looking like sunshine and upper 60s for super bowl sunday. hi, everybody, the broncos team bus was involved in a minor fender bender this morning but hopefully none of the players mouths are involved in any accidents tonight. it is the first ever opening night event in super bowl history. formerly known as media day but they made it way cooler now. moments ago, introductions, that is new on the golden gate bridge. every player will be available for a full hour, which can be dangerous if you are trying not to say anything stupid or controversial. broncos go first followed by the panthers and we are live. 9 news sports report ror rod mackey is in san jose tonight. hi, rod.

forward to see if we get "i am just here so i don't get fined" quotes. they moved this to a night event and it is an event, not about interviewed but a circus, if you will going onfelt the biggest crowd-- on. the biggest crowd will be around manning, everybody asking about the last rodeo. when we left there were hundreds of cameras but because we have broncos insider, mike klis we didn't have to deal with the hundreds of cameras, one camera talking to peyton, one on one with him. what stood out to you about what he discussed? >> he opened about a variety of topics, the biggest was that he did talk about the fuss going on with what he will do, when or not he will retire. he talked about why, he talked to bill belichick the way he did at mid-field, he delivered the same message to tom brady, he
