delays are listed there - as well as on 9news-dot-com. most of the closures are on the eastern plains.... but the denver public schools that start at 8-30 are delayed an hour this morning. a teenager has pleaded guilty to hitting and killing a broomfield high school student in 2014. 16-year-old chad britton was standing next to a vehicle parked near the school when he was hit. he died at the hospital the next day. investigators say the driver smoked marijuana before driving. the teen is not being named because he was a minor at the time. a dramatic taliban hostage rescue earned a navy seal the medal of honor... and it was a man from colorado that he saved. chief special warfare operator edward byers.... is still an active member of seal team 6... so we don't have a picture of him. in 2012, he was the second person through the door

raided a taliban hide-out where a colorado doctor was held hostage. he protected doctor dilip joseph from gunfire... as he pinned a taliban fighter against the wall with his hand. byers will receive his medal at the white house february 29th. physician assisted suicide will be brought up once again at the state capitol today. a republican- controlled senate committee will discuss the bill today. a hearing in the democrat- controlled house will happen tomorrow. similar legislation couldn't get passed last year lawmakers, then, said it facilitates suicide in cases where a diagnosis may be wrong. a banner year for colorado car and truck sales. buyers registered 8-percent more new vehicles in 20-15 compared to a year ago. the full-year increase came despite a pretty big drop off in december. meanwhile, registrations of used vehicles rose nearly 6-percent. tim jackson, the head of the colorado automobile dealers association credits the full year

spread of zika a "public health emergency." the virus has been linked to thousands of cases of babies-- born with deformed heads and brains. that's why pregnant women are warned-- not to travel to countries where zika is spreading. the same goes for women who may become pregnant. ...especially with the latest discovery. the health department in dallas, texas is working a case of zika that appeares to have been transmitted through sexual contact. there have only been a few cases of that instance. so far-- all of the people in the u-s who have gotten zika-- had traveled to countries where the virus is spreading. for most people, zika virus causes flu-like symptoms. but researchers are also looking into the possibility that the virus is linked to another disease that causes paralysis. gary-- there is no

seven people! you may not have heard about the "whats app" because right now the majority of the users don't live in the u-s. facebook bought the app in 20-14. you can use it to make calls, send texts and lots more using any smartphone. finally a little bit of good news to report on the identity theft front. according to a new identity fraud study the number of people who became victims in 2015 was relatively unchanged from the year prior -- thanks in part to chip-enabled cards. but the bad guys are still out there and using stolen social security numbers more often to set up new accounts. new account fraud has more than doubled. and cold weather in the some parts of california and arizona has caused a cauliflower shortage in some places. many shoppers are having a hard time finding the vegetable at all. the u-s-d-a reports average retail prices for cauliflower has gone up 30 percent from last year. some shoppers say they've paid as much as eight dollars a head in recent weeks.

yesterday -- we got photos... but this might be one of our favorites. helen anderson. they are 89 and 90 years young and celebrating 65 years of marriage. their granddaughter sarah tells us they recently moved to golden from ohio. loren says he wants captions for the photo-- so he can send it to his ohio. deal with a lot of snow - these pups were happy to get out in it! a-basin held training for avalanche search and rescue dogs! about 20 dogs and their handlers worked on all kinds of skills from basic obedience to mock slides. an avalanche dog usually starts training at 8 weeks old.... and gets certified when they're a year old. these dogs will eventually go into service at a-basin, loveland, vail, monarch, copper mountain and beaver creek.
