the rules you have to follow now that the storm has passed. new information about a denver bronco player at a hotel during a prostitution sting. we're live from santa clara. >> cheryl, thank you very much. the melting won't happen for a couple more days. we're checking out the toughest spots across the area. noel brennan is checking out things. >> and our photographer is walking back and forth in front of the camera. amelia earhart is checking on the traffic. >> marty coniglio has the forecast. >> we may get a couple of flurries in for the foothills and scoot along c470 during the afternoon today. nothing measurable. it's certainly not going to help in any melting of the snow.

looking at the top of the tower of 9news over denver. we're seeing these calm conditions, which is a blessing after the blowing snow we had over the eastern plains yesterday. how things are shaping up right now, this is statewide. single digits throughout the east. southwestern colorado where we had so much snow between two and three feet of snow with this storm. we have high avalanche danger. again, many areas slipping below zero and with a couple more hours of cooling, we'll stay below zero. single digits for us, we don't break into the teens consistently until well after 9:00 this morning. as far as warmth today, very little of it. a few high clouds here and there. for most of us, it's a dry day. you will get a couple of flurries near the foothills, but we'll be in the upper 20s and low 30s at best. which means, amelia, the side

streets will not improve unless somebody goes out and uses a lot of elbow grease. >> i was feeling people's pain yesterday as they were working up a sweat. it was a heavy snow yesterday afternoon and into today. 24 at logan. i love this black and white shot. it shows just how smooth the freeways are. we're zipping in both direction, but the sheen on the shoulders shows areas, these side streets are going to be very slick throughout the day. highway 36 looking great. 20 minutes upper 50s for your speeds. the drive between broomfield and denver off to a nice beginning. same for other areas. 6th avenue and i-70. side streets out to the west side today. they're probably going to be some of the interesting conditions. boulder, use a lot of caution. for the most part, i like the start.

for a closer look at side streets, we'll look at noel brennan. >> reporter: hey, good morning, amelia. we're joining you from boulder at pine and 13th, giving you a look at what some of the side streets look like. take a look at pine street. the snow is pretty much gone, but underneath of that is a thick layer of snow. cars driving by here certainly have to take it easy. boulder is still really digging out from 16.8 inches of snow. a lot of it has accumulated on top of cars like this one. people have not had a chance to clear out their cars. make sure you do that, not only on your windshield and back window, but also the tops of your car. the top of your car. the you don't and you're driving, all of that blowing snow can be a hazard for other drivers. colorado state patrol says you might get a citation for having all of that snow on top of your car. also, if you can, clear out all of the snow from the sidewalk

they've done a good job here in this neighborhood. if you don't do that once again you might get a citation in denver and in boulder. you've got a clear away the snow from your sidewalk 24 hours after it stops snowing. if you don't do that and someone calls the city about it, you might be given a fine for that. so keep that in mind. take it slow. take it easy today. the snow is still on many of those side streets. and where it's been cleared cory. it's still a treacherous drive. >> it's not totally behind us. gary was saying, noel, you may want to get all that snow that you have person's car. i didn't say it. >> help them out. >> oh, man, if he's not cold enough already. poor guy. this is a live look at dia this morning, where it's

to the snow storm after two days of snow and wind today. that has moved on, but the fog persists. hurricanes of flights were -- hundreds of flights were canceled. today is catchup day, trying to get those passenger rest booked. hopefully that fog movers out quickly. you can use the the 9news app to find closures and delays. right now, we have 35 of them posted. some schools on the eastern plains are canceled today. denver public schools are delayed one hour this morning with a start time of 9:30. it is 5:35 this morning, one denver bronco is waking up back here in denver after he was sent home from the team. he's a safety on the practice squad. ryan murphy. he was questioned by police in a prostitution sting in san jose. 9news anchor joins us live from the team hotel.

that plane landed at dia shortly after 11:00 last night. nbc news confirms he was questioned and it was found that he was not related to any criminal activity, so he was released, but a local station was reported this morning here at the bay area that his brother was ticketed in that prostitution sting. murphy is a safety on the practice squad. he was not going to suit up in super bowl 50. he was at a motel 6 in san jose when police conducted that sting. again, a local tv station is reporting that murphy's brother and a suspected prostitute were both ticketed. we're working to confirm that for you. coach gary kubiak said although the safety was not cited by police, we decided it was best for the team if we continued our preparation for super bowl 50 without him. ryan, again, returning to denver. his status as a practice player

before the team left before the bay area, coach kubiak had a message to players. he said be accountable. he said he was not going to micro manage their down time but it was important to stay focused. the fact that they put murphy on a plane so quickly speaks to the fact that the broncos do not want any distractions ahead of super bowl 50. >> thank you, cheryl. another denver athlete is off the hook in a civil case. it ended in his favor yesterday. the avalanche starting goalie ex-girlfriend sued him, claiming he abused her. the jury found him not liable and instead, she should pay him in damages. her attorney plans to appeal. coming up today, president obama is going to make his first visit to a mosque in this country. he'll visit the islamic society of baltimore today. this comes at a time, as you

speech and deeds. president obama's message in baltimore will speak out against bigotry and reject indifference. a boy is being called a neighbor after helping his neighbors. >> i was sitting on the porch gas. >> he ran into his neighbor's house across the street and helped five people get out of the home. they're safe this morning. he noticed the flames were getting really close to the neighbor's house. so he hopped over the fence and got her out of the home as well. the family says they now see christian as their hero next door. >> boy, he's a hero for sure. the immediate crisis is over. chipotle is still dealing with a lot of problems associated with food safety. a previously disclosed criminal investigation is widening beyond a single restaurant in california. there was a noro virus outbreak over the summer there.

dropped 14% for the 4th quarter of last year after its food sickened dozens of people around the country. this is the first sales drop since the company went public almost ten years ago. there was a salmonella outbreak warning consume is about the likely source. eleven people in nine states have been reportedly affected by salmonella. the company is recalling that product voluntarily. so far one person has been hospitalized. consumers should stop using these products. a full list can be found at cdc.gov. snow flurries will be replacing in southern wyoming today. we'll update that in our next segment. right now, looking at clear skies over the plains.

cold readings across the state. all the way up into the arkansas valley where it's below zero this morning in around buena vista. early on in the day, we start to see a few clouds here and there. i talked about wind. wind gusts forecast today occasionally going 15-25 on the plains. about half of what it was yesterday and then late this evening we will begin to see the winds calm down. >> all right. sounds good. marti, thanks. >> -- marty, thanks.

anticipated and the snow on the ground. as we've said time and time again, amelia, you don't need a lot of snow to have a blizzard. just a lot of winds. >> i-80 is open at this point and all of your roads in colorado are open headed to the north as well. even with those conditions as well, it still looks like it is passable for the time being. also passable is 225 and parker road. people are a little cautious this morning. it's an icy start. as for our eastern plains, still a couple of closures as well. north and southbound between cheyenne and -- closed this morning. same for colorado and carson.

they're practicing on stanford's campus. john elway's mall matter. there are a -- alma mater. santa clara university, just five miles away, in fact. ironically, they're the broncos too. it turns out it's twice the fun for the colorado kids who are students there at santa clara. it is easy to spot them. they all got together at their bucky statue and show off their denver broncos pride. they all have some team garb. some have a lot of it. even those who don't go are all in for super bowl week. that means they have a little explaining to do for mom. the same bronco shirt every day since they made it to the super bowl. >> she's been doing my laundry for so many years, she knows. she knows i'm a mess. i hope this isn't news to her. sorry, mom. >> so that is the

we see them cruising along. c470 and parts of douglas county. mid-20s and low 30s in northern colorado. mostly lower 30s around the metro area to boulder. we'll be in the teens and 20s today in the foothills. again with some light snow. up to an inch or two of snow on west and northwest facing slopes today in mountain areas. so that's pretty decent, especially from aspen to the north and west valleys. really not much doing down there. we'll have a nice partly cloudy sky for the areas where most people live. 20s, 30s in the east. we have a long way to climb in the mountains even to get up into the teens because we're starting out below zero this morning. foothills flurries, partly cloudy skies, low 30s today. single digits again tonight. clear skies for us. looking at 30s tomorrow and friday. it does look like a chance for

a couple of snowflakes friday morning, sunday morning, don't really see much happening as far as accumulation here. we could see about an inch of snow in the foothills on friday morning. folks, just get things cleared off in time to have to broom them off a little bit friday morning. >> we'll take brooming. that sounds not too bad. maybe you're catching a light at dia. better conditions than yesterday. a lot less delay. that goes for your drive on i- 70 as well as pena boulevard. it's clear right now. you shouldn't have any traction issues headed out east. i-70, you're also looking pretty good. it's connecting with areas of 270. colorado springs, monument slick. northbound speeds around the mid-50s. southbound speeds looking pretty good. shoulders crunchy like your accidentwise, a couple of
