4:26 pm
got with a cost, northern, parts of the central mountains looking for a considerable risk of avalanche, vail, as september --aspen, crested butte, beautiful but if you go out to enjoy it, just stay inbounds. the wind chill factor isn't terrible but give it time. the winds are cranking met 9 backyard making it it feel chillier. the temperature right now, 22 in the city and the winds are going strong especially just off to the west. 19-mile per hour speeds in allenspark and boulder, and gustier for berthoud and loveland pass. up north in southern wyoming, they have been looking at gustier conditions right now. but for a moment, it's not too bad. i am anticipating the worst of it arriving late tonight and early tomorrow morning. with that said, we have ground
4:27 pm
wind gusts at 60 miles per hour and i-25 through wyoming. that might be messy as well. blowing and drifting snow is an issue as the winds aren't going anywhere any time soon. around here, high pressure is entrenched and keeping us relatively quiet and calm at least since the storm system packed its bags and pushed out. look at this, creating severe weather across the carolinas and lifts further north and new york and boston and maine, they are looking at light snowfall but nothing compared to what we saw sunday and monday. and i am anticipating a couple of light flurries pushing into the high country mainly but tomorrow evening into early friday morning we might have a couple of light flurries in the city nothing major but maybe a little on the way to work. live hd doppler 9, this is the snow blowing around with the
4:28 pm
actually picking up. we don't have any falling at the moment. overnight you can see how quickly the skies clear, and this takes us to 8::00 tomorrow morning. it will be biting when you wake up. this morning was a cold one and overnight into tomorrow, another very, very frigid night. we should try and warm up just a hair warmer than today, and then in the afternoon, a quick short wave that gets in and will bring us cloud cover at 4:00, 5:00 here met city with -- in the city with light snow in the mountains and late thursday night into friday morning we could have a few flurries around town. talking snowfall, november, december, 11.3 respectively, and the month of january, below average at 4.6" and with the multiday storm, 11.6" so far for snowfall, so we are above where we should be for this time of year season wide and
4:29 pm
tonight, one below in greeley. i wouldn't be surprised for areas along the river out there, it would be a tough one, very cold numbers up in the mountains as well with a lot of folks going sub-zero. the wind here will help us out and be a biting one at 6 degrees under clear skies and winds coming at us out of the surface southwest and tomorrow, improvement for today. and a few afternoon clouds and a flurry here and there, and no major accumulation, either, and tempts tomorrow in the afternoon reaching low 40s from burlington to lamar and teens for gunnison and steamboat. so tomorrow, a good dose of the sunshine early on and clouds will push in late afternoon and then late thursday evening into friday morning, the best shot, a window of a couple of
4:30 pm
saturday and back to mid-40s and spots flirting with 50 degrees and then another system pushes in, not that impressive but enough to bring us a couple of flurries, gustier winds and cooler temperatures and that means the perfect weather to stay inside and watch the big game. from here on out, the light, literally at the end of the tunnel, the end of the 9-day planning forecast, looking at numbers close to 60 degrees. again, all eyes towards california, san francisco, santa clara, and it looks like game-time numbers will be sitting in the low 70s, plenty of sunshine and as the game goes on, the numbers are not dropping all that much. we'll be in the low 50s by the time they come down and off the court and hopefully bring us a big win. oh, my goodness. can you believe it? i can't believe it's almost here. >> i know. counting down, so exciting. >> here we go.
4:31 pm
>> the hat is a necessity today. >> yes, it is. it looks great. >> the sunshine truly is deceiving. you think oh, it won't be too bad, and then the winds pick up, and you need to make it longer or something. >> and the jacket has a name: orange spice. >> orange spice. i'm giving it a hashtag. >> summer, winter, whatever, it's awesome. >> i'm wearing it every day until the super bowl. sorry. you have to get used to it. >> it could be lucky. >> i dig it. >> thanks, danielle. one of the last times to hear from the players before the super bowl on sunday. >> up next, rod mackey on some
4:32 pm
we love the music. several broncos and coach kubiak took to the podium today to address the fans before the big day on sunday. and i am sure they are just getting ready to practice and
4:33 pm
>> a lot of practice, and rod, you tweeted amazing how kubiak can answer the same question for the thousand th time and act like it was the first time he heard it. >> reporter:ly is good at that and peyton is better. he answers the same question over and over and make it seem like it's the first time. they talked to the media one more time tomorrow and then 100% focus on f ootball and football only. and the thing has been big stories here. there was the bus crash, and fortunately, the broncos were okay. the murphy prostitution sting, and peyton revealed today he will eventually have to have hip surgery, and the good news is none of those stories affect this year's super bowl. >> no. it's really surprising. i assumed that peyton would have neck trouble later on
4:34 pm
neck but turns out a doctor told him he will need hip surgery. it just goes to show that no human body is meant to play football in their 40s. peyton manning is 39 and i think a lot of people think super bowl 50 is it for him. >> wait a minute. so you're saying tom brady won't have 10 more years? let's talk about the quarterback matchup that many are calling a mismatch and not for our guy. >> that's right, and i can understand why people are saying that. cam newton is tremendous. you go back and look at auburn before he got there, and he single handedly beat auburn and what auburn has done since he's been there, they might have been 3-8 and 4-9, and it took them five years to figure out everything there is about the quarterback position and not just the physical aspects.
4:35 pm
but now he is understanding the decision making, the speed of the defense on the field and he is really dialed in right now. these are the good old days for cam newton, and we know for peyton manning, the good old days was a few years ago. >> cam has thrown for 50 touchdowns and three other quarterbacks threw 50 and lost the super bowl. knock on wood. but we'll be live from 7: 7:00 until 8:00 tonight for the final edition of the broncos huddle. guys, back to you. >> okay, guys. it was fun to watch peyton. he comes across as the every man. the way he slip that does hip thing in, i thought that's all of us 1 day. i don't know it was just crazy how he was able to command respect that way.
4:36 pm
talking about horrible stuff like hip surgery and yet makes you laugh when he does it, and he's enjoying this. if this is his last rodeo, he's going out with a bang. >> he's having fun. let's go. move o -- move on. glad you are peeling good and your hips are fine and available for the rest of the week for all this extra stuff we're doing. >> we're okay. we're not great but we're okay. mike is in better shape than i am. >> okay, guys. thank you. >> they have been talking a lot and dealing with the crowds and it's insane and they're having a good time. and don't forget that show tonight. it's really good. and a top local chef will represent the broncos friday on the "today" show.
4:37 pm
the black belly market and will be in a food faceoff. >> colorado bison sliders with homemade bacon and chile and blue corn chips with melted cheddar cheese all over them, so the orange and blue, and then smoked pork, green chile sauce to go with it and fire- roasted salsa, team food. it doesn't have to be fancy. just delicious. >> you got the rest of the show, kim, right? i'm going to go eat. >> reet. and -- right, and when he appears on the today show, it's a big, big deal. set your dvr if you are not going to be around. we are continuing to look for the game day recipes because why eat what you always do when you can eat like a bronco?
4:38 pm
what they like to eat especially when they are not on a diet. brandon marshall, lemon pepper hot wings and chicken parm is a well-known favorite for peyton manning and we put together a 30-second video of a recipe all football fans will love, and what would you cook for your favorite player? you can send them in, and we have a list of the favorites. it looks delish. >> i like if someone has superstition around one play, maybe the food will make an extra push. i don't know. good stuff. tune in friday for a bronco's inspired fix this. they will share recipes and takes on the bronco's favorite food. we hear becky has a favorite
4:39 pm

4:43 pm
have, you have to go once around the plate. and people at home are saying you're kidding me. don't worry. pretend that went around. >> awesome. so cool. >> and there is a lot of science people in denver, and invite a science woman or a man to the party and ask them to bring liquid nitrogen. they are just sitting at home and have nothing to do, and this is the fun part. you will probably be eating cheetos, and if you want cheetos to taste extra good. throw them in the liquid nitrogen. so liquid nitrogen is 320 degrees below zero. so watch this. pick it up -- no, no. watch this. you pick it up like this and eat it. >> stop it. give me one of those. >> go, go, go. eat it. yes. that's really good. see how well you did that?
