6:04 am
do have a great plan in place. they learned from what happened back in 1998 when we did see some riots after the game when the broncos won. they're expecting a lot of people to be in the downtown area but in bars and restaurants. obviously there are tvs. don't expect to see a lot of people out and about. they have a plan in case they get rowdy. we'll see all of your fans celebrate. that's what we're encouraging you to do, keep celebrating in style. it's almost been 28 years since the super bowl. all those riots, we don't want to live in the past. we'll have to talk about that. all the police agencies i've talked to say they have more on standby.
6:05 am
they don't expect a lot of people to be there. get the designated driver in line. make sure you have those plans in place for sunday. i've been telling all of our viewers out there to keep it classy, colorado. i know we can all do that. too, and so does santa clara and san francisco too. here as well. you know, we took a trip to san francisco and really saw the massive security around super bowl city. it really is extraordinary. of planning.
6:06 am
fbi is calling this a national security event. the fbi is leading 60 agencies at hair on ground and at sea and visitors can expect to see bomb sniffing dogs. we see them here at the player hotel all the time. there are x-ray machines, sharp shooters on rooftops and live surveillance on the ground. all of that information is accumulated and sent back to the fbi command center. one challenge law enforcement is facing is the stadium is 40- miles from san francisco where most of the fan festivities are happening. that's a huge stretch. a lot of roads, bridges, and coastline to keep track of. so it's really protecting two separate cities. think of it as castle rock to downtown denver. that's about the proximity. in traffic, it takes longer to get there. it's a way to crack down on counterfeit items being sold
6:07 am
this is a joint effort between immigration, customs, and homeland security. they've already seized about 450,000 fake items all totaling about $49 million worth of merchandise. that's already been collected. most of the fake items were illegally imported. a lot of apparel, jerseys, t- shirts, hats, merchandise like cell phone accessories, thousands and thousands of other items too. so we took an adventure that we wanted to take you along. we wanted to tell you about the tale of two cities. santa clara, california where levi stadium is where the the super bowl will be on sunday. go about 40-miles to the city of san francisco, and that's where the fan activity is. in traffic it took us about an hour and 40 minutes yesterday, but we wanted to take you
6:08 am

6:10 am
>> i think that's exactly the way the broncos want it. there's nothing better than going into a game like this when nobody gives you a chance. gary kubiak can get up in front of 55 guys and say, fellas, it's us against the world. there's nobody out there that thinks we can win. let's show them. that's what you can do. listen, it's not like they're two touchdown underdog. they're a six-point underdog. there's a lot of different ways they can win this game. i will give you four things they can do to win the football game. number one, contain cam newton. that's hard to do. he's a linebacker playing quarterback. he's the best player in fact nfl, but you have to rush him in a way and don't give him those lanes on third and seven. make him beat you with his arm, not his legs. if he beats you with the arm, you can be kept. second, he reads the option all the time where he decides to run or flip it to the back.
6:11 am
the you know what out of him. enthusiasm. if those fellas do that, he'll lose a little enthusiasm. number three, best defense, run the football on him. be committed to the run. run the ball, run the ball. if the broncos win, cj anderson will be the mvp of this game. most importantly, if you run the ball, that sets up passing lanes for peyton manning. number four, peyton manning has to be better than he's been all year. he's been a game manager the last two games. that was good. that was fine against new england, fine against pittsburgh. it will not be fine against this team. you're going to have to make some place down the field. if you do, we'll all be dancing in the streets on sunday night. >> loving that. >> let's give it a go. all right.
6:12 am
today you're going to have plenty of chances to get a free broncos country magnet, ten chances. >> not ten magnets. >> i'm sorry. . vita is giving away magnets this morning. >> we're getting a steady stream. the original line went through. you can see they're starting to go fast. there are still some here. people saw us on the news. they've come down. brandon, how are things going for you? >> great, great, great. a lot of excitement. go broncos. >> that's the general manager. >> this is a cute little fan. she's shy all of a sudden. dominica. she wanted to say go broncos. >> say peyton manning. >> she's camera shy. >> she just woke up. >> can we see what she's wearing? will she let us see?
6:13 am
>> yeah. are you guys excited? >> i love coming to these because we have so many wonderful fans who literally have come to five locations. they finally got one today. we're at 120th and sheridan and broomfield. box. they're narrowing it down. i think we'll be out by 7:00. we're going to be here at least through 7:00, marty. once again, we have all those locations we were talking about today. so just go to 9news.com and find a location and you, too, can get a broncos magnet. >> i like that design too. it's very good. vita, good look out there. looks like they're going fast. single digits in the foothills. we're going to send the clouds out as we go through the day. finish with sunshine, 30s and low 40s here.
6:14 am

6:15 am
clouds and the tiny disturbance came through the area. we didn't really get any snow. we didn't anticipate it.
6:16 am
i wouldn't be surprised if we have measurable snow in douglas county. it's continuing to travel to the south and east. we've gone below zero. the clouds kept temperatures up overnight around here. we start with clouds. finish with sun. it's going to be a beautiful afternoon. 30s, 40s this afternoon. southeastern colorado gets the snow this morning. i give it until 10:00. after 10:00 we'll see it clear out of the area again and an inch or less in the southeast. couple of flurries in northern mountains. 20s, 30s, 40s in the east. 20s and 30s for the mountains and west today. 40 degrees clouds this morning clear on out of here through the night we go tonight, low 20s around here and then tomorrow it is a much warmer day before the wind kicks up sunday and monday and we really
6:17 am

6:18 am
look at all of our friends from special olympics. hey, we express great gratitude. >> i told them loud and long. they took that literally. we raised 5,300-dollars for special olympics, colorado, and these athletes here. the money is going to help expand the project unify program that brings together athletes and high school sports all across the metro area. i just learned it's going to fund three schools. that's awesome. so amelia is going to help me put some of these on. >> right now? >> we're going to do half my face in blue. marty is going to do the tattoo right there. this is the left cheek. >> cory, this is the best idea ever. >> now? >> now. now. we don't have time.
6:19 am

6:28 am

building in northern california. everyone is excited for super bowl 50. the coaches, players, and mascots. live. happy orange friday. >> reporter: good morning. building. the energy level is getting higher and higher. it's been so much fun. you know, rain, wind, snow could not keep thunder away. thunder, being the denver broncos mascot, of course, arrived at the red barn at stanford university a couple days later than expected. >> hey, thunder, are the denver broncos going to win the super bowl? >> oh, that's a yes. >> that's an emphatic yes. his handlers thought it would take 22 hours of drive time to complete the 1300-mile road
6:31 am
it ended uptaking four days because of the snow storm that was moving into colorado. so thunder has a very busy schedule between now and super bowl sunday. he has to work out, get clipped. bathed, get his hooves pedicured. only the best for a pure bred arabian gelding. then he has stadium rehearsals and pregame brunches all before he leads the team out on sunday. thunder zero not the only animal rooting for the broncos. it's been fun to see all the city. they predicted that the broncos were going to win. so they have one more practice big game. the panthers are going to university. no one has been allowed to see the practices. we're getting video from the nfl films. both teams are going to do a tomorrow. that will be exciting. it will be the first chance to see the field, the pristine field that they are going to
6:32 am
you know, when it comes to who is going to win on sunday, i guess you can say it's anybody's guess. more specifically it's anybody's animal's guest. everybody likes to have the animals predicting, a couple of manatees in florida got in on the action at the aquarium. they made their big picks for the game. one named buffet chose the broncos to win. buffet has been right eight out of nine times. he says the panthers are going to win. not everybody can be right all the time. no worries. hey, when we come back, we're going to talk to the broncos insider mike cliff. he's been talking to the players all week long, hearing they're looking, specifically at practice. we're going to talk to him more about that. it's all sounding pretty encouraging, guys. >> sounds good, cheryl.
6:33 am
we have someone here who is smarter than a manatee? >> yes. >> i wouldn't go that far. >> manatees are smart. >> there you go. >> in the last hour you talked about the four things the broncos need to do to beat the panthers. the last thing you said, peyton has to play better than he's played all season. we've heard he's looking incredible. >> nobody is at practice. nobody knows that. that's all speculation. >> biased. >> there will be a reporter, but basically it changed years ago where guys like me could go questions. nobody sees practice. the reports are that he looks good. he should look good. he took six weeks off. he is healthier than he's ever been. but we won't know until 4:30 on sunday afternoon how good he looks. i cannot tell you how many times i covered super bowls and i did the same thing.
6:34 am
so and so is supposed to look they're loose. they're really going to play great. and then the game came and got killed. see that. 88, he's another guy that has to have a big game. he has not done anything in the postseason. we talked about this 45 minutes ago. if you can run the ball effectively, it's going to set up the passing lanes for peyton manning. he's a tough kid. he's tough mentally, tough physically. what's going on. you had two catches against the patriots. you have to be much, much, much better. let's look on the other side. not many people know much about the panthers, other than cam newton. he's the key. but at least a reason they're 17-1. there's more to that team. jonathan stewart, excellent running back.
6:35 am
centered around ryan kalil. they're not going to have the same kind of day. >> they're going to have their work cut out for them. their receivers are ordinary, but their tight end, greg olson is out standing, not as good as gronkowski, but he's good. defense, they're one-eighth of the broncos number one. lou may be the best linebacker in the nfl along with thomas davis. probably the best corner in the nfl. he'll probably get him. you're going to have to come with your best game of the year to beat them. they like to come out and smoke you in the first ten minutes. they did it to seattle and arizona. they break your will. they're laughing and dabbing and jobbing. you have to stop the onslaught. i want to look up at the end of
6:36 am
>> ron is going to stick around. we'll talk to him on channel 20. a lot of bronco fans are scared it will be like last time. >> don't be. >> if you're itching to get your hands on one of these babies, you have a chance. >> vita is at sheridan and 120 120th in broomfield. you had quite a line earlier. >> good morning. yeah. >> reporter: it's funny. we're standing here and people notice we're going live and everybody got quiet. they're running away. we'll show you something really interesting here. look at the magnet. this is it. they're almost gone. we've had a really steady stream of people coming down here today. it's really been nonstop. as soon as we go live, people run away. >> go broncos. >> would you like a magnet? >> i would. thank you very much.

good morning from santa clara, california. the broncos hotel. it's a good thing they will be it's warm. we're hearing a lot from coach kubiak about how great peyton manning looks. how much is just a message to think is representative of where peyton manning and the team is right now. >> according to a report yesterday, peyton manning really threw the ball well. he hit three long passes and only one incomplete. he threw to three receivers. peyton has not been hitting the long passes probably in a year and a half. that's been a flaw that's developed in his game here the last -- as he's had his injury problems. so the fact that he started hitting them yesterday as the super bowl approaches, i think
6:43 am
