ice are going to start to melt. tonight. >> a week ago we were bracing for a huge winter snowstorm and i do not have snow in the forecast for the next few days, a major departure from what we've been experiencing. outside right now, it's a little bit cooler than yesterday. we're actually kind of on the western edge of a little jet stream. there have been a few snow showers and a bit of wind to deal with, but here in denver, calm, quiet, a few clouds and yes it was a little cooler. thesnow showers following that little disturbance across the northeastern plains and we do have wind warnings and advisories out across the northern plains states right now for those who are traveling on i-25. the winds will also create the

should be a sea of dwreen -- sea of green. dan is part of a team which took to the air to level the damage of forest around the state. >> it gives us an idea of what level of pests are out there. >> reporter: the spruce beetle ate its way through many acres in 2014. and the tussock moth 26,000 acres along the front range. >> then they work their way to the oldest growth. in doing so, they eliminate the tree's ability to fight it. >> reporter: the state emerged from drought conditions seen in previous years. >> last year we saw a pretty good rain year and that allowed some of these pests to work their way through a lot of these trees. >> reporter: once they do make their way, the trees become a fire hazard. >> it can cause fires to

were to start in those trees, it can increase. >> reporter: the forest service says last year they treated about 17,000 acres on private lands and state lands. still, they say when it comes to dealing with these pets, there needs to be a balance. >> reporter: pefrts that are making themselves known -- pests s that are making themselves known across the landscape. >> the state forest service says it does have some good news. the number of acres that have been intestified by a -- been intestified by the pine beetle have dropped. . some people don't care who wins the super bowl. a man is going out of his way to avoid finding out who wins. it's a contest where people try to go as long as possible without finding out the results

in the high country, there's been a few light snow showers. here in downtown denver, pretty picture. only 28 degrees in the city, though >> 26 at dia. the winds have been really gusty over some of the higher passes. a little bit of blowing snow over some of those higher passes. the trend, he though, is the -- the trend, throw, is the warmer, dryer weather. it's called the jet streak. it's carrying that wind up north. heavy wind and even the potential for blizzard conditions east of nebraska. that's an area of low pressure that will stay put. winds are kicking up in southern california as well. really with high pressure over our region, we are looking at a nice weather pattern, a complete departure over the weather that we had this time last week.

temperatures go into the 60s for the middle part the week -- part of the week. again, not enough to travel your -- not enough to affect your travel up there. that monday morning commute will be good. tonight will be chilly, though. partly cloudy a low of 18. we start off at 18 degrees. we jump into the mid 40s and close to 50 by the afternoon. i don't know that we're going to quite get to 50, but i will see temperatures jump into the 60s mid week. above average weather trend continues all the way through until about a week from today. we are tracking the next storm system and the next chance for snow. the dog days of winter -- we started with the dog story and we're going to end with one. these guys are saying let's do this. >> clearly, that's what they

jim feeds the swans every winter morning. pays for the feeds with donations and out of his own pocket. when a mother lost her 7 month old son, it proved to be another family's saving grace.

more than 122,000 people in the u.s. are waiting for a life saving organ transplant, that number includes many children. recently, a little girl in arizona received a heart. >> reporter: look out, here comes jordan. it's hard to believe this bundle of energy is only two years removed from a heart transplant. >> she had a brain bleed, a stroke, she had brain surgery. so many issues. >> all complications from a faulty heart valve. >> instantly you feel relief. she may make it. but on the flip side, it took me half a second to turn and say, a mother lost her child tonight. >> that child was a 17 month old. he was heather's only child and she didn't hesitate to make that selfless decision to donate his organs.

not save somebody else's. >> reporter: now this lady can turn around and play like any other child. these two mothers embrace for the first time. het ergot to meet the little girl my son saved. >> she took to her instantly. >> reporter: like only a mother could, she says she sees a lot of lucas in jordan. with the push of a button, heather can hear lucas's actual heartbeat. both mothers say they are family now. >> through all the grief that she dealt with in losing her child, jordan being so sick, us almost losing her, it seems that everything came together perfect little for both of us. >> reporter: when it has saved so many lives, this little guy saved two other guys with his kidney and liver. >> he did more in seven months
