broncos faithful are expected to it's dark outside, but bronco fans are shining bright as they get ready for the super bowl celebration. >> nice glasses. i like that. >> hey, close to a million downtown today. we have our best options of getting to and from the parade. >> good evening, everyone. today is the big super bowl parade. marty coniglio will help you prepare for the festivities. >> it's starting off beautifully. by the time of the concerts and 10:00 a.m. start, it will be cooler, but by the time we get to the parade, it's going to be comfortable.

area. we're benefiting from a bit of a down sloping wind. it should be topping freezing today. look at the dry conditions here. not only across the state, much of the reason, the closest snow nebraska. the midwest getting hammered effect snow. now, for the broncos, by noon into the low 50s, we'll be in the mid-50s between 2:00 and 3:00 this afternoon. bear in mind, if you're in the canyon there on 17th, you would be in the shadow. so it's going to be a little cooler than if you were out in the sunshine. i think with, what, a million people, amelia, everybody should be able to stay plenty warm. there's going to be a lot of body heat around there. hopefully not a lot of frustration. first, we're going to talk about the metro commute. a lot of folks do need to get

so far we're enjoying a smooth ride. 25 near 84th avenue. 225 corridor is looking good. e470 and c-470. downtown we've got a minor crash at first and downing. sunrise at 7:00 a.m., we're in the 6:00 hour for the sunny start we're expecting. 25 in arapaho is where we take a live look for great conditions. we're in the upper 60s with no major problem there is. 25 looking pretty good. 20 minutes for northbounders at 69 miles per hour. southbound traffic is 19 minutes. across the board, guys, we're

let's show you a map so you can see where this parade route is going. union station is where it starts. then it moves in front of the city council building. they will get there by 1:00. all the big celebrations start at 10:00 in the morning. there will be music, all kinds of pep rallies going on. you want to get out here early. that's what city officials are advising. they're also giving you this warning. don't bring big bags and chairs. you won't be able to sit. bagsbags will get searched. they're discouraging any big bags. it seems like it would be known but there's no alcohol or pot. ment. it's a family outing.

north side as well as our slowdown expected along spear. with folks arriving two hours before the parade, things begin at 10:00 a.m. that means we're expecting slowdowns across the freeway app. download the app for free. search 9news. you will recognize our logo. the parade route starts off right in front of union station. from broadway you're going to head directly south all the way to civic center park. parking in the area. side streets, we're going to talk about loaded up delays here. on a typical day, we're expecting up to 1 million people to head down to the broncos parade. 10:00 a.m. entertainment kicks off. 1:00 p.m. the rally begins. we don't expect the road closures to begin. stay tuned and enjoy this very

taking a light rail may be your best bet getting into downtown today. whether you take the train, bus, or drive your car, expect a crowded morning commute and get into the city early. >> come in early. as early as possible, i would say. plan ahead and plan on staying longer. just be patient as people travel in and it takes a while for everybody to get out of the downtown area too. >> all f, h, and d lines will stop at the convention center. ce and w lines will run like normal. >> many bus routes will look different to help get passengers as close to the parade as possible. you can see the lines effected on the screen. the earliest detours will start near civic center park and civic center station will be closed. rtd also plans to extend the 16th street mall service as the

if you can't make it down for the parade, well, you can watch 9news. we'll be on the air live from 10:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. we'll also be streaming coverage on 9news.com. new overnight, passengers were stuck inside of the wreckage after a head-on collision between two trains this. happened in southern germany. munich. it's in an area making it difficult for the rescuers to get people out of the trains. they say at least 8 people were killed, about 150 others injured. many flown to local hospitals. >> the u.s. olympic committee is putting out its own warning related to the zika virus. the committee reiterated that pregnant women and anyone concerned for their health should consider not going to the games in august. while zika virus is a threat in that region, it would not

in the country if they qualify. 5:38. if parents want to send their kids to full day kindergarten, they will have to pay for it. last fall. the bill asking voters to fund the effort was denied. according to triple a, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is coming in at $1.59 in denver. that's six cents cheaper than a week ago and 40 cents cheaper than a year ago. cheaper gas prices may not last much longer. even if they continue to fall, money. they will take this opportunity to shut down and start doing maintenance. and that will mean higher

john kasich, promoting his win. there. morning. on the democratic side, it's looking like bernie sanders is up over 20 points over hillary clinton. the clinton camp has been fighting back. bill clinton has called sanders' attacks against hillary profane and sexist. as voters in new hampshire cast their ballot, sanders appears the front runner, but hillary is hoping to close that gap. >> i will ask you respectfully to please consider giving me the chance to do this job for you. >> i'm here today to ask your support to join with us in making that political revolution. >> as for the republicans, we know that donald trump is far ahead of the pack right now. about 31%.

between marco rubio, ted cruz, place. guys, as we know, we saw in iowa, those polls don't always predict the winner. >> around here today, we're forecasting dry conditions. it's going to go until at least the middle of next week. conditions tomorrow. parade and rally. if you're down there early, by 9:00 or 10:00, we'll be in the 40s, starting to get in the 50s. you're going to be shadowed there on 17th avenue, so you're going to see some slightly cooler feeling ratings and temperatures in the 50s for the rally. will it top out today? dry today, warmer tomorrow with mid-60s for daytime highs. i think we'll pick up clouds on thursday that will cap us back in the 50s. again, with another arctic blast going into the upper mid waste, staying in the 50s with

well, all bets are in about five years or so, people will be watching on their tiny screen. they're shopping streaming rights for football. verizon and yahoo are interested. apparently the league is not looking for a -- right now. they went to experiment with technologies. it's business as usual at chipotle. yesterday they were closed until 3:00 in the afternoon, meeting with all of their employees across the country and repeatedly telling them they need to stay home if

a couple of food safety issues were a result of norovirus, which is typically caused by sick workers. managers urging employees to be incredibly hospital as they fight to win back customers. in january, sales were down 36%. in an effort to earn back good will, the company offered a free burrito to anyone who a.m. to 6:00 p.m. problem is a lot of folks added an extra 2 to this promotion and they actually got the cell phone of a d.c. area lawyer. the lawyer got dozens of texts from people he didn't know and they didn't know what was going on, and they wanted their free burrito. and they weren't too happy when they found out he wasn't going to give them one. >> he's going to get free gift cards for his troubles. >> so the story of a woman has united thousands of people in denver.

during black history month in 2013. it's the story of how a former slave could become a saint. the archdiocese in denver is celebrating her as the model of mercy for jubilee holy year. this painting was commissioned by the archdiocese and unveiled in january. she came to denver after being freed by the emancipation proclamation. as a slave she was beaten so badly she lost one of her eyes, but she still showed mercy. when she lived in curtis park in the five points area, greeley was known to carry supplies for the needy in a little red wagon, even though she was impoverished herself. some say her work is deserving sainthood. and they've been working on having her canonized. >> it's part of the rich african-american history that we're sharing all this month. you can see more on the black history month page on our website. just go to 9news.com.

happy fat tuesday. that's today. we're look at the party going on in new orleans in a few minutes. around here we're looking at mild temperatures already above freezing in some parts of the metro area because of some nice down sloping winds we have. if you do have to go to work, temperatures will be moving at and above freezing for just about all of us by 9:00 a.m. it is dry for the front range. for colorado and almost the entire region. it's the midwest and great lakes continuing to just get hammered with cold air and snow. they can see more in the day while we get sunshine. man, looking forward to this event downtown today. >> i'm sure you are, marty. we have a high wind warning to the west side that's affecting highway 285 at kenosha past. they have just limited high profile vehicles and light vehicles from traveling through. please use caution if you're

. welcome back. season. it is fat tuesday. big. more than a million people expected to gather in new orleans. we're looking at some video from new orleans right now. hey, this year security is tighter than ever before. so much so the fbi says visitors should always assume that they are being watched. in addition to agents, about 1100 new orleans police officers are on patrol. many of them under cover. all of this adds up to big

estimated $878 million into into the community for the mardi gras season. >> that's a big party. we started off the month snowy. if you remember this time last week. extended coverage because of the snow. 11.6 inches officially. we need another 7 to get into the top five. if you've forgotten, last february was the snowiest february in denver's recorded history. dry now, a few high clouds drifted through overnight. did not really do much. from here to the west coast no, weather systems, which means no significant changes here over the next several days. we do get warm tomorrow. probably the warmest day of the week, and then we'll get another really cold push of air into the midwest friday. that's going to back into the front range and cool us down slightly. we're still going to be at above average temperatures. it usually does this time of day with milder temperatures in places where we're getting some down sloping winds. clear skies for us through the

20-30 mile-per-hour winds in the foothills. temperatures in the 40s to about 50s similar to what we'll see in northern colorado. look for lower and middle 50s around the metro area. highs again 20s northwest part of the state. 30s in the central part and southwestern colorado will be in the 40s. milder here than it will be over the northeastern corner of our state. today, sunshine, 56 degrees. we'll be in the mid-20s. still looks like the warmest day of the week. we have clouds roll in thursday afternoon. no rain and no snow. cooler on friday, a brief rebound on saturday. still, a decent looking saturday, yesterday, amelia, it was like nothing happened during the morning commute. don't you wish we could do that again. >> i think we might, actually, until we hit the 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 mark. entertainment kicks off at 10:00 and the city officials are saying get downtown about
