information as we get it. >> it's 55:32. it will be -- 5:32. lawmakers are hoping to tighten control over future veterans administration construction projects. noel brennan joins us live from the site in aurora. noel, you're looking at the newest bill that will effect big construction projects. any project that cost more than $100 million. the budget here is expected to be $1.7 billion. that's three times the original estimate when this whole thing started years ago. we know yesterday that the house decided to move forward with the bill that would increase oversight and management of these so-called super construction projects. the va would have to let the u.s. army corp of engineers

the va would are to report back to congress to keep lawmakers up to date. the bill also says congress must be notified 60 days before any money is spent on advanced planning or design. that legislation passed a voice vote in the house today. now it will move on to the senate. now, investigation looked into what the problems were with the va hospitals were in aurora. they say it really came down to mismanagement and a lot of design changes with the hospital and a complicated contract process that the va didn't fully understand. so, corey, now the targeted completion date for the hospital is set to be in january of 2018. >> we hope it stays there and doesn't continue to get extended. noel, thank you. it's 5:44. the police are investigating a shooting near greenville large. the area was blocked off late last night. police say they were

one man who lives in that area tells us he was in with his family when he heard gunshots. he said when he looked outside, he saw several men shooting dozens of rounds. we have a call into greeley police to find out for information. a 2-year-old girl is safe after an amber alert was called. the toddler was thrown from the car during a high speed chase and then a crash in southern colorado. the girl's day, 19-year-old ramiro terado had a fight with his girlfriend and he took their daughter. troopers spotted the car on i- 25 yesterday morning. there had been a chase. the car reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. and then it rolled near a frontage road. they were hurt but are expected to recover. >> police in boulder believe an organized ring is responsible for two dozen car thefts around there. now they're trying to find the

in most cases the cars were stolen after the owners left the cars inside. crime stoppers is offering a reward for any information to help. you could get a reward. >> an old empty k-mart is about to get new life in broomfield. property owner has several other interested ten -- tenants for open spots. it will give all consumers access to vehicles that are previously available to gm employees. consumers can compare suggested prices to other car buyers. that site, by the way, is

the percentage of autoloans to buyers with the poorest credit ratings is growing faster than market. 28% of open loans are now held credit ratings. experian also found an increase in autoloans at least 60 days >> 5:36. donald trump and bernie sanders don't have much in common, but they share one big similarity this morning. both won the primary. tarhonda thomas, both won by double digits. >> they sure did. early polls predicted trump and sanders would win big. today the candidates are hoping to ride the wave of momentum. they each think their wins last night prove that americans want a new type of government. sanders beat hillary clinton by 20 points. it's quite the shift from the caucus in iowa that clinton

trump came in second in iowa. he topped john kasich by 20 points. trump ended up with 35% of the vote. sanders got nearly 60% of his vote. it was enough to get donald trump's attention. >> first of all, congratulations to bernie, in all fairness. we have to congratulate him. we may not like it, but i heard part of bernie's speech. he wants to give away our country, folks. >> the government of our great country belongs to all of the people and not just a handful of wealthy campaign contributors and their super pack. >> the line was literally a mile long to cast the vote. we'll see if the turnout at the next primary is that strong. the south carolina primary is in ten days. >> with the new hampshire

america has too many job openings, just good news, the number of job openings are increasing but bad news is people may not have the skills required. this is called the job skills gap. people can lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits and that can hold back growth. i haven't had region to mention

weeks, until this morning. disney said earnings are up 32%. the release of star wars, the force awakens gave a nice boost to the film business. theme park visits were fairly strong, but the media business is struggling as more people are cutting the cord. that's why disney stock fell. the music publisher that claimed to own the rights to happy birthday song will return fees. a federal judge agreed and back in september ruled that no one had the right to charge for the song. the refund of fees puts this whole dispute finally to rest. >> thank goodness. >> thank goodness. >> we can move on. >> what a mess. 5:46. we know a lot more about the symptoms of concussions and the long-term effects of them now. researchers are working to find out why so many kids are still not reporting their injuries to a coach or parent. the same thing is happening

so the department of defense and the ncaa have teamed up with two colorado researchers to study reporting. they say there's a culture of covering up injuries. they want to encourage more athletes to report concussion type symptoms that lead to injuries down the road. this is one of the largest problems in sports. >> we have many clinical tools to examine and treat and health athletes. what we need, though, is a way to understand in the culture how we can get them to talk about this injury to get them to that point. >> and the u.s. military hopes the use of this research will help more active duty members report their injuries as well. researchers believe more athletes reporting when they're hurt means they will get the help they need. that can limit the long-term effects. i'm just so happy we're talking about this so much. it is so important to get the conversation going. >> absolutely it is. it's 5:47 right now. we're learning about how the

viruses can be fought separately separately. >> around here we're looking at clear skies over the area, and really nice warning around here in metro denver. dry conditions in the state. dry and clear here. i think we stay that way throughout the day. we'll have a few batches of high clouds, so they're going to start drifting into western colorado late tonight. tomorrow. now, i talked about the cold air in the upper midwest. jet stream continues to be a direct pipeline into central canada. that's going to create cold conditions there. we have a weak disturbance that's going to cut down through here, bring us cooler air on sunday and really light mountain snow. cold in the western and central valleys. pretty mild here along the front range. cooler readings as you move out onto the eastern plains. sunny skies for you today. we'll have dry conditions and low 60s.

mainly clear and dry statewide. the only strong winds will be right here on the mountains and foothills. 40s and 50s in the mountains. slightly cooler northeast. and, yes, 70 plus in southeastern colorado. today, sunny, windy especially west side of town. mid-60s today. near 30 tonight. and then we roll into the low 60s tomorrow. clouds pick up a little tomorrow. we have a slightly cooler day friday and saturday and then a brief cooldown on sunday. that takes us down to an average temperature. it looks light here so far this morning. >> yes, it does. good morning to you. as we get out to our cdot cam, what a ride we have in store. 225 is in awesome shape here. speeds are in the 60s.

toward i-25 i-25 i-25. c-470 is looking good. for right now, all speeds are indicating a really easy drive, even with that in mind. as for the big patch of yellow, yes, windy to the west. high profile vehicles on 93 and i-70. we'll need to use a lot of caution. as for yesterday, we had the closure in place. nothing like that today, but we could see it changing as the day continues. amelia, thank you. it's almost time for us to introduce you to our adoptable pet this morning. we're going to give you a hint this.
