hard to see distant ones shining through regular telescopes. so sciences used radio waves telescopes to explore this previously unobserved area. >> we've known for a long time the milky galaxy like other galaxies has attracted gravitational waves by some mass in that particular direction and for a long time nobody knew what that mass is and so this could potentially help answer that question, what is this great attractor? could it be these galaxies? >> again most of the newly discovered galaxies are located in a previous dark or unexplored region of space. they are about 250 million light years from earth which scientists consider close in cosmic terms. a team of scientists say this is the first step to discover how big the galaxies are out there and what role they play with our milky way. are they like revolving around each other like our planets resolve around our son? it's going to answer all -- sun?

4:14 pm
there we go. >> okay. >> never happens. >> very rarely. oh, the line just went. he hung up, good to go. now we're going to talk a little more and try and keep the lines open with our political experts as we talk about the february 20th primaries, republicans in south carolina. >> on the democratic side james mejia and on the republican side kelly maher. the question is he one and done or in the race? >> i think kasich has to look to nevada and see what happens there, see if he has really gotten any momentum because new hampshire is kind of an odd place. i did, however, appreciate out of new hampshire the massive, massive win of our friend bernie sanders. that was really exciting for me for a host of reasons. >> that brings us to this.
4:15 pm
this during the commercial break. i mean bernie sanders won by a much larger margin unanimous expected. the clinton campaign is in behind the scenes probably freak-out mode. they'vhired new strategists. they have to be really concerned. >> listen, they expected to lose new hampshire, neighboring vermont, sanders has been there, a mayor serving as senator for many, many years, they expected to lose, did not expect to lose this big. if she could have come even within single digits, that would have been a major victory for her to stay that close. >> nevada could be touch and go, too, for her? >> she should do much better in south carolina where the african american vote makes up about half of the democratic electorate and in nevada the latino vote is substantial and could sway that vote. she is polling about 3-1 in both those communities in both
4:16 pm
two better outcomes for clinton. >> kelly, donald trump doing very well. does he march through the south like new hampshire? what do you think? >> potentially donald trump has been i think a surprise for everybody, but when it comes to bernie sanders, i think it's really important to note that yesterday hillary clinton lost every single income segment under $200,000. >> and donald trump won all of those categories. >> he won all of those and he did really well and frankly, the fact that he has a lot of anger and he's expressing it continuously is it really something that is playing with voters who are frustrated with the course of the country right now. >> take your shot. they are a little concerned. take your shot at what you think the republicans are a little worried about at this point? >> oh, i think the republicans are way more worried about trump than the democrats are. we would love to run against donald trump. he wants to kick people out of the country for religious or
4:17 pm
well for the republicans. so i think they're more worried about donald trump winning the nomination than democrats are. >> how long do you give ben carson? >> not very long. one or two more primaries but to not even break double digits in new hampshire, i don't think south carolina will be kind to him. i don't think nevada will be particularly kind to him. he's got more staying power than fiorina and christie obviously did but not much more. >> rubio a little worried? >> yes. marco rubio finished fifth, wasn't it? >> yes. he actually went to twitter and apologized for his debate responses. so that's going to be a good question, but i think the real story yesterday is the fact that mels really looked at hillary clinton pointing at her and saying hey, the empress doesn't have a pants suit. >> i want to know about michael bloomberg. is he going to jump in? has he become the spoiler? i think he's still on the fence, isn't he?
4:18 pm
>> he is definitely considering it. i think he has till super tuesday to decide, first deadlines come in after that. he'll wait to see if clinton can win or it's heading that direction. if she gets in, i don't think he gets in, but i think he would be a welcome addition to the party for republicans who view him as a big city mayor and many voters would break for him if they aren't satisfied with the democrat. >> yeah. and another millionaire, another new york millionaire. >> we need another one of those. >> we don't have enough of those going around. he'll run as an independent? >> that's what i'm hearing. i think the fact that msnbc finally talked about the fact that hillary clinton is being investigated by the fbi is making probably the saddest guy in politics right now joe biden because you know he is wishing that he took that shot. i think if it continues

already sick won't really help. >> and taking vitamin c supplements won't prevent a cold in the first place according to the national institutes of health. taking high doses of vitamin c can also cause other health problems. for example, studies have shown that men who take excessive amounts are twice as likely to develop kidney stones and consuming more than 2,000 milligrams of vitamin c a day can cause an upset stomach and painful cramps. in general the nih recommends 90 milligrams per day per men and 75 milligrams a day for women for maintaining good health. that's about the equivalent of a single orange. >> the best way to get the vitamin c you need is from fruits and vegetables. >> some of the best foods include red and green peppers, citrus fruits, kiwi and broccoli. as for that cold, if you need some relief from symptoms,

medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen for aches and fever or single ingredient decongestants, throat losenges or honey for your throat and pick up a good humidifier. >> humidifiers in colorado huge assist. be aware that vitamin c supplements may interact or interfere with certain treatments and drugs according to the national institutes of health including chemotherapy and heart medications. >> it is always best to check with your doctor before taking any dietary supplement. so you're probably too late is the thing once you get sick. >> that's right. we are saying one thing for sure. you'd probably like to get outside if you could the next few days. it's going to be nice. >> we have 60s in our forecast, good-bye to all that snow.

bursting from a pipe in colorado we call this a bad day if it happens in front of your house, right? >> yes. >> a huge geyser bursting after a water main break there. this must have been a huge pipe. workers are now repairing the 45-year-old pipe and traffic is down to one lane on murray between byron drive and east crest circle. it will not be fixed until after the rush hour. in the meantime there are people all around this break who has zero water pressure. >> and that's all going to freeze overnight. it's warm now, but all the same it's going to be awfully slick and not so pleasant out there. >> i'm guessing that's 15, 20 feet in the air. that is a nightmare. >> at least it's relatively nice while they're working on it right now, highs in the 50s and 60s across our state. >> there's where you spent your day with a million of your best friends down there.
4:25 pm
>> oh, look at your shampoo. >> well, i got to lock down the main because it's getting kind of windy out here. sometimes you got hair flying in your face. it's just not good. yeah, the winds have been the problem for today, but they helped us warm up, so that's all right. we'll take them. up to the high country it was a great day. they got to enjoy some bluebird skies, steamboat springs, northern mountains down to the central mountains, breckenridge, summit county just spectacular, the scenery unbelievable with all that blue sky in the background. we do have a few clouds pouring into the denver metro area looking at partly cloudy skies throughout the rest of the evening, but a little bit more sunshine on tap tomorrow. can you believe it? middle of february. here we are as we sat in the mid-60s this afternoon. it felt fantastic. 75 in pueblo, lamar, springfield, trinidad in the 70s and even up in the high country they were able to bask in all that sunshine and a relatively mild day in the 30s and 40s as well.
4:26 pm
cooled off but not bad, mostly cloudy, winds sustained out of the west, 16 miles per hour. so again it's been breezy at times. here in the backyard or temperatures sitting in the low 60s as well. the winds will be with us throughout the rest of this evening, especially if you live around the foothills. you can see they've been in that 30 to 40 mile-per-hour range. i think over the course of the next couple hours that's the worst of it. they'll begin to weaken slightly by morning only to increase once again by tomorrow afternoon when you're back here joining us. we could be talking about more wind gusts in that 30 to 40 mile-per-hour range from estes park down towards idaho springs. meanwhile up and down the i-25 corridor and the eastern plains it should be quieter. the chinook rains raced off the foothills and the dry air funnels through and it picks up speed and wrings out the moisture. it helped warm up our temperatures significantly. that's why we see days like
4:27 pm
that give you hope springtime is around the corner. here's the deal. a strong storm system pressing into parts of the midwest bringing them some cold, cold air. this lingers into new england as well. high pressure is still back in action across much of the west. we will have this little front that pushes through, just nudges into eastern colorado tomorrow afternoon. that will bring us a few more clouds, a slight cool-off compared to today, but that's about it. we don't have a ton of moisture to work with out there. it's going to be another boring forecast, if you will. by tomorrow morning you can see a couple high level clouds around the city out across kansas into nebraska if you're heading that direction. as that front pulls through, they'll be looking at mostly cloudy skies. throughout the day things still impressive in colorado and later tomorrow evening a few high level clouds build back into the center around the i-25 -- city around the i-25 corridor and partly cloudy skies.
4:28 pm
colorado and 30 degrees in denver. the eastern plains look quiet as well. we'll fall to the teens for vail valley and leadville and gunnison and alamosa, you guys get a break from the subzero temperatures in the single digits tonight. a few high level clouds continue overnight across the area, winds continuing in the foothills but not as bad overnight into tomorrow morning. around town 10 to 20 mile-per- hour speeds is what you can expect. by tomorrow morning when you wake up, it's beautiful, another glorious thursday across the mile high city and across colorado. high temperatures soaring a good 15 degrees above where they should be and it will be another balmy one in the 60s in south eastern colorado. even up in the high country a day in the 30s and 40s as well. we'll be looking at a few high level clouds building back into the area tomorrow afternoon, the winds a bit breezy and we'll stay in the low to mid- 50s for the start of the weekend. i anticipate a little more sunshine saturday and then
4:29 pm
that will bring some slightly cooler temperatures, but 48 still isn't all that bad. you'll notice the winds pick up a bit for valentine's day. the clouds increase and that's going to be our one opportunity really to see some snowfall in the northern and central mountains. right now it looks like the metro area, the eastern plains eastern plains, you guys might have a couple rain showers, but overall a very weak short lived system because you can see presidents day you might be enjoying a little powder in the mountains. in the city mid-50s with mostly sunny skies and then you guys, temperatures only soaring from there. there's going to be about a week, two weeks i should say of looking at above average temperatures and no real wet weather around here, kind of makes you wonder are we going to be in for it in march or april? >> first day of spring march 22nd, something like that? >> yeah. you have no cares in the world. >> yeah, okay.

you say there are some big rule changes with the car. >> nascar went to a charter system right now which if you're in the know, you kind of know what that means. they're going to something like a franchise system, but for the cars themselves what the fans watch for every week is the cars will be lower in horsepower, lower in down force and the tires are different which means that these guys and ladies, too will have to drive the cars. it makes the cars a little looser on the track. it makes them kind of more slippery around the track. so you're going to have a lot of things going on that people may want to see, but you really have to drive the cars. so what they have coming up now is they're going to have an unlimited race saturday night february 13th and daytona 500, the big one, scheduled sunday, february 24th. so a lot of changes coming up. the team is real optimistic about the season. they had the best season of their entire 10 year lift last year and feel like they're on -- history last year and feel

the wheels are turning on the google driveless car. this week the national highway traffic safety administration decided that the computer controlling the vehicle would be legally defined as a driver rather than the human. the agency says it will interpret driver in the context of google's described motor vehicle design as refusing to the self-driving system and not to any of the vehicle occupants. the redefinition of drive is significant for google and automakers wanting to make self- driving cars a reality, so we'll see where it goes from here.
