back arrived and deputies entered, they found the man who had self inflicted knife wounds and a dead 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old who was unharmed. the deceased boy is the man's son. the 2-year-old is the son of both the man and woman involved. neighbors say police come around often but never for something like this. >> my heart sunk. i have kids myself and my son is on his way to school and, all i can think about right now is, thank god. >> at this point investigators are calling the man a suspect only in the sexual assault case, not the death of the 6-year-old. a sheriff's deputy responding to that investigation was involved in a crash this morning at iliff and valentia, it injured 4 people ncluding the deputy. the deputy is in critical condition. think of it as starbucks,

double stabbing that left one woman dead are in custody. orodano and another stabbed 2 women last night in the 1600 block of stoveer street. one woman died at the hospital. the other is getting treatment for multiple stab wounds. policed identified one a mile away, arrested him after a short stand off. they arrested the other a short time later. they are not sure of a motive. both face charges for first degree homicide and attempted momicide. both have lengthy criminal histories. the oldest cathlish perish in colorado is closed at our lady of guwad loupey in the valley. the fire appears to have started in the back of the church in an area added on to the original building. 90 years ago today another fire started at that same church. last fall 9 news profiled the

need to treat it as a human health issue. the epa did not respond. the state plans to sue the epa, the state of colorado and the owners of 2 colorado mines. this afternoon, state lawmakers rejected a plan to make it easier for juries to sentence convicted murderers to death. tom, who lost his son in the aurora theater shooting testified in support. it would have allowed the death penalty if 9 of 12 jurors voted in favorfelt currently it takes all 12 to impose it. the senate rejected the bill. republican chair roberts said it was an overreaction, and should not be changed because 2 jurors could not agree on the death penalty. what was once a very crowded gop field went by 2 today. fiorina and christie ended their bids. fiorina made a top in september but finished 7th. christie finished 6.

there has been debate as to how many people attended yesterday's broncos super bowl parade by some estimates, a million crammed into civic center park. along the parade route too. others don't believe it is correct. nick mcgill is joining us from the newsroom with our attempt to figure the math. thank goodness we found a math wizard in you. >> i am by no means a mathematician and this is no way a precise measurement of yesterday's crowd side. we do, however, feel this is a fairly accurate estimate based on some simple math. experts say in densely packed crowds like yesterday, you can imagine 2.5 square feet of space for every single person. using google earth here, we estimated the square footage of civic center park and we were generous with this, we included all the streets here that were closed off, any nook and cranny, really we saw people standing

estimate of 1.2 million square feet. so you divide that by 2.5, and that total equals 480,000 people. half a million people crammed in to this space right here. now, we have to do the same thing for the sidewalks using google earth, estimated that this portion of the sidewalk along broadway here was about 40 feet wide. again, we are being generous, we allowed that for the entire length of the parade rowd, 1.-- route, 1.3 miles, multiply by 2 to include both sides of the street, divide by 2.5 and arrived at 2119,19,685 people. 699,648 is the grand total. not a million but very impressive. for those who may criticize my math a little bit, i am not a

out what was a very spring-like february day. i am meteorologist kathy sabine outside in the 9 backyard where the wind is picking up just a little bit. winds have been increasing along the front range foothills blowing from 25-50 miles an hour, no wind advisory in effect. dia the winds are finally laying down. 53 at the airport. temperatures outside the studio have been running very mild. we are close to 60 in downtown denver compliments of the wind. taking a look at our temperature profile, how about 70s across the southeastern plains, typically mid 40s this time of year. as you can see by our february preview, the average high is 46, the average low is 19. we will see the numbers far exceed those numbers as we move through the rest of this week and this month with above-average temperature trend expected across the western u.s., midwest, and northeast, in charge of our weather picture, pushing the storm track to the north.

trough of low pressure has been carved out with cold air, snow, and wind and we are on the western fringe of cold arctic air staying west of us for now. winter weather and travel advisories extend across the great lakeinize to the northeast as-- lakes into the northeast as carolinas. mild weather in the west, another system moving on shore in california, temperatures will provide us with just an unusually warm and dry weather pattern for this time of year. close to 60 tomorrow. other than the high clouds around the area which will help to keep temperatures up tonight, should be a relatively quiet day. there is a weak front coming in friday that will bring temperatures down a little bit but the trend is for above-average reading s between now and the end of next week. look for 30s on the plains tonight, 20s in the high country. close to 60 in denver, mid 60s in southeastern colorado. we may be a smidge cooler due to lack of wind along the

beautiful february day coming up. tonight, fair skies, less wind, low at 30. tomorrow, temperatures jump into the mid 50s by lunchtime, come close to 60. we will be a little cooler heading into the friday time period but still dry. second front may bring a few flurries to us north and east of denver sunday for valentine's day but look at the numbers jump up for the middle part of next week with sunshine. we have high temperatures close to 70 to the middle of next week. hi, everybody, this wasn't on kubiak's mind when he collapsed at half time of a houston texans game in 2013, and certainly not a month later when they fired him. but here we are, just 2 seasons later and kubiak is hoisting the vince lombardi trophy as the head coach of the super bowl champion denver broncos. >> i dreamed i would get back in that position, you know, did i think i would end up here a
