as we told you last night, hospitals sometimes bill patients more than $400 for a liter. it simply salt water. chris vanderveen is joining us, you are hearing from so many people who say, i have a story. >> how much would you expect to pay? we talked to somebody, $441 was billed, and we have seen from people who have written said and said they were billed $150 to $350. why the variability? can't say. we told you last night, our own dr. torres was able to buy a bag of hospital grade saline from a reputable medical supplier for $2.73. dave was billed 10 times for 10 bags of saline from swedish medical center, average cost per bag, $359. a 13,000% increase in price. we all know hospitals aren't cheap, neither is the care, nor the medicine provided.

to travel to zika infected areas, we have a map, there have been 52 cases in the u.s. from people who traveled to infected countries, it is spread through mosquito bites mostly, but there are cases they believe it was spread through sexual contact. a group of international scientists found ripples in space tripe as predicted by albert einstein was a key component of the theory of relativity, they announced the break through this morning in dc, the size is so small, no one thought it could be detected. an international team of astrophysicists used a billion dollar instrument known as the-- get ready-- laser-- otherwise known as lico, it detected 2 black holes a billion light years away. >> what it has done, the first time the universe has spoken to us through gravitational waves and this is remarkable.

third of its kind ever discovered. one was found in uk and japan. the one in colorado is the most complete of the 3. >> any time you have a sample size of 3 known fossils of a variety in the world, that is a big deal. this is had only known example of the fish in the western hemisphere. in the new world, this is the only fossil of its kind. >> of course that is maya rodriguez, our dinosaur expert as well on that. the fish fossil shows further evidence that there is sea in land lock colorado. it will be transferred to the denver museum of nature and science, all things historic and all things space. >> just the fact that it was only the third ever found and they found it by accident. >> completely by accident. we hear stoez stories so oft-- stories so often-- those stories so often.

tuesday night someone vandalized it. it was lit orange and plurr to support the-- blue to support the broncos, the orange lights are only glowing now. art said someone stomped out or broke the lights and tried to climb on the star and remove lights and did damage to the wiring. castle rock police are investigating the case as criminal mischief and the fire chief says the community is hurt by this. >> that is behavior that affects all of us and is something that, you know, as a community we can't allow. so, turn yourself in and make a change so this behavior is not attractive to you. >> if you have any information, castle rock police set up a tip line for people to call if they know anything. the phone number is on your screen, 720-733-3517. the star will now stay off until the next holiday season. kind of a bummer. but. >> maybe we should have to work

see how that will work out for them. >> see how that goes. poor sports. a group of immigration activists hope to a conversation, the group from houston texas is using the installation in denver to shed light on the topic. they want to show what it looks like inside the 80 detention facilities, including colorado. even if they don't change minds, the members hope people will understand what some immigrant s are going through. >> i definitely do have a personal experience with it. i grew up as a first citizen in my family, and everyone else was undocumented and i never understood why i had all these rights and they didn't. i didn't see any difference between me and them.

the need is great and so many animals at the dumb friends league that need homes. >> we have an average of 58 dogs and cats a day come to the shoelter, in the summer it could be a hundred animals every day, 7 days a week we see that many animals. the need is really great and the animals often have medical and behavioral issues that they need help with and it takes a lot of resources to give them the care that they need to make them great, adoptable pets. pea? would that be okay? she is so sweet, the dumb friends offers so many services. if someone is interested in adopting an animal, what advice do you have? >> come meet them, come down, meet the dogs, every day there is a different group of dogs in the shelter. if it is not the dog you want that day, come the next day and there are wonderful cats, we day. meet with one of our counselors,

well, an early morning water main break in scranton, pennsylvania led to this, it froze several trees and the

the 12-inch main break woke them in the middle of the night and turned streets into rivers and it took 3 hours to shut off the water. unreal like. luckily in denver it has been so warm if it happened it would melt. >> yeah, but late overnight, you know it will probably turn to ice. >> this is true. >> at least in some areas. most of our ice is gone and has been warm again. what a mess to clean up. the wind makes, you know, it makes a difference because it helps clear out some of the ice, but we will get cooler air with it tomorrow. >> meteorologist becky ditchfield is in the 9 backyard. it sounds like the weekend will be nice. >> on one of our cooler days i think we will call it a really nice week. saturday and sunday. wasn't today spectacular? just beautiful. yes, the pesky winds were out of the west, though, down sloping

gave us a little mountain wave cloud. you can see over boulder in the flat irons but with that we had a lot of sunshine and look at the temperatures, 59 broomfield, 54 dia, downtown denver, 62. 63 aurora, long mont at 60. 59 greeley and 52 fort collins with the 40s and 50s over the foothills. here in the 9 backyard, a spectacular afternoon and evening. for us, we are at 63. this is not record-setting, highs into the 70s but warm enough and we will take it. we have cooler air that will move in tomorrow and a lot of that has to do with a shift in wind. as we head into tonight we see westerly winds possibly gusting in the foothills, in the 50-60 miles an hour range. we will have breezy conditions around downtown denver, those winds for downtown die down towards 8:30. we see 10-20 miles an hour gusts

get more of a wind shift. you can see it happening friday morning 7:00 a.m. at fort collins and greeley, pushing in some cooler air. sthat one of the things that-- that is one of the things that will contribute to the cool off. the other is going on way up above us in the upper levels with jet stream. you can see how it arches over the western half of the country, a ridge of high pressure in the upper levels is allowing very mild air to move into colorado. that ridge, that arc breaks down. we will see cooler air move in for us as we head into tomorrow. that same cold air is going to be pushing out over the upper midwest and the east coast. it is going to be really cold there and we could be talking about record-setting low temperatures for the northeast come sunday. how cold have they been? are they going to be tomorrow? across the northeast, we are looking at highs in the 20s and

no snow expected to come their way. we shift our attention to the upper midwest and indianapolis tomorrow afternoon only gets up to 9. 21 in chicago. 35 for st. louis, bismarck 17. i think we are all counting our blessings in denver because we know we are fortunate to have such warm temperatures and we certainly still could this season get this cold again. our forecast, though, is a little more on the mild side. we will be cooler tomorrow than we were today. highs today reached 63. the average high, 45, almost a solid 20 degrees above average and no where close to record setting. the record high, 73 set in 1951. as we head into tonight, we are expecting partly cloudy skies and few more clouds early tomorrow morning with northerly winds breaking down the ridge in the upper levels will help cool the temperatures to loseer to average. -- closer to average. friday we are looking at a dry forecast around here. so changes in temperature only.

overnight lows tonight will be dropping into the middle to upper 20s, eastern plains, 20s as well. mountain areas will see lows in the teens and 20s across the western slope a low of 24. tomorrow afternoon, 44 for greeley, 48 in denver. 3 degrees above ourarveerage high. 48 for-- our average high. 48 for fort collins. close to 50 for northeast colorado. southeast parts of the state, 50s and 60s, mild air hanging around southern and southeast colorado tomorrow. tonight we call it breezy as well. those winds will be out of the west at 5-15 miles an hour. tomorrow afternoon with that 48, northerly wind, breezy, it is not windy at times out of the north at 10-20 miles an hour. ride. we are back up to 59 saturday. it will be breezy, sunny. sunday, more changes, upper 40s in time for valentine's day, a little cool. still a bit above average but

jenny holiday says it teaches them how to focus and gives body and space awareness which can help with behavioral and developmental issues. people who specify in yoga-- my gosh it is the cutest thing in the world to see, say those elements may make it great to teach kids to help themselves. >> we are starting to notice in the field of psychology is one thing that seems to cut across almost all mental health is problem with mood. their mood or if they get stressed or depressed it triggers the symptoms. >> and the experts say another benefit is that when babies or small children are relaxed, so are their parents. yeah. big time. >> you don't say. >> and some families have started doing yoga together. that is kind of cool. therapists say even breathing exercises can help entire families with anxiety or focus challenges and another bonus, babies can actually experience yoga and if they do, they tend

welcome back, we have been telling you a lot about animals, the dumb friends league cares for and the folks that make an impact, they received 56 animals every day, some with medical problems, some need new homes and other issues. they care for all the animals that come to them. last year they saved nearly 18,000 homeless pets, there is no time limit how long an animal can stay. they won't turn any animal away. adoptable pets will remain in their care or sent to a foster home if they need a break from the shelter for as long as needed. the veterinarians are very busy, they have a lot on their hands and removed more than 9,000 diseased teeth from homeless pets last year, it makes it easier for them to eat and
