shooters is sitting down for a national tv interview. one of the victims has a message for her. a message of forgiveness he's sharing through 9news reporter steve staeger. >> she is paralyzed from the waist down after the shooting. today she posted an open letter to sue klebold a day before she time. she forgives her and anne marie hochhalter shares a very special part of her recovery. >> dear anne marie our prayers have been with you as we read about the terrible ordeal you and your family have experienced. >> reporter: sympathy is not something easily put in to words. >> when we read reports of your progress, we marvel at your resolve. >> reporter: yet these words have helped a wounded heart heal. >> with deepest humility, we apologize the role that our son dillon had. >> reporter: these words come from a handwritten card delivered to anne marie hochhalter and her family as she recovered at craig hospital.

>> it was so genuine and filled with sorrow and compassion. >> reporter: that message stayed with her. >> the fact that she made an effort spoke volumes. >> reporter: it stayed with her through the recovery, the anger, and it helped her let go. >> bitterness is like taking a poison pill and expecting the other person to die. and it only harms yourself. >> reporter: hochhalter has only read the letter three times, once when she got it, again at the ten-year anniversary, and this week as klebold prepares to tell the world her story. she felt compelled to get a message to her. >> i don't have any ill will towards her, i forgive her. and she did reach out to me in 2004, but i wasn't ready. if she did reach out to me now i would be willing to talk to her only if she wants to. if i can help her by telling her that i forgive her, maybe that's one less person that she has to worry about if she even does worry about me.

called police saying she was sexually assaulted at knife point. the woman was treated and released from the hospital. on the way to the the scene deputy bill foreman jr. was seriously hurt in a crash in critical, but stable condition. bernie sanders and hillary clinton took the stage tonight for a debate in milwaukee, their first debate since sander's big victory in new hampshire. clinton worked voters to share that she has more ideal views. as we've seen in previous debates, clinton pushed sanders on specifics like how his plan would work. >> if you're having medicare for all, single pair, you need to level with people about what they will have at the end of the process you are proposing. based on every analysis that i can find by people who are sympathetic to the goal, the numbers don't add up. many people will actually be worse off than they are right now. >> and if, here's the if we

>> reporter: and yet as talented as billy is, syd also knows his partner no longer recognizes the album he recorded not long ago. >> he says to me i don't remember playing those. i said yeah, you did a marvelous job and they were all on one tape. he says oh, okay, okay, okay. >> reporter: one is a psychologist. the other a jazz pianist. duo. >> oh i think we're an unlikely pair for crying out loud. >> reporter: they met three years ago in a club billy was on piano, syd was in the crowd. a psychologist that diagnosed it not long after. >> 300, yeah. >> reporter: misplaced facts. >> no, i think it's 300. >> it could be. >> reporter: and the repeated stories.

[ music ] he's 86 years old playing like he's 19. so go figure. >> reporter: yeah, go figure. those who study the mind says for some reason music lingers, stays with us long after dementia sets in. >> we know so little about it. >> reporter: so little, billy wallace the musician remembers the notes to every song he's ever played, every one. >> the problem i think is that we don't appreciate until we don't have it anymore. >> reporter: his mind often forgets where they played the night before. >> it's about 15 billion cells going on up there.

valentine's day came early this year for a couple that had not seen each other in person for more than 70 years. 93-year-old norwood thomas was an american paratrooper. joyce norris was 17 years old when they fell in love in london just before d-day. thomas returned to the states. they wrote letters for a while and eventually went on to marry other people. when thomas' wife died and norris divorced, their family helped them find each other. a fundraiser effort helped pay for his flight and a reunion we're about to see. >> we are so vertical.

they plan to spend the next couple of days catching up. there are 70 years to talk about. morris for her part says that she wished their paths would have crossed sooner in life. a billionaire's sale of the replica of the titanic in two years. with plans to have it ready for passengers in 2016. things did hit a snag and the australian billionaire still believes titanic ii will be ready for travel in 2018. the ship will accommodate 2,000 passengers and will not make the same pass as the doomed maiden voyage. the first trip will be china to dubai. no animated movie has made more money than disney's "frozen" bringing in $1.3 billion worldwide before merchandising. version has been in the works. tonight we found out it will make its debut in denver. dpca the denver performing arts center says that it will come

to broadway in 2018. that announcement made tonight. other big shows will be coming here later this year and in 2017 they include the phantom of the opera, american in paris, kinky boots and the curious incident of the dog in a nighttime. meteorologist danielle grant here in the 9 backyard. you know what today was just a beautiful one. albeit we had the gusty winds in the foothills with plenty warm temperatures. really no matter where you went in colorado it was a pretty spectacular day. capturing this great one for us of the ghoul range and the long road to get there. john roper capturing out there the reservoir. the gorgeous clouds with that awesome orange glow. today was a good one. mid-60s and about 20 degrees warmer than where we should be for this time of the year. 50s in greeley and fort collins. arkansas river valley, 70. 74 in pueblo, even up in the mountains a balmy afternoon in the mid-40s. leadville, eagle, steamboat springs the same.

sitting at 36 degrees. partly cloudy skies, winds sustained out of the south, southeast at about 15 miles per hour. so it is making it feel a little bit cooler out there at the airport. here downtown the winds finally quieted down just a bit too. our temperature readings coming at us 37 degrees. we'll cool off a few more degrees overnight and into tomorrow feeling chillier than today. the winds have been gusty around the front range foothills. the worse spot nederland, blackhawk, and loveland pass recording wind gust readings in the 40 miles per hour range. you can see around the i-25 corridor we've had a relatively quiet night. i think tomorrow we'll have another quiet day before the winds ramp up saturday evening in to sunday. you can see the jet stream forecast. i wanted to show you this because we've been looking at this gorgeous weather. mild conditions across the desert southwest. the jet stream has been riding high kicking all the storms up in that direction and that cooler air, it is situated in canada. it will start to invade parts of the great lakes, upper midwest over new england and the course of the next couple of days.

valentine's day forecast. what that means for us, our ridge that has been bringing us the nice warm temperatures. it will be flattening out just a bit through the weekend. we will be on the edge of this cold arctic air mass. you can see 50 degrees. it will certainly feel cooler for us in denver compared to the 64 we saw today. but not quite as bad as our friends out there in minneapolis, 9 degrees. wind. 21 in chicago and teens out there in bismarck. meanwhile phoenix close to 90 degrees, in l.a. another 80-degree day. pretty wild. two completely different seasons going on across the country. on hd doppler 9 it's been a relatively quiet day. overnight into tomorrow morning a few clouds around the area, especially the northeastern side of the state. this is around 7:00 to 8:00 in the morning. you can see the stationary front starts to pull in. it will bring in a few of those clouds. nebraska, kansas if you're traveling out there, you guys are going to see it. about lunchtime we'll get a brief break in the denver metro area. a little sunshine to help warm

then bit afternoon at dinner time those clouds and the cooler temperatures will begin to evade once again along the front range and eastern plains. tonight a comfortable one. temperatures dipping down to the 20s, not too bad. 17 in the vail valleys. steamboat springs too. tonight in town we'll hang on to the partly cloudy skies and the winds will remain breezy. by tomorrow afternoon we'll be seeing highs in the mid-40s. up in northern colorado, the northeastern plains. 50s here in the metro area. yeah it will be a cool off for the southeastern corner of the state as they see readings in the 60s. look at this we kick off the the afternoon rolls around. that'll help boost those temperatures in to the 50s, low 50s at that. then it will be just slightly colorado. again tomorrow the winds won't temperatures a little cooler. up on saturday. 60 degrees, and then that next storm system builds in saturday night into sunday. that'll kick up the winds for us.

be a gusty one out there, a cooler one. no worries, the storm system scoops out then a beautiful forecast on our hands for much of next week. if you're a dog owner, this is going to be perfect walking weather. really if you've been tuning in to 9news today, morning, noon or at night you've probably seen puppies around here. the dumbs friend league with a day long telethon to help raise money for those pets in need. many of the dogs featured throughout the day were also adopted, great news. donations can be made until 10:30 tonight. countdown is on. the outpouring has been so great all day and the volunteers have a special message for all of you. >> thanks, colorado for having

hi everybody, john elway is the first man in nfl history to win a super bowl as both a player and general manager for the same team. as long as elway continues to work in the front office, the broncos will be contenders. shortly after raising the vince lombardi trophy for the third time, elway was working on number four in the middle of the night. >> he came in to my room at 3:00 a.m. on monday morning and said look we can get better next year. i'm telling you we can get better next year. you know, imagine having that football team. it's really exciting. his competitiveness and just how much fire there is there. avalanche snapped a four- game winless streak tonight.
