the arctic air has moved into new england. 15 to 20 miles over much of town. as you get west of sheraton boulevard, you will start to get the 25 to 50-mile an hour winds, and we could see 75 miles an hour through the afternoon and the evening. approaching 4 inches of snow at love rand right now, and several new areas reporting snow through the northern areas. loveland reporting 7, and winter haven and 3. we have grand view ranch, and 8 days with the cell moving out to cooper. again, really nice snow to finish out the holiday weekend, but as you know, travel is really difficult because of the combination of the snow and the calm winds. >> exactly marty.

control a lot of what happens on the i-70 corridor. all the cameras have a different shot. they can monitor accidents, and we know if will be a busy day for those of you coming up the mountain and those going down after the day off. not too much traffic, but i want to take you to the snow- packed roads around the tunnel area. despite the snow packed roads, they said since 11:00 p.m. last night, tunnel operations have not had any major issues we need to be concerned about. they have seen falling snow and blowing snow, and that's why you can see the conditions. we saw the plaza out there, here along the eisenhower road.

to make the drive down. i know it can be frustrating, but it's for our safety obviously. you will get through it eventually but chick your patience on the road. >> thank you very much. 3 minutes after 6:00 right now. a woman is dead, and a 15-year- old girl is in the hospital and two people are in custody. a third is on the run this is all after a deadly crash that happened in arvada late last night. noel brennan is live joining us, and it started with a red light being run. >> reporter: arvada police say the driver of the jeep ran at red light at sheraton and 80th. after it happened, the intersection was shut down for several hours, not reopening until 4:00 this morning. i will show you what this looks like from earlier. it happened around 10:00 last night. the driver of the jeep

red light and crashed into a chevy malibu that was westbound on 80s. the malibu sent over the curb into a parking lot, about 60 yards away from where the collision happened. the woman driving the malibu, sadly she die in the accident. her 15-year-old daughter was sent to the hospital where she will await word to hear how she is going this morning. we are told three men were not jeep, and they actually cook off after the accident and two of them police found 2.5 miles away from where the crash happened at u.s. 36th and pekos. two of them were taken into custody. i'm also told one had injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. at this point, arvada police are looking for one passenger inside of the jeep at the time of the accident, and we are also awaiting word from arvada police to see how the 15-year- old girl is doing, and

are with her and her family right now. >> what a terrible loss for the family. thank you noel. law enforcement will gather to remember a mesa county duty. derek geer was taken off life oregons. he is was shot, and the teen custody. prosecutors will decide this week if they will charge him as an adult. services will be held at 1:00 today in grand junction. he will be buried at the orchard mason municipal cemetery afterwards. the colorado springs planned parenthood that was the scene of the deadly shooting will reopen today. many traveled long distances to

screenings, and simple wellness exams. it's been 2 months since the gunman opened fire. part of the building is opening, and the other part will be cleaned to ensure that it's safe. the former medical technician accused of putting thousands at risk of hiv and hepatitis has skipped down. this is not the first time his drugs and his job have cross paths. rocky allen was fired from another hospital in pheonix and was fired because of a drug offense. denver police say you need to look out for someone officer. actually two police impersonation reports were made over the weekend.

were connected. here's the descriptions from both of the cases. friday night, two men in a maroon car with flashing lights pulled over a driver near 38th and sheraton and robbed him. they handcuffed him before taking the $180 he had on him. two people in a dark blue sedan on saturday -- sedan tried to pull over a driver, and the driver felt something was wrong. he called 911, the sedan pulled up next to the victim and just took off. strong winds on the west side of town, going almost 50 miles an hour in bloomfield, parts of arvada up into 60 miles an hour at loveland passes, and the pass is closed. high wind watch through 6:00 tonight. sheraton boulevard to the west, occasional wind gusts close to 70 miles an hour.

around here today, it's all about the wind down low, the shanook wind showing the mountain areas, and you can say i don't really see the wind in here. it's hanging close to the terrain, and it's hard for the radar to determine which is the rock and snow, so a lot of times it will filter it out. snow last night, rain showers over the plains, and the system moved through. looking upstream, we still generally have the dying weather pattern here at lower elevations, and we have seeing a bit of moisture today. more moving in on thursday, for the mountains, but not anywhere

mountains, teens, 20s, 30s, and eastern 40s in eastern colorado. the warmest areas in the foothills there will be know along the continental divide all day. it will blow over, and at times, it's so warm, it's not going to stick much. 40s to upper 50s for the foothills. low 60s for denver. tonight 25 for northern colorado, out to the plains, and the snow will continue today throughout the day, and in the mountains, especially on the west, northwest facing slopes, and generally from the aspen area to the north. it will fizzle out later tonight. 30s and 40s for the mountains and north and western colorado. we will pick up the 50s to the south with the 50s and 60s here. a lot of us hovering really close to 60 degrees today, and a windy conditions, the farther west you go, the stronger the winds will be. breezy tonight near freezing for the overnight low.

cases this term. he died saturday in texas. pete williams is with the supreme court this morning, and his absence could affect everything from abortion rights to affirmative action? >> reporter: that's right. here's the reason why normally they are idealogically divided 5-4. now they will face the prospects of the busiest time in the term without a full court, just 8. that raises the prospect of 4-4 ties. if there's a tie, it's like there's no supreme court decision at all. there's no value. the lower court ruling will stand. for example on abortion that would leave in place the tough texas restrictions, on the president's immigration policy, that would mean continued legal hold on what president obama wants to do, leaving up to 5

welcome back. it's 6:20. more than 140 firefighters worked together to try to put out this massive fire at a home in brooklyn it started overnight, around 11:00 eastern time it took the army ophites 2.5 hours to get it under control. if you look at -- army of firefighters 2.5 hours to get it under control. if you look at the pictures, it's amazing they got it under control. these skiers were stuck 45 feet off the ground. one of the families had just gone for the views, and they were with an 8-month-old on the tram. the result is blaming brake issues for the problem. research eres think they have a better handle on

disorder that can be confused with alzheimers. it does not rob people of their memories instead, robs them of the ability to talk about them. a special brain scan can identify the degenerative brain disorder. a study is underway to see if there's treatment that could help. doctors are using virtual reality to ease stress and pain of people staying at a hospital at one l.a. hospital. they have tested virtual reality on 70 patients with the majority of them saying it helps to relieve stress and anxiety. the research team thinks the system should be especially helpful for women enduring long labor and patients awaiting painful procedures. a 69-year-old man was fined this week after officials discovered he had not been at work for 6 years.

and a lot of people will go up and enjoy a nice day of skiing. we are at control center here, and this is tunnel operations, where they monitor all the conditions, all the snow, and any accidents coming their way. the story this morning, just the howling wind. we are inside of the tunnel, and we can hear the wind outside, and that blew us out earlier this morning as we were headed up westbound i-70. the wind is so strong, making for low visibility because of the blowing snow, and i wanted to give you an idea of what we saw on the way up here, all the trucks just going to the side of the road, and this is video i took as we were driving. despite the heavy winds, the semis have been okay this morning. the tunnel operations here say it's not been much of an issue for the semis, and we know that can be tricky. they are chaining up because

want roads are an icy drive with the snow and the wind combined. i will show you what they track here. this is traffic data where they track how many cars go eastbound and westbound and how many go through the tunnel. monday, february 15th, showing 1600 cars, but they just pulled up friday's data for me, showing over 49,000 cars passed through. cheryl, last monday, last year, for presidents' day weekend, they had about 39,000 cars pass through. we know this is just the start to what is going to be a very busy day on i-70. >> now i know when i drive- through they are counting me. that's so interesting. new this morning, we are learning a missile hit a children's hospital in northern syria. activists say at least ten people were killed including woman. syrian troops have been on the offensive under the cover of russian air strike since the

the search is on this morning for a passenger involved in a deadly crash around 10:00 last night at 80th and sheraton in arvada. a red jeep ran a red light, noel? >> reporter: thankfully there were witnesses to the crash. it was at sheraton and 80s. this is where the malibu ended up going after it was hit by the jeep. over the curb, through the rocks, and you can see the debris here, and the oil in the parking lot. the car ended up 60 yards away from where the crash actually happened, and it happened at 10:00 last night, and we have video of what the intersection looked like, and when it was shut down.

we know the woman driving the chevy malibu hit at the intersection was killed almost instantly. her 15-year-old daughter was in the car, and she was sent to the hospital. we don't know the extent of her injuries this morning. police say three men were inside of the jeep at the time of the crash, and they fled on food afterwards, and two of them were found at u.s. 36th and pekos. one of the men is the driver, and one had injuries and he was take tonight hospital to be treated. gary, at this point, we still don't know how the 15-year-old girl is doing. obviously everyone is pulling for her and hoping for the very best. >> bad way to start the week, for sure. thank you very much, noel. 6:37 today. law enforcement officers for across colorado will be in

remember officer derek geer. a teen shot him when the officer tried to use a stun gun on the 17-year-old. he was on life support for days, and he donated his organs to help save more lives. funeral services will be at 1:00 this afternoon at the canyon view church. he -- flags will fly at half staff in his honor. the former veteran has a wife and two children. peyton manning is mentioned in a new lawsuit filed against the university of tennessee. a group of women claim the school violated title vi regulations in the way it handled reports of sexual assault by student athletes. the lawsuit focuses on five cases reported between 2013- '15, but it also references a sexual harassment complaint made by a trainer at tennessee

in a national data base of problem teachers, but there's confusion as to why the system failed. >> reporter: the nonprofit nastac maintains the data base, and we found states can take months, forgetting to add names. there's no federal law requiring the reporting. >> we want to make sure the federal government is doing everything they can to make sure that our children are being protected while they are in these schools. >> reporter: we found 9,000 disciplined teachers missing from the data base. >> it's not a perfect system. >> reporter: the data base director believes this usually works. >> why aren't all states on the same page to take this more efficient and reliable. >> each state is different. they have different rules and regulations and laws that governor the certificates. >> it's really about protecting kids, and it seems like we could come up with a clear,
