>> reporter: foreman's boss sheriff dave walser said the deputy was not speeding on his way to a murder scene, not with lights and sirens because it wasn't necessary. he had the right-of-way when another driver turned into him failing to yield. >> that day that afternoon he was supposed to be recognized for his 25 years of service. >> reporter: 25 years of nose to the ground doing his job. >> i don't know if you call that old school or not, but he comes in and does his job. >> reporter: his job now is to get well, however long it takes. >> this is going to be a long road and very nothing scientific to back that up, but i've been around a while and this is going to be a long road to recovery. >> reporter: anastasiya bolton, 9news. >> as a result of his injuries, deputy foreman lost a lot of blood. bonfils blood center is holding collections around town. the man who hit deputy foreman has been cited for careless driving causing injuries and failure to yield. tears in the courtroom for a woman accused of luring a pregnant woman to her home and

i do -- and attacking her. dynel lane cried as she listened to her own interview with police the night of the attack. she faces charges of first degree murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. prosecutors say last march lane beat and stabbed michelle wilkins and took her baby. wilkins survived. her baby did not. in her interview lane claimed she was not the perpetrator. she was the one who was attacked. >> i was walking up the stairs and i just remember a scuffle. she pushed my head. she pushed my head and it -- like i didn't hit my head. she just -- it was just completely like -- i don't know. i'm trying to make sense of it all. she just -- she wouldn't stop. >> the prosecution rested its case soon after the interview was played to the jury.

without calling witnesses. closing arguments are set for monday morning. a former hospital surgical technician pleaded not guilty today to charges of stealing pain medicine from patients at swedish medical center. prosecutors say rocky allen took syringes filled with fentanyl and replaced them with some other substance. swedish hospital asked nearly 3,000 patients to be tested for hepatitis and hiv. a medical center in phoenix where allen previously worked has also offered testing. firefighters did a good job protecting homes in superior. a grassfire started before 1:00 this afternoon and grew to 27 acres north of colorado highway 128 and ridge parkway. 60 firefighters responded from several agencies. no one had to leave their homes and crews are still there keeping an eye on hotspots, no word yet what caused that fire. meteorologist danielle grant joins us. the winds were a problem again today.

looking at 30 to 40 mile-per- hour gusts and still tonight around the boulder, superior, broomfield area we're tracking wind gusts in the 30 mile-per- hour range. you can see on our map there about 32 mile-per-hour speed, same at estes park, 29 in dumont and 40 mile-per-hour gusts around berthoud pass. throughout the evening those wind will finally start to wind down, but a beautiful evening with bright blue skies, a few high level clouds and the winds finally backing down, temps in the upper 50s in downtown denver, fort collin 46, mid-50s in boulder and broomfield and the high country had a mild day as well. a few clouds sitting over the city coming from the southwest. things change up tomorrow as a region. the winds luckily winding down, a warm start to the weekend, but then as that cold front pushes through, it will cool us off and we'll be talking about snowfall early next week. i'll let you know how much i think is going to fall. an apology from an ikea

hours that the ikea sign shut down light rail and i-25 during yesterday's evening rush. today workers finished reinforcing the three panels on the sign after strong winds shook them loose late yesterday. it made a mess of traffic between county line and dry creek. the city of centennial says the structure is stable now. the statehouse passed a bill to double the amount of time sexual assault victims can seek charges from 10 to 20 years. that bill now goes to the senate. rhonda fields crafted the bill after being approached by two women from colorado that claim bill cosby assaulted them decades ago. they say the bill would give traumatized victims more time to come forward. cosby has denied the assault allegations from across the countriful several states are consider -- country. several states are considering similar changes. coming up a report on flu season. >> and all the classic arcade games together in one place, the ones a certain age group

flu season appears to be getting worse. the cdc reports high are numbers of flu cases primarily in the southwest and northeast. the colorado department of public health and environment says our state's numbers remain relatively low but are going up as well. colorado counties roared 51 people hospitalized -- reported 51 people hospitalized with the flu last week alone. 9health reporter dr. john torres says it's still not too late to get a flu shot. staying healthy is something one 98-year-old has down pat.

years of volunteering as a fitness instructor. nadine ledham has kept seniors in shape for 21 years as a volunteer fitness instructor for seniors with the volunteers of america. she says she does it to help keep seniors healthy so they can enjoy life. >> they tell me that they wouldn't even be around if it wasn't for my exercise class and i just love doing it and i feel, of course, i'm upright which is an accomplishment when you're this age and so i'm thrilled to death about that. you captured the sunset, it was just spectacular, bright blue skies in boulder as the sun begins to fade behind the flatirons. 64 degrees in denver, another warm afternoon, 66 in greeley, 60s lining up the eastern plains, low 70s in pueblo with 40s and 50s up to some of the high country valleys, a stunning day, 52 at dia. mostly clear skies now with winds quiet from the north only 6 miles per hour. we will take it. here in the 9news backyard things are quiet and calm with our temperatures still at 60 degrees at this 6:00 hour. it's been a good one. those winds, though, have been ripping and roaring late last night into early this morning and look at this. monarch pass is now confirmed as the highest wind gust ever recorded in colorado, 148 miles per hour. again that's about 12,000 feet and it's still very blustery. holyoke, berthoud pass, broomfield picking up gusts in the 50 to 60 mile-per-hour range.

and gusty in dew possibility, nederland and black -- dumont, nederland and blackhawk. the winds will be with you guys the next couple hours, 11:30 to midnight potentially in the 40- mile an hour range. as tomorrow comes, it should be much better as things quiet down around the i-25 corridor significantly. on hd doppler 9 it's been a pretty quiet day across colorado and now eyes out to the pacific northwest where this next storm system is beginning to press in. a little bit of rain towards seattle and portland and in california some snowfall for the cascades, the inner mountain west and this fast moving storm will once again graze colorado with the cold front tomorrow afternoon. most of the moisture will stay north, but we will see slightly cooler temperatures for the back half of the weekend as well as a few more clouds, too. i'll fast forward so you can get a good idea what to expect saturday. 8 a.m. you wake up to wall to wall sunshine, a beautiful start to the day. by afternoon clouds push in
