the fate of dynel lane is now in the hands of the jury. closing arguments wrapped up this morning. she is charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. >> the prosecution tried to hammer home dynel lane's intent to kill michelle wilkins and cut out her unborn baby girl. wilkins was in court. attorneys explained to the jury that lane right here had been trying to prove to her family for months that she was pregnant and they recall photos of lane hosting a baby shower despite the fact that she was not pregnant and they reminded the jury that lane had printed out an ultrasound that she found online and passed it off as her own. now, lane's defense, pleaded with the jury, to only consider a charge of attempted manslaughter, not attempted first-degree murder, because they say lane did not plan or prepare this attack. >> her intent was to lure ms.

have to answer our questions. with the help of those who did cooperate, we now have a better picture of how prepared colorado's schools are for an active shooter. we visited schools across the state and we found that they are training differently in terms of how long they practice, how often, and what the drills look like. jefferson county for instance does two lockdown drills for all students every year. the county also does many other drills during the year. and has dedicated security personnel. some smaller districts treat the threat very differently. some admit they have never done a drill of this kind. school security experts and people like david banky, a teacher, who saved students in a colorado school shooting, say that training is critical. >> i would love to hear about your backup plan. what if it really does happen? and if you're not trained for it? because you don't train for your best day. you train for your worst day.

aren't we supposed to be preparing the kids for life? don't these things happen other places, other than schools now? >> we took our findings to the colorado department of education, where they oversee testing. and other than asking the district to check a box on a questionnaire, no one is actually checking if the schools are doing even the small things they are required to do by law. tonight, on 9 news at 9:00 and 10:00, find out why some cools are not training -- schools are not training and see what drills really look like for the kids. we worked with experts to make sure what we tell and show you tonight and throughout the day will not compromise any techniques they are using to keep kids and teachers safe. >> i will be watching. anastasia, thanks for looking into this. a dedicated teacher, a gardener, and a high school senior are among the victims of

degrees at d.i.a. and the wind chill is at 43 degrees. and out here in the backyard, i will tell you, i do have some high clouds sitting over our head and the temperatures in the backyard, we are in the upper 30s, a while ago and we have already made it to 45 degrees at the noon hour. the temperatures across the state, let's take a look at them. 40s at lower elevations. 30s and 20s in the high country. and this afternoon, 40s and 30s in the higher elevations. similar to what we are seeing right now. not budging very much. highs in the upper 40s in the city. let me take you through that chance for snow. because right now, we do have this cloud field over the city. and also that snow that is edging into parts of our central mountains and out to the western slope. but this system has yet to organize itself. and it is going to bring some higher amounts into the high country. and not so much here on the front range, where we are looking at maybe 1-3 inches through tomorrow morning. and it will basically be hugging the foothills and the front range mountains for the duration of the event and also to the south.

it looks like we could see some wet roads, but this rain is not expected to transition into snow until tonight. and we have this cooler mass of air that pushes through. here is a look at the future cast. and you will notice that the snow will develop even more in the high country, through around 7:00 p.m., and for noon, kind of dry on the front range, still, out to the eastern plains and same goes for you and most of the snow falling around the front range mountains at that time. 11:30, the snow is staying close to the foothills and front range mountains. in the overnight hours through tomorrow morning. southwest denver, and also, south, near douglas county, the i-25 core zor, where we could see -- corridor, where we could see higher ams by tomorrow, mid morning, and we start to see clearing by after lunchtime tomorrow. by 5:00 p.m., the drive home looks better. i think we could see 1-3 inches here. and less than two inches toward northern colorado and the eastern plains. higher amounts in the foothills. and in the mountains. and the southern foothills. tonight, the temperatures drop
