to stay up to date you'll be able to forecast and see on the latest radar images. for the second time months, a denver the hospital after being shot on the job. the latest officer- involved shooting happened yesterday afternoon in the highlands. officer rachel eid was going after burglary suspects in the highlands. at last check the officer was in fair condition at denver health. one of the suspect

killed after a short chase. officer rachel eid joined denver police in 2014 after leaving another department. she's often featured in the dpd's youtube videos. chief robert white says she has an outstanding work record. a verdict could come down today in the case against dynel lane - the woman who attacked an expecting mother.. jurors will return to the boulder county courthouse at nine this morning to start their deliberations again. they've talked through the evidence and witness testimoney for 6 hours already. lane is on trial for attempted first- degree murder. the pregnant woman, michelle wilkins survived the attack-- but her unborn baby girl did not. a teenager is accused of shooting and killing a mesa county deputy.... and today, austin holzer will be formally charged as an adult for murder, assault and trespassing. deputy derek geer died- after spending several days on life support.... so his organs could be donated. his funeral was last monday in grand junction... more than 15 hundred people

this morning - ellicott students will be back in the classroom. the el paso county sheriff's office says a threat made on social media no longer exists. it closed the schools east of colorado springs yesterday. the sheriff's office says the threat came in on the "after school app" - it's an anonymous message board for students. but they declined to release any further details. our neighbors to the north are working to outlaw marijuana edibles. wyoming lawmakers say the state has seen an increase in edibles... ever since colorado legalized recreational marijuana in 20-14. the state senate voted yesterday to advance a bill that would make it was felony to possess more than 3 ounces of marijuana edibles. denver's mayor and the city's office of economic development are launching a three- year project aimed at boosting the number of startup businesses in town. the program includes a new loan fund for denver

academy for entrepreneurs to share ideas, and a retail incubator for immigrant entrepreneurs. this is all part of the city's jumpstart plan that was launched about 5 years ago. jumpstart 2016 outlines five specific areas of focus with specific goals for each. a big part of this year's push is a goal of reaching international companies looking to expand in the u.s., while also exploring international opportunities for local firms. amazon reclaims its crown as the most-admired company in america. the annual harris poll ranks the public's perceptions of the 100 most visible companies in the u- s. amazon takes the top spot despite reports over the years about its tough working conditions. the rest of the top five are apple, google, u-s-a-a and disney. today - republicans in nevada will choose their presidential candidate. the caucus is set to start this evening. donald trump is

second place will be up for grabs between marco rubio and ted cruz. trump held this rally in las vegas last night - and said he wanted to punch a protester. security was escorting the protester out - when trump commented that now-a-days, people can throw punches but we can't punch back. it's unclear if the man was actually being violent... but trump said, quote, "i'd like to punch him in the face." the democrats in south carolina vote next... on saturday. hillary clinton has pulled ahead of bernie sanders in the race for delegates awarded in primaries and caucuses. clinton has 52... and sanders has 51. clinton's lead in the race gets much bigger when you include endorsements by super-delegates, party leaders and members of congress. that puts clinton at 503... to sanders 70. it's a question that is top of mind for many - in many parts

drive out there this morning. this is a live look at 6th avenue and sheridan. snow starting falling overnight - to the ground. be ready to add some time to your commute. marty and amelia will have a look at today in a few minutes. today - a woamn help lead researchers looking for a connection between the zika virus and a birth defect that causes babies to be born with unusually small heads. erin staples is a cdc scientist based here in colorado - and she's leading the mission in brazil. they're looking to see if there are other factors leading to the increase in the birth defect besides zika - like other infections or toxins in the environment. the field work should take 4 to 5 weeks. a stroke of luck led to the quick rescue of a girl....

snow-shoeing. the 10-year-old girl fell into a in the sierra nevadas over the weekend. as her dad was on the phone with dispatchers trying to get help.... a search and rescue team stumbled upon them. they quickly pulled the girl up with a rope - and she's ok! the girl says she wants to get back out there - but she'll stick to the trail next time. waves crashing over the side of a road are a rare sight in hawaii. they carried lava rocks up from the ocean onto the road - so workers were on hand to quickly scoop them up. the ocean came all the way up the beach - to the parking lots - in some areas. locals say these were the biggest waves they'd seen in about a decade. still - some of them got out on jet skis and surf boards to hang 10.

proving to be the biggest obstacle for the avs stadium series game. the ice crew rolled out the n-h-l stadium series logo fabric at center ice... then sprayed it with water to freeze it to the ice. they originally planned to do it last night... but they did it in the morning before the snow rolled in... because now they'll be focused on getting the snow off the rink! be sure to join us this saturday before the avs-red wings game for an awesome pre-game special. it'll feature interviews with players--past and present... plenty of cool behind the scenes stuff... and access that you wouldn't otherwise get. it airs from 5-30 to six p-m right here on channel nine... and then will continue after the game ends.... followed by a special edition of 9news. we'll also have a special edition of 9news mornings this friday in advance of this

since we've seen winter weather like this! this is a live look at i-25 and santa fe. we'll check-in with marty and amelia in a minute for an update on conditions. the i-r-s is warning people to be careful of tax- related e-mail scams. phishing and malware scams have surged 400 percent this tax season. fraudsters have been sending e- mails that look like they're coming from the federal agency.

looking to get information that could help them file a fake tax return with a large refund. the money ends up getting sent to the scammer before the real taxpayer files their real return. the i-r-s reminds consumers - they normally reach out to taxpayers through u-s mail---not- over e- mail. mastercard is launching new mobile technologies that will allow customers to authenticate their online purchases using selfies or fingerprints. they've been testing the systems out for a while now...and people like this option. the technology will be rolled out by big banks in the u.s., canada, the u.k. and some european countries over the next few months.
