good morning. it is snowy and icy in some areas, wet in other areas. i'm going to tell you what your commute will look like as you head throughout the morning. colleen, thanks. this is a live look at the snow. it's the boulder county justice center. kind of a pretty scene. >> it's wet and slushy in both spots. here's i-25 and alameda. this is the first snow the metro area has seen since the beginning of the month. it could snarl the traffic this morning. amelia earhart will help you get there. all schools in the district are on a delay. a little sleeping in.

forecasting the storm since last week. let's go right to him. you were right, my friend. >> things are turning out on schedule for us. we have dryer air moving in. we're pushing some soft snow into the foothills. you will notice that into the boulder county foothills. also, evergreen, conifer. southwest douglas county, we have moderate snow going there. moderate snow to fremont county. those are areas that will get snow later in the day today. it's going to last a good bit of the day in southern colorado as we dry out. winter weather advisories, a lot of snow has fallen. most of the front range foothills. south of i-70. 6-10 inches of snow. 4-8 for the mountains west of vail past. 4-8 inches of snow in the foothills.

moderate snow at and above 10,000 feet. we're clear out, have light snow. most everybody is going to be done. we'll be sunny well before noon today. temperatures move into the 40s here. we'll see 30s in the mountains and foothills. so a relatively mild day after snowy start, as we were thinking. the heavier snow as been on the west side of town. we'll get you caught up to where the best snow is. >> reporter: hey, marty. i'm in the boldin area right now. i -- golden area right now. the tricky part was the overpasses. those are slick and icy. we're not used to that. keep those in mind when you're headed out this morning. some of the buildup in and around this neighborhood.

what i've seen in this downtown golden area. give yourself some time to brush that off and get yourself ready for a safe, morning commute. i just spoke with dispatch. they tell me they're on accident alert right now. they had one little incident this morning. i-70 and c-470. that person was not injured. they're still on accident alert for the morning hours untilled for notice. so, just keep that in mind if you're headed into this area. the intersections have a lot of buildup too. slushy roads. good morning, colleen. let's get out and check. as you see across the road, we have a lot happening. splashback. for the most part, you're not going to see -- a couple of

of course we've got the i-70 closure. through 9:00 a.m. today, they're alternating traffic. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., they shut down once again to remove the 400- tons of rocks from the rock sides last week. multiple cashes on i-70. we're going to see a slick commute as you head up the hill toward areas like idaho springs. looks like we bumped up to about 13 westbound. still a very standard start. if you're thinking about washing the car today, it looks like noon hours are going to be the best time to do it. marty told us it's going to be nice and dry. >> thanks a lot. morning. morning. the airport is not expecting significant flight delays because of weather. it still suggests double checking your flight time with our airline and allowing a

pena boulevard is wet or icy. mountain schools are on a two- hour delay. neitherland elementary school, gold hill elementary school and the buses that serve those schools. all other schools and offices in the boulder valley convict at this point are on their normal schedule for the mountain schools that are on a two-hour delay. you can use the app to stay up to date on all the snow information. you will be able to check the latest forecast to see where the snow is on the latest radar images as well. >> a verdict could come today in the lane trial. jurors resume deliberations after taking a break last night. prosecutors are argued lane intended to kill michelle wilkins in order to take her unborn baby. >> what does this defendant do? she leaves her there to die. >> 9news reporter tarhonda

boulder county courthouse. >> the defense wants to find there's no intent in this case. >> if the jury finds no intent, they cannot convict her on first-degree murder. they can convict her on manslaughter as well. yesterday in closing arguments, you just heard one side of that argument, that lane left that victim to die, intending the entire time to take the baby from her, not caring whether she lived or died. the defense says this was a hasty decision. they made that argument in their opening statements this week. however, the defense never brought the witness to the stand. the prosecution brought 16 witnesses to the stand starting last wednesday. michelle wilkins, being the

this semis back to 2015 when wilkins lured -- lane lured wilkins to her home by posting the craig's list ad. when she was in her basement, she attacked her. take a look at what defense had to say about if lane had any intent to kill. >> if her intent was that i'm going to kill this woman, to cut her baby out, why wouldn't she have one weapon on her? any way? why would she do this in her accessible things? why? because it was a hasty, impulsive, and reckless act. there never was any intention. >> now, that, of course, being the argument of the defense, the prosecution does not agree with that at all.

faked her pregnancy for months and months and had to prove to her husband that she was having a baby, her boyfriend, rather, that showed the intent and the planning to take this baby. that, again, is the argument of the prosecution. so there's so many things for the juror to consider. they deliberated for six hours yesterday. they will reconvene at 9:00 this morning. we'll continue to follow this case and let you know if there is a verdict. >> 5:38 right now. denver police officer recovering this morning in the hospital after she was shot chasing down a burglary suspect yesterday. at last check, the officer was in fair condition. they caught up with two suspects near 37th and grove in the highlands neighborhood yesterday afternoon. that's when the officer was shot in the lower leg. one man was arrested. the second suspect got away and carjacked a woman.

35th and lowell where he crashed the car. the suspect was killed after shots were exchanged. the shooting was addressed and the one that sent tony lopez, jr. to the hospital. >> i believe the officer will be okay. these are challenging and difficult times. everyone is putting their arms around each other and we're certainly committed to do what this community expects us to do. >> the officer joined in 2014. she has an outstanding work record. a colorado man takes to you tube and offers to buy guns for felons, and that got him in a lot of trouble. atf agents picked up the video kenneth francis posted, offering to buy guns for convicted felons for $50. he up loaded the video in december. it's titled need help getting a gun?

posting. agents arrested him, saying he sold guns in an investigation. testing trade lines that one to the metro area. the b line will go to wall street minister. the g line goes to arvada and wheat ridge. it's important to make sure trains are safe for riders. they're scheduled to open in summer and fall. 5:40 right you no. in money news, people exposed to certain flooring can face a higher risk of cancer than previously thought. the centers for disease control says the risk is higher than before. formaldehyde could cause 6-30 cancer cases per 100,000 people. regulators initially found a lower risk because they miscalculated some of the measurements when counting the exposure. they've stopped selling floors

investigators at the highway safety administration say airbags made by takata may have to increase. the airbags are linked to nine deaths in the u.s. the first recall was reported by reuters. about half of those wound up in vehicles here in the u.s. roads, wet, slushy early on. heavy know in the foothills as anticipated. we clear out this morning. pretty mild for the rest of the week. again, you see a few clouds over here. no snow falling in downtown denver. that's posted into the foothills. that's got to be true from now until 7:30. then the foothills snow finishes up. we'll see another inch to three in the foothills. the extreme west side of denver

in the shooting spree in kalamazoo, michigan. she was pronounced dead and about to have her organs harvested for donation when she squeezed her mom's hand. >> she was asked to give thumbs up and she gave two thumbs up. >> she's fighting for her life. i want everybody to understand that. abgail is strong. >> abigail is still in critical condition, but her mom is hopeful. >> the uber driver admitted to killing six people and hurting two others. still police are not any closer to finding a motive. his victims range from 14 to 74 years old. the suspect's family publicly condemned the attack and offered condolences to the victim.

to start protests against the fbi. they will be in 50 apple stores today. this comes after a judge ordered apple to assist in the san bernardino terror investigation by helping the fbi hack into the shooter's locked iphone. so far apple has resisted. >> getting paid for it, what a deal? when kids should snatch up this job. first, let's check in with marty and amelia earhart. it's hard to think about that during the snow. >> snow tends to clear the air out. no wood burning restriction. again, still snowing in the foothills pretty heavily. winter weather advisories foothills. 6-10 inches of snow. 4-8 west of vail pass. 5-10 in the san juans. except above 10,000 feet where snow.

there may be an accident or something happening on the shoulder. 6th and sheridan. >> i know that because i travel that area every day. >> this is where you spun out this morning. >> a little further east of there. >> we've been talking about how some areas are wet and slushy and other areas are snow packed this morning. sticking to the ground in some areas. so be ready to add a few extra minutes to your commute. again, marty is saying this should wrap up in a few hours. marty and amelia will have what to expect. >> do be careful. pbs is laurening -- launching an around the clock channel for kids. service also will be available online and on the pbs kids video app. toys "r" us reportedly deciding to pull all hover boards from its website.

of an abundance of caution. it comes after the consumer product safety mission said no hover board meets the safety standards. they all pose some sort of reasonable risk of fire. toys "r" us will start selling these again after they conduct an investigation of their own. highlands hills water world will hang out the help wanted sign. they're hiring people to work at one of the country's biggest family water parks. they have some 14-year-old positions as well. you must apply online at colorado.com. water world, colorado.com. once you get to that site, click on the employee button. those start at the beginning of march. we have late night, really early morning snow reports for you. again, these probably are not reflective of what's going on right now. this is from 10:00 last night

over a half a foot in golden. once the weather observers get out there and start doing the measurements, i'm sure we're going to see the numbers increase. windy conditions along the continental divide. foothills. you may see upwards of additional snow this morning. 1-3-inches on a limited basis going through the day, we'll through the afternoon. it is going to be sunny and we're going to have a nice day in the low 40s. we're looking at a pretty good start across area freeways. we're taking a look at sixth avenue and sheridan. the slowdown in the eastbound direction, flashing lights and also the delays building in the distance can show you this one is going to impact this very quickly.

eastbound is up to ten minutes. speeds averaging out at 53. expect those to drop in the 20s in the next 15 minutes or so. as you drop out, crashes are popping up. i-70 and glenwood canyon, while it is open to 9:00 a.m. this morning with alternating lanes from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. i-70 shuts down for rock slide cleanup. as for u.s. 36, we're up to a 22 minute drive. boulder is on accident alert. if you have a minor crash, exchange information. >> thank you much. 5:53 right now. remember this. bueller, bueller. >> pretty good. >> anyone? it's been 30 years since that famous phrase was heard in ferris bueller's day off.

welcome back on a slushy, snowy, troublesome morning for some commuters. there's an accident at sheridan. you see the sheen on the road and the lights of the police cars. some people are going to find slippery spots. greg moss said he spun out this morning. those spots are out there. be careful on the bridges in particular. we go south to i-25 and dry

wet and cars are moving through very well. high speeds there. some snow on the shoulder of the road. i can tell you south of there, you know, castle pines, a little more snow on the road, but so far, so good in most areas. >> it is. >> and we have a live look at downtown denver. once again, the snow moved in overnight, but it is very light right now, even breaking up in some parts of the city. as marti said, the further west you go, the more snow there is. there's going to be a lot more be careful. marty and amelia will be back in a couple of minutes to get us through the morning. >> you can see the clouds lifting. >> policemen are expected to hand out tickets when people break the law, but one man in europe is arguing that one officer took it too far. tickets for burden of proofing.
