hospital after getting shot at a home in denver. >> this happened along east 38th avenue. we have a crew on the way and we'll bring an update. >> also new this morning, a man accused of raping a girl in ohio 15 years ago is behind wars. >> vida urbonas joins us from the information room. >> good morning. authorities tracked down david skelly yesterday afternoon. he was taken into custody. the 40-year-old was wanted in connection with the rape and sexual assault of a young girl in toledo, ohio 15 years ago. he also went by the alias herman maurice singleton. investigators never gave up. u.s. marshals followed leads all over the country and in mexico. he was also featured in

to a record high that was set back in 2006. degrees. temperatures. we're going to be in the 70s along the i-25 corridor. our normal high is 47 degrees this time of year, so it is instead of winter. the current temperatures are in the 30s and 40s. now here is a look at the wind gust forecast. not all that bad around the foothills, but we will have the winds increasing. so as warm as it's going to be, with these strong winds, and how dry it has been, now we're seeing the increase of fire danger. a red flag warning will go into effect at 11:00 a.m. for northern colorado, parts wyoming and nebraska, and to the south of the metro area all the way into the new mexico state line because humidity is going to drop big time. it is a beautiful start to the day and a nice day if it wasn't for that fire danger and the

the temperatures are going to warm up quickly. we'll be in the 70s already by 1:00. so if you're headed outside, maybe a short-sleeve shirt. you don't need to worry about all the layers. the rest of your forecast coming up. a look at the high country traffic and boy, i-70 looking busy already. a lot of people hitting the road right as the sun is coming up, so we are dealing with a good amount of traffic, but hey, take a look. this is my coworker mike from weather nation. he's getting out there, dealing with the ski traffic this morning, but you know what, it's worth it. a beautiful sunrise. he's heading out to winter park just like everybody else. he said driving through floyd hill he was crawling, not going more than 20 miles per hour, so plan for that as you get out there and hit the road. we're starting to see the traffic ramp up and it is impacting drive times. 63 minutes from 6th avenue to u.s. 6. that average speed is about 42 miles.

one of the robbers wore a black hoodie possibly saying stallions on it. two years ago today, a special education student was stabbed to death in aurora. 20-year-old terrell ephriam's body was found by a creek off east 28th and wheeling street. he was a special needs student. officials at the school said he was a good student who wanted to make a difference. in february of 2014 he was stabbed numerous times in the chest just a you few blocks away from his home. >> for him to be stabbed in his chest multiple times and in his side, that's unacceptable. somebody needs to pay for that. >> investigators believe

let's get a check of the weather with belen deleon. it looks gorgeous outside. >> it is. our temperatures are mild. the winds will become stronger this afternoon. let's take a look at that avs versus red wings game. the puck drops at 6:00 p.m. and the temperatures will be in the low 60s. it's going to be a clear, cool night but those winds are going to be fierce at times, so just prepare yourself for that. here's a look at the wide view of what's happening across the country. what's happening to the west of us, this area that's showing cloudiness, that's heading in our direction. that's going to increase our clouds and bring us a chance for light snow showers in our north and central mountains late this afternoon, but any traveling across the state, you should be okay. looking at ft. collins, it looks beautiful. let's focus on the forecast in

those temperatures will be in the 50s by 10:00. 1:00 in the mid-60s. as soon as the clouds come in, they're going to move right back out, but they're will ushered in by stronger winds. your record high today in the metro area is 73 degrees. i think we're going to come really close to it. those winds will help warm us into the 70s, possibly a bit warmer here in the metro area. 60s in northern colorado, mid- 70s in the plains. 40s in the high country. make sure you put on that sun screen when you head into the mountains. traveling into i-70 you'll have to deal with the traffic, but once you're up there it's going to be beautiful. here in the city around 6:00 when the puck drops, that's when we'll have more clouds around town and stronger winds and those clouds move back out. around 11:30, light snow showers in our north and central mountains, possibly up to about an inch of accumulation, and tomorrow

as we're starting off our sunday. here's a look at that red flag warning because this is a pattern that colorado is too familiar with it. fire danger has increased in parts of the state. northern colorado, wyoming, nebraska, and el paso county along i-25 to the south and the new mexico border. through this afternoon and evening, notice how the winds will increase not only in the city but also closer to the foothills. around 2:00 very breezy here in the city, and into this evening, closer to the foothills, gusts up to 50 miles per hour, and those strong winds will take us into tomorrow as well. 35 is going to be your overnight low, clear and cool. the forecast shows tomorrow will be breezy, a high of 62 degrees. on monday a chance of showers in the afternoon, a high of 59. tuesday i'm looking at the weather clearing up by the start of march, the high of 55 and then we'll kind of do that 50s, 60s for the rest of the week.

world. colorado resident lindsey vonn has hurt her knee this morning. she was transported off the crashing. reports say she was racing in some difficult conditions. vonn had the fastest time when she came off the race line and failed to recover. she's been facing her 5th title. she's been leading the standings by 23 points, so a big blow to vonn today. another top story this morning. it looks like a beautiful day but a red flag warning in effect for fire danger and those winds may pick up too. our belen deleon standing by in the weather center with details. >> good morning. our temperatures for today are going to be around 70 degrees, so all of that sounds nice. you guys mentioned increases of fire danger. so here's a look at where we're seeing the highest risk for those fires. that will be along i-25 from el

new reports shows that candidates from iran's powerful hardline camp have lost ground. reformists seeking greater democratic changes and better ties with the west appear to be heading towards their strongest presence since 2004. the rain doesn't seem to stop in peru. residents have been dealing with strong rain since december december that's causing flooding. rivers are overflowing, streets are flooded, people are scrambling to evacuate homes that nearly under water. in indonesia, people are dealing with a volcano spending smoke 10,000 feet high. authorities are monitoring this volcano. the area has been declared a high-risk danger zone for five miles and on the highest alert level since june of 2010.

you know, traffic this morning, we're seeing an unflux of traffic but not as bad as we normally see it. the drive time has stayed under 80 minutes. we are seeing a couple slowdowns in spots but it's not causing major issues, so as you look at georgetown, there's a lot of traffic on the roads but you'll get there in a good amount of time for a saturday. a slowdown just past idaho spring. if you want to hit the slopes, you're not going to battle as much traffic sass you normally do on a saturday. >> you brought up a good point. we have seen it far worse. 72-minute drive time is not that bad. >> we can handle it. >> you can listen to cdot

survive. four other people died, including the gunman. a tragic morning for a community in washington. a man shot an killed four people believed to be his family, before turning the gun on himself. this appears to have stemmed from a family domestic situation. the gunman called the sergeant personally and said he quote did something. there was a brief standoff killed himself. a 12-year-old girl was able to escape. a woman who deputies say was kidnapped from a motel was found safe this morning. investigators say they pulled over a man during a traffic stop. that's when they discovered her inside the vehicle. she was reportedly kidnapped from a hotel that last. police have not released the man's identity at this time. a customer recovering this

colby martin is continuing to recover. martin and his family gave us an update from the hospital thanking everyone for their prayers and support. the deputy was injured wednesday while serving an eviction notice. nate carrigan was shot and killed in the line of duty. a red flag warning is in effect for fire danger. >> we have to watch out for that red flag warning, through today. >> exactly. it's been so dry that the conditions are prime for wildfires to spread. this is the area of most concern. that's from el paso county to colorado springs along i-25 all the way down south into the new

northern colorado for parts of larimer and wells county. the red flag warning goes until 11:00 a.m. and lasts through 7:00 p.m. our winds currently 10, 20 miles per hour, some stronger gusts up to about 28 miles per hour in black hawk, but those winds will be increasing through the afternoon and evening, and that's the reason why that red flag warning will go into effect. beautiful in bolder this morning. the temperatures are mild to start off the day, but this afternoon our highs will be in the 60s and 70s. i don't hear too many people complaining about that. it's going to feel more like spring than winter. a great day to get outdoors if you don't mind the wind. the temperatures are in the 40s, so those of you getting ready to head out to the denver zoo for the polar plunge, the forecast is looking fantastic for that's. we'll have clouds this afternoon and winds increasing. the skies will start to clear up in the overnight hours.

morning. i'll let you know what's in weekend coming up. today, this morning, traffic has been relatively light for a saturday. take a look. we've still had an influx of traffic and we are still seeing slowdowns right around floyd hill, but it's not the worst we've seen it. those drive times, add about an extra 30 minutes but it's not the extra hour, hour and a half that some mornings we do add. so traffic for a saturday heading out to the high country relatively on the light side, so about 70 minutes as you hit i-70 westbound and we do have a few slowdowns just pushing through idaho springs, but other than that, those quickly. so really not impacting traffic a whole lot.
