welcome back, meteorologist danielle grant in the 9 backyard. happy saturday, did you enjoy the day? great start to the weekend, maybe zipping around wash park or going golfing, it was a lovely day. tonight looks pretty good. all eyes downtown denver towards coors field and you know what? tonight the winds will be picking up. while the temperatures will be excellent for the avs/red wings game, those winds might be a little dicey. look at this. puck dropping in 45 minutes and temperatures in the low 60s. by the time the game winds down the winds will be picking up even more. the temperatures are still going to be feeling good in the low 50s. one degree, one degree shy of breaking our record.
5:18 pm
degrees last set about 10 years ago. today we hit 72. mid to upper 60s northern colorado. 80 in lamar this afternoon. 40s and 50s in the hillary clinton, a remarkably warm and to the month-- warm end to the month of february. 64 at dia, looking at clouds increasing and the winds coming out of the west-northwest 9 miles an hour. our temperature reads coming at the mid 60s in the 9 backyard. winds beginning to pick up and will continue overnight when i come. in the foothills we are talking gusts in the 20-30 miles an hour range, 33 miles an hour in boulder, 35 towards due mont. approachathize area. 38 miles an hour speeds, so close to 40. that is why we are looking at high fire danger. 7:00 p.m.
5:19 pm
the south and wyoming, nebraska with gusts up to 40 miles an hour and humidity less than 14%, things are looking dicey as far as high fire danger. tomorrow i think it winds down a bit. 50 miles an hour speeds nederland to the red weather lakes area and those from the northwest here across the denver metro area as well. by tomorrow evening, things quiet down quite a bit. but it is going to be the series of weak little waves that dip into colorado throughout the work week. to our north and west the storm system, the center stays farther up to the north and that means we will just be seeing these gusty winds as the cold front pulls through. i think most of the moisture stays well to the north too. on hd doppler 9 you can see rain and snow in montana and wyoming and we have a lot at a little across the high country, but i mean less than an inch or 2 for northern mountains.
5:20 pm
beautiful by 3:00-4:00, temperatures will be a little cooler than today. it looks mostly sunny and by 10:00 tomorrow night we hang on to mostly clear skies. thievening, extremely mild-- this evening, extremely mild. a light jacket will do just fine. we fall to 30s overnight under mostly clear skies but the winds will be whipping up. low 60s off to the eastern plains tomorrow. we stay in the 40s and 50s for the foothills but northern colorado, looks like a nice day. monday evening into tuesday morning, possibly a few showers and temperatures hovering in the 50s as we wind down the work week. what are we going to talk about tomorrow? we have been all about out door hockey all week long, all week and last week, the avs, the red wings, twice on the ice in 24 hours. they are all over at the diamond on coors field. lets be honest, this is about as
5:21 pm
last night the alumni game was special, a dozen hall of famers out at the same time. tonight the current avs and red wings, it may not feel as special but means more because this actually counts. >> i am going to try to enjoy it as much as possible and i repeated that but that is what the weekend is about, trying to enjoy it, i have family and friends in town, just looking forward to walking out to the game and for puck drop and seeing the excitement and it is hard to imagine being out there, hard to imagine 50,000 people, some we are not used to. definitely excited. >> this game is to celebrate one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the susport, detroit and colorado are bitter rivals but the best was 196-2002-- 1996-2002, started by a kick on lamu on draper. >> washed on the board. >> i was in a bad spot and bad
5:22 pm
hit and the worst thing was i caught the dasher of the board, that is probably what did the most damage, you know, caused-- i broke my cheek bone, nose, and jaw. >> that particular game, i made a commitment to be more physical, chris just happened to be there and finished the hit and, you know, 20 years later i wish i turned the other way. it had no impact on us, winning or losing. i think it is just a big dark cloud over the rest of my career and my accomplishments and it was unfortunate for both myself and him. >> i don't have any regrets for anything that happened. it was something that happened, it was something that created this rivalry. that is a big part of the reason of why we are here this weekend. it is all good with me. absolutely. >> if you want more of that, you will want to stick around for

5:24 pm
plus players invited to indy. nelson and rashard, neither ran that fast. we will hear from hollywood tomorrow. today, we are putting spruce in that spot light. >> i think it is a opportunity for me to show myself against, you know, top guys in the country. we have some really big names here at receiver position, i am excited. lacrosse now, there was fear du wouldn't be at the best after their win over duke. they were just fine, the defending national champion fell behind sacred heart and then the pioneers went off, should be first, by the way, that is another subject . face off specialist trevor baptist, but conner leading the way, 5 goals this afternoon. du improves to 3 and 0 in front of the 20th sell out crowd. final score, 18-7.
