about your daily dreaded drive. breaking news, whitney houston's daughter died almost the same way her mother did. the autopsy result for bobbi kristina. a medical examiner says marijuana, alcohol, and drugs used for sedation and anxiety were all found in the 22-year- old's system. she was found face down and unresponsive in january of last year. her mother had also been found in a tub. bobby kristina died in hospice care in july. you made it to friday. happy friday, everyone. let's get you set for it with meteorologist marty coniglio. it is dry, but it's sure warm out there. >> it is warm right now. it's going to be an interesting day for us. we're going to start the same way we have for the last couple of days. nice high clouds. during the day, we're going to start seeing the tail end of a

sky 9 up around 25 and i-70. getting a nice break from all that wind. just a touch of volume, southbound 25 as you head towards spear. outside we go to our maps and cdot cameras. we have a gorgeous start. maybe you're making it a long weekend, headed up along i-70. loveland pass is open. i-70, pretty clear even after the snow we saw earlier in the week. we're looking at sixth avenue. we're still in the upper 50s, lower 60s, c-470 across the entire stretch of highlands ranch. the only drive we've seen the car off to the shoulder. >> if that would hold, that would be a wonderful friday treat. thank you, amelia. it's 6:03 right now. a woman is recovering after an or deal that has left a small down in colorado in shock. the woman was kidnapped, held hostage, and tortured for four months.

tarhonda, this all happened in the town of gateway. >> it did. the people who live near this house say they had no idea something terrible could be happening inside. police say the owner of the home, claude lee wilkerson had kidnapped a woman and chained her up inside the home. the woman says she was repeat repeatedly tortured for months. the victim tells police that wilkerson claimed to be a serial killer. a 14-year-old runaway was there when the alleged crime happened. she said she helped wilkerson tie up the victim. will zero con had offered her -- wilkerson offered her a place to stay. once the teen got away, she alerted the deputy. he talked to the 26-year-old woman who appeared very nervous. the woman had a warrant. it was $50, but she begged to be taken into custody.

something was wrong. >> $50 warrant is something we typically don't bring people in on, but he felt something was wrong and he needed to get her away from mr. wilkerson to find out what was going on. >> something more shocking about this case, this suspect used to be on death row. he was convicted of a triple murder, but the judge threw out his unifyings because he went waive his rights. he's in jail on a $1 million bond. >> he spent four years on death row in texas before a federal court threw out his conviction and wilkerson was freed and moved to colorado. wilkerson was accused of plotting a bank robbery with three other people and helping kill three witnesses. >> they held them hostage, taped them up, put duck tape over their eyes. >> and wilkerson confessed to part of the crime. the problem, the confession came after he asked for a

wilkerson's lawyer is in texas now and says he still hears from him periodically, and he wouldn't be surprised to hear from him again soon from jail. there are so many angles to this story. we're going get into all of them throughout the morning. you can also find out more information about this case, like how the suspect got off of death row, on the news app and 9news.com. the man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death one year ago will be arraigned today in arapaho county. glendale police say he stabbed her to death last february, the night before she told him she planned to move out of their house and go live with another man. denver police are asking for your help to find this man. police say he assaulted and robbed a victim in january. they say he's a hispanic man, 5'6" with a stocky build.

in a jeep grand cherokee in this picture. call police if you see him or know where the man is or see that car. a prison cell does not count as your home. you cannot use deadly force to defend it. that's what a bill says that's going through the colorado legislature right now. it clarifies the make my day law. that defense has been used -- the state house passed the bill yesterday. it will be voted on one more time before heading to the senate. it is seven minutes after 6:00 right now. only four candidates were on the stage for last night's 11th 11th gop presidential debate. those four were constantly talking over each other. they were trading barbs, accusations, and calling each other bad names. >> this little guy has lied so much. >> donald, learn not to interrupt. it's not complicated. >> excuse me. i've given my answer, lying ted.

high clouds over us now. weak system moving in from the west late this afternoon, bigger system moving in sunday night into monday for the front range. it will start in western colorado. we'll have just those clouds, same situation as yesterday, but the change is going to be

this day, we're going to thicken them up. it's dry around here now. we'll bring in the showers. it will be after 3:00 or 4:00 this afternoon. mostly 20th and 30s in the mountains. we have a couple of temperatures hovering between 15 and 20 in the valleys. filtered sunshine earlier in the day. after 2:00, clouds thicken. very light showers. the closer you are to the foothills. the closer you are to raindrops. 8, 9,000 feet. no real accumulation of snow. 50s ahead of the showers and the foothills. low 60s around here. for most of the state, around 98% of the state, completely dry today. we're just getting the little up slope going here. that's going the hang over the front range for about four or five hours this evening and then dry up by tomorrow morning. 60s here, out west. 70s in southeastern colorado with 40s and 50s. we'll be partly sunny early and then we'll get the brief showers in and near the foothills.

if you're headed toward colorado springs, headed through southbound 65 miles per hour is your average there. 67 minutes with no problems headed south of the metro area. as we know, potholes have been an issue as we see changing temperatures taking place in our forecast. now we'll head out live with colleen ferreira who has an update from broadway and tennessee. >> reporter: good morning, amelia. you know, that vicious freeze cycle happens every year. once we head into the spring, the potholes around our area get even worse. you can say that word pothole and people's heads spin because we have that one area that drives us nuts. this is one area that people complain about all the time, broadway and tennessee. we drove it this morning. i'm going to report it like all of you should if you have an area that you can't stand every day. now, we headed out there to talk to you. no shortage of complaints when it comes to all the cracks in the road. >> i used the ride a

people are leasing more new vehicles than ever and borrowing more than ever when they do buy. experian finds a third of car and truck transactions were leases. that's a 10% jump over the last four years. the average new autoloan actually reached a record. 29,$551. that's up about 4% from a year earlier. this news comes as more and more people are not able to keep up with their car loan. according to a report in the silicon valley business journal. apple has leased a huge warehouse 10 minutes from its headquarters, nothing more known about apple's intentions, but it's fueling speculation that it may be used for project tighten. the car is reportedly to bring to market in the future. well, can you feel it? the force is calling you to get your copy of the latest star wars movie. yes, it's almost here. next month you will be able to watch star wars, the force awakens. on april 1st, you can order the

buffalo police caught her. she faces felony charges. >> i thought her kids did it. >> nope. she did it. u.s. customs and border protection caught this brazilian man trying to sneak into the country in someone's gas station compartment. a u.s. citizen was trying to smuggle him in. officers imaging system saw something unusual in the suv's gas tank. the driver faces charges. the brazilian man will be deported. >> plus. he smells like gasoline. it is a case of atomic power versus bird poop. and the birds are winning. this is really scary. it's like three-mile island stuff. >> a nuclear power plant had to be shut town in december for three days. the plant owner says bird poop on the wires, the transmission towers was likely the cause. that was enough to trigger an automatic reactor shutdown at the indian point plant. they're taking steps to make

>> ever have those moments where putting on pants is a serious struggle. emergency. the child called 911 asking for help getting dressed. the parents had no idea the two- year-old made the call. deputy showed up to the house and helped the girl pull up her pants. the little girl was so thankful. she said, can you please pick me up and give me a hug. the deputy said it was the best part of her day. good. mom and dad have taught her to call for help. they just have to define what's an emergency and what is not.

backups have the speeds in the 50s leading up to that. not a huge issue. we've also got a crash tracking highway two, which is colorado boulevard there. that's right at 104th avenue, not affecting i-76. coming in from the north and east, we should be just fine. >> thank you. a woman held captive for months gateway. police say she was raped and tortured and too afraid to try to escape. now she's been rescued. and the man accused of the crime is in jail. tarhonda thomas is going through the aft for us. well. >> it's one of the layers in this crime. we don't know if that 14-year- old was assaulted herself or if police think she was this man's partner this all of this. to make it even scarier. the man accused of the crime was also convicted of a triple murder. his conviction was thrown out because the judge says he never waived his rights. he went through and nine years

inside the house, ton -- the unthinkable happened. >> i'm here, i will do my thing and you can do yours. >> but behind closed doors, a horror was unfolding. >> being drugged and being assaulted. >> police say all of that happened to a 26-year-old woman who came here because she had no place to go. claude lee wilkerson offered her a place to stay. row. >> he was convicted of multiple homicides in texas. he was on death roll. based on a technicality of the 80s. >> the teen said wilkerson chained her to the bed and

and serial killer. >> she got away, the teen, and found family members and notified the family members that something more is going on. that's how we started this whole investigation. >> it brought a deputy to the home, face to face with the victim. when she begged to be arrested on a $50 warrant, he knew something was wrong and took the woman away from what investigators say was a house of horrors. >> he took the time and followed up on his instincts and identified a pretty severe >> claude lee wilkerson is bond. the victim is receiving help program. so many people in the town of gateway say they can't believe this was happen right next door >> crazy story. >> awful. >> sad story. that's for sure.

arrest affidavit. he explains why this is going to be hard for her to overcome. >> there's not many people trained to help people with that experience. reading through the affidavit, it sounds like the plot of a horror movie. it's 6:37 now. one of two men serving time for beating a disabled man to death in boulder is appealing his 20-year-old austin holeford filed husband appeal, saying he shouldn't have been given an alternate defense council. he pled to the charges and is serving a 56-year sentence in prison. his accomplice is serving a 30- year sentence. north korea doesn't seem to be phased by a new strict sanctions recently improved by the united nations security council. the country's leader claims

people have to be flexible in negotiations. in the end, he thought the debate would have been more vicious. meanwhile, hillary clinton tuned into the debate last night and posted her reactions. she wrote one tweet, the time passes the scarier this gets. she sent out several quotes throughout the night as well. >> thank you. on the today show this morning, mitt romney continues his attack on donald trump, saying he is setting a new low in presidential politics. romney told today's show matt lauer that he could not stay silent anymore after watching trump's hostile campaign. he said he will not vote for trump or clinton. he said his rebuke of trump has nothing to the with him wanting to run himself.

at a low 4 4.9%. this is a letter than expected number, but it's not over the mark that would make investors nervous and it's a strong enough number to raise interest rates at their next meeting. the city of denver supports the $1 billion plan to widen and lower i-70 to the north side of town. they want some things considered by cdot. public comment period ended this week. our partners report the city of denver has a list of some 84 items they want addressed. among them, safer routes between the neighborhoods in the area. a profession for soundproofing homes for people living along the highway, and a plan to make sure local streets are not overwhelmed and clogged with traffic during construction. construction of the project, by the way, expected to start in late 2017. it could take four to five years to complete. westminster has approved the third development deal in the transformation of this old mall site. associates will be in construction earlier next year on a five story building that

residential space to that area. westminster has moved away from having one master developer for the 105-acre site that's being called the city's new downtown. it's horrible. it's horrible. it's the worst thing. >> yep, he's talking about the freeze-thaw and then the snow and sun and what it leaves behind, the potholes popping you will all over town. colleen ferreira tagged along with denver public works crews as they've been busy trying to patch up streets. colleen? >> reporter: gary, we know it all too well, these colorado winters are so harsh on our roads. come spring we see so many potholes and patches around the city, crews are trying to get them all fixed. so far denver works tells me they've mixed 11,000 potholes this year-to-date. many of you say there are still many more. >> it's horrible. it's horrible. it's the worst thing.

cycle is what helps destroy the roads. >> i feel bad for the city workers. i know they try, but with the freeze-thaw action that happens in denver, the wild fluctuation in temperatures, it's probably pretty hard to keep up on it. >> th*eu for the crews just trying to keep up with thousands of complaints. >> and if you see those crews out there working, give them enough space to work. they're really trying to make your drive safer. call to complain about a pothole on a road or you can go to www.pocketgovernor.com. you can select a problem. tag a location. crews know where to go. we've talked about it. we're in a nice thaw phase, but are we going to see a freeze phase anytime soon? >> early next week. it will be interesting. we'll get rain-snow monday, moisture, and freeze it up early tuesday morning.

60s for us today. just a tiny little bit of rain this afternoon between 4:00 and 8:00, a few sprinkles. the farther west you are, the better shot you have at getting a little spritz of moisture later in the day. big storm moving into california. we'll continue to spread across the west through the weekend. by sunday afternoon and evening, we'll get rain and snow over western colorado. it will move into the front range monday. we'll get some rain here. very windy conditions around here. and snow for the mountains. in fact, the rain forecast over the weekend, pretty close to half foot of rain in northern california. we'll see the better part of a half inch to an inch in western colorado transitioning into snow by the end of the weekend into early monday. we can see upwards of a not of snow in parts of the san juans. flat tops and elk mountains from 4:00 to 8:00 in other locations. in our planning forecast, i'm going to talk about a little bit of snow.
