trying to make it up to the mountains. first breaking overnight, two suspects who led deputy on a chase are in custody this morning. the larimer county sheriff's office says they spotted a car with a fake license plate around 1:00 in fort collins. deputies ran the plates and that's when they knew they could potentially be criminals. >> there was a code 9 mary which is warrants are attached to the vehicle. it could be that the vehicle is stolen or it could be that the people who own the vehicle or have warrants. alert. when the deputy tried to get the driver out of the car, she took off. this led law enforcement on a high-speed chase that reached 100 miles per hour. the man and the woman inside outside the window. stop sticks and a pit maneuver had to be used to stop the vehicle. they were taken into custody. let's take a look at our

we've got a mix of clouds and sun right now. i think the clouds will thicken afternoon. we're going to stay rain and snow free not only on the front range but across colorado. the state. we're watching the west coast where winter storm warnings are in effect, flood watches in effect. wet weather in store for the west coast. that's headed in our direction. i'll let you know how it will impact our forecast in a few. here is tracy with the traffic. >> the traffic is starting to slow down as we move out of the city. once you get past floyd hill, lanes are opening up. traffic not as terrible as we normally see on a saturday. maybe everybody is staying in the city to enjoy the beautiful spring-like weather. 55 minutes from 6th avenue to us-6. average speed is right

left for their new home at the wildlife sanctuary. they often suffered abuse. once they are acclimated, you will have a chance to see them, along with 400 other wild animals at the sanctuary. it is dedicated to exotic and endangered animals. the o.j. simpson case came to light when a former lapd officer turned over a into i have that he found on the perimeter of the former simpson property over a dozen years ago. the knife appears to be inconsistent with the murders of the former football star's wife and friend. >> multiple resources tell us that a knife found by a construction worker in 2001 or 2002 appears to be inconsistent with the knife used in the murder. that worker explained that the knife was found on that simpson

well, that officer ended recently. the officer's attorney says there was no apparent blood on the knife, only dirt and mud. the attorney also says the knife is a small knife, typically carried by construction workers or landscapers. investigators say the characteristics are not consistent with the knife used in the murders nor does it appear it was buried for a length of time. investigators however are now testing the knife. >> depending where an item is kept and how it is stored and maintained, it's possible to get dna. look at what we do forensically with our natural history. >> a jury acquitted simpson of all charges in 1995. simpson is currently in a nevada prison for a 2008 armed robbery conviction.

>> thank you, vida. this weekend catch a two- hour special on the o.j. simpson trial including an interview with marsha clark. what the jury never heard airs tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. right here on channel 9. after a turn of disappointing finishes on super tuesday, ben carson has dropped out of the race. not a surprising move considering the retired neurosurgeon skipped the debate on thursday. carson did not endorse anyone after dropping his bid yesterday. carson is out and the race is getting tighter. this comes as the next round of voting happens today. ted cruz, john kasich, marco rubio and donald trump are competing in caucuses in maine and kentucky.

held in kansas and nebraska. new details overnight. a deputy is facing domestic violence charges this morning. bob trujillo appeared in court yes. commerce city police responded to a call on thursday and arrested trujillo. no details are available about the nature of the call or the condition of the victim at this time. three teenage carjacking suspects are behind bars this morning. officers say they were involved in the armed carjacking at a home depot in aurora on thursday. the teens tried to take a road that is not plowed in the winter. the car slammed into an embankment. that's when the three suspects took off and tried hiding in a nearby shed. negotiators got them to give up. two rifles were found near the scene. police want you to be on the lookout for this man. havens is wanted in connection with a burglary. he is likely homeless and may

family in the metro area. a woman convicted of swindling money from her job learned her sentence. she worked at designer door hardware. she filed false tax returns. she used money to pay for the trip. she was sentenced to four years in prison. homeless people leaving their belongings out in the open is a huge concern, even a health risk in denver according to the city. now the city plans to enforce an ordinance to clear the sidewalks. they will post flyers in the area telling everyone that they have 24 hours to move their belongings. if they don't clear the sidewalks and other public areas, the city will take the items and move them to a storage facility. they will be held for 30 days before being destroyed. colorado native missy franklin isn't treading water. she has her eye on the olympics in rio.

orlando and today she will be back in the pool for her 200 back final. it's 7:09 on saturday. police are trying to find this dog's owner. a man and woman were seen dropping her off last month. she weighed 19 pounds, half of what a dog her age is supposed to weigh. the man and woman who dropped her off are not considered suspects at this point. investigators want to talk to them to get to the bottom of what happened to petuna. this is one of my favorite stories of the day. a cat in iowa being called a hero for saving her homeowner's life. travis ryan had no idea there ceiling. his cat emma started acting really weird.

>> not bad at all. a fire in el paso county is this morning. firefighters say it was 90% contained last night. this is one of several fires that el paso county has seen in the past week. a red flag warning is not in effect for today but there may areas. belen de leon is joining us in the backyard with more. jessica, you're correct. there are red flag warnings in effect for the eastern plains. that is just one draw back of our forecast for today, that increase in fire danger. if you're out and about and want to take a hike like ryan was mentioning, then the forecast for today looks nice for it. the temperatures will be way above normal. highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. still the sunshine is filtering through. doppler 9 is quiet across the state. we don't have any rain or snow along the mountains.

already making its way on to the west coast, bringing heavy rain for coastal areas and big time snowfall for the sierras. they could see one to three feet of snowfall. that storm system will not and monday. in the meanwhile, get out and enjoy our warm temperatures. right now it's already warm for this time of the year. 41 in the cities. 30s in northern colorado. teens and 20s in the high country. western slope is at 42 degrees. 50sand 40s in higher elevations. if you are headed to the u.s. open, the weather for today is looking really nice for that. we are looking at spring-like weather in the high country and also in the front range. 70s for sterling and ray and also down south into pueblo. colorado springs a high of 64 degrees. if you have friends, relatives in town, maybe taking them to garden of the gods sounds like a good idea, walking around there. a mix of clouds and sun. those clouds become thicker

meanwhile the eastern plains will be in the sunshine. around 7:30 it's still dry across the state. tonight, dry as well. tomorrow morning, dry also. but in the western slope, it will be a little different. we will start to see that next storm system edge into the western slope, bringing them rain first and eventually snowfall as the day goes on. as i mentioned, the forecast today for vail and beaver creek is looking fantastic. it's tomorrow when we have that chance for isolated showers in the forecast and temperatures at 50 degrees. so all of the spectators are going to see great weather as they're watching their favorite snowboarders hit the slopes. cool. we will see the winds kicking up in the foothills. although the winds will relax in the western plains, in the miles per hour. snow forecast takes us sunday tuesday morning.

when crews arrived on scene, no one was inside the suv. a building inspector has been called to check the building's integrity. no one inside was hurt. belen de leon is standing by with a detail of our weekend forecast. good morning. >> good morning. the temperatures will be so nice this weekend. those really warm temperatures and strong winds that will kick up will increase the fire danger unfortunately. towards the eastern plains we have a red flag warning going into effect at 11:00 a.m. it will last through 6:00 p.m. that's the window that we're seeing the most critical fire growth potential. no playing with fire out there. humidity will drop to less than 14%. gusts up to 45 miles per hour. now, the winds right now are not that bad. it's actually really nice. if you're going to hop on the chopper and maybe take some turns around the block, it looks nice. winds closer to the foothills, 10 to 20 miles per hour. those winds will increase this

the temperatures today will be in the upper 60s, low 70s. really nice. it will feel like spring. we're starting off the day with temperatures in the 40s right now. country. notice how we will have the mix of clouds and sun through the morning. and then this afternoon, those clouds become a little thicker. it will stay rain and snow free. i'll leave you this beautiful shot of ridgeway. check out the san juan we're going to get snow soon. coming up. now a look at the morning drive. >> good morning. if you're hitting the roadways, not as bad of traffic as we normally see on a saturday. coming out of the city we are dealing with slow-downs. pack the patience but drive times looking relatively nice. if you're heading past the tunnels, that canyon is open. it is just one lane head to head. going through the canyon, it will be a little slower.

the homeless population camping in illegal areas of idaho springs. authorities noticed an increase of homeless people moving to the area after a camping ban went into effect for the city and county of denver. a dramatic site in turkey. the officers were trying to raid the newspaper in i stan bull after a court ruling placed it under state control. the clashes happened when several hundred supporters gathered outside to protest the ruling. it is close to the link of an influential cleric. the government believes they are trying to topple the president of the country. the popular newspaper was able to print the headlines that read quote shameful day for free press in turkey.

we have an update on el chapo guzman. attorneys say the prison cell he is being held in is so deplorable, it's a violation of his human rights. he has been held since he was recaptured in january. the mexican government said that el chapo would be extradited to the u.s. for charges that he faces here. his family is concerned about his health and believe he is being tortured in the prison. the outcome of the erin andrews case is now in the hands of the jurors. the lawyers made their last attempt to convince the jury that she is traumatized from secret video taken from the hotel room eight years ago. she believes the hotel owner and management and the stalker should pay her for emotional distress and loss of privacy. if the jury takes andrews' side it doesn't necessarily mean she will get the amount of money she is asking for.

battle with cancer is over. 40-year-old joey feek died from cervical cancer. her husband wrote she is in heaven. the cancer is gone. the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. the duo worked on a song in 2012 called when i'm gone which tells the story of a woman dying. joey feek is seen throughout the video and her husband says when she will need a reminder of her, her heart and voice will be a click away. the video is number three last night on the itunes country charts. his colorful commentary and even more colorful outfits is what made tennis on tv great. yes, great. bud collins passed away yesterday. he was 86 years old. the u.s. tennis association named the media center after collins last year. in your health, disturbing new details from a study published in the new england

it provides strong evidence that zika infection during pregnancy is associated with severe birth defects. complications include miscarriage, blindness in the babies and abnormal fetal brain development. doctors are calling it zika virus syndrome. a separate study found that zika can infect cell that's help form the brain. the mosquito born virus is spreading mainly in latin america and the caribbean. attorneys for a 97-year-old woman say an eviction notice caused her death. she had lived in her california home for 66 years. last month she received an eviction notice after the landlord decided to sell the property. her housemate says that her health deteriorated after the eviction notice was served.

larimer police spotted a car with a fake license plate around the comfort inn in fort collins. they ran the plates and knew that they could potentially be criminals. the suspects were throwing things out of the vehicle during the pursue. they are investigating possible id theft. >> there was a code 9 mary which is a warrants are attached to the vehicle. it could be that the vehicle is stolen. it could be that people own the vehicle or occupants of the vehicle could have warrants. >> when the deputy tried to get the driver out of the car, she took off. this led law enforcement on a high-speed chase. deputies say the man and woman inside the car continued to throw stuff out the window. they had to use stop sticks and a pit mature to stop the car. >> crazy night. >> uh-huh. a fire in el paso county is close to being fully contained this morning.

authorities say el paso counsel see has seen several fires in the past week. a red flag warning is not in effect in el paso county today. that's a concern in el paso county today. leon. >> that's right. even in el paso county we don't have a red flag warning, the potential is there for wildfires to grow. the window for kind of the most dangerous conditions will be through 6:00 p.m. this goes for yuma and cheyenne county. humidity dropping to less than 14% with the southerly winds kicking in this afternoon. right now we're okay. it's breezy close to the tunnels where we have gusts up to about 30 miles per hour near loveland pass. you will notice in the metro area, our wind is kind of quiet. some gusts out at dia up to 20 miles per hour. we're going to continue to see

week when a former lapd officer turned over a knife that he found on the property over a dozen years ago. sources say the knife appears to be inconsistent with the 1994 murders of the former football star's wife and her friend. vida urbonas has more from the information center. >> good morning. multiple law enforcement sources say that the knife found by a construction worker in 2001 or 2002 appears to be inconsistent with the murders. he was given the knife by a construction worker back then when he was working on the estate. the worker explained that the knife was found on that simpson property. well, that officer ended upkeeping the knife until recently. the officer's attorney says there was no apparent blood on the knife, just dirt and mud. the attorney says the knife is a relatively inexpensive, small

candidate ben carson has dropped out of the race. not a surprising move considering that he skipped thursday's debate. he said he realized winning the presidency simply wasn't going to happen. carson did not endorse anyone after dropping his bid yesterday. now that carson is out, the race is getting tighter leaving four to battle for the gop nomination. this comes as the next round of voting happens today. ted cruz, john kasich, marco rubio and donald trump are competing in caucuses in maine, kansas and kentucky. voters in louisiana will cast their ballot in a primary for both parties. and democratic caucuses will be held in kansas and nebraska. new details overnight. a deputy facing domestic violence charges. bob trujillo was arrested.

first game outside the state for freshman goalie alex ready. >> the good thing about joining a good team, there's a good chance for success. the hard part, it makes it harder to make the team. the du lacrosse team is the best there is, the defending national champ pops. they will need to rely on a new goalie if they want to repeat. a freshman goalie. number 16 alex ready is the new number one in goal. >> i think the more you play, the more confidence you gain. my defense, my coaching staff has done a great job showing the confidence they have in me and not worrying about when you give up a goal. the big thing is moving on whenever you miss a goal after make a save. that's how i've tried to take it, one shot at a time. it's going well so far. >> you have five kids competing for a job. and right now alex is the best of the five. he has done a great job.

one was inside the building -- inside the suv, but a building inspector had to be called in to check the building's structure but nobody inside was injured. deputies are noticing more of the homeless population camping out in illegal areas of idaho springs. illegal campfires have also been an issue. they noticed an increase after a camping ban was instituted for the city and county of denver. on to world news now. dramatic sight in turkey as police fired on a crowd of hundreds. the officers were trying to raid the newspaper in i stan bull after a court ruling placed it under state control. the clashes happened after supporters had gathered outside of the headquarters to protest. it is closely linked to an

especially for our friends in the eastern plains. 10 to 20 miles per hour. this evening, the winds relax out towards the east. in the foothills, they pick up. we could see gusts up to 40 and 50 miles per hour tonight in the foothills. but during the day, the winds will be the strongest out towards the east. that's where the red flag warning goes into effect at 11:00 a.m. and lasts through 6:00 p.m. the humidity is going to drop to about 14%. no rain or snow in the forecast for today. you don't need the umbrella. this afternoon we see clearing in the city. 7:30, it's quieter in the metro area. possibly see a few of the sparkling stars in the sky. out towards the western slopes tomorrow morning, we see a bit of rain and snow edge in ahead of the next storm system. during the day on sunday is when we could get wet weather along i-70. something to consider as you're driving back home from the high country. tonight, 36 will be the overnight low.

winds from 10 to 20 in the city. windywindier along the foothills. the forecast is showing high pockets in the high country that could get four to nine inches in the southern and central mountains. i think most of the moisture that will fall on monday and tuesday morning will be mainly just rain for us. possibly a mix of snow. but the ground is just so warm for any of that to actually stick. to sunday, we start to see commotion in the high country. we're going to hang on to the clouds in the city. it will still be warm. 70. it's monday when we need the umbrella. don't go washing the car on monday. you will get help from mother nature. tuesday, the weather clears out. still cooler temperatures. this is closer to where we should be this time of year. wednesday and thursday, a high of 60.

>> welcome back. this morning. two suspects that led deputy oz an a -- led deputies on a chase are in custody this morning. the officers spotted a fake license plate. they ran the plates and they knew they could potentially be criminals. when deputies tried to get the driver out of the car, she took off. this led law enforcement on a high-speed chase, speeds reached nearly 100 miles per hour. deputies say the man and woman in the car starting throwing out ids and checks. so now these people are being investigated tore potential fraud. they may be throwing cocaine out the window as well. >> what a crazy morning.

tore a hike. i say we all go. >> i have my hiking boots under the desk. let's go. highs in the 60s and 70s. same thing tomorrow. then the moisture creeps into the high country tomorrow. monday, we will see the wet weather in the city. after that temperatures in the 50s and 60s. the next chance for showers is next sunday when we will have to spring forward an hour. >> oh, yeah. >> that coffee will be flowing. >> one less hour sleep. i don't know if i can handle that. >> i might be late that morning. >> be ready for that broadcast, everybody.
