that has not started yet. not much happening here. however, north of the border, it's still snowing. still going on in western nebraska. they have a missionure of rain and snow. some of the snow mixing in on the cool air on the backside. for us, it's dry air. temperatures starting around 30, headed into the low 40s by the end of the rush hour. snow developing again today before lunchtime in the foothills. it will be fairly light. day. we'll see a few rain and snow showers just nibbling through the western suburb this is evening. do anticipate a little bit of rain and snow along c470. late in the day today, as far as measurable snow, get above 9,000 feet and we'll be upwards in two to six inches of snow late tonight into tomorrow. ahead of all of that.

30s and 40s in the mountains. amelia, nice to have a dry start today but our friends get some snow. >> we'll be tracking the drive across i-70. here in the city. really nice start here as we start off on our cdot camera. go out to the east side. a nice view around airport boulevard. all of the area streets connecting toward e470 are looking good on this tuesday drive on the early side. out here metro wide, we have one quick stall. northfield and quebec street around 270, we have a minor stall in the clearing stages that shouldn't affect folks. we're clear at sheridan and custer. drive times across sixth avenue between golden and denver. nine easy minutes there. hour. if you're waking up and headed ranch.

you're right around about 12 minutes. >> thank you. the city says people can't walk on denver sidewalks because they're too crowded with sleeping bags, tents, and other belongings. so today the city is going to clear off all of those sidewalks. noel brennan is live downtown. the homeless are gathering together right now. >> that's right. it started at about 5:00 this morning. near denver rescue mission and the samaritan house oftentimes we see people staying outside behind me alexander cross the street, you can see there are a behind me across the street, you can see people. yesterday we started sewing the notices popping up, saying they're going to start enforcing this sidewalk clearing ordinance. basically folks have to remove their stuff from the sidewalks if they can. and if they don't do that, if they ignore this ordinance, the city is going to be confiscating their stuff,

if they don't take their stuff after 30 days, the city is going to destroy that property. we've seen people out here that this morning. we've seen signs, move along to where? >> where are these people going that's the crux of the issue. we've talked to a number of folks and some say the city ordinance is unfair. others say they understand what the city is doing. >> i got a ticket and went to jail -- the original sentence was 120 days for illegally blocking a sidewalk with four pairs of pants and four shirts. i would like to see the city council get some low income housing. >> they don't have enough respect for themselves to get off the street or enough respect for the people walking by. and there are children. they don't -- they won't do it. the police really have to do something. >> a lot of folks out here say there simply is not enough room in the shelters for all the

homeless and those who have their positions outside. they say, cheryl, that if they go to the shelter, they can't bring all of their stuff with them because there's simply not enough room. >> no easy answers in this issue. knoll, thank you. >> 5:35 now. a three--month-old baby spent three days in the hospital fighting for her life. earlier this week, she died of injuries that police say are unexplained. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas has more on this case. police have been investigating >> yes, they have. police cars have been in this area for the past couple of days. it's in the 5300 block of west 16th avenue in lakewood. investigators are trying to figure ottawa led to a baby girl's injuries. she was taken to the hospital on thursday and died on sunday. the person who called 911 said the infant was having trouble breathing. police say the child's 20-year- old father was the only person in the apartment with her before police were called. investigators, though, have not said if they think that father

they're also not saying how she died, only describing injuries as unexplained. neighbors say there was a big police presence when the initial call came in about the baby girl. >> they responded quickly and with a ton of resources. there was somebody out here for five days almost. >> even though this happened last week, lakewood police are just releasing information to us. that's because they want the community to help. they're asking anyone with information on this case to give them a call. that phone number is on your screen. we also have it on 9news.com. >> thank you. new overnight, a tree caused a commuter train in northern california to jump its tracks. one of the train's cars crashed into a creek while there were 214 passengers on board. we're learning now that only 9 people were injured. everyone they think should be okay. although some of these injuries may be serious.

michigan, mississippi, idaho, and hawaii. democrats are focused on michigan. republicans on mississippi. 9news reporter colleen ferreira is joining us. colleen, a busy day for candidates. >> for the past couple of weeks. idaho will host a primary, michigan and mississippi will hold primaries for both parties and in hawaii, republicans will caucus. an online poll was just released this morning. this national poll surveyed people 19 and older. it shows more people currently support hillary clinton over bernie sanders. you see it right there. donald trump is still the front runner over there. ted cruz and marco rubio coming in at second and third. of course those numbers are just coming in from one poll. let's focus a little bit on today. of the four states on the table today, michigan has the most delegates. if trump wins michigan, that sets him up to win ohio, which

this needs to be a big day for bernie sanders in michigan. so why is michigan the biggest prize tonight? it has 55 republican delegates up for grabs and 132 for democrats. mayor michael bloomberg won't be running for president. there was rumors he would be running as an independent, but in a column, he feared his campaign could lead to the election of donald trump or senator ted cruz. he said that's in the a risk i can take in good conscience. bloomberg was not prepared to offer an endorsement. denver is getting a boost in credit ratings. good news for several big projects right now. the top three credit agencies updated our city's tax bond ratings to a double a category. now this, means that denver will receive better interest rates when they take out these bonds, which helps taxpayer save money in the long run. denver chief financial officer

in a much better position to finance and make progress on some of the big projects out there. some include redeveloping the national western center and maybeing improvements. stocks open and they may struggle in the early go today as oil prices are falling. a lower open today is expected. the justice department is now getting involved with the ongoing battle between apple and the fbi. the doj is appealing a new york judge's ruling that apple cannot be forced to provide the feds with software that can unlock the iphone. the iphone belongs to one of the shooters who killed 14 people in san bernardino. the fbi believes data on that phone might provide clues in the case. apple claims software could get into the wrong hands and put all of its private data at risk. out here today we have the little storm system, the one

still creating some snow in wyoming and nebraska. big storms down south in texas because of a larger storm we talked about that is headed that way. in fact, in texas this morning, they have the severe storm watch out to the central part of the state. several moderate to heavy thunderstorms there. flash flood watches for the eastern third of texas on the way into parts of arkansas and missouri. severe storms possible throughout the morning and afternoon in texas today. check some of this rain over the next three to four days, spreading from dallas to houston right on up towards st. louis. we can see a half foot to almost a foot of rain typical el nino pattern, they get soaked in texas. >> marty, cdot is still cleaning up. cries will shut down i-70 to make more repairs. this 17-mile closure will start at the glenwood springs exit.

and runs through 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. workers plan to use a helicopterrer to put in a rock fall net. road repairs could take a few weeks. >> boy, it's taken a long time up there. amelia, thank you. some aspen high school students are packing their bags for cuba. the aspen times report 10 freshmen are going to make the trip to havana as part of the cuban club. it all started after they learned about cuba during geography class and turned it into a full-time club. they will watch the oldest canon in the western hemisphere be fired and they will volunteer at a cuban covenant as well. >> 5:41. let's take a look at health news. when you're feeling really sick, it's wise get checked out by a doctor. apparently there's one big factor to decide whether to make an appointment or not. >> i have an idea.

time for a look at a $3 million fine. super cookies, now, super cookies are different from traditional internet cookies. the identifiers can store information, including browsing history. they're very hard to block. they stay on your device even when a user deletes them. they could be putting their workers' health at risk. 49million workers do not get paid for calling out sick. these employees are three times more likely to not get the medical treatment they need. experts say paid sick leave helps workers from spreading illnesses to workers, especially in the food and health care fridays. do you know what's really good for you?

by mid-morning we're going to get another round of extremely strong storms developing across central and north central texas. arkansas, louisiana, and missouri by later in the day. around colorado. it's more snow. they don't get more snow in the foothills. it starts up, spreads west into the mountains and then it's really going to favor some of the ridge lines today. up around steamboat springs, 1- 3 inches. 2-6 as we get into the front range and down south into the cristos. also about 2-6 inches of brand new snow. all is nice to see this fresh snow in the middle of the week. amelia. >> it really is. we'll track the drive as it changes into the higher elevations. we're not going to have to track too many weather changes. sunrise this morning. 6:22. in the morning, we'll take a cdot camera.

it will turn day into night over the pacific ocean and southeast asia. they're going to have a flight take off from anchorage about a half hour later to the passengerring will be able to see the eclipse from 30,000 feet up in the air. they will have two minutes to view the phenomenon. here in the u.s., we have to wait until august to see the next total solar eclipse. >> next august. >> next august. country music legend dolly parton is going on tour. it will be the largest tour here in 25 years, but no cities or dates have been announced just yet. i really hope she comes to denver. that would be awesome. she'll visit 60 cities starting in june and ending in december. you can look forward to hearing hits and songs from her new album pure and simple. >> with 60 cities on the chart, you figure she has to come here. >> i would hope so.

word puzzles has now been accused plagiarizing. the analysis 538.com took a look at this. they looked at timothy parker's work over 15 years. they accuse him of copying the elements from the times. they will use cross words from other contributors while it investigates. the new york times is also doing its own investigation. parker has called the similarities a mere coincidence. >> 15 years. >> they looked for 15 years worth of this stuff. that's a lot of cross words puzzles to look at. >> you need a lot of data to be able to come to these conclusions. thunderstorms as we mentioned in texas. we also have light snow in colorado's mountain. some of our mountain communities are going to pick up as we go throughout the day. ht doppler picking up a few -- hd doppler picking up a few

here in the east, for us today, a partly cloudy start to the day. as you look to the west this morning, you're going see that snow developing before noon. we'll have light snow in the foothills. picks up a bit in the afternoon, especially from silver plume. we'll move it down into the kenosha pass area and into south park this evening. as far as rain goes, we'll see a little rain-snow mix, especially on the west side of town this evening. everything about 75 falls in the form of snow. a couple of inches of snow, around 7,000 feet, closer 2-6, above 9,000 feet. 30s and 40s in the foothills. again, the light snow is going in mountain areas today. best snow will be summit county, winter park over toward vail pass and down into the san juans with about 2-6 inches of snow in those places. 30s, 40s. 40s and 50s around here. sunny this morning.

a brief shower for you this evening, but we clear after midnight. mid-20s. we have a small chance for rain again tomorrow and then back into the 60s to finish out this week. >> good morning, marty. check this view out. we have a nice shot across the u.s. 36 cam. we're looking obviously with the sunrise here in the distance. you can see commerce city out across 270. the real issue, is light volume. if you typically take off and take about 30 minutes to get to work. today would be no exception. if you take public transportation, rtd, light rail, the park and ride situations. we've got no major delay or issues to look out for on this tuesday start. across our area freeways, i'm really liking this view. we've got a lot of green across the city. southbound i-25 near 84th 84th avenue, as to be expected. we have one stalled in quebec, right around the 270 split.
